This is the same race I ran last year, and it was my very first race last year.

2013 Dunedin Hog Hustle 5k Results: (http://www.coolrunning.com/results/13/fl/
May11_14thAn_set1.shtml)
Clock Time - 40:10 Chip Time - 39:35

2014 Duned... Mon, 12 May 2014 09:16:10 EST Weekly Check In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5691115 Quick check in:

1) I have a 5k tomorrow. It's the one year anniversary of the first 5k I ran. Not sure how I'll do as my left calf has been sore. I think it could be a Jazzercise related injury. Stretching too far. Not sure. I'll listen to my body & if I need to walk more I will. I am promising myself to not be so concerned with my time.

2) I need to purchase new running shoes: a) I think the ones I'm using are contributing to my posterior tibial tendonitis; b) I want a ... Fri, 9 May 2014 08:40:42 EST Feeling the Spark http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5682383 I am in a great mood today. And here are the reasons why:

1. I ran twice this past week. And am experiencing no discomfort or pain in the posterior tibial tendon region.

2. I have signed up for another 10k in July. It's a midnight race so I'm not expecting a great time (and it'll be hot & humid). But I am going to give it my all. I am training for a 2 minute run to a 30 second walk for this one. I'm slowly working my way up the intervals as my leg continues to heal. I ... Mon, 28 Apr 2014 12:23:23 EST Back at it once again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5677183 I am so happy to be able to go to my jazzercise class 5 x's/wk again. I'm not even doing it on purpose. It just sort of works out that way. I love my jazzercise! I am very passionate about it and have made it a priority in my life for almost 10 years now. Also, I have gone for a few gentle run/walks the past 2 weeks and am not having any problems at all with my leg (problem I mentioned in previous posts). So I am ready to step it up and plan to run/walk Wednesday & Friday mornings before work... Mon, 21 Apr 2014 15:07:18 EST Checking In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5673598 1.) Well I am still struggling with the same 5 lbs I keep losing & gaining back. I have no one to blame but myself. I know what I'm doing right when the scale moves down, and I know what I'm doing wrong when it moves up. I think as soon as I see 145 I slack off and start to make more unhealthy choices.

2.) I have begun a very gentle training regime to nurse myself back to running. I have a 5k scheduled f... Wed, 16 Apr 2014 13:04:43 EST I Am Not Injured http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5668188 I ended up cancelling my Dr's appointment. I have been taking ibuprofen/acetaminophen, not running at all, and only doing low impact Jazzercise for almost 3 weeks now. I am happy to report that the discomfort I was feeling in my posterior tibial tendon region is non-existent at this point. I never had any limping or pain when I walked or did low impact jazzercise. Basically, only when I pushed on a very specific area on my inner calf/tibia area. I feel NO discomfort at all now; like normal ag... Wed, 9 Apr 2014 11:27:46 EST A First Time For Everything http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5662398 When I hopped on the scale this morning I was surprised to see that the number hadn't changed at all from yesterday morning. This is the first time I haven't seen it fluctuate all year.

I weigh myself at the same time every morning with nothing on but my glasses (so I can read the darn thing). I do this to take note of the changes in my body, to assess what I ate the day before, and how much sodium, etc. Plus, if the number creeps up consistently or a large amount in a short period... Wed, 2 Apr 2014 08:16:12 EST Bathing Suit Shopping http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5660687 I am going to Orlando this weekend for a mini-vacay with my cousin and I need a new bathing suit so we can hang by the pool, sip fun drinks & swim (to burn off those fun drinks). So, I went bathing suit shopping this weekend. If there's one thing I hate in this world, it's shopping for a bathing suit. We are all so critical of ourselves, especially if we don't look like that Victoria's Secret model in the dressing room mirror. At least that's how I feel. My first stop was at kohls because th... Mon, 31 Mar 2014 09:51:53 EST Injured http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5657760 Well it looks like I'm going to have to see an Ortho Doc. This pain just isn't going away and with the research I've been doing, sounds more & more like posterior tibial tendonitis instead of a shin splint. Not fun at all. I'm afraid that the Doc will tell me NO activity for 3-6 months. I hope not. But this problem has been going on for over a year & has gotten worse after I started running. Best to see the specialist.

MRI to confirm condition may be necessary.

In happi... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 10:53:44 EST Shin Splints http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5651692 So I have a really bad shin splint on the inside of my right calf. It hurts when I press in a very specific spot between the muscle & the tibia bone. :( So I have decided to take the next 4-6 wks off from running. I will not sign up for any races in that time period. And I plan to start back slowly and make sure I am training properly. I will also only be doing low impact in my jazzercise classes and have added bicycling to my weekend exercise routine to replace running for the time being & ... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 15:41:01 EST Ugh! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5649739 The scale has gone up once again. I was doing so well, then all of sudden... I guess maybe I got too cocky and thought because I am so active that I just stopped really paying attention to what I was putting into my body. So today is yet another new start to see if I can get the scale to start moving in the downward direction again. It's like I self sabotage myself when I get down to a certain weight and think "well I'm good here so I'll just start stuffing my face again." Apparently I'm no... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 09:10:39 EST Tracking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5645143 Ok, I'm just going to admit it. I hate to track my food. It's tedious and takes a really long time sometimes. Now I KNOW it does help with weight loss, provided I stick to my caloric range. However, I just hate it. I hated it when I was a Weight Watchers member and I hate it now. It's one habit I just can't seem to adopt to my everyday tasks.

Several things I am noticing while trying to really focus on a healthy way of life:

1) When I eat within caloric range & am eatin... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 08:37:01 EST Just Wanted To Share http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5641147 I just wanted to share with you all that I really look forward to logging in everyday to SparkPeople and reading the articles they have available, your blogs, the success stories and comments to my blogs. This is such a supportive community and it feels good to participate everyday. Sometimes many times per day.

So thank you all for being so Wonderful!!!!

212 Thu, 6 Mar 2014 08:48:58 EST This Journey is a Struggle http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640444 I continue to gain. It's very frustrating. I was losing for a while but now I am gaining. Even with ALL of the exercise I do. I guess I am still just not creating the calorie deficit I need to lose. I may also be taking in too much sodium as well.

I do not share personal information not related to weight loss, however, I think what I'm about to share is profoundly affecting my "journey" to a healthier way of life.

So here goes:

I live with my 62 (soon to be ... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 12:54:07 EST 1/2 Marathon Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5634524 I am very happy to report that my cousin & I crossed that finish line together. No balloon ladies for us!

We had a Magical time as only Disney can provide.

Final time was 3:29:07. It was so crowded in some spots that running was impossible plus we stopped a few times for pictures along the way. Or I think we would have been able to cross 15 to 30 minutes earlier.

So my first 1/2 marathon experience was wonderful. So wonderful, in fact, that I would love to m... Wed, 26 Feb 2014 16:09:44 EST Day 47 - 1/2 Marathon Count Down http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5628363 I'm just 4 days away from participating in my first 1/2 Marathon. I have spent the last year preparing for this and got up to 10 miles in my training without any problems. After all of my internet research of different people blogging about their experiences I wish I had put a time down to get assigned an earlier corral. My cousin & I are in corral "N", only 2 away from the last one "P". We are just too close to the balloon ladies (Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon). The balloon ladies are the p... Wed, 19 Feb 2014 13:01:23 EST Day 45 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5626230 I gained. I know what I did. Nuf said. Moving on now.

Have a great week everyone! Mon, 17 Feb 2014 09:05:47 EST Day 44 - It's Here http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5625331 First I wanted to say thank you all for making my last blog Voted Most Popular. That was a first for me and gave me such a feeling of accomplishment right when I needed it most. You are definitely a wonderful group of people!

It's here. I'm one week away until the Disney Princess 1/2 marathon. This past year really flew by. I've got my outfit and my motivation. I can do this. I'm lighter, I'm fitter, and I'm very determined. AND of course it's going to be soooo much fun! I can't... Sun, 16 Feb 2014 08:21:38 EST Day 34 - Downward Spiral but in a Good Way http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5616718 One thing I like about SparkPeople is the reports you can print out to review your progress, or lack thereof. Today I decided to look at the Weight Report since January 1st, 2014 because the scale just keeps going up & down. There doesn't seem to be any consistency from one day to the next. That is until I ran the report.

As you can see from the above image, there is an obvious downward trend to my wei... Thu, 6 Feb 2014 09:33:15 EST Day 31 - Reflections http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5613753 Ok, so just when I think the process is not working I look back at previous weigh ins & see that YES the weight is moving the in the right direction. It may not be moving as quickly as I'd like but it is still on a losing trend. I am averaging probably around 0.5 to 1 lb per week in weight loss. And I am definitely ok with that. The little numbers add up after a few months. So overall, I have lost a total of 4 lbs since really focusing on this journey and putting in the work.

I wa... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 09:03:05 EST Day 27 - Ups & Downs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5610143 The scale goes up, the scale goes down. I know what I'm doing right & I know what I'm doing wrong. Right now the scale is down & I need to go grocery shopping. I have my class this afternoon, followed by my regular jazzercise class. I plan to go grocery shopping tonight after that to avoid the store this weekend due to the Big Game. I do have a 12 mile run scheduled for myself on Sunday. We'll see if I'm up to the task.

I have, however, pulled a muscle in my lower back. I'm not sur... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 11:24:07 EST Day 17 - Why is it so hard? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5600037 Why is it so much harder to lose weight than to gain it? I hate that the ratios are 80% diet & only 20% exercise. It's way easier for me to workout than to watch what I am putting into my mouth.

I think that previous sentence is my food addiction talking. But that's enough whining for the day, time to focus on the positive.

1. I still showed a weight loss this week. Granted it was only 0.2 lbs but it's still a loss & not a gain.
2. I ran/walked 10 miles in 2 hrs 28... Mon, 20 Jan 2014 11:58:30 EST Day 12 - Planning is Key http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5594919 Oh boy! First time I didn't plan my meals for the day. I had school work last night & just didn't make the time. So where did I end up? Chick fil a. But I did get a salad. It just happened to be the Cobb Salad (fried chicken) and didn't op for a low fat dressing.

We have family living with us temporarily right now to help them get back on their feet. One major drawback is that they bring VERY unhealthy foods into the house. And me being a food addict, finds it very hard to resist t... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 15:45:22 EST Day 10 - Continuing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5592449 Just checking in for accountability.

I ran/walked/ran my 8 miles yesterday. And am planning for 10 this Sunday. I did stray a little bit from my "healthy" eating this weekend. But I tracked everything. I am not feeling discouraged. I still had a loss since starting this journey again.

Overall, I am feeling good about myself & the healthier habits I am forming.

Tonight, I JAZZERCISE!

Keep Sparking!!!! Mon, 13 Jan 2014 13:50:31 EST Day 8 - Weekends are the Hardest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5590345 All week I plan out my meals. I'm at work, so I can't just mindlessly eat because what I have is what I get. However, being at home where the food stock is considerable......LOL!

But I am not listening to the little devil on my shoulder. I am thankful there isn't any "junk" food in the house. And if I really want to eat something, I have to cook it first.

I ran/walked 3 miles last night with a goal of running 8 tomorrow. Today I went to my regular jazzercise class where... Sat, 11 Jan 2014 14:17:26 EST Day 7 - Weariness Sets In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5588955 Ok, so it's going on 1 week since I've begun to implement healthier habits.

I got on the scale this morning & I have lost 1.7 + 1.2 lbs for total of 2.9 lbs. Which is excellent. I am eating healthy in addition to my already active lifestyle. So I see progress not only on the scale but in the way I feel physically & mentally.

I started my new class last night and am feeling a bit intimidated by it. I do not have a science background, I'm technical. So I may struggle lear... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 08:50:57 EST Day 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5587812 Today I begin my 4th out of 5 classes towards my Graduate Certificate. I am excited because it's one the classes that sparked my interest in the program, it's in the afternoon instead of evening, and it's at the St. Pete campus instead of Tampa. So I'm thinking that my stress level should stay pretty steady throughout since I don't have a long drive to deal with or being starving when I get home.

Today I am feeling even more wonderful than yesterday. Tracking my foods is becoming... Thu, 9 Jan 2014 09:00:11 EST Day 5 - Noticeable Differences http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5586899 My victories and happies for Day 5 include the following:

1. I am not feeling bloated at all.
2. I feel lighter on my feet.
3. I have more energy.
4. I stopped working to look at the time & noticed it was 10:30 and I wasn't hungry for my mid-morning snack at all!
5. I am alert. Like a fog is lifting.

These happies are a result of increasing the consumption of nutritious whole foods and weeding out the junk foods. I have not had one soda (diet or othe... Wed, 8 Jan 2014 12:50:10 EST Day 4 - And I'm Still Going! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5586112 Ok, so this is a 2nd blog posting in one day to catch me up so that I am blogging on the actual day in the subject line.

Positive things to highlight for Day 4 include:

1. I consumed 8 cups of water.
2. I worked out.
3. I tracked everything I ate. Including that teeny tiny chocolate chip cookie.

Tomorrow, if the weather is warm enough, I will run. Otherwise I will go to jazzercise. I already have my clothes in my gym bag ready to go. I have my health... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 20:33:38 EST Day 3 - Still going strong http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5585277 Day 3 of the new healthier me went ok. I am still keeping promises to myself.

1. I ate healthy foods all day.

2. I went to my regularly scheduled Jazzercise class.

3. I drank 8 glasses of water. And had absolutely NO soda (diet or otherwise).

4. I did have 2 chocolate chip cookies. But I see this as a WIN because I only had 2. I didn't scarf down 5 or 10. Also, I tracked it.

What makes me happy for Day 3? Good question. I guess it's that ... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 07:44:00 EST Day 2 - Feeling Good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5583963 Day 2 of the new healthier me went very well. I am keeping promises to myself.

1. I ate healthy foods all day. I did have a serving of vanilla ice cream in the evening, however. But that's ok. I tracked it & was still in my calorie range. So better than Day 1. And I didn't go off the deep end and scarf a bunch of unhealthy foods afterwards either.

2. I ran/walked close to 6 miles yesterday. This Sunday will be 8 miles. I have to really push it since I'm behind my 1/2 mar... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 08:11:08 EST Day 1 - A Good Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5582187 I am proud of myself. I have only eaten healthy foods all day. I have logged everything I've eaten as well. And even though I went over my Spark People recommended calories, I am still happy.

1. I completed 2 Jazzercise workouts today. One was the regular class for 1 hr & the other was a special express class for us 150 class club members for 2013. Followed by a light brunch. Which is what put me over my calories but I didn't log until the day was over so I didn't know. But that's ... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 18:46:08 EST A New Beginning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5578459 Wow, 2014 already. It always amazes me how fast time flies as I age. When I was a kid, it didn't seem to go fast enough. LOL!

I haven't gone out for New Year's Eve in a few years, as I see it as a couple's Holiday. Plus, the drunk driver's, etc. So last night I poured myself a glass of wine & popped in my girl power movie Under the Tuscan Sun. After watching it, I started to think about what I want for myself which lead me to a reflection on this past year. I feel as if I hadn't a... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 19:43:54 EST
