ISAHLIA's SparkPeople Blog ISAHLIA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community It's a new year! My first day in the new year was really quiet. No more guests, or friends visiting, the kids were all zoned out playing on the computers- Me Too getting the challenge started. I also took down the tree, though I still have out door lights to put away today.
Today at the last minute I got a subbing job, I was really surprised because school had already started by the time I got the call.
On the remodel- Essentially the office and the living rooms are done. Next on my hit list is th... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 15:52:53 EST Ending the Year Stronger I have to say that I've been worried a little about the start of next year. Usually I am super excited for the fresh start that a New Year brings. I have gotten that back but let me tell you why I was a little worried.

Back in October 2012, I took on the commitment to help run the Quarterly Challenge. Before that Angie was the only active leader on the team. So I volunteered to help. I took on the Quarterly Challenge. I knew it was going to be a lot of work but I didn't anticipate... Fri, 21 Dec 2012 09:34:39 EST Surprise! I had a pleasant surprise today. I had three of the men from my church over to help me with some of my kitchen remodel projects. But wait I'm getting ahead of myself here. They originally just came over to help get some pipes insulated, but they said while they were here they would help me get my dishwasher hooked up fix my counter so that it was flush to the wall and attach all of it, fix the faucet so that the hot and cold are on the correct sides, and hang a cabinet and recess some drawer... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 23:20:07 EST House is Lookin' Good On the inside my house is starting to look good. Today I'm putting up yet another shelving unit. and cleaning my room. Maybe hanging some curtains.

Yesterday I got my heating system installed. SO excited about it. The heaters are working very well and I am sure it will result in a happier family this winter. I have installed a total of 3 book cases in the office and it wasn't enough, so up goes #4 today. So excited to see the office and the living room almost done. In the living ... Thu, 18 Oct 2012 08:17:32 EST More house work I have been doing more bits and pieces on my house. I've got a 3rd bookcase up and I'm really glad too. I expect I'll get it all filled up pretty quick. I'm also adding propane to the house for the winter. I've gotta get the place spruced up for the installation. Right now we've got blankets piled high, and are ready for the new heating system. It's harder to get work done while I'm working. I can only get so much done after school. Well that's the update. Tue, 9 Oct 2012 22:52:36 EST My update I thought I'd give you guys an update of all the stuff that's going on. First of all I a have to say I've been keeping busy work wise. Last week in particular I worked every day as a sub. Those kindergarteners are so fun, but I was so tired by the end of the day. I was actually getting to bed by 9:30pm. I've also finished painting the office, and I've installed 2 bookshelves- but they aren't enough. I will have to put up a couple more. The good thing about finishing the office means that I ca... Mon, 1 Oct 2012 00:24:07 EST Energy?? SO, I've started the school year again with substitute teaching. I am loving that btw! However I am dead tired by the time I get home. How do you guys get past that so that you still do your workouts and such. I've not been doing my best. Tue, 18 Sep 2012 22:02:30 EST I've decided I'm a little crazy I am super excited to be working with Angie and Marie on the 100 lbs in 1 year team. I'll be helping with the Quarterly Challenges on that team. I am so excited, I've already been planning for the next Challenge which starts on October 1st. I'm hoping to make it exciting and engaging, a place where people really want to participate and to stick with it. Because as everyone knows it's hard to keep the momentum up.

I know that to do this right it's gonna require a bit of time from m... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 16:31:53 EST Hanging Curtains AKA Curtain Gymnastics On Monday I decided it was time to hang the new curtain in my daughters room. Being a typical teenager her room is a disaster. Well, I'm not sure if that is really typical or not but in my house it is typical for her room to be a disaster 364 days a year. It really only gets clean on Christmas Eve. I thought okay I'll use her desk chair as a ladder and then I'll be able to screw in the curtain rod supports. Well, the chair was too low. So I thought about getting the really big heavy ladder an... Wed, 22 Aug 2012 08:22:31 EST The Reunion The Reunion... The Carr Reunion is the longest continuously running reunion in the state of KY. They've been holding it for 115 years straight now. The people there were my extended family from my Mom's side. I thought it was sad though that there aren't many actual Carr's left. Rather daughters have married and like me their children no longer bare the Carr surname. It was great to hear a couple of stories about my Great Grandpa & Great Grandma as well as my grandma. I had a good time and lo... Mon, 13 Aug 2012 20:33:03 EST Knees One of the things I've really been enjoying as I continue on this journey is watching the visible changes that have been occurring in my body. One of those places of change has been in my knees. I tend to carry a lot of my weight in my thighs and you could really see it around my knees, I wish I'd taken measurements of my knees before because they've slimmed down. I'm really looking forward to being more comfortable in my own skin. Wed, 8 Aug 2012 08:49:13 EST Day Dreaming One of the things I like to do is to day dream often this will include looking at possible vacation spots and activities that would take me away from my life of toil. I was looking on Walt Disney's Nose to Tail Horse rides at the Ft Wilderness campground and I realized that I am under the weight limit of 250 to go horse back riding. I could do that activity! (Though it would actually be more fun here in KY and probably less $$ Too) It makes my day dreams taste a little sweeter knowing that I ... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 23:30:30 EST So Much to do Have you ever had so much to do that you hardly no where to begin, then you don't even want to deal with it anymore. I'm like that with my house right now. I know that I am supposed to be doing baby steps with it but uhg. All of the prep work then the actual work then the clean up then organizing.... It goes on and on... It's embarrassing too to have the house in this current state. Well there is really only one way to fix it and that is to just do it, keep going, get as much done as I can. E... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 01:01:53 EST Re Charging the batteries, how do you do it? One of my SP friends mentioned that they needed to re-charge their batteries. It got me thinking, what do I do to re-charge my batteries. Then I realized that I didn't really like any of my answers, So this blog is more like a survey, I would love to see what works for you guys. Tell me how you re-charge your batteries? Wed, 1 Aug 2012 15:40:04 EST Genealogy- okay warning I get nerdy in this post One of my favorite hobbies is genealogy. I love finding out about my family. I also enjoy watching "who do you think you are" on NBC. I had stopped doing it this last year because I was so busy and genealogy research can take a lot of time. But one of the really cool things about where I live is that I am with in driving distance to some of the counties and states where my ancestors lived. In fact I just need to go to a neighboring county and I can go through their archives and try to find my... Mon, 30 Jul 2012 01:40:09 EST Another 50 question Blog STOLEN FROM ANOTHER SPARKER :)
1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
No, but I don't have a middle name per family tradition.
2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Sunday, I usually have an abundance of emotion at church.
3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Sometimes, it's plain and easy to read.
4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Turkey or Roast Beef.
5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Yes two teenage girls.
6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS ... Sat, 28 Jul 2012 00:25:12 EST Balance Hey guys,
I'm sorry I was gone for so long. I wish I could give you a "good" reason for my absence but I can't. I was just really feeling overwhelmed and out of balance. Maybe you guys have felt that way too. I thought I'd better take a little time and try to get centered again.
I really don't want to give this (SP) up because this (SP) is a chance to get me healthier. So I'm at it again, knowing you guys were here waiting to hear from me is such support for me. Your examples, your... Wed, 25 Jul 2012 18:56:59 EST Kentucky? Why Kentucky? This is a question that I hear a lot. I'm originally from California. I've lived in Florida, Utah, and Tennessee as well. After my divorce I went back to California to live with my Mom (My Dad died when I was 18). I'm skipping a lot of stuff that isn't really relevant to this particular story. I have three younger brothers. When I first moved home my youngest brother was still in high school living with my mom. My middle brother was just back from a church mission and working on an AA (and li... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 20:01:09 EST The Stress of being a parent So Sorry I wasn't on SP Thursday and Friday. I was taking my daughters to youth camp and I realized once I got them safely checked in that my stress had disappeared. I guess it was more anxiety than stress but I was feeling it in my shoulders and back where I usually carry stress. It's back again today and tonight but I am picking up the girls at lunch and so I'm sure I'll be back to normal once I see the kiddo's safe and sound. Thanks for all of the relaxation tips that you guys gave me. I s... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 00:24:30 EST Stuffed Bell Peppers I had never had stuffed bell peppers before. I made some today and they were great! My daughter wanted 2 (Red and Orange bell Peppers) She loves the color Red so seeing the red bell pepper she was excited. I got the recipe from allrecipes, and chose one without meat that met my calorie requirements, but YUM! It's a keeper. Love it when my family is excited to try something new, and to eat dinner!

Here's a link to the recipe

s-my-... Wed, 11 Jul 2012 19:37:11 EST My Menu Plan I had told you guys that I was trying to make a menu plan for a month so I'd only have to go to the store monthly, for me that seems to work pretty good. So my daughters and I came up with our plan and I thought I'd share with you what we came up with.
M-Mexican = Taco's, Nachos, Burritos, Fajitas
T-Italian = Lasagna, Chicken Alfredo, Spaghetti, Parmesan Chicken
W-Veggie = Stuffed Peppers, Pasta Salad, Chef Salad, Pasta Salad II
T-Chinese = Mongolian Beef... Tue, 10 Jul 2012 15:13:04 EST Lightening Strike! Yesterday we had an electrical storm right by my house. In fact I saw it strike in front of my house and it also hit the pole next to my house and killed the phone\internet and fried a circuit breaker. Sorry I didn't get to finish checking on everyone! The great news is the phone is back on today, and the temperature is sooo much better 87* is awesome... I'm on my porch right now and watching the last of the pink disappear into a purple sky. It's almost all gone now. The fireflies are out bu... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 21:49:57 EST Time for new favorites It's kinda cool when you notice your clothes aren't fitting as well anymore, that you don't fill them in like you used to. I'm gonna need to get a new favorite shirt. I was constantly tugging at my old favorite today to get it to lay flat. It used to fit me really well and so bubbles in spots where there is now extra fabric. Maybe I'll try the shirt hanging in my closet that was too tight before. I wonder if I still have "those jeans" that I really liked before I got fat. I know I can't wear ... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 17:38:56 EST One month- Reality Check I realized yesterday that I've been active on spark people for 1 month. I'm not sure what I was expecting my 1st month to be like. But I've looked at the calendar and sure enough that's how long it's been.

I've done pretty good one making some changes, and messed up. But I keep going. I thought I'd take a good look though at what I think I could have done better.

1)Food- this is a mixed bag, I've done good and bad. I'm trying to do better by creating a good menu plan t... Sat, 7 Jul 2012 01:01:20 EST The Danger in Waiting It breaks my heart to see members new and old with little to no interaction happening on their pages.

I remember the first time I started spark people I came on once, posted once and disappeared from the site. I thought if someone connects with me then I might continue this. I am a shy person and I like to hide away from the world. I thought I'll let others find me and then they can help me. Then it will be easier like they are a magic pill that will transform this weight loss jou... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 00:59:22 EST Rain! Wind and Lightening... It has been raining about an hour now. I'm really glad we needed it. The temp has dropped to 68* outside (what a relief). The Wind however has blown down 2 trees on our street. The power company is out in force, and a lightening strike has started a fire on the hill across the street. Still the rain has picked up again so I'm hopeful it won't spread and will go out soon. I'm thinking I'll do stairs today for cardio and thank heaven for my blessings. Thu, 5 Jul 2012 16:17:47 EST My 4th was a Bust? I don't know what the temps were today but I decided not to go on my evening walk. In fact I was low on calories but high on fat, and not active hardly at all. I did get to see a lot of my neighbors putting on a fireworks shows. I half didn't expect anyone to do them this year cause of how dry and hot everything is, but at least 5 different neighbors lit up the sky last night. It's still hot, I told my friend Jamie though that today I'm gonna do my cardio for her! Thu, 5 Jul 2012 02:04:40 EST Garden Stuff I was surprised by my neighbor yesterday evening. My neighbor brought me 3 wal mart bags of produce from their garden, they were afraid the heat was going to destroy it and thought I might be able to use it. YES!! Oh I love fresh garden stuff there were cucumbers, bell peppers, onion (lots of onions) both white and yellow, and 2 small cabbage heads. I'm gonna have to make something special. On the flip side the wild blackberries should be ready to pick and my brother has tons of them on his p... Wed, 4 Jul 2012 00:48:05 EST Back Boobs I hate my back boobs I'm sure I'm not alone in this so I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I pinched the fat back there and wow it's noticeably smaller. It may have gone down as much as a cup size if I measured it that way before. My spare tire(just below my waist) and inner tube (just above my waist) both have pleasant slow leaks and are deflating. Even my daughter poked my back and said yep it's getting smaller. I know I probably shouldn't label parts of my body like that but I do.... Tue, 3 Jul 2012 13:49:19 EST Reading One of the things that I love to do is to read. What makes that even better is when I can still read to my 13 & 15 olds. Right now we are reading a sci fi book by Patricia Briggs. Normally I would say that is an adult book but because I'm reading it I can substitute words or even skip paragraphs if it's not appropriate. She is actually not too bad as far as inappropriate content. And we all enjoy the coyote walker, werewolves, fae, and vampires. Family time, pretty cool stuff. Mon, 2 Jul 2012 19:14:28 EST Thunder This morning when I woke up there were clouds but they cleared away and it got really hot again. Until about 10pm Lots of electrical activity and thunder. My dog is off hiding. I noticed that the temps are going to be going down this week but there is supposed to be electrical storms all this next week. So I'll be looking at video's instead of my usual walks I think. Sun, 1 Jul 2012 23:01:21 EST Menu Planning I have decided that when menu planning it is easier to come up with a general plan than it is to come up with a more specific plan. I've been using for menu planning because 1) I already had a "subscription" to use their menu planner. 2) they list the nutrition for most recipes. 3) allows me to change the servings. 4) creates a shopping list. Plus they have been including recipes from the kitchens of name brands like Campbells. So After laboring I don't know how long in finding... Sat, 30 Jun 2012 20:10:19 EST Cranky I have decided that it is true, when I don't get enough food or water or when the temperature is too hot that I get CRANKY! and yell when I shouldn't so it's an incentive to do better- because who wants to yell at their family. I better apologize. Sat, 30 Jun 2012 17:51:55 EST The Plan Well Last night the kiddos and I sat down and came up with a basic dinner plan for the next month (I shop just once a month 'cause the nearest grocery store is at least 35 mins away)(Saves on Gas). I've been watching the Food Nanny on BYU and so borrowed the idea of theme nights. So we've got Monday- Mexican, Tuesday- Italian, Wednesday, Veggie/Seafood, Thursday- Chinese, Friday -Comfort Foods, Saturday- American / Grill, Sunday- Crock pot Dishes.
Anyway now I just need to figure ... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 13:25:01 EST LAZY DAY I'm having a lazy day, well at least till the temperature drops (hopefully by 8pm) Then I will work out and do my strength exercises and cardio. I've been bad about food today, nothing sound appetizing so I haven't eaten hardly anything and it's almost dinner time so much for having an even day. I need to plan better which is what I've been telling everyone so tonight I'm gonna sit down with the kiddos and make a plan. I'll let you know what we come up with tomorrow. Thu, 28 Jun 2012 16:10:04 EST Dry It has been very dry this summer. I know others of you are experiencing similar things. Kentucky usually has enough rain though that we typically don't need to water the gardens, and this summer people will have to. I think it's been about a month since our last rain.

I'm on target today, I've been drinking my water and I expect I'll be using the johnette all day. I need to finish some trim work today and putting together some bookcases (including painting the back panel). I might ... Wed, 27 Jun 2012 12:40:16 EST Procrastination I didn't do so hot this last weekend, I didn't get my exercise in that I should have, and yesterday I was pushing the top of my calories, but low on carbs and protein that means high on fat. So I kinda feel like I was stalling. I'm not sure why I allowed that to happen. I think it's because I'm afraid of the other things going on in my life. I'm on a REALLY tight budget and afraid to even pay my bills and haven't yet. Maybe if I just get all of the stuff I've been procrastinating done it will... Tue, 26 Jun 2012 13:04:54 EST Quiet Today has been an interesting day for me. I told my kids that they have to clean the barn 9 to 5 today. (they can come in to get water, bathroom breaks, lunch, ect...) So it's work. They have been increasingly rude to each other (yelling, names, and even throwing things). So in the spirit of getting them to appreciate each other more they have to work together to clean out the barn. I expect this to take a whole month. I expect them to be tired at the end of the day, and I hope that they will... Mon, 25 Jun 2012 11:55:58 EST My daughter is back from Camp! My daughter is back from camp. She had a great time. I was however really bad today and we got taco bell on the way home, I haven't logged it yet so I'm not sure exactly how bad I was but I feel like I caved. I got one of the meals- I couldn't eat the whole "meal" so I saved probably close to half for lunch later. And I had a Huge (they call it a large) Soda. Good thing it was mostly ice. So I guess I better face the music, and start tracking. Oh all the extra walking and stuff I'll need to d... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 15:24:00 EST Blah I think today is one of those days that you just want to say blah to. I need to get my calories up, I can literally feel the lack of energy because I haven't been giving myself enough energy, and I need to lower the fat and add more fruits and veggies. It's amazing how many veggies you can eat and still have to find more calories. I can't imagine trying to live on just veggies. I think about my neighbors cows and how they are grazing all day, and no wonder it's hard to get calories from veggi... Fri, 22 Jun 2012 11:52:35 EST My evening walk View of my neighborhood from the top of the neighbors hill. Sorry I couldn't get it to rotate... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 21:44:29 EST My walks I told my daughter she could help me choose my page colors today. So she did. I decided that the calorie tracker probably isn't accurate for my walk. I wanted to check the elevations from my walk, because those hills really add some extra umph. Well the lowest elevation was 1345 and the highest elevation was 1500 then I go back down to 1428 and back up to 1445. If I can get the computer to actually upload anything I'll try to upload the video from the top of the hill. Then you guys can see a ... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 21:09:31 EST Camp time So I took my daughter to camp today, it looks like she is gonna have a great time. Today I weighed myself and I did lose about 3.5 lbs! Woo Hoo! I also lost some inches so the changes I was seeing really were changes and not just my imagination! So I'm pretty happy about all of that. Wed, 20 Jun 2012 13:15:03 EST Exercise and Injuries So apparently I haven't been stretching my calf well enough (time to break out the ballet workout video-It has the best stretches) Any way last night I was trying to figure out a way to get the cardio I wanted without really using my leg. On SP there is an 11 min seated cardio workout. So I just did that 3 times to get the amount of time I wanted. It was great because I was able to use my good leg and arms and lightly use my bad leg. Just what I needed. I think I'm gonna use it again till my ... Tue, 19 Jun 2012 12:29:16 EST Small Changes I've been really noticing a lot of small changes. I've noticed that my huge double chin has "shrunk." And I have been noticing small changes in my waist and thighs. My arms aren't as "jiggly," I don't know what that will mean in weight loss, but seeing these small changes really makes me want to keep going. I weigh in on Wednesday and I hope on that day I'll remember how I'm feeling today.

On the downside, I've injured my alkalies tendon and will need to modify some of my exercise... Mon, 18 Jun 2012 12:03:27 EST Lunches In another post I had expressed some concern I have concerning the school year and eating away from home. Thanks for the lunch advice BeingARollModel. I am a substitute teacher for the county here. I love the variety of students and lessons, that I don't have to really plan anything (except as a back up emergency) But last year I often didn't eat breakfast and would just get a lunch in the cafeteria with the kids. I think if I am diligent in packing a breakfast, snack, and lunch every night, ... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 19:05:46 EST TV I don't actually own a tv. This has been interesting for me. It means that IF there is something that sounds interesting to me I have to wait till it comes online or comes on DVD. Usually I like to solve logic problems online for fun or do a little sudoku but sometimes I like to watch an actual show. Today I watched Extreme Makeover: Weight loss edition on ABC. It is hard to believe the amazing transformations that they go through. I know my journey will be slower than theirs (They were losin... Sun, 17 Jun 2012 01:03:48 EST Hey I think this stuffs working! So this morning started out just like any other until I realized that hey there is like 2 inches extra on the waist of these pants I'm wearing 9 . Last week they were snug! So I know something is working. I had decided last night that I wanted to add more cardio days to my schedule.

And I'm definitely getting much better with my food, though I'm a little nervous about when the school year starts again. Making the transition from being home for all of my meals to not bei... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 10:50:39 EST Bring it On One of my most favorite things in life is watching the sunset and sunrise! To me they are a beautiful symbol of the end and beginning. Well yesterday is gone and today is here, I say bring it on! Today is going to be great! Thu, 14 Jun 2012 10:35:12 EST First Weigh in The good news is I haven't gained any weight and I think my pants are fitting better. I have to admit I was disappointed that I didn't see movement on the scale. I will be adding measurements to my reporting. I did take measurements last January so I can see if I've changed since then. I was going to take a photo but one of my munchkins dropped and broke it. So in general I'm just not having much of a good day. I know it will get better, and I can take a picture with my phone, I'm just disapp... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 11:48:17 EST
