I've lost 7 pounds in 5 weeks using the Happy Herbivore meal plans. Plant based, whole foods. That's fast loss for me!

I'm tracking on Lose It and using the cognitive techniques from the book, "Beck Diet Solution". That book is a big help.

I feel very satisfied on the plant based, whole foods meal plan. It satisfies. Volume really does make a difference. I'm losing weight and actually enjoying it.

Two things:

I subscribed to the vegan meal plan from Happy Herbivore. It's a no added oil plan using whole foods, no packaged stuff. Home cooking.

The result is that I get a lot more filling foods and I feel satiated. That makes a huge difference!

The plan includes weekly breakfast, lunch and dinner menus with a shopping list. That is key for me. I like already having a plan written out, with the s... Sun, 14 Jun 2015 10:46:05 EST Beck Diet Solution. Exercise Report. This week I started working with the Beck Diet Solution book, a cognitive behavioral plan that works with any nutrition plan. It targets your thinking. It's a six week plan. I think I will enjoy it, because I like journaling.

Exercise report:

I'm enjoying walking and yoga very much! I feel much better the past two weeks, and I'm sleeping GREAT. A big change. Energy levels are higher and mood is happier. Especially with the hot weather, walking is my choice (as opposed t... Sun, 10 May 2015 11:36:11 EST Travel as Motivation I usually use an upcoming trip to motivate me to be diligent about tracking food so I can lose weight. I did really well this winter, lost 10 lbs before my trip to London/Paris.

Today I found out that the continuing ed conference my husband usually attends will be in Cancun this year. We will likely go.

I stuck the numbers in to the goal calculator here on SparkPeople and found out I have the exact right number of weeks to lose 28 lbs and be at my goal weight by the tr... Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:02:56 EST Art Journaling. Surgery. Europe. Yesterday I started journaling with the prompts from Lisa Shea's ebook, "Journaling Prompts - Weight Loss". Thu, 16 Apr 2015 11:05:45 EST 5 pounds in January I took off five pounds in January using the Lose It app.

Still working on it. I've finally recovered from the flu and saw a new doctor about my chronic cough. Have gotten relief with a steroid inhaler, and yesterday the doctor switched me to a combo steriod/bronchodilator inhaler. Feeling very hopeful.

My husband and I are going to London and Paris in the Spring and that is motivating us. We like to be active on vacation and that is easier to do without extra pounds. Wed, 4 Feb 2015 09:42:42 EST Found all those pounds Gained back everything from when I started WW many years ago. Plus 2.

Just going to keep on, keepin' on, battling it.

Didn't get to do my Thanksgiving race due to having the flu for 3 weeks. Having takeout while I was sick and then the holidays did not help.

Went ahead and weighed in today to get perspective.

Not to be disheartened! Yesterday I did circuit training with burpees. I'm amazed I can do burpees at my heaviest. But I can.

I'... Sat, 3 Jan 2015 11:27:47 EST Found a Race! Woot! Signed up for a Thanksgiving morning 8K in my town. Husband is going to do it with me. It's only the second year for this race. Previously, the Turkey Trot in our area was a week before Thanksgiving, which was really handy for me because we always traveled on Thanksgiving.

This year will be the first year we stay home. My brother and his family moved into our parents' duplex in Louisiana. We go there for Christmas anyway so we don't want to drive that far for Thanksgiving too... Wed, 22 Oct 2014 10:41:01 EST I Have Gained! Yup. Very close to the weight I was when I started Weight Watchers oh those many years ago.

I can't decide whether to be dismayed by my scale number or impressed by how well I can run at this weight. I am impressed. But I want the weight off.

Back to tracking! It's the only thing that works for me.

First order of business. I see that earlier this year I put "Do a holiday race" as one of my goals this year. I'm bummed because the Turkey Trot that used to happen... Tue, 21 Oct 2014 10:11:03 EST Tuesday, May 6th Turned off my electronics last night 9 hours before my wake up time. My husband remarked how I woke up with a smile! Getting more sleep is helping.

Today I walked 3.11 miles outside on hills and did 30 minutes yoga.

The walk was wonderful. Aromas of magnolia, roses and honeysuckle. Many other flowers blooming, too. Especially iris.

And I found a quarter. 20

Tue, 6 May 2014 14:30:43 EST Cinco de Mayo I met my goal last night of turning off electronics 9 hours before my wake up time and doing my bedtime routine. FitBit says I slept for 7:35 hours. I did feel better when I woke up this morning (with no alarm!).

Also met my goal yesterday of tracking everything.

It's supposed to get to 89 degrees today, so I won't be continuing my previous plan of doing chores in the morning and exercising in the afternoon to offset my afternoon sleepiness. Too hot to exercise walk in... Mon, 5 May 2014 09:50:31 EST Week In Review Successes and misses this week!

Let's start with misses.

Goal: Fruit 7 days. Close one. Ate fruit 6 days.
Goal: Track EVERYTHING 7 days. I tracked everything 4 days. I did track all days, but 3 days I didn't track it all.

Successes:

Goal: Blog/journal 7 days. Sun, 4 May 2014 11:30:32 EST You Play, You Pay Whew! I had a wonderful time Thursday night going out with my hubby to dinner, to see a movie, and then a music show that we happened to hear while walking back to the car.

But I paid for it yesterday!

The reason people my age don't go out partying much is because we are slower to recover. Ha.

Felt like a SLUG yesterday. At least I didn't get a migraine.

I decided if I was going to sit here feeling miserable from a hangover, I could go outside and... Sat, 3 May 2014 11:50:15 EST Missed Some Goals Yesterday Last night my husband and I planned to go see a movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. It was excellent.

He invited me to dinner beforehand, and I went. And didn't track! And went over calories for sure.

Plus I forgot to eat a fruit.

:)

I had a wonderful time but I'll miss out on some of the rewards I had set up this week for those two things.

After the movie, we were walking to the car downtown and we heard some music. We went towards it and... Fri, 2 May 2014 12:38:44 EST I Really Like This Book I'm not into the quick fix ads and magazine articles about "bikini bootcamp". It's all over the place.

But I do like this certain book, despite it's advertising claim. "Bikini Bootcamp: Two Weeks to the Ultimate Beach Body" by Melissa Perlman and Erica Gragg.

There's good stuff between the covers! Journaling exercises, meditation, yoga, a calisthenics circuit workout plan and walking. Plus really delicious recipes that fit my tastes to a T.

So I'm going back ... Thu, 1 May 2014 10:44:57 EST Yesterday I Was Angry Yesterday I was angry. My husband's leg was broken in 9 places last year in a martial arts clinic. It took 7 months before he could walk again.

During that time, NONE of his instructors asked him about what happened, or offered any help. He was in the hospital for 3 nights and they only came right when he got wheeled out of sugery and was still drugged. When they saw him, they told him a version of events that did not happen.

They didn't see what happened themselves. And... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 10:24:19 EST Energy Plan I'm working with the book, "100 Days of Weight Loss" by Linda Spangle.

I went back to an earlier blog I wrote while I was making progress. Glad I did! I had figured out then that a good antidote to my usual afternoon bout of sleepiness is to reverse the order that I do things. My natural inclination is to exercise in the morning and do chores in the afternoon. I do like to get the exercise out of the way and have it done.

But I was soooo sleepy in the afternoon!
<B... Tue, 29 Apr 2014 10:06:59 EST New Book I'm Reading "The Elemental Cleanse" by Pamela Quinn. It's only 99 cents on Kindle today.

I just started reading it today. I believe it's about getting your entire life in balance, not "cleanse" as in juice fasting or that stuff. It looks like it's about healthy eating, moving and meditation based on Ayruveda. It does recommend vegetarian meals.
Mon, 28 Apr 2014 14:35:30 EST Back To It My weigh in after being in Hawaii for two weeks and then being sick and laid flat out for two weeks is not good. Plus there was an Easter visit from my parents and I wasn't tracking then, either.

Back to it! :)

The bummer is that I saw a number I haven't seen in YEARS. I can't tell you when.

The good part is that as I was doing pushups this week, I did them way better than I expected after having been on vacation and being sick for a full two weeks.
<BR... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 10:34:08 EST I'm Fine Just The Way I Am Someone was visiting me this week. This person regained a little weight recently and evidently is focused on everyone else's weight too. All my life, this person has been critical of people with extra weight.

It looked to me like she was observing and monitoring how much and what my husband and I were eating.

The TV had a golf game on and she was criticizing the women players who have extra weight. She said their golf game would be better if they lost weight. Um...they'... Tue, 22 Apr 2014 10:43:25 EST Mission 46: Happy List An aside comment to start: Bathing suit season is almost here. It's even closer for me because I'm going to Hawaii! I found a swim skort that is the best piece of swim wear I've ever owned. It has plenty of coverage but isn't dorky. The fabric is very light and will dry fast, but doesn't show any lumps/bumps. I also got a convertible swim top that is a tank top, with a detachable long sleeve shrug that provides sun coverage.

Here's the link to the skort. It is pricey, but to me it ... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 10:51:43 EST Making a Lifestyle, not a Deadline Lately I have been switching my focus from a deadline of weight loss to a lifestyle of sustainable habits.

For now, that includes a daily walk instead of a run. For one, I still have nagging injuries from winter running and last year's martial arts.

For two, walking is just more pleasant. I'm sure I'll be running again this winter to train for my winter races, but until then, it's a daily walk.

During the summer I never run anyway. It's too hot here. But I kn... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 22:55:51 EST I had a great weekend! Friday I turned off all my electronic devices and hid them from sight for 24 hours. It was great! I was amazed at how much more relaxed I was. And how much I then noticed how everyone had their nose in a device. Including my husband, who refused to participate in the "Technology Shabbat".

We had a wonderful weekend together, though.

Lots of conversation. We went to dinner Friday night then came home and sat in front of a fire with the two cats. I read a paper book. He w... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 10:36:41 EST Technology Shabbat Last night I stopped looking at the computer 2 hours before bedtime, and I stopped looking at my Kindle one hour before bedtime. I switched to a paper book. I wound up falling asleep an hour earlier than usual and slept 8.5 hours! I needed it.

Then today I saw someone posting about the National Day of Unplugging, where you turn off all computers, ipads, tablets, no texting, everything, from Friday at dusk until Saturday at dusk.

I Googled it (oh the irony!) and found thi... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 17:23:33 EST What's NOT Working I'm working with the books "52 Weight Loss Missions" by Michele Connolly and "100 Days of Weight Loss" by Linda Spangle.

Gah! I did the same thing two nights in a row! Even though I knew I was going to blog here about it.

Went over my calories late at night.

I've been thinking about this, and here's what I think contributes to it:

1. being tired
2. evening cocktail lowering my inhibitions

One of the nights I kept eating, even though... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 17:31:00 EST What's Working I was going to blog about an overeating situation I had late last night. But then I started thinking about all the things that are working for me and I wanted to write about those first. This blog got so long, I figured I better separate them into two. So I'll be back later today to blog about my overeating freakout last night, because I'm working on solutions!

I'm working with the books "52 Weight Loss Missions" by Michele Connolly and "Bikini Bootcamp" by Melissa Perlman and Eric... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 09:56:01 EST Powerlessness & Emotional Eating Yesterday I was in a situation where someone had power over me and something that I wanted to happen. This person gave me a hard time and appeared to enjoy doing it.

After I left the encounter, I went to a restaurant with my husband. I eyed the dessert case and seriously thought about getting a piece of cheesecake, but I knew that would be emotional eating and I decided against it. I did eat more lunch than I needed, though, cleaned my plate.

Later that night, when we fi... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 15:33:04 EST Short Blog Today Short blog today, in a hurry!

Weather is nasty outside, so I'm doing my daily walk inside, with Walk Away The Pounds.

Good news, hubby was cleared today by his orthopedic surgeon to finally get out of the boot (broken leg). No running, jumping or twisting for a month, though. So no martial arts class for him, yet. Which is good, because I know he would overdo it.

Last night we had fun cooking dinner together, Hawaiian style foods. Looking forward to our trip... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 10:49:06 EST Ideals vs. What Works I've been trying to walk 30 minutes, 6 days a week outside, plus do 30 min circuit training DVD 5 times a week.

That is not working because the circuit training DVDs are so intense.

Going to scale back doing the DVDs a minimum of 3 times a week. Hopefully more. Keep the walking to 6 days week. Sometimes I walk an hour (like today).

Also, my energy has been flagging after lunch. I had been doing my exercise in the morning, and it is intense. Then after lunch I... As in, no exercise plus a nap!

Did go to the OBGYN for an annual. Bloodwork, the mammo, the works. No copay with my new insurance plan, and the plan is cheaper than last year. Cheaper and better.

Wasn't thinking, and went over calories due to eating like I usually do on a day when I am exercising. OH WELL. Tue, 25 Feb 2014 20:10:14 EST Blogging Instead of Food Surfing! Ha! I'm going to blog here about my upcoming trip instead of surfing for restaurants there. Most of the changes recommended, you have alre... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 11:11:28 EST Exercise program I'm LOVING! Purely by chance, I found an exercise dvd at a used bookstore recently and I LOVE IT.

It's Shape's Bikini Body Camp "Transforming" workout dvd. I lucked out because the one I found is the special Target edition, it has a bonus audio CD of workout music. The music is all the same tempo and flows seamlessly one song to another.

Even though it has a cover that is totally unrealistic for many of us, the workouts are GREAT. Yes, WORKOUTS.
