It rain all night and at 6:30 this morning I was rudely awakened with a crash that shook the camper. Actually rocked it!! The awning roller buckled and broke due to too much rain on it. The canvas awning must have been weak from the hail damage and even though we had it tilted to drain, the canvas apparently didn't drain or stopped draining. Too much weight on it made it sag and the entire awning fell, slamming into the side of the camper. It s... Tue, 23 May 2017 20:07:47 EST Day #44 Travel day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6365394 WE took our time in check out this AM and were given a route to bypass the left turn out of the park. You can sit there 10 mins.with a left turn either way, for a break in traffic. Hwy 17 is a major artery along the coast. It would bring us from there to Myrtle Beach but we didn't want to take the camper through the narrow streets of Charleston. It was bad enough to get through Savannah on 17. Very smooth drive most the way and we were routed around town then getting onto 17. This is also the... Mon, 22 May 2017 23:01:58 EST Day #43 touring Magnolia http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6364919 Today was our last touring day here in Charleston. We will be moving on and have chosen Myrtle Beach for the next stop.

We went out to Magnolia Plantation and found out a lot. This is the 3rd house building on the same site. The original burned down after a lightening strike and the 2nd one was burned during the Civil War. Most of the plantation homes were lost in this area except the home next to Magnolia. The family owned both. The other home was the pastor Drayton. No one knows ... Sun, 21 May 2017 22:03:23 EST Day #42 touring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6364486 We sure did have a lot of walking today with unintended misdirection. It has been hot and the humidity has really increased. The sun has been full and unrelenting. BUT that being said, we enjoyed the day yet again.

We did a harbor tour out to Fort Sumter, one of the forts to protect the coast during the Civil War Era. We got to the tour boat about 5 mins before departing as we were directed to the other tour boat that we didn't have tickets to so a quick half mile walk to the next ... Sat, 20 May 2017 21:25:49 EST Day #41 touring http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6364100 We had an interesting time finding the visitor center in Charleston. There are a couple outside of town but we wanted to ride the CARTA (free hop on/off) and this center is in downtown. Drive along Hwy 17 which is the main road in and out and the road we took to get here from Savannah. Took about 5 mins to turn into our campground when we arrived so today we figured it would take that long to make a left turn to head in. Caught a break in traffic. That was our best drive of the day! :-) Heavy... Fri, 19 May 2017 20:59:51 EST Travel day #40 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6363723 Really nothing to share today except we took our time in leaving and arriving as it was only about 2 hrs. on the road to get to Charleston, SC. We found a beautiful campground at a "beautiful" price. They do have some strange to strict park rules and if you violate them, they kick you out. No refund for any reason!!

One of the strange rules is they can take photographs of you or any of your items like truck/camper etc without notifying you using the photos lawfully and without pay... Thu, 18 May 2017 21:59:16 EST Day #39 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6363259 Today's blog will be a little different as we didn't do any touring but did some shopping. We will be leaving here tomorrow and not traveling far. I think it's going to be Charleston, SC. We have been reading various articles on line and there are plantations that are open for tours. More history to be heard and more walking tours. I don't know if there are shuttles or hop on/off buses. Those are tremendous for people like us that haven't been in the area before. The drivers are the tour guid... Wed, 17 May 2017 20:24:28 EST Touring Day #38 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6362821 We enjoyed a full day in Savannah doing hop on/off touring. I found pictures on 4 of the places we saw and heard the history.

This is for the Girl Scouts in our reading group.

Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace

A significant destination not only for the world’s Girl Scouts, but for feminist tourism in general, the ... Tue, 16 May 2017 20:30:15 EST Travel Day #37 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6362401 This was an interesting day even though we had a very short day from Jacksonville, FL to Savannah, GA. We stopped at the Welcome Center coming into GA. and it's a good thing we did. Of course we love to look through and find fun things to do and the hostess is always willing to point people in one direction or another. They are well versed in the area/state. AND the state will notify the Welcome Centers of changes etc.

Today we were given a small map of a detour off I-95 which was ... Staged for the storms today. Yes, I was sweating. Didn't have to exercise with the heat radiating off the truck and the asphalt!! My hair was soaked. I helped Roger setup outdoors to get him in faster but it doesn't bother him as much as me. That gave the camper a little time to cool down. Then I could work indoors.

We are by the airport and definitely in the flight path for take offs and landings. I feel I had a res... Sat, 13 May 2017 21:45:17 EST Travel day #35 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6361182 WE have reached the end of I-10 so began our trek onto I-95 which goes all the way up the east coast along the Atlantic Ocean. We chose a beautiful and rather costly resort north of Jacksonville for the weekend. It is to rain tomorrow and Sun is Mother's Day so Not going back on the road until Mon. The rain is badly needed here and it sounds as though the "storm" will be a rain. Very dry and very hot! 97 when we arrived. Our truck has been keeping us cool until we take a lunch break. I think ... Fri, 12 May 2017 21:54:22 EST Day #34 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6360830 We tried to play tourist today but it wasn't to be. Roger told me today that the owner here kind of gave a negative comment when he asked about any places to go and tour.

We did go into Marianna, FL and found it to be a fairly large town. Drove the historic downtown street and everything appeared to be modern and fairly new. This link is a picture of several places we drove. Thu, 11 May 2017 22:58:23 EST Day #33, On the Road again. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6360399 We left Mobile, AL a little later in the morning and the 1st aha moment came as we crossed over the Mobile Bay bridge. It seemed to go on and on and on. I checked on the map and it shows it's 8 miles of bridge. I was watching for all kinds of wild life but only a few birds showed up. As we got into FL. the temp was going up. By the time we stopped, it was 93. Crossed another bridge that was much shorter in Pensacola, I think it was 3 miles long. Didn't know where we were going to stop so mad... I can feel the days flying by when I put the next number up yet we are enjoying the travels and see what our country is made of. We are finding a lot of kindness and helpfulness in every city we have gone to. We took a short tour of the city of Mobile and others that got on the trolley were locals. They were all interesting in sharing more about their city. We stopped at a Winn Dixie grocery store and when we went through checkout, the c... Tue, 9 May 2017 21:39:57 EST Travel Day #31 Amazing day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6359490 Today there are a few "little" things to share with you. We were just about to head on out of our campground in Gulfport, camper hooked up, truck running and I can't find my keys. Of course, I am the one that loses things so Roger begins looking and I know I had hung them up. Remember, I said the truck was running? Why then did he have a set of keys in his hand? Had to ask him that. He looked at me, handed them over and walked to the truck!! It wasn't me at all (LOL) And the day began.
... Mon, 8 May 2017 21:55:42 EST Day #30. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6359056 Can you believe it's been 30 days of our travels and writing something about it daily? It's hard for us to believe we have been gone this long and we are having a wonderful time. Today we chose to go shopping at the Premium Outlet Mall here in Gulfport. My SP friend was working at an outdoor stand that has goat's milk care products. Got a short time to visit again. And of course we bought a few things. This outlet mall is a little different that ones I am used to but I have to remember that ... The highlight of the day has been meeting up with a good SparkFriend and having a wonderful lunch at Shaggy's, a seafood place. We are in Gulfport, MS. and spending the weekend. Knowing we were heading along the Gulf, today was one of my hopes for the weekend that we could meet and chat for a while. We talked and talked and probably could have talked more. The food was delicious. My DH and I had red shrimp which we had never heard of nor tasted. Very good!! Strong s... The winds were very strong and difficult to handle so we knew we wouldn't go far. We had to cross a bridge that is 5-6 miles long over open water, No land to be seen!! Tough drive and kind of frightening. It was 3 lanes each way but hard to stay in your lane. Thank heavens we got across and found the Gulf coast. We were almost on the beach. They have been changing the forecast off and on and this AM said it would begin this morning and not about 4 PM. Now if it had been 4 we would have gone into town. But, instead we got out about 9:30 and got the groceries we needed. There is a WalMart and a Winn Dixie just up the road. Went to WalMart 1st and we were going to stop at Winn Dixie to see about carbonated water there without Aspert... Tue, 2 May 2017 21:35:58 EST Day # 24 and in NOLA!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6356371 Beautiful travel day. Light winds and sun shine. Makes it easier to travel. We are now in New Orleans. We had picked out a Passport America Campground and got there, drove through as no one was there to register us. But it was in a poor area of town and the sites (they said) would not accommodate a 45 ft. rig. We would have been hanging in the road with our 32 ft. and truck beside if you could. Starting looking at the buildings around and we think we got into the Ninth District as there were... It began about 2 AM with lightening and thunder and 2 frightened dogs. I poured throughout the night until about 8 AM. We had a lake surrounding us this morning. Now when we arrived in this park on Fri, we could pick our own site so got it backed in and I stepped off the cement into mud under grass. They had rain on Weds. night according to our neighbors. Last night, we don't know the inches gotten but the grass was all flooded. We were able to walk this aftern... Fri, 28 Apr 2017 22:28:13 EST Travel, Day 21 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6354533 I can't believe we have been on the road for 21 days now. It doesn't seem like we have progress far but if we think of the miles we have driven in those 20 days, about 2,200, we have gone a long way. We left Texas behind, finally, today. (LOL) We have been in and out of the state several times this spring and had some amazing times.

I found an inspiring quote that we have been doing along our travels and that's smile!!

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeople.com/guid/ed... We are going to be on the road most the summer and it's going to be a large number so will think about it. I had a comment that the individual was worried I wouldn't continue writing. So far from the truth! We have so much magnetism to storms and other things, I just have to share them with you all.:-)

Today we look around the campground and all the pine trees. So tall and majestic looking. I am hoping they will c... I am sure they will let us win it back:-)D

Left there today and are now situated in Clear Spring Park Campground which is an Army Corp area. Heading towards Texarcana which is on the border of AR, OK and TX. It's close to the border of LA too. It gets us closer to our thoughts of traveling alone the Gulf coast over towards FL. The coast line, we have not been to. Looking forward to continuing our travels.

I have found it hard to keep getting my exercise in besides walks. As told yesterday we chose to stay the weekend here at WinStar casino due to potential storms rolling through that would follow us.

We had to move off our site we had as the row was rented out to a group. So we were moved to a backin site not far from our previous one. We are glad we stayed as the major part of this storm system rolled through at dinner time. Chose to remain in the camper with the dogs whom both are now afraid of storms. I said a few ... Thought about leaving early tomorrow but the storm is headed right with us and instead of coming tomorrow night, it's tonight through Fri. So after some thought, we are staying here at WinStar for the weekend. We are close to a storm shelter and our other choice is the Corp of Engineers in the woods where we would have full shade which means trees all over. Here we ... This morning got up and went to breakfast at the casino. The breakfast is the least expensive meal of the day which is $15.95. BUT on Weds. and Thurs. for those over 50 years young, it's free!! So one night of camping covered. I really ate everything I shouldn't have but enjoyed. Are we going tomorrow? You bet!! Another freebie. And of course there are those machines that have a pull. Thought about going up tonight but I am down a little s... Wed, 19 Apr 2017 21:56:48 EST Travel Log Day #12 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6350423 This was an interesting day even though we drove casually for most the day. The highway we chose was as straight as an arrow. Part way as we got closer to the norther border, the wild flowers were starting to show up. The more we drove the more we saw. Initially it was scatterings. Then the road ditches and center were looking like snow drifts as they came into view. Mostly whites which I think are the white poppy and then pink poppies. We wondered where the Blue Bonnets and Indian Paintbrus... A friend posted pictures of our church's Easter breakfast and it sure did look tasty. Thanks for the pictures, Abel!

Left Roswell this AM and I don't think either of us suffered a loss of time while there so the aliens that tend to abduct you wasn't around during our stay. Very interesting town an much bigger than we thought. The museum was interesting but we have both seen documentaries on the 1947 "supposed" crash of a space ship or now known as an UFO. We left the Fort Davis campground that we found to be over priced and no in good repair this AM. I was surprised that I felt fairly good after the steep climb to the Observatory. The gentleman tour guide is very knowledgeable with the subject and the Visitor center has several short documentaries on the various methods they can now use through the telescope. They people that want to come and use the telescopes must write a paper on what they are working with ... I won't go into detail until probably Mon as we head out of the big basin. Beautiful rock formations and brown colors. Have a great weekend to all. Sat, 8 Apr 2017 20:18:09 EST Travels, Day 1 & day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6345329 There has not been too much to tell of our story yet.
