I joined to loose 13 pounds. I've lost 4. That's about a half a pound a week. Am I disappointed? No, absolutely not. I wanted to lose weight because I had such a lack of energy. I thought it was because I was dragging those extra pounds around... that, and I didn't want to have to go out and buy new clothes because my summer clothes were too tight!

Even though the weight is coming off slowly, it IS coming off. I know the rest will come of... Mon, 27 May 2013 11:16:02 EST Day 56 - Achieving Goals With Balance http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5368322 Sparkpeople not only helps with health goals, it helps me stay motivated with all personal goals. I finished and published my third cookbook yesterday. It is a Kindle book (I Can Can Chicken).

Keeping balance is very important to maintaining good health. I can't just sit at the computer. I can't just exercise. I can't just eat right. I can't just spend time with family. I can't just read my Bible. I need to have a little of all of it to have balance.

The motivation and ... Sun, 26 May 2013 10:39:53 EST Day 55 - Still Sparked http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5367466 Today is day 55. I have 438 fitness points for the Month of May. With a 3 day weekend ahead and a raised bed garden crying out to be sorted out, I have set a goal for myself to skootch that number up to 555 minutes over the weekend. That shouldn't be a problem.

I am working on my third cookbook for Amazon Kindle. I Can Can Chicken!! I hope to get that finished this weekend, too, which is a sedentary activity. That will keep me tied to my computer a good bit.

I will be br... Sat, 25 May 2013 10:34:37 EST Day 41 - Canning low-fat corned beef today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5352832 I prepared brine and cut up a 10 pound round roast last weekend. I've been brining and flipping the meat all week. Today I'll be canning it.

We love corned beef and this will be a low fat alternative to the fatty canned corned beef I buy in the store. As an added bonus, it will cost about half of what I pay for a can of corned beef.

It will be so nice to have this stocked in my pantry when the corned beef and cabbage cravings hit us! It's one of our standard comfort food... Sat, 11 May 2013 08:05:26 EST 40 Days and Gaining Great Things http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5351849 Today is my 40th day of Sparking. I've lost some pounds, traded some fat for muscle, lost an inch around my waist, increased my energy, improved my attitude, gotten better sleep, and made some new friends.

I came here to LOSE, but I found that I have GAINED far more than I've lost. I've gained all kinds of positives in my life.

I am thankful for Sparkpeople. I am thankful for you for reading this post just so you can encourage me along my way. You are my blessing. Than... Fri, 10 May 2013 09:06:38 EST Day 39 and doing fine! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5350717 I am not sure why, maybe I was just being suspicious and overly cautious, but I did not accept the free offer of a Spark Coach right away. I didn't want to be asked to do stuff I knew I wasn't ready to commit to... push-ups, hours at the gym, who knows what I thought they were going to ask me to do... perhaps old visions of my WAC drill sergeant were dissuading me!

I bought the new book (which got me 500 Sparkpoints... big WooHoo!) thinking it might help me get past the plateau I'v... Thu, 9 May 2013 08:47:25 EST Day 37 - approaching the 6 week sweet spot http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5348251 I read or heard or dreamed that a habit is formed in 6 weeks. Six weeks times seven days is 42 days. I'm almost there. I've logged in every day but one... and that one I attempted to, but didn't have signal on my smart phone and it just didn't upload, so I guess I could count it sort of.

The social support, especially from my Putting Foods Up team-mates, has been fantastic. I have lost only a little weight (4 pounds), but I have more energy and I am eating healthy foods.
<BR... Tue, 7 May 2013 07:11:49 EST 22 day streak... well nearly http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5331432 I travelled this weekend, so I wasn't able to log in and collect my points or track... but I DID keep up with my food and behave myself. Keeping portions low and making the healthiest choices I could from what was offered to me. I think I've got consumption fairly well under control.

Now I need to work on expenditure... energy expenditure, that is! I started the day with a 30 minute walk, so my Monday is off to a good start. So this is day 1 of trying to get that turned into a ha... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 08:45:33 EST 18 day streak - Cornbread Contest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5327251 I wrote a book last year called The Cornbread Bible. It has recipes from family and friends and stories to go along with the recipes. I call it a recipe storybook. I mostly wrote it for my family and friends, but to my absolute amazement, it took off on Amazon and there are thousands of copies circulating either as a paperback or Kindle book.

So now, I've become "The Queen of Cornbread" and I've been asked to judge some cornbread contests. One is coming up this weekend. They also ... Thu, 18 Apr 2013 07:29:04 EST 17 day streak - My little piggy reward http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5326112 Yesterday I decided that I should reward myself for sparking for two weeks and two days. Funny thing, I didn't even consider food as a reward option. I didn't realize that until this morning. That is a definite shift of things. Probably because all of the healthy food choices I am making now are really satisfying. I am lucky that I love just about all kinds of food, so I am happy with healthy choices of lean meats, fruits, whole grains and vegetables.

I'm planning ahead so that I ... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 08:40:08 EST 15 Day Streak - Breaking away from Fast Break http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5323695 Today is day 15. I've tracked my food and exercise and learned a lot about my habits and inclinations in the process. I've noticed that I will refrain from popping something into my mouth if it means I have to stop and go to my tracker.

Tracking has not only helped me to reduce my intake, but to make wiser choice of what I do eat. The nutrition report is a great way to see what I need to eat to get my nutrients to target for the day. I'm loving it.

I've finished Fast B... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 09:09:37 EST 11 day streak - Help! Starting to feel like I'm running uphill http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5319379 Okay... I'm motivated, I'm tracking, I'm measuring, I'm drinking a half a gallon of water a day, I'm intentionally taking stairs, I'm spending a couple of hours on SP looking up foods, keying in recipes, racking up my daily points... but for the past two days, I haven't gotten but 10 minutes of extra movement into my day. The first few days I was all enthused, like running downhill, then the weekend hit, we were travelling and I got a phone tracker app so I could track away from my computer. ... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 08:48:51 EST 10 day streak - SP vs WW http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5318078 Day ten and still sparking!

I have used both SP and WW to lose weight in the past. I have hypothyroidism and weight gain and energy are a constant struggle for me. I've lost weight on both programs in the past. 40 pounds with WW about 15 years ago. 25 pounds with SP about 6 years ago. This time, needing to lose only 13 pounds (making progress on maintenance at least) I chose to go with SP, even though I am a "lifetime member" of WW. Why? I love the social support here on SP. I l... Wed, 10 Apr 2013 08:54:44 EST Nine day streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5316797 Day nine of sparkin'. I've gotten into the habit of getting up every morning, spinning the wheel and doing 25 points worth of sparks so that I can spin the second time before I go to work. I do this while I eat my breakfast. Eating breakfast is a key to success for me. A good breakfast of about 250 calories lets me start my day feeling powerful. I also want to be sure to reach out and encourage someone. The social support on SP is what makes this site so great. Also, I have been posting a blo... Tue, 9 Apr 2013 08:05:10 EST Eight Day Streak - Don't forget the tortoise and the hare http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5315539 I've tracked my food every day. I've exercised every day. I've met my calorie goals or been 50 or so calories shy every day. I've drank my water, made wise food choices, my uneaten Cadbury Egg still sits there on my bedside table unmolested. Today was my week one weigh in. Week one, the week where you usually see your biggest loss because of losing "water weight." I slid the scales to the most level part of the bathroom floor, recalculate to zero, stepped on and... drum roll please... I looke... Mon, 8 Apr 2013 09:03:23 EST Five day streak - hotdogs, pizza and food attitude http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5312350 I had such a busy day at work yesterday that I didn't have time to do my usual snacking, so I came home about 200 calories lighter than I normally do. Thursday night is dance class for my little Miss Daisy (7) and her favorite meal is hot dogs. I had promised her that we would have hotdogs after dance and she and her sister, Sage (9) were looking forward to it. Hubby was at a Toastmasters meeting, so he didn't get a vote. I had turkey franks, so I knew they would lower my calories some, but I... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 09:01:23 EST Four day streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5311000 Yesterday was challenging at work, but I managed to survive without resorting to chocolate to get me through it. Woohoo for that!

For the last two days, I've ended up being below target on calories at the end of the day. On Tuesday, I just left the calories uneaten, but yesterday I decided I needed to get the calories up to the minimum amount. Choices considered were a Cadbury Egg... an idea pondered and abandoned. A glass of skim milk with Hershey's syrup... given serious conside... Thu, 4 Apr 2013 06:33:35 EST Three day streak http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5309815 Day three and I'm really enjoying being back on Spark. I need to lose 13 pounds, which may not seem like a lot to most folks, but it is gigantic to me. I know SP works because I lost over 20 pounds using SP about 6 years ago. Little by little it came back on. I've been successful in tracking my food and exercising for the first two days. For exercise, I'm playing on the Wii using Wii Sports. I may advance to Wii Fit after my Fast Break, but for now, I'm just enjoying myself and moving more. I... Wed, 3 Apr 2013 08:18:58 EST
