ISHIIGIRL's SparkPeople Blog ISHIIGIRL's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Head Games and The Beck Diet Weekends have always been difficult for me in the whole weight loss thing. First, its difficult to "watch what I eat" I used to think it wasn't important and that delayed my weight loss. Then I thought "I need a break"- stinkin thinkin. Then I realized that mistake and started tracking and behold, the weight started coming off more quickly. I still struggle.
So yesterday when I saw a beautiful 3 lbs down on the scale, I was exstatic! Today, I was apprehensive. Not because I had ov... Sun, 7 Dec 2014 09:18:26 EST The Beck Diet Day 21- Get Ready to Weigh In About a week has gone by since I last blogged. That is about all I can manage with my schedule and other factors in my life right now.
Today on The Beck Diet Solution is Day 21, Get Ready to Weigh In. In the past, this would have sent shivers up my spine, so obsessed with the scale would I become that the thought of standing on the scale was just terrifying. Through The Beck Diet Solution and the lessons I have learned so far, I am no longer panicked by the scale. I know I can control ... Sun, 30 Nov 2014 09:58:18 EST Did I really think the scale was going to move and Beck Diet Day 14 Did I really think the scale was going to move? Yes, why yes I did. I must admit when I stepped on it this morning Iexpected it to be a few lbs. down. Now, it didn't move much, but it went in the wrong direct and let me tell you from this scale obessessed girl, it was a disappointment to say the least. What did I expect? Since I have been reading the Beck Diet book, and had the big aha momment of Don't Eat While Standing and been very diligent on this for a week, I expected to see the scale... Sun, 23 Nov 2014 09:57:24 EST The Beck Diet Day 6- Choose a Diet Coach Because I am an extremely independent person, this has been a hard one for me to wrap my head around. I am simply at a loss. I asked my husband to be my Diet Coach and he agreed but said, Can we be accountability partners? I was a little blown away that he even knew that term! So I was pretty excited but I am nervous at the same time. He is very supportive but I am not sure he is the right choice. But I trust him more than anyone else.
So this is so hard for me simply because of t... Sun, 16 Nov 2014 09:26:49 EST The Beck Diet Day 3 So today I read the Day 3 strategy. Don't eat while standing up. At first I thought, I don't eat while standing up and then it dawned on me when i started to read the items
1. Do you eat the samples at the grocery store?
2. Do you sample dinner while cooking?
3. Do you sneak bites from someone else's plate?
4. Take a spoonful of something right out of the container or grab a chip from the open bag on the counter?
5. Take a piece of candy from the candy bowl at... Wed, 12 Nov 2014 22:28:16 EST Starting The Beck Diet Solution I am going to do it. I am taking the plunge. I have been persuaded. I have read the first 50 pages and am ready to do my advantage cards. I am so hopeful this program will help me get back on track and get back to my goal weight. I am re-evaluating that number and although I haven't made a decision to really change it yet, I know that lowest achieveable weight is not lowest sustainable weight. I am excited to see where this program leads me. I already can hear myself protesting and the ... Tue, 11 Nov 2014 08:14:58 EST Positive Self Talk So I was reading WATERMELLEN's blogs about the Beck Diet and I think I am going to give reading it a try. Can't hurt, right? However, one thing that I have been trying ( that I am usually really bad at) is positive self talk.
With the event of DayLight Savings, I have noticed a marked increase in my SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorder). This usually turns into depressing thoughts and those thoughts turn inward to all of the things I feel I have failed at. Although I have maintained MO... Tue, 4 Nov 2014 08:11:25 EST A Potential Lifesaving Procedure Everyone Should have done! This year I turned 50. Everyone knows when you turn 50 you need to get a colonoscopy! Done- the prep was not so pleasant but the procedure itself was painless! And the best part is that I now know that it was well worth it! I had two polyps removed and will know in a few weeks if I need to go back in 5 yrs or 10 yrs depending on the results of the pathology report. If I had not been proactive and scheduled this exam, I could potentially be looking at some serious consequences. I encourage all... Sat, 25 Oct 2014 11:31:06 EST The Perils and Tribulations of Maintaining a 70 lbs Weight Loss Over Time Good Morning Spark Friends,
It is good to be back at blogging after a long hiatus. I need to say that due to extreme stress at work and being completely bogged down with other responsibilities, I haven't even thought of blogging, until today.
So this blog is going to be about the trials and tribulations I have experienced over the last two years of trying to maintain my weight loss with some success. I was having a few epiphanies on why only 5% of losers maintain that weight loss.... Sun, 12 Oct 2014 09:58:16 EST Dear fitbit friends My dearest fitbit friends, my fitbit didn't have a charge for several days to the fact I lost my charger. Argh! I looked and looked to no avail. I ended up purchasing a new one off of amazon, gotta love free two day shipping!
Anyway, this resulted in a large depletion in my daily steps. I am sure you were all thinking I was in a terrible accident or I had completely lost my fitbit yet again! No, nothing like that, just needed to wait to get it charged. Fustrating none the less. Rest as... Fri, 20 Jun 2014 07:26:11 EST 4 Days of tracking, no scale movement Wow, I haven't blogged in a long time. Bad me!
Okay, so after watching the scale creep up to the highest I have seem it in 5 years, I am not happy. The number that always depresses me is 166. I have been struggling with this for about 2.5 years. Nothing seems to work for me, except tracking and eating a balanced diet.
So I started tracking at the beginning of this week and today, no change! Argh! I guess I need to give it a little more time, I really didn't get enough fiber in... Sat, 3 May 2014 10:01:52 EST Happy Hormones Slim Belly by Jorge Cruise This blog will be a quick overview of the book with some personal comments.
So first off, I was very intrigued by the title of this book. If you are not familiar with Jorge, he is the Belly Fat Cure dude and totes a low sugar approach to weight loss. That is the hype. The reality is that is just another low carb diet. What I mean by that is he is really talking about carb cycling.
His premise is that carbs add to your waistline as we age so limiting carbs and eating off of the lo... Sat, 1 Mar 2014 11:20:31 EST What makes me mad Do you want to know what makes me mad? My companies LiveWell program!
I work for a healthcare organization, one of the countries best. They have this incentive program to Live Well, but they have it all wrong.
For the past three years, when I do their health evaluation, they always tell me the same thing. I need to lose weight and I need to work on my nutrition.
Really? I, who have kept my 70 lb weight loss off for over 5 year and have learned to eat healthy, can't meet thei... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 18:29:25 EST Starting the New Year off right! How? By tracking! So this particular week is usually a very challenging week for me with all of the Christmas goodies hanging around. In the past, I have put on a good 5 lbs even with the best of intentions. So far, I have stayed the course. I was on a downward trend last week but a few too many unhealthy choices have found me back at my current weight. A weight I have been maintaining for the past two years ( although it is 12 bls higher than my goal weight, at least I am maintaining at this current weight). ... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 11:39:35 EST A First Time for Everything The other day my gym got a new stair machine. I have never tried that before so in an attempt to mix things up, I gave it a whirl.
I wouldn't recommend it for anyone trying to get in a good cardio workout. I worked really hard, I was sweating profusely after about 20 mins and my legs felt like jello but I never raised my heart rate very high. My fitbit didn't track it as very strenuous either. 40 . But it was different and it was a good workout.
I have heard its great... Wed, 11 Dec 2013 12:31:56 EST Ok, hold your horses! Im getting back on the band wagon Ewe. I just realized its been since Thursday since I have done any kind of real food tracking, and then it was only until dinner. So today I will get back on the band wagon and be diligent in my tracking. It seems to be working. My pants are looser than they have been for awhile. I also attribute this to the extra exercise I have been doing. Two days a week of spin, two days a week of WT and two days a week of elliptical. Its working and doable.
My stress level at work has been through ... Sun, 17 Nov 2013 09:44:28 EST Revisiting old blogs is a good way to get back in touch with my journey So I went back and started reading some of my very first blogs here on Spark. It is a good way to get back in touch with my journey and a reminder of where I have been. Here is one of my first posts.....

urnal.asp?id=ISHIIGIRL&page=1
Sun, 10 Nov 2013 08:28:59 EST NIbbles, Grazing and SAD Its another week of trying to track my food with the nutrition tracker. This is about the time that I get derailed from my good intentions. Its week three of tracking and I feel myself backsliding.
Yesterday seemed like an exercise in futility. I had the munchies really bad. I always do pretty well during the day. Its the evenings where I struggle most.
Around late afternoon, I typically grab a snack before my spin class to help me power through til dinner. I had my cheese stick ... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 08:13:02 EST Filled Up my Gratitude Journal This morning I sat down to write in my gratitude journal and realized the pages were all filled. Time for a new journal. Has this ever happened to you? You go through life expecting that the next page in the story will be blank and you can fill it as you wish only to discover, the pages are all gone? Or have you ever read a story and been so absorbed in it that you came to the end and never realized it? How many people do you know who travel through life aimlessly and never stop to see where... Tue, 29 Oct 2013 08:04:48 EST Good choices pay off Yesterday after my spin class, hubby picked me up. On the way home, he announced that the blood work he had done at his physical came back with the results. For a 47 yr old male, he is in excellent health. The only thing that was out of line were his triglycerides, and he is aware that is because of his weight.
Although he has never been one to jump on the weight loss band wagon, my positive influence has really paid off.
I have always told him for the last several years ( when he... Thu, 24 Oct 2013 08:26:39 EST Fitbits in the Mail~ In December of 2013 I purchased a fitbit in hopes that it would help to motivate me. It really did help motivate me and at the same time it gave me a good picture of where I was with my fitness goals. I had no idea I averaged 11,500 steps in a day and frequently got in 15,000. Well. a few months ago the clip on my fitbit started to wear out. I am a very dedicated fitbit user. I wore that thing night and day.
Needless to say, I changed how I was using the fitbit. I started putting it... Wed, 23 Oct 2013 08:01:42 EST Two weeks of Nutrition tracking down So begins the third week of getting back to basics and tracking my nutrition. Unfortunately, I did not see the numbers on the scale in my favor this week. The scale moved in the wrong direction but I am going to attribute this to the popcorn I ate at the movies on Friday. I just have to be so careful with what I eat. Its so fustrating. I had a solid plan, but oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes.
The pattern that I see emerging is an old one for me, and one I know many pe... Sun, 20 Oct 2013 09:10:20 EST Pizza Lunch- Plan of Action So the weigh in went really well. 4 lbs down. I was off for a long fall break. It was back to work yesterday. It was interesting in the tracking department how much more I eat while at home. There are so many temptations around.
I am glad to be back at my regular routine. Its amazing how your battery can be recharged just from taking a few days off.
OH, I have to write about my plan of the day. Today we are having pizza during a lunch meeting. I know, I know, its PIZZA and I sho... Wed, 16 Oct 2013 11:37:03 EST What's more Horrifying than the scale? So today begins the 4th day of back to basics and tracking my food. I am curious about my progress and am very tempted to step on the scale but I know myself. I know that if I don't see the expected results the disappointment will be crushing.
You see, I have this problem. Its a love hate relationship with the scale. I have known for a long time that the scale can be my best friend or my worst enemy. Psychologically, I know that the scale is just feedback. Its just a reflection of my o... Fri, 11 Oct 2013 08:46:40 EST Stepping Up my maintenance efforts So as part of my getting back to basics I am going to try and start blogging more consistently. I have never been a very consistent blogger. However, I have read a lot of reports stat blogging can help you lose weight and stay on track.
yesterday, I started tracking my food again after a long hiatus. So now I am adding in one more healthy habit to help keep me accountable. What are some of the ways you stay accountable in your weight loss or maintenance efforts? Wed, 9 Oct 2013 12:58:35 EST The Best Compliment As I was leaving my spin/WT session at the gym Monday night the very young soccer star intern physical trainer/instructor told me she was so impressed with how in shape I was! Well! Needless to say I was very flattered and that made me feel really good about myself considering I haven't been running at all due to my plantar fasciitis. I'll take it! Compliments are always welcome! Thu, 3 Oct 2013 07:46:51 EST Running in Vibrams So I have been transitioning my running from heel striking to toe running. It has gone pretty good. it has been a lot harder than I thought but I am really liking it. My sciatic nerve doesn't seem to be bothering me as much but my piriformis fasciitis is still kicking in after my run so I thought I would take the plunge and try out my vibrams. I have had them since Christmas but never had the nerve to run in them as I had been told how difficult of a transition it is. Well, yes it is. But ... Sat, 25 May 2013 13:20:23 EST Self Motivation I didn't have any this morning. After hitting it hard for the last three days I am just physically pooped. Today was a run day and I just couldn't bring myself to it. Ugh! then I read the Best of Sparkpeople. They had an article this morning on motivating yourself when no one else will. I think that is all I needed. I am ready to get my exercise in. Too bad i wasted the time by twittling away my morning. I guess I will have to find a way to get in my run this afternoon, which rarely happens b... Thu, 23 May 2013 08:43:12 EST Wow, I can't believe it has been 5 months! Yesterday's 5K wrapup since I last blogged.
I haven't blogged in a while for a few reasons. The main reason being that I lost focus on why I blog. I don't blog for anyone but myself. I am somewhat introverted and blogging for the world to see is not really my style so I do read quite a few blogs but I don't feel compelled to put it tout there for others all the time.
I am happy if people want to read my blogs and I have helped in some small way but really, I blog for me.
So, I am blogging toda... Sun, 12 May 2013 09:28:52 EST Starting new goals for the New Year. Why Wait? I was just looking at my weight loss goals and re-evaluating. I initially gave myself until yesterday to lose the 20lbs I have put back on. Guess What? I missed that target date, but I did lose 9 lbs so almost half way back to my initial goal weight of 147.
So if I do the math, that means in 4 months I lost 9 lbs. This includes all of the Holidays. So to stay consistent and to stay within my range, I am giving myself another 4 months to lose the last 10 lbs to get back to goal. Totally... Fri, 21 Dec 2012 14:17:59 EST Proof the scale is bogus! So for the past several weeks my scale has been on the fritz due to it needing a new battery. I kept forgetting when I went to the store so I wasn't able to weigh in for awhile. My pants started to feel a little looser a few weeks ago. I have had a hard time getting in exercise and tracking my food because of my very busy schedule the last few weeks. I have also not been able to eat very regularly so instead of several small meals I have been eating when I can.
So I decided to grab ... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 08:47:25 EST Negative Body Image I just read this article on Negative Body Image. I thought it was really great. I found that following other spark buddies who were striving for the perfect body was detrimental to my own healthy living journey and this article somewhat confirms that theory.

body-image/?cm_mmc=Newsletter-_-110949
0-_-11192012-_-6WaystoBoostYourBodyCon
fidence-Grid1

Living a healthy lifestyle should be about how we feel and less abo... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 16:55:40 EST Epic Fails are really just a chance for re-calibration! Time Change Sucks! I was going to write a blog about my epic fails this week but after reading some really inspiring blogs I think I will just quickly recap.

Epic Fail #1...I started off the week by making a goal of losing 2 lbs. I typically weigh in today. Well, I am up early and have been battling a little insomnia this week due to anxiety so no weigh in today for me. Why add to my stress. Its ok, I still feel good about most of my choices so maybe not such an epic fail?

Epic Fail #2..... Sat, 10 Nov 2012 08:22:32 EST It doesn't matter one way or the other if I reach my goal weight by Dec 20th. I started trying to get back to goal 11 weeks ago. I initially gave myself until Dec 20th to reach that goal. That would mean in the first 11 weeks I have lost 7 lbs and that I have 7 weeks left to lose 11 lbs. If I don't reach that goal, will I quit? NO! I will just keep going. Slow and steady wins the race after all.
I knew it would be a challenge when I initially setup this goal since I am a slow loser but I thought it was achievable. Do I s... Sun, 4 Nov 2012 09:19:43 EST Reflections and Regrouping The scale is moving in the wrong direction. It was up 1 lb today. I am hoping it was a result of too many high carbs yesterday and that it will correct itself. I know what I need to do. I have not been eating all of my vegetable servings and yesterday we had a lot of candy pushers at work and then dinner was bangers and mash ( my first attempt at making it) and then my DD made her first pumpkin pie from scratch. Oh, and we had gone out to eat for lunch yesterday as well. So I don't usually ... Sat, 20 Oct 2012 09:13:57 EST After 3 years of Maintenance I am still learning 1. that the scale is just feedback. It doesn't define who I am. This is one that I struggle with. But I am getting better. As I try to get back to my goal weight, it has been a good tool to measure my progress. I have learned that if I let it affect my emotional well being, then I will also let it affect my progress. When you are trying to lose, progress is key.
2. That what works for one, doesn't work for all. For the last two years I have been searching. Searching and trying out ... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 10:29:49 EST Im not going to do it! I am not going to weigh in today. I just can't face the scale so I am taking a week sabatical and we'll see what it says next week That doesn't mean I am not measuring my progress. I will get to that in a sec.

After not seeing any scale movement last week and the fact it was followed by a very stress filled weekend and a stress filled week, I made the choice that today I needed to rejuvenate and the last thing I wanted to see is the number on the scale. As I have said in the pas... Sat, 15 Sep 2012 09:52:38 EST Weigh in Day~ Not going to obsess about the scale, its just a tool, not my self worth! After getting back to basics and tracking all of my food last week I had a stellar weight loss of 3lbs! That is huge for me! I had apple pie in the sky dreams of this extra weight coming off in record time if I trakced everything. It seemed to be almost a miracle cure.
But this morning the scale was a disappointment. 39 . I didn't lose.
But, on the bright side, I didn't gain either, and it was Labor Day Weekend too boot! 104 .

I could wallow... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 09:35:04 EST Getting Back to Goal /Tracking your Nutrition really works! After realizing how far removed I have been from staying accountable I decided to get back to basics. Back to basics for me was to go back to the main principles i learned while going to my WW meetings. The number one weight loss tool they recommend it to TRACK YOUR FOOD. Tracking my food on the first week I did WW resulted in a 5 lbs loss for me, but I was hungry the whole week and thought I was going to die! But I had great results and the lbs came off. I was diligent at first but track... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 11:01:45 EST Using the Scale as a Measurement of Maintenance NOT an OBSESSSION! So for the last year I have been in denial about my weight. I have been trying to use the tape measure as a measurement of my success because I usually let the scale define who I am but I really needed to find out what was going on with me. I was in such a slump for a few months.
I finally stepped on the scale. I didn't like what I saw but I am NOT going to let that define who I am. I am still going to use the tape measure. The scale just gives me an indicator of what I need to work o... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 10:25:56 EST Just a quick update Its been over a month since I blogged last. Where does the time go?
so quick update on my progress...
I am running about 3 x a week. Loving it and working on my speed. Now I need a plan for when the sun isn't out yet. I love running first thing in the morning but my hubby doesn't want to come and doesn't like me to go in the dark. Thinking pepper spray may do the trick. I have my little beagle, but if I take her the pug will want to go and he can't keep up.
I started Belly... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 13:29:02 EST Personal Discovery~ I am way out of shape! climbing out of my slump I tracked my food yesterday for the first time in a really long time. I did great until my husband said, lets go for yogurt. I still only had a very small amount, but I had just had a late night healthy snack( i felt like I needed to get in more fiber). Went over my calories, bleh!
I didn't exercise much yesterday. I had intended to go run but when I got up I was so sore I could hardly move so I decided it was a rest day. The day before I had done Bob Harper's Bootcamp Workout. I di... Sat, 9 Jun 2012 10:11:36 EST Creeping out of my Slump and a Goals Update. So I am writing an update on how things have been progressing since my last blog.
Work has slowed down enough so I am not as stressed and I have more time to focus. I am gearing up for all of our families summer activities.
My daughter is going to the Dominican Republic in a few weeks on a humanitarian trip. We almost have every thing done for that. Just wrapping up the last few details.
On the exercise front, I have been doing ok but am not at 100% where I would like to ... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 17:38:14 EST Pursuing Self-Accpetance/ Why Fat Talk is Self Sabotage I just read an article from Real Age which has really helped me out. It is called "How Fat Talk Makes you Fat".

-talk-is-bad-for-weight-loss?eid=10106
64934&memberid=11567809&cbr=SALE1200077
.
The article basically says its self sabotage. How true. It is also about self acceptance.
When I was in the weight loss mode of my weight loss journey, I had a lot of self acceptance and positive reinforcement. As I had ... Mon, 7 May 2012 12:45:53 EST The 2 yr Anniversary of my first 5K this Mother's Day weekend I have been running for about 2 years. I started running when I was 45 yrs old. I had read an article about someone who had started in their 40's and I figured if they could do it, so could I. I had just had major surgery and decided that I needed to do something that would help me sustain my weight loss. Sure enough, running is one of the best tools I have ever discovered to help with maintenance. Whenever I see the scale start to creep up, I kick up my heels and slowly see the weight star... Sat, 5 May 2012 10:17:18 EST Brain Chatter Hi Sparkbuddies, work has been crazy busy! It has been quite an auspicious year for me. I have taken on so much responsibility without a pay increase. I know its coming but the wait has been terrible! Bleh! Running is such a great stress relief. It sure beats drinking, lol! So I have really been trying hard to get in my runs and am back to doing ST. Woman's Health magazine online has a large assortment of workouts to choose from. Right now I am doing the Get Sexy Workout. Its a short ... Wed, 18 Apr 2012 21:15:06 EST Long overdue blog and some Spring Goals Someone pointed out to me about a week ago I was due for a blog. Its been a really long time. Life has just been so crazy busy at work and honestly, I sorta lost my spark for awhile. We have had a pretty mild winter here but it has been cloudy and gloomy for months. I suffer from SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorder) and my mood really feels it when the sun doesn't shine.
That and a back injury at the beginning of January derailed me for awhile. I did complete the entire regimen on Ripp... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 15:03:40 EST Found a workout routine and I am sticking to it for a month/ JM'S Ripped in 30 Last Sunday I was in Costco and they had fitness dvd's on sale fo $7.99. I decided I would get a new dvd. I already had JM's 30DS but I wanted to try something else. So I bought Ripped in 30. WTH? It is almost the same thing as the 30DS. I gave it a try anyway. It is 10 mns longer than 30DS It also has a few more moves and workouts. At first I was disappointed but after doing it for 4 days I have decided to give the whole thing my undivided attention for the next 4 weeks and see where I am. I... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 12:59:06 EST It's been awhile I haven't blogged in quite a while so here is a quick update.
I completed the Jamie Eason LiveFit challenge a few weeks ago. It was a great challenge and I am really glad I did it. I really love heavy lifting. I started back into phase 2 again but after two weeks my heart wasn't in it and I started to get bored. I have been working out still but I can't seem to find the same dedication and motivation I had with the LiveFit. Last week I took a breather and most of my exercise consisted ... Wed, 21 Dec 2011 12:30:38 EST Jamie Eason LiveFit Phase 3 update Hi Sparkfriends, I am almost done with week 2 in the LiveFit program. It is really difficult but in a good way. Very challenging. I have read a few fellow sparkers (FIT_WHIT) and STFRENCH who feel the same way.
As Jillian Michael's would say, "This is no joke.". The last two weeks have been a real test of my wherewithall and my ability as an athlete. Each workout is very strenuous. My heartrate is through the roof and I NEED to take those 2 min breaks in between supersets. I haven... Thu, 27 Oct 2011 14:19:51 EST
