The college where I work is promoting a healthy living agenda for all faculty and staff. They've held health workshops and other various activities aimed at helping employees live a healthier, more productive life. The cynic in me says, "Yeah, it's all in an effort to have us at work more and to get more work out of us." But the angel on the other shoulder says, "But is there something wrong with having a healthier life?" No o... Fri, 28 Feb 2014 14:23:29 EST Needing some healthy breakfast ideas http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4385539 Ok, I haven't written one of these in a while, so no one may read this. If you do, thanks!

I'm needing some healthy ideas for breakfast; preferably something quick or can be done in a batch cooking session. I like oatmeal, but it's just too stinkin' hot to be eating oatmeal in the morning. When the lows are around 80 with the humidity just as high, the last thing I want to be sticking in my mouth is something hot.

So, give me your ideas. I'd be glad to hear them. Fri, 20 Aug 2010 22:39:28 EST If today is any indication... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3520071 this week is going to be a hectic week. Let me 'splain.

I work in IT for a community college. The college has 3 campuses and I'm responsible for one of those campuses. Last week we had two power outages due to weather, Wednesday and Saturday. That always makes for a rough day following the outage as it causes all sorts of problems for the equipment. Well, today all of the instructors came back, which is always hectic because they've been gone for 3 months and nothing seems to work ... The operator song is now out of the playlist on the podcast!!! WHOOP! Seriously, where did that song come from. I noticed that at the end of this week's podcast that Ullrey says something about sending him song suggestions. Something tells me that he knew that song was just flat out bad.

I had some troubles with week with my left calf. I say that with a ! at the end because I loved it. At first I wasn't too sure that I'd like it, but it turns out that I love it.

What is eating primal, you say? Well, it can be summed up as eating a low carb diet, but it's more than that. It's not a diet by definition, more like a life-style. You can read more about it here - www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-blueprint-1
01. If you don't want to read, basically to lose weight I eat... Mon, 2 Aug 2010 23:06:54 EST Just finished C25K Week 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3463292 Well, today I finished up Couch-to-5K week 3. My averages per day were:
1.8 miles
14:29 min/mile (kinda slow, but when you at in 5 minutes for warm-up and 5 for cool-down, it really lowers your pace)
4.15 MPH
148 HR BPM

Not bad all in all. I do my runs on a treadmill, so I set my walks at 3.5mph and runs at 6mph. It's a shorter time length this week for some reason. I could fit another 90 second run in, and I did on one day. The other two days I had stitches in ... Fri, 23 Jul 2010 21:16:58 EST What's the difference? Today was day 44 of my Insanity journey and it was a lot better than what I put in my last blog. Same workout (Max Interval Circuit) but better results.

My quads didn't burn/hurt near as bad, which was a great help. I feel like I was able to go just a little further with each move as well... again, probably because of my quads. By the time the 3rd circuit came around I was running out of gas, and quick! Those side suicide jumps are aptly named. The full body... Tue, 16 Feb 2010 20:29:16 EST Homemade oatmeal bars? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2888937 Just want to share this real quick. If you're a cook, or even if you're not, please give me your suggestions.

I had this thought the other day. Take some instant serve oatmeal (flavored), prepared it with water, and make it thick. Spread it on a cookie sheet and bake for a few minutes. Basically long enough to solidify it but not dry it completely out. Pop out of the cookie sheet and cut into bars.

Whatcha think? Might make a pretty descent snack. From warm-up to the first round of the first circuit my quads just didn't hold up. Well now I'm on to a new month and new workouts, so expect more blogging.

Today was my second "max" workout of the second month of Insanity - Max Interval Plyo. Last week was a super busy week for me and I barely had time to work out, much less write a blog. Forgive me.

Last week was recovery week for Insanity. Honestly, the work out was very welcome. Don't get me wrong, you'll sweat just as much with this workout, but it moves at a much slower pace. I'll be honest here, I missed two days (Monday/Thursday) of working out. Monday I didn't feel good and just couldn't make myself do it. Thurs... Insanity month 1 is now history and I'm stoked! (Man, that's an old word.) First off, today's workout...

Today was Cardio Circuit. This is probably the first time that I've realized a massive change in my ability to complete the workout. I wasn't with them move-for-move, but I could tell I completed more than I ever have. Not sure why honestly. Maybe it's because I've been doing this for a month, or maybe it's because... <BR... Sun, 31 Jan 2010 09:08:44 EST Insanity Day 22 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2797148 Wow! Today is the beginning of the end for the first month of Insanity. This week is comprised of the "normal" workouts, with next week being a recovery week. One solid week of Core Cardio & Balance. I have yet to watch that one, so we'll see what it's like then I guess.

I really like how I feel along with the 3 lbs that I've lost this month. I still have another week to lose more though, so hopefully I can say I've lost more than that. I always hope for more than just a pound a we... Sun, 24 Jan 2010 08:16:39 EST Insanity week 3 complete! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2787034 Oi! It's been a few days since I last wrote, sorry about that. It's been a busy week and time to sit down and compose a thought has been scarce. Lack of sleep, and bad sleep when I actually got some, didn't help either. Enough excuses though. Let's get to it!

Today marked the end of week 3 of my Insanity workout. I've noticed that I'm doing a little more of each exercise. Not much, but every little bit counts, right? Pure Cardio still wipes the floor with me though. Keeping up with... At first I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to workout at all. Toward the end of work today a headache started brewing on the horizon. It wasn't too bad when I got home, but was definitely building. I immediately took two Advil and hoped for the best.

I got dressed and working out right away. Each move jarred my head, but by the end of the warm-up either the Advil kicked in or the endorphin... Today was day 15 of Insanity and Fit Test #2. Roughly 30 minutes of pushing yourself as hard as you can to see how you've progressed over the last two weeks.

Even though this is ONLY a test, I sweat buckets. It's still an Insanity workout, albeit with 60+ second breaks between each move. And you need those breaks too. Let's see how I did.

(Just so thing wil... Mon, 18 Jan 2010 14:31:31 EST Weigh-in day: A little bummed... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2756213 So today is my weigh-in day after two weeks of Insanity, and while I'm not as disappointed as last week I'm still a little bummed. The scale said 196.0. That's a 0.6 lb loss. I really shouldn't be bummed, but I guess I'm expecting more. My wife hasn't lost a single pound yet and she's doing it right beside me. Actually, I think she did lose some, but it went back up on her weigh-in day.

I still can't move my weight ticker yet, so maybe next week. I'm still going to keep pressing pl... Sun, 17 Jan 2010 07:46:46 EST Insanity Week 2 FINISHED!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2754909 WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!! Today was the end of Insanity week 2! Wow, two weeks ago I was wondering what in the world I was getting myself into. Now I look back on what I've done and see nothing but good. Hopefully it will pay off on the scale tomorrow.

Today's workout was Pure Cardio AND Cardio Abs. Oi! No breaks, at least not scheduled, and throw on top of that a 20 minute insane ab routine. I noticed that I'm doing better about doing each exercise for the allotted 60 seconds. I'm ... Taken slightly out of context, but that's sure what today's workout felt like! I wasn't being crashed into, but I sure felt like I was crashing today. Let me 'splain.

I got home for lunch today and didn't feel like having the same ole, same ole. My wife talked me into going to the local greasy spoon for a hamburger. I'm talking about Insanity day 11 - Cardio Recovery, that's what! Indeed, the opening sentences of this blog are "tongue in cheek" and today really is a recovery day... at least compared to the other days.

Cardio Recovery is like a super stretch workout. ... Thu, 14 Jan 2010 18:36:51 EST Insanity Day 9 & 10 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2741274 Sorry about missing Tuesday's blog about Insanity. It was Pure Cardio day (remember? the one with no breaks) and I was just bushed. Immediately after working out and showering, I started up the grill in 45* weather because my wife had a hankering for chicken fajitas. I feel a Bill Cosby "Baaaaaaaaaaaar-Baaaaaaaaaaaaay-Quuuuuuuuu
e" coming on!

Today was Cardio Circuit. It ran the whole gamut of moves; from head to toe and back again, and I feel great. The workout for today was Cardio Power & Resistance and lasted for approximately 40 minutes. Correction... 40 GRUELING minutes.

Today was rough on me for some reason. By the 2nd round through the moves I was having trouble keeping up and found myself finishing about 10 seconds before they did. That might not be too bad considering this is my first time through Insanity, but I know that I can do better.

... Mon, 11 Jan 2010 20:49:26 EST Smoothie diet / recovery drink http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2731235 My wife ran across something the other day called a smoothie diet. Thinking that it might help boost her weight loss she's decided to try it, and tonight we gave it a test drive. The diet itself consists of drinking one smoothie for breakfast and one for lunch. Dinner was supposed to be in the 500-600 cal range, and of course be balanced.

Here's what it consists of...

* 1 frozen banana
* 1 tbsp protein powder
* 1 cup water
* handful of froz...
