JENNIEBEAN's SparkPeople Blog JENNIEBEAN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community off to a good start Yesterday I posted my goals for starting fresh, and yesterday I was 100% on-point with food. Very proud. I even got 3 out of 4 liters of water in, when I'd be lucky to get 2 lately.

I made casein protein pudding last night as my bedtime snack (helps build/maintain lean muscle mass. Slow-absorbing protein stays w/ your body overnight, etc). It was freaking delicious. ON Chocolate Supreme Casein powder, 22g. Enough water for pudding consistency, stir (this prob burns some calories be... Fri, 9 Nov 2012 08:09:31 EST 'New' Plan To say I have lost my mojo w/ food and exercise might be a bit of a stretch, but it sure feels that way. Stress, mother nature, and an injury have all gotten in the way of me eating and moving the way I need to. So here I am, posting this in hopes that it will help me really, truly, and honestly stick to this new plan.
I left CrossFit (ostensibly because I hurt my shoulder and need it to heal, but also because I feel like I felt better about myself and looked better before I started, and... Thu, 8 Nov 2012 10:28:26 EST Ok, let's try this again... Life has been insane. Work is nuts (20+ OT hours a week), trying to get things done on Mom's estate, two family trips with DBF, appendectomy and the resulting need for recovery... The scale is up, and so is my frustration level.

Eating 1600 cals is too much for me right now, I think. I wish that agreeing with the logic behind a diet/exercise plan was enough to make it work, but my body is telling me that while it makes great sense in my head to eat more to keep my body from burning... Sun, 27 Nov 2011 21:07:59 EST Delicate Balance So I have shifted my focus from simple weight loss to working on becoming more lean and toned. I need to fuel my running, spinning and lifting regimen so that I perform well, while still creating enough of a deficit to continue to trim fat. The more research I do, the more complicated it seems!

I spoke w/ a fellow runner, Lindsey, who has a physique similar to what I would like to achieve, and we shared daily menus. She tells me right off the bat that I am not eating enough. I balk... Fri, 26 Aug 2011 09:46:13 EST Leave of Absence from work Finally realized trying to work 40 hours AND handle the closing of Mom's estate is too much. So I put in for 3 weeks of personal leave, so that I can really get going on clearing out her condo, while also having some time to rest. I plan on starting that process tomorrow morning.

I meet up with my bestie, Andrea, for a run at about 12, so I'll head to Mom's in the morning, start really clearing stuff out, then head to A's to run. After that, I need to get home to get ready for a w... Thu, 14 Jul 2011 12:11:19 EST one foot in front of the other Hi, folks.

Just a quick post to say that I am keepin' on keepin' on. Working on getting the basics down again, after losing Mom. I can't believe it was 3 weeks ago yesterday. It feels like just yesterday, and it feels like 3 years ago, and it also feels like it didn't really happen. Grief is a strange beast. And a beast it is.

But I am working out again, back to tracking, hoping to see the scale move down again. I would LOVE to lose 5lbs before the ACS race in Mom's memo... Thu, 30 Jun 2011 09:15:18 EST Missing Mom My mom passed away on the 8th, and I am having a tough time coping with the loss. She was an amazing woman and one of my best friends. Her battle with cancer took so much from her, but she never gave up. I mourn for her and for the years we could have had together but lost because of this heinous disease. I miss her terribly.

I am hoping to try to return to my healthy eating and aggressive training schedule this week, as I know it helps me handle things better when I am in control ... Tue, 21 Jun 2011 10:08:39 EST Ragnar and other thoughts The relay was intense! At first I said "I am NEVER doing anything like this again!". lol. The time crammed into the van with 5 other runners and all of our huge bags of stuff and 3 huge coolers of food was the hardest part when you factor in the exhaustion of being awake for almost 36 hours. We caught one nap, but that's it. The overnight runs were scary. Those are what made me not want to do it again, too. However, by this Tuesday, I had decided that if I bring my pepper spray and my phone o... Thu, 26 May 2011 11:15:03 EST bloggity blog Hi, all!

Whew, it's been a crazy week or so. Between killer allergies that I thought were bronchitis, teaching extra spin classes, getting ready for the Ragnar Relay this Friday-Saturday... I feel like my head is spinning like the wheel on a spin bike! LOL

My 3 legs for the relay are 8.2 miles (11:45 am Friday), 3.3 miles (10:30 pm Friday), and 7.9 miles (8 am Saturday). I really hope with the continued rain, my inhaler, and some nasonex, I can manage to do well and not ... Tue, 17 May 2011 09:00:05 EST Workout Plan 5/2-5/8 Hi, all! It's a new week! Here are my workout plans:

Monday: 20 mins abs, teach spin 6:45 pm
Tuesday: REST!
Wednesday: a.m.: 70-minute pre-breakfast run.
p.m.: 60 mins weights/abs, teach spin 5:30 pm
Thursday: Run campus 5-mile loop, with 4 hill repeats on HB hill (afternoon, after working from Mom's house)
Friday: Run 11 miles
Saturday: Salmon River 5.5-mile road race w/ Andrea
Sunday: 60 mins weights/abs, teach spin 10:3... Mon, 2 May 2011 13:00:18 EST Workout Plan 4/25-5/1 Long time, no post!

I have def struggled with food and working out lately, what with Mom's cancer fight and the wedding we were in last weekend. I think I definitely needed a bit of a break from my rigorous training schedule, but I unfortunately also took a break from my healthy eating/tracking habits. So I'm relieved to be back on track with that!

In the spirit of being on track, here's my workout plan for the week:

Monday: 75 mins weights/abs, teach spin 6:... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 10:35:24 EST Thoughts on goal weight So, on Momentum at WW, my lowest weight was 121.4. I got there last summer, then kind of 'relaxed' a little and gained maybe 3 lbs back over the Fall. Then, P+ rolled out and I gained another 5. Since January, when I came back to the Spark, I have lost about 3.

It's very slow going, which is okay, but I am starting to think that 119 for a goal, while probably achievable, may not be sustainable for me. And I'm thinking this today because I realized this morning that I was not lifti... Fri, 18 Mar 2011 08:01:27 EST Workout Plan - 2/19-2/25 Weather is gonna cause some trouble this week, but to the best of my ability, I will plan for this:

Saturday, 2/19 - Rest (completed. Glorious!)

Sunday, 2/20 - 50 mins weights, 10 mins abs, teach 10:30 spin class (60 mins) (completed. Great workout!)

Monday, 2/21 - Run 2 on TM, 10 mins abs, then Eileen's 5:45 step class (45 mins). (skipped this workout entirely. Just feeling very run down today)

Tuesday, 2/22 - Run 5, home route. 10-15 mins abs. (Co... Sun, 20 Feb 2011 18:09:24 EST Goodbye, WeightWatchers It's time.

I have come to realize that SparkPeople is a much better fit for me now.

For a while, I needed WW to really hold my hand and help me get on track. I needed the meetings, the official weigh-ins, the Points system. And it worked! I lost 25 lbs, more than I thought I could, and learned a lot about myself in the process. When they rolled out PointsPlus, I started gaining (like many healthy eaters close to goal). That brought me here, initially just to track calo... Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:51:25 EST Workout Plan 2/11-2/18 Starting to think about my plans for next week already, so I figured I may as well post them! Also adding my non-workout info so I can try to keep it all straight, scheduling-wise, lol.

__________________________________

Friday, 2/11 - Run 5, abs (Heather and Ross coming for dinner around 6)

Saturday, 2/12 - Step + abs (60 mins total). Oil change, hair cut, lunch out w/ Ben, nap, then to Jo & Jer's!

Sunday, 2/13 - Weights, abs, and my 10:30 Spin cl... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 21:01:29 EST Impromptu DOR (Day of Rest) For those of you who posted to my last blog w/ my workout plan, I am posting this to let you know that I am taking a day off. That's right! I am tired, and my body wants a rest, so I am taking one.

I tell you this lest you think I am such a machine that I don't allow myself a day off when I need one, even if it's not scheduled. I am a gymrat and I love a great sweat and pushing myself to the next challenge, but I am not willing to run myself into the ground simply because I had a w... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 13:00:02 EST Workout Plan - 2/5-2/11 (amended) Hi, all!

Today was a rest day. I gotta tell you, not setting my alarm and waking up whenever my body was ready felt amazing. Then I just lazed around on the boards (here and WW), ate some healthy yummy meals, took a nap... It's been nice.

Tomorrow, I hit the ground running. Lots of spinning classes to sub. Zaelasedai, I hope you can make one of them! :)

Sunday 2/6 - 60 mins weights and abs, then teach my 10:30 am spin class at Newington club (complete. Great ... Sat, 5 Feb 2011 18:30:01 EST She's back! Hi, All!

I don't know if any of my old running/FIRM friends are still subscribing to my blog, but I am back!

I lost 25 lbs on WW, and am now a Lifetime member well below goal. I love tracking Points rather than calories because I feel less overwhelmed somehow. I also feel myself obsessing less when I am on WW than when I count calories and use SP on my own. I have no idea why working w/ 1200 cals a day vs 18Points is so different, but it feels like it is!

ANYw... Fri, 4 Feb 2011 14:59:38 EST Week 2 of WW Hi, All! Sorry I've been MIA. Work has been insane, and when I'm home, I don't want to be on the computer, lol.

I lost 2 lbs my first week of WW, which is amazing for me. I really hope I can continue to lose! Somehow this week I don't feel like I lost any. I weigh in tomorrow morning. Here's hopin!

I love my WW leader. She's a tough cookie, but funny and energetic.

I've been pretty good with running and working out, but I need to get more on-the-ball with my ... Fri, 13 Feb 2009 08:19:53 EST Weight Watchers So I've set my goal weight to be 133, which is exactly 15 lbs from where I am now, and would be a loss of just over 10%. The range they Weight Watchers gives me for my height is 111-139.

I have thought about having my body mass analyzed, so I know how much of my weight is from fat. I mentioned that to my dr, and he (again) was like "you don't need to do that." It was definitely a compliment, but at the same time, I'm not comfortable at my current weight, so it was a little frustrat... Mon, 2 Feb 2009 13:54:07 EST My Dr. Is Crazy. So I had my physical today, and I weighed in at 149. God, I hate the dr.'s scale!!!

Anyway, when the doc asked me about concerns (other than the dizziness he knows I've been having), I told him my weight is a constant concern and that I struggle to lose even a pound. He came back with "you don't need to lose weight."

......

!!!!!

My whole ENTIRE LIFE, I've been told i need to lose weight by doctors. My weight has always strayed towards (and over)... Fri, 30 Jan 2009 19:28:08 EST Update Hi, all!

Well, as I have begun focusing more on running, I have become more active in the Road Runners Team, and I love how busy the boards are there! Sometimes 5 people post between the time I start posting and when I finish, lol!!! I can't wait to start building my mileage for Spring. There are about 5 races I am thinking about doing between now and June 28th, when I do the Fairfield Half Marathon. I can't wait to get started!

Still dealing with light-headedness, but I... Thu, 29 Jan 2009 13:43:47 EST Thanks Thank you to everyone who has given me support for the last month and a half. It's been really tough, but I think I have turned a big corner. I don't feel dizzy nearly as often, and I was able to complete 2 runs outside this week without any adverse effects. Very psyched! And I've been able to cut back on the volume and increase the quality of the food I'm eating, which is great, too, because before, I was eating a lot more than I should because it seemed to help the dizziness, which was scar... Fri, 23 Jan 2009 08:11:36 EST yikes. So, bad news is, I haven't been able to work out at all since the 9th, and have been way more dizzy, like I was right after sugery. Good news is, I think I've figured out where this dizziness/nausea/confusion is coming from.

They put the anti-nausea patch (Scopolomine) on me before surgery to help fight the nausea I usually get after anesthesia. The nurse told me to take the patch off after a couple of days. I did, and it was the day following the removal that I ended up horribly d... Tue, 20 Jan 2009 10:48:53 EST New plan, lol Ok, so my initial workout plan didn't... work out. I had a vet emergency with one of my cockatiels on Monday night, and then a dr.s appt on Tuesday night, followed by picking Haiku (my cockatiel) up at the vet. Last night my dad came over and stayed too long. It's amazing how much life can get in the way!

Thursday, 1/8: Hard Core Fusion
Friday, 1/9: Cardio Party
Saturday, 1/10: Hi-Def Sculpt
Sunday, 1/11: Rest or walk outside
Monday, 1/12: Super-Charged Sculptin... Thu, 8 Jan 2009 08:29:58 EST Plan for the New Year So, I have my dr. appt this afternoon at 3:45. I really hope I just have an inner-ear infection, or some fluid in there, because this dizziness has to go.

I am (like I guess pretty much everyone else is) thinking about my plan for 2009, since I can finally work out and cut back on calories again. Barring any dizziness I may still be dealing with (fingers crossed that I won't be!), I want to work out at least 6 days a week. Ben and I have decided to hit the gym Tuesdays, Thursdays, ... Fri, 2 Jan 2009 11:47:23 EST Oof. It has been a rough time, recovering from this surgery. I don't have any pain now, almost 3 weeks later, but I am still dizzy a lot of the time. I go in to my regular doc's office on Friday to have them check for an inner ear infection, because my symptoms match what I've seen online, and I bet they jostled stuff when they intubated me.

Anyway, I am chubby again, and trying to cut back on food (again) after the holidays, to try to combat my burgeoning weight, and make up for not be... Tue, 30 Dec 2008 10:58:02 EST gross!!! Not sure what possessed me to step on the scale this morning, but I weighed in at 7 lbs higher than I did the morning of my surgery!!! I am hugely bloated and haven't gone number 2 in 3 days, so perhaps that has something to do with it, but dang, that sucked to see. I can't wait to be back on track. *sigh* Sun, 14 Dec 2008 11:37:10 EST recovery Well, it's been 2 days since my surgery, and I'd say I'm recovering well. No adverse effects from the anesthesia, which was great, and I'm doing fine managing my pain w/ the Rx Motrin and some Vicodin when I need it. Getting lots of rest, because w/ the meds, I go from awake to passed out before I realize what's happening, lol. It's really nice.

OMG, so bloated, though, from when they filled me full of air. It's scary to look at my tummy, and not just cuz of the scars (which will b... Sat, 13 Dec 2008 21:40:18 EST surgery So I go in next Thursday, the 11th, for a laparoscopy (my endometriosis is probably coming back). I have to fast for a full day the day before, and starting at 4 that night, until 9:45, I have to take 32 Rx laxative pills. Yay. It will take me at least 4 days to be able to go back to work, so I am going to owe Paid Time Off going into next year, which may affect my ability to go on family trips. AND this is going to cost at LEAST $800 out of my pocket. Because I really have that much lying a... Fri, 5 Dec 2008 11:37:46 EST weird Ok, I don't get it. I work for OVER a year, really really hard, to lose weight. I work out 5-6 days a week, HARD, with my FIRM videos, which are a combo of cardio and weights, and last an average of 50 minutes each... Sometimes I even supplement those workouts with additional cardio at the gym, or do 2 videos in a day (once a week).... And the weight creeps off, if at all. We're talking a loss of maybe 2 lbs over the past year.

Then, I get an intestinal bug (about a month ago), and... Fri, 21 Nov 2008 07:58:14 EST revamp (yet again) So I am thinking that I will alternate running outside w/ my FIRM workouts. I think that will help somehow, both with my progress and my mood. More outside air, even cold outside air, will do me good.

LILHLFPINT, thanks, as always, for your responses to my blogs. I have AdAware, an anti-spyware program like spybot, and my computer has neither malware, nor any viruses. Vista installs updates every 5 seconds, and so far, the last 11 seem to have helped, at least a bit. *fingers cross... Mon, 17 Nov 2008 18:59:30 EST here-ish So my less-than-a-year-old laptop is acting like a big fat dummy and not installing some Vista update or other correctly, and it's freezing and crashing left and right. I am therefore really only able to update my status from work, and work has been crazy.

I am mostly on-track with working out. I wasn't able to do any workouts this weekend, though, because I strained a muscle in my right glute, which had me hobbling around a bit for a couple of days. I guess that's what I get for t... Wed, 5 Nov 2008 16:00:06 EST back, finally wow, so my "off time" turned into almost 3 weeks!!! I worked out today, finally, and omg, it was SO hard. I did Aerobic Body Shaping and, good lord. I felt horrible after, lol. But i feel great now! I'm glad to be back to eating high-fiber, clean foods, and working out! If my computer stops freezing for long enough, I'll set up a plan for the next month or so. Hugs to all! I feel quite a bit better this afternoon/evening... Not so many gas pains or the burning feeling in my guts. I didn't work out tonight, but I'm okay with that. I will try to do a workout tomorrow night between work and class. :)

I really hope this is the last of the bug that's had me in quite a bit of pain!

(Can't believe the weekend is practically over already!!! I've got a busy week ahead of me, too, and a full weekend ... Sun, 26 Oct 2008 20:28:03 EST sick Well, I've not been on SP pretty much all week, and I haven't worked out either. I've been sick. I picked up an intestinal bug from the folks at work, and it totally knocked me flat. I had to eat what sounded edible rather than what was "good for me". Whole grains, beans, and veggies were literally too rough for my system to manage. So I've been completely off-plan altogether.

However, I *think* I'm getting better. I still have pretty bad cramping now and then, but I'm not as tired... Sun, 26 Oct 2008 10:36:36 EST Let's do this, Jennie. Okay. Here's what I want to do for the next week (and change):

Today: Super Charged Sculpt (x) (tonight after hanging out w/ Carissa, if poss)
Saturday 10/18: Ultimate Calorie Blaster (x)
Sunday 10/19: Hard Core Fusion (x) & 5-minute Abs( )
Monday 10/20: Run outside (about 3 miles) ( )
Tuesday 10/21: Off (work trip to Long Island. Fri, 17 Oct 2008 09:49:18 EST ...Fall back Ugh, I haven't worked out since Monday. A lot of the reason for that is that I didn't get ANY sleep Tuesday night and it's taken me all week to get to the point where I have any energy at all again.

I HAVE been mostly following the Ultrametabolism system, and I like it a lot. I had an "aha" moment yesterday: Per the book, I've been eating a small amount of extra-dark organic fair-trade chocolate (70% cocoa or more!) each night (like 3 squares), and I love it. It really satisfies my... Fri, 17 Oct 2008 09:42:20 EST Ultrametabolism Book I'm starting to integrate the foods and supplements recommended in Ultrametabolism, a book written by a doctor advocating whole, unprocessed foods (veggies, whole grains, fruits), healthy fats, and protein. I am a vegetarian, so getting enough protein is something I have to focus on, perhaps more than a meat eater. I have been vegan in the past, but the last 2 times I tried to return to a dairy- and egg-free diet, I had a recurrence of some odd symptoms from my youth. I hope that following Ul... Mon, 6 Oct 2008 08:12:08 EST re-focusing Fall kicks me in the butt!!! I start feeling like sleeping all day and eating all the time when I'm awake, lol. It's been really rough on my program for the last 2 weeks, especially when you factor in the extra busy-ness of taking classes 2 nights a week.

However, I'm focusing really hard on thinking about my goals and using the momentum of this busy-ness to push me through the next few months at peak performance. Sun, 5 Oct 2008 11:58:55 EST feeling better Don't have much time to write, but i am feeling better. i have more energy and i'm not totally giving up after all (not that i really was). i am looking forward to my workout between work and class tonight. hope i can fit a good one in, but if i don't have time, i'll do an "express" video instead. i need to lose the mentality that if i can't work out for a full hour, then it's a total loss and i may as well not bother.

adapt, adapt, adapt, Jennie! this class is only till December, ... Wed, 24 Sep 2008 12:51:40 EST really disappointed and feeling daunted. as i posted on the FIRM boards, i don't understand how i can work out hard 6 days/week for 2 months while eating very strictly within my calorie range, and MAYBE lose 4 lbs (if i'm lucky), but then it only takes 1.5 weeks of eating not-so-well and working out hard but not THAT hard, 5 times a week, for me to GAIN 2 lbs. how, exactly, is that effing FAIR?

what i learned from this is that i apparently will have to be ridiculously athletic and ridiculously vigilant about my food for t... Sun, 21 Sep 2008 09:32:12 EST say NO to the slippery slope!! Well, it's almost Fall again, and as usual, my impulse is to eat lots and work out less. it's been tough since the Bootcamp ladies seemed to have disappeared after the long weekend... i used that as an excuse to lose momentum, instead of just repeating weeks 1-4. I haven't fallen completely off the wagon, but i need to get back on track, especially with food. i have been eating much too much (and not tracking it as a result).
tomorrow i go back to planning my meals and snacks, and keepin... Sun, 14 Sep 2008 19:17:33 EST oof This bootcamp stuff is no joke! doing 30 minutes of sculpting-only, followed immediately by 30 minutes of cardio aerobics, was REALLY tough. i had done this before, but i didn't heavy up as much, and it really made a difference when i upped the weights this time. dang!

it's past time for 10-lb dumbells, and maybe even 12s as well.

anyway, i'm proud of myself. i skipped the 20 minutes of cardio evening workout on monday, but i did do the 45 minutes of sculpt in the morn...
