The nice thing about being on Spark is that even though I don't always post everyday the hints and support are always in my mind so I can make better choices.
In restaurants and social gatherings, of which there have been a lot lately, I have managed to survive buffet tables and dessert trays. It feels great! The weight is slow to come off but at my age and with the medications I'm on that's to be expected. But a little loss is always better than a gain! Wed, 19 Feb 2014 09:57:49 EST Still plugging along http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5616772 I haven't made any entries for awhile but I am reconnecting today. Things have been going well except in the exercise dept. I am walking to school though, even in these frigid temperatures and I have been walking the dog so it hasn't been all time spent on the couch. Lots of stress lately as we ended one semester and started another. My school division decided to change report card software programs two weeks before report cards were to go home. Sheesh! That was a steep learning curve. I have... Thu, 6 Feb 2014 10:24:16 EST Time to check back in http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5608255 Things have been going quite well. This weekend my partner hooked up his old Wii to his new 70" TV. What a hoot! We bowled, played tennis and I tried to hit a baseball! lol I also got set up on Wii fit. My balance needs a little work, so does my coordination! But it was all fun while burning calories. I might have to get a Wii of my own, although my daughter recommends the Connect for X-box? I'm starting to feel old lol Tue, 28 Jan 2014 13:21:27 EST Tuesday and all is well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5601127 I am proud of myself for the decisions I have made lately. Last night I got invited out for supper but unfortunately it was to a pizza place. However, while others were enjoying fat laden pizzas I chose their one and only "heart smart" one (Their label in the menu for wiser choices) It was a thin crust szchewuan (?) with veges. Total calories 600 but that fit in just fine to my overall calories for the day (I knew I was going out and chose wisely all day) WooHoo! I'm on a roll. Ten pounds gon... Tue, 21 Jan 2014 10:45:39 EST So Much Better Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5599102 This morning I felt so much better and very proud of myself for not giving into the cravings last night. I have tracked my food today, even the coffee creamer and I'm right on track. Went out for a walk too, its a gorgeous winter day here today, no wind and hovering around the freezing mark. Even got more active (especially for a Sunday!) and cleaned all of the ceiling fans in the house. How does so much dust accumulate on moving fan blades? Sun, 19 Jan 2014 15:30:53 EST Saturday Night http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5598434 I have had a few challenges the last couple of days, mainly with having to eat out but I think I handled the challenges well. Tonight I'm really struggling. I am so irritable and grumpy. I feel like I am going through a withdrawal and can't stop craving sweet things. It physically hurts I am fighting it hard with walks, water, smart snacking on veges but this is definitely the hardest day yet. Sat, 18 Jan 2014 22:01:18 EST Thursday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5596372 Well it's been a bit of a roller coaster. I now know I can't buy a box of Weight Watcher ice cream treats yet. I ate the whole box. But on a bright note I got right back on track. Thu, 16 Jan 2014 21:33:26 EST Tuesday and all is well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5593969 I had an early start to my day, fought against the snooze button and won. Walked to and from school 3 times so at least I'm more active than before. I'm having trouble with a strained tendon in my heel so I'm not doing anything too vigorous today to give it a bit of a rest because wow, its hurts! Made good food choices all day and am staying on the negative side of my calories differential. I am feeling very much in control :-) Tue, 14 Jan 2014 20:19:05 EST Happy Monday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5592715 I was pretty pleased with my weekend. Last night I got the munchies something awful but I managed to make wise decisions and tracked everything. Today I ate a healthy breakfast and Worked out on the exercise bike after school for 30 minutes. I have tried to do some of the visualization exercises from Spark coach as I work out...trying to visualize what it will be like to be fit, to be in smaller clothes, to feel less tired etc. Makes the workout time go by quickly. Mon, 13 Jan 2014 18:56:40 EST Great weekend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5591135 For the first time in my life I have a partner who is doing this weight loss journey with me. We track food together, we find recipes together and cook together and also exercise together. It is so much easier having someone who understands and is supportive. I'm not doing this FOR him, I'm doing it with him.

Slow and steady Sun, 12 Jan 2014 11:24:57 EST Happy HUMP day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5587488 This is already seeming like a long week and I had Monday off from students! I think it must be the cold weather but temps are finally supposed to rise overnight.
I had a good day nutrition wise but not so good exercise wise, although I did try to walk and stand more as I taught and did walk back and forth to school

I'm planning on buying a DVD player this weekend so I can try some exercise DVDs at home. I really need something convenient to do at home when the temps are this ... Wed, 8 Jan 2014 22:42:56 EST Finally! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5586110 I managed to get 30 minutes of good exercise in without anything breaking today. I used the stationary bike in our school fitness room (One of the perks of being a teacher I guess) I used an interval setting and had jelly legs when I got off.

Started back at school today, the weather was much better. (If -20C is better) There was no wind, which makes a huge difference here! I walked to work (about a 8 minute walk), walked home for lunch too, so 4 trips back and forth. Much better ... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 20:30:32 EST School Tomorrow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5584992 Its still pretty cold here but I'm sure we will be able to have school tomorrow. I spent the afternoon in my classroom working but its pretty boring without any students! I was very hungry when I got home so I will have to plan a little better than that tomorrow. I did manage to just snack on some veges while I got supper together and I did prepare a good balanced meal rather than just throwing fattening stuff together. I even tried Brussels sprouts and liked them! I think its only the second... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 22:24:26 EST Sunday: One full week into the new journey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5583678 Its crazy cold here today, they have already called school off for tomorrow. I'm so glad I am on track o r I would be over eating just from the cabin fever. Its funny after a week back on track I'm not even tempted. I don't feel hungry at all and I know there are lots of fruits and veges on hand if I do. I even got 30 minutes in on the treadmill before it stopped dead on me again. Using WD40 did not do the trick so I'm not sure what to do with it next.

Patience this time is going t... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 22:47:06 EST Back Home Safely http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5582121 I arrived back home safely after my visit to Winnipeg. The roads were ok even though we received a LOT of snow in 24 hours. Lack of wind helped but wow, it's cold out! I got the driveway shoveled out so I could put the car away. All the time I was struggling with the shoveling I kept thinking about the calories I was burning. Stopped on the way home to pick up some more healthy groceries and also at the library for a good book to read and relax with after a stressful couple of days. I'm off t... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 17:38:16 EST Tough Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5581411 Today I attended a Celebration of Life for my niece's husband who passed away at the age of 45 and left behind 2 young children aged 8 and 11. My heart is heavy with the sorrow my niece has had to endure. It was such an exhausting day emotionally. But when faced with food challenges everywhere I stayed the course and did not give in. I passed on the alcohol and the pop too and stuck to water or coffee. To top it off we are being hit with a blizzard. I shovelled snow for my sister just to get ... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 23:57:06 EST Darn Treadmill http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5579447 Yesterday I decided I needed to get going on the fitness part of my journey. I moved my long forgotten treadmill out of the corner and set it up (no easy feat!) Next step was to clean it off; who knew that much dust could accumulate on one item? Finally plugged it in and after a few false starts got it programmed and running. Feeling motivated now I changed into exercise clothes, got my music and water ready and climbed on. I was walking at 3mph, going along nicely for about 20 minutes and a... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 12:54:46 EST Tried a new recipe http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5577927 I have been reading the Sparkpeople Cookbook and decided to try some new recipes now that my kitchen has been restocked. Last night for supper I made Baked Chicken Tender and Roasted Root Vegetables. For the first time through, they were delicious! I didn't have the Japanese bread crumbs (?) but put some Triscuits through my Magic Bullet and they were great! I also made the Applesauce Oatmeal muffins, adding raisins and walnuts. I'm glad I did because they are a little bland but that's probab... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 13:15:55 EST Kitchen Re-Stocked http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5576930 I braved the -30C temperature and went to the grocery store to restock. I started reading the Sparkpeople Cookbook last night so I had a list in hand after checking what I already had on hand. I was surprised that I could get everything on my list at my small local grocery store. I'm going to try a new recipe or two tonight.

Baby steps Tue, 31 Dec 2013 17:04:55 EST Kitchen Purge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5575875 I love being on holidays, especially the days after all the excitement and visiting when I can have the day to myself and regroup. That is what I did today after getting my wake-up jolt yesterday! I certainly appreciated all the people at Spark that took the time to encourage me.

Today I did a kitchen purge. I got rid of all the sweets (even threw out an unopened box of chocolates a student gave me) and junk food out of my house and took stock of my fridge and cupboards. I ate a he... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 17:46:55 EST Oh my http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5575189 I was totally shocked today when I stepped on the scale. I shouldn't have been, after all I have been eating anything and everything that I have wanted for months now and have not been exercising. My clothes were getting tighter, my body hurt and I had zero energy, napping all the time. But when I stepped on the scale and saw 292.5 I cried. This is the most I have ever weighed in my life. I am 56 with a family history of heart disease. What was I thinking???? Mon, 30 Dec 2013 00:31:53 EST I did it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5220817 I actually got up this morning an hour earlier than I usually do and got on the treadmill! I felt so much better afterwards and it seemed to start my day off well. I didn't notice any lack of energy during the day. I pushed myself to get some things done this evening too instead of sitting on the couch.

I have discovered something interesting. I had to make some cookies tonight for a school bake sale. I felt very much in control while I was doing it and not a single morsel passed ... Wed, 23 Jan 2013 22:06:42 EST No excuses http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5219312 Oh dear, life got in the way today. I missed my workout. But tomorrow I am going to get up earlier and JUST DO IT! :-) Stayed on track with everything else though. I just need to get into a fitness routine like I have with good eating and drinking the water and not drinking the pop. Hmmm I have made progress! The exercise will come too. Tue, 22 Jan 2013 22:09:59 EST Healthy snacking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5217008 This is one area that will do me in faster then anything...my snacking. I can be doing really well all day and then evening hits and look out! Today's SmartCoach video was about helathy snacking and there were some really good tips on what type of snack to choose and like everything else, I have to plan for it and stick to it. That will be my personal goal for this week: planned healthy snacking.

Tried my new treadmill out this morning and I LOVE it! Especially since it is -45 here... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 12:09:32 EST Motivators other than the scale. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5215765 I enjoyed watching today's video because I'm going through this right now. The scale isn't moving much, not like it used to when I was younger. But I have noticed other changes.

I have more energy throughout the day
My mood is better
My heel (Achilles Tendon) doesn't hurt nearly as much
Clothes are fitting a little looser.
Not getting nearly as many cravings and have adjusted to portion sizes.

I know the scale will move if I keep this up. Consistency... Sun, 20 Jan 2013 15:46:43 EST Time for some planning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5214302 I have slowed to a crawl weight loss wise so I'm going to take some time and do some menu planning today. I also need to get working out but something is holding me back. I know its going to be uncomfortable or I have it in my head that if I don't workout for an hour or even half an hour there is no point. I know, just excuses. But it really is a block for me right now and I can't seem to get moving Sat, 19 Jan 2013 12:51:31 EST TGIF http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5212788 Its seems to have been a stressful week at school, must be coming up to a full moon or something or maybe its the cold weather. My students are acting a little squirrely.

I got caught yesterday. I ordered a turkey bacon ranch wrap from our school cafeteria because I needed to go grocery shopping and thought I could take it easy at supper. Then a friend called and asked me to go with her for supper and a movie. Oops. I ordered a salad with chicken breast for supper (instead of piz... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 10:17:38 EST Bought a treadmill http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5207517 I'm pretty excited because I think I have found a solution to exercising in cold Manitoba Canada winters. I found a used treadmill (only used 6 times!) Its a NordicTrack with an extra wide bed, folds up and super quiet. Its about 10 years old but not used very much. They paid $1200, sold it to me for $300. I pick it up on Sunday, hope I made a good deal. Walking is still my favorite exercise.

I'm losing slowly (3lbs in close to 2 weeks) but at least I am losing and I refuse to get ... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 22:17:15 EST A great Sunday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5205947 I had a great day today. I felt like I needed to get out of the house after being cooped up with this blizzard and deep freeze we have been in here in Manitoba. I decided to go to Brandon (about 1hr away) to see Les Mis at the movie theatre. Just because I am alone doesn't mean I can't do things I want to do right? Right! Loved the movie! Afterwards I went shopping and bought myself a new digital scale and a food scale. Both were on sale! Perfect timing. Then I went shopping and stocked up on... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 23:51:07 EST Baby its cold outside! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5204324 We are in the midst of a good Manitoba deep freeze. Yesterday was a blizzard, today -30. No way I was going for a walk outside. Soooo, I need to find a good at home inside workout. I don't have any fitness equipment except a ball and light weights. Plus I don't have a whole lot of space. Its a challenge.

Food wise I am doing well and my motivation took a slight dip yesterday but I am back feeling great today. Just need to get through this cold snap :-) Sat, 12 Jan 2013 22:54:38 EST Day 8 Handling disappointment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5198438 Oh dear. After tracking and walking and making better food choices and being SO PUMPED I jumped on the scale this morning and .... nothing changed. What? This is my first week. Biggest Loser people drop 10-20 pounds! I know I'm not working out THAT hard but really? Not even a pound?Seriously?!?

Reality check: This is only one moment in time. Tomorrow that stupid scale may read something totally different. Quitting will NOT solve a thing. I know this is going to be a long journey so... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 09:34:02 EST Day 6 Very proud of myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5196093 Today went well, going back to school and facing all of my students after a nice break. I got up without hitting the snooze button (Yay) , and ate sensibly all day. Remembering to take a healthy snack for 4 o'clock sure helped. This evening I was so tired and sore but after watching The Biggest Loser I got off of the couch and walked 2.5 miles in 38 minutes then cleaned up the kitchen. Its now 10:30pm, I'm wiped out but very proud of myself! :-) Mon, 7 Jan 2013 23:34:19 EST Day 5 No snooze button this week! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5193041 Today is my last day to myself before heading back to work and I am procrastinating! I need to get going because I know I will feel better when I am better prepared.

Yesterday was a good day exercise and eating wise. Drank lots of water, no pop. I got lots of little things done around the house but I am avoiding my school work. I need to think more positively about this. I am going in to a long stretch... no holidays really until March. I have trouble pushing myself to get marking... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 12:04:58 EST Looking forward to more energy and less hurt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5191851 Today I decided to stretch my walk a bit and track it on my new pedometer app (which is awesome by the way!) I walked for 45 minutes and only really felt uncomfortable for the last 5 minutes when I had to pee! Drinking that extra water does have some drawbacks!

Yesterday I super cleaned my house. Christmas got put away and day to day things put back. I "found" my office, which is a terrific feeling because I have my own quiet space back again that is enjoyable to work in. Everythin... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 16:15:28 EST Day 3 Feeling more in control http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5190050 I hope I can count as high as the days I will need to reach my goal weight! :-)

Ok, turning to more positive thoughts...

I have managed to be 3 full days without any diet pop...just water. I'm not even missing it. I just have a water bottle always filled and cold close by and I'm all set.
Today I am feeling so much more in control and back on track. I'm planning ahead. Today I'm making some healthy soup and grilled some chicken breasts to have on hand to put on to... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 12:55:23 EST Day 2 and feeling positive. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5188364 I have been able to go diet soda free for 3 days now and that is HUGE for me. I woke up with a bad headache but once I got up and moving and drinking some water I felt better. I am going to tackle some household stuff and then go for a walk. Checking in and writing some things down makes me feel accountable, just what I need. :-) Thu, 3 Jan 2013 14:34:07 EST New Beginnings http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5186774 I followed the advice of another blogger here and have been deleting all of my old blogs and trackers, some going back to 2006! I agree with her, new year, new beginnings. I began tracking again today and feel so much better already. Happy New Year everyone! Here's to the best we can be. Wed, 2 Jan 2013 18:53:49 EST
