I'm down 6.5 pounds and have already hit a plateau. I love when this happens (said no one ever). I was irrationally angry and depressed on weigh-in day because I gained 1 lb. I wanted to give up there and then. I wanted to eat bagels smothered in cream cheese. How, how, how?! But I know how. It just happens sometimes. Weight fluctuates up and down. No matter if you weigh yourself a... Thu, 2 Feb 2017 10:43:16 EST Starting Over http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6295344 January 6, 2017 marked 8 years since I joined Sparkpeople. I've had great success and great failure during these years. I've lost loved ones, survived job turmoil, cried a lot and laughed a lot. I ran a 5K. I did my first full, unassisted pull-up! I did burpees like they were nothing. I threw my back out. I ripped my deltoid muscle. I lost 30 pounds, gained 10, lost 5, gained 20, lost 10, gained 30. *sigh* As you can see there has been a lot of back and forth. I try being philoso... Here it goes:

6. Perseverance and Patience. Rome wasn't built in a day. You won't get the body you want in a week. You won't get the body you want in a month or even in a year. Job uncertainty, family issues, sickness and death have been all around me and the stress has been taking its toll. I've been eating way too much and drinking more than usual, taking in too many empty, useless calories. I've been feeling more like that chubby, tired woman who joined Sparkpeople back in 2009 and less like my idol SheRa. I recently committed (for like the gazillionth time) to eating less and to eating better and although its only been 2 we... I am hungry, sore and exhausted. Other than that the program has flown by!! I can't believe how quickly time has gone by. I did has some problems following the diet around weeks 5 and 6. It was my birthday followed by my son's birthday so there was some celebrating going on and I have to have me some cake. But I didn't stop there so I'm not where I was planning to be a this time. I lost 8 pounds during the first 4 weeks by eating well and doing strength training. No cardio for 4 weeks! It was surprising to see that much of a loss. My other two rotations with LiveFit had me gaining weight during the first 4 weeks, so I'm happier this go around.

Phase 2 starts today. Not because of the work involved, but because I've worked with this woman for over 10 years and we have a very good relationship. Back when I interviewed for this job she was one of the people who interviewed me! Also, she had the opportunity to manage me a few years back and refused. Then October became the month my Dad died. I tried to get back the love, but the depression comes back just like it did two years ago when it all fell apart. This year was even worse. My stepson went for his annual physical and the doctor found a lump in his testicle. He's only 18 for Pete's sake!! We've been running around to doctor to doctor for weeks now. My addiction to food has taken me half a lifetime to admit. I've eaten food off the floor, off the street and out of the garbage can. I've eaten whole large pizzas with a side order pound bag of M&Ms. I've sneaked food from friends' pantries. I've walked 4 miles to purchase a Whoopie Pie (hey, cardio!), only to eat it all in about 2 minutes along with two cups of milk while my hands shook and sweat beaded on my forehead. I've ea... Fri, 4 Oct 2013 09:54:11 EST Inadequacies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5495676 I had dinner last night with an Aunt and Uncle I see maybe once every 5 years if at all. They live far away and don't often visit. They have a pretty close to perfect family, with 5 beautiful grown children and about a dozen equally beautiful grandchildren. I've always felt like the ugly duckling of the family. My cousins were always slim, gorgeous and athletic. I was fat, awkward and sedentary. While I realize I've changed over the years and found my inner athlete, the awkward child ... Wed, 25 Sep 2013 09:09:34 EST Schedule Change http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5487326 I decided to change things up a bit this week. I usually workout at 6am before work, but the gym is so full of boys hanging all over the equipment and staring at the TVs that I'm often late for work. I thought I'd try going to the gym after work to see how that goes. I got to work early today and I'm leaving early so I can hit the gym before the after work crowd comes in. So far, I'm missing my morning workout. I'm so distracted with thoughts of hitting the gym this afternoon that I can'... Mon, 16 Sep 2013 14:08:26 EST I never failed once. Every day that doesn't come out the way you want it to doesn't mean you're a failure. Ok, so you're disappointed that you didn't get that workout in or you ate cookies when you swore you wouldn't, does that mean you're a failure? Of course not!! Well, I'm a size 4 again. How did I do it? Well I gained 10 lbs from the last time I was a size 4, but these pounds are all muscle or the fat has shifted or something. Not quite sure what happened, but there you have it. I've been following this fantastic workout from Bodybuilding.com and Kris Gethin. It's Kris' 12 week trainer and it's just a great workout. Vacation to the Rescue! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5394992 I've been taking a vacation not only from my life but from logging my food and my exercise on Sparkpeople. I keep a separate workout journal so I'm still keeping track of my workouts but the food journal was just burning me out and making me unhappy. I'm so tired of tracking everything that goes into my mouth even though it really does help with the weight loss. My goals these days have less to do with losing weight (although to lose 5 lbs would be nice) and more with keeping firm, being a... All your hard work seems to go out the window when you fall back into bad habits. So far 2013 has been one hell of a hot mess for me. I've watched good habits not only fly out the window, but get flushed down the toilet! Stress in my personal life and at work has sent me into binge eating mode like I haven't seen in years. I have totally fell off the diet band wagon this holiday season. I've eaten boxes of chocolates, loaves of cinnamon swirl bread and I'm afraid to step on the scale. I can see the damage I've done (hello stomach pooch and cottage cheese butt) and I'm ashamed of myself. My one saving grace is that my workouts have continued to be awesome. I'm not afraid of a little sweat equity but I can't seem to find a nutrition strategy that works for me. Even though I am... I'm finishing up week 6 of Lee LaBrada's Lean Body Trainer. This is a great workout program! I really can't say enough about it. For a busy working woman you just can't beat it. Each workout can be done in 1 hour. Cardio days are only 30 minutes and while I haven't lost any weight (this is diet related and my own fault) I see more muscle tone and my strength has increased. The exercises can get a bit repetitive, but you can easily replace an exercise with something. For examp... I was taking off my workout clothes, getting ready for the shower when these words just popped into my head: "I'm tired of trying to be thin." Needless to say this was somewhat of a shock. Who am I if not the woman trying to be thin? It's been my life-long goal!! My purpose for being! Ok, too dramatic but you get the point. I put so much stress on myself physically and mentally trying to be thin. In actuality I guess I am sort of thin, but it's nev... I eat far less junk and fast food than I used to, but I've been unsuccessful at making clean and healthy eating a consistent habit. I don't know how many times I've tried. I'll do really well for 2 weeks and then I mess up, undo all my good work and start over yet again. My most recent success story was 1 week ago when I realized that I actually had a two pack on my stomach. I was so happy! Then I went to brunch, then I had a cookie binge, then I was perfect... I've always held weight in my stomach. But even as the scale inches down (at a snail's pace) I don't see the lean muscle definition I crave. How much weight and fat do I need to lose to see the muscle I've been... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 13:47:46 EST Mid-Year Check Up http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4968415 Where has the time gone?! It's July!! How, how, how? Time to take a look back at the last 6 months and figure out where I'm at.

My 2012 Goals are:

1. To get back to my goal weight. - Nope, not yet. I have been maintaining though.
2. Find a healthy alternative to manage stress. - My emotional eating is MUCH better.
3. Train harder! - 248
4. Get Stronger! - 248

So, two out of four goals met. Not too shabby. Sta... Fri, 13 Jul 2012 09:37:25 EST San Francisco - Walking and R&R - Napa Valley Romance http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4935914 My week in sunny California is over. 39 But I had a wonderful time walking around San Francisco, spoiling myself at the ISpa and indulging in delicious wine in Napa Valley. I hit the gym almost every day and stuck pretty close to my training schedule. I skipped one day of strength training, but that was the day I walked all the way to Sausalito!

This is my photo journey!

When I decided to keep on walking!

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpe... Thu, 21 Jun 2012 09:23:44 EST Deloading Week Complete. Time for a new 12 Week Plan. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4911229 I loved my deloading week! I took Week 11 from LiveFit and decreased the weights I usually lift by 75%. It was like a vacation, but an active one. Then I took the weekend off. My diet this weekend was terrible! As a result my stomach isn't feeling very good and I have a headache. So I get to the gym this morning sure that I'll feel week and sluggish, but I was raring to go!! Today was Day 1 of my new 12 Week Program from The Female Training Bible on Bodybuilding.com. The first 4 wee... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 09:43:32 EST Overtraining: Time for a Training Break http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4897456 I've been feeling totally trashed lately. I'm exhausted and my workouts are suffering. I show up at the gym and I can't get through my workout! ThenI give myself hell for being a lazy, weak slob. It doesn't even occur to me that I may need a break. I'm afraid that taking a break of more than 3 days will completely derail my training. I did some research on the internet and found article after article on overtraining and training breaks. I also found lots of suggestions on how to "activ... Fri, 25 May 2012 10:47:37 EST Life after LiveFit - What now? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4883820 I finished my second round of the 12 week LiveFit Program. I'm feeling great and pleased with where I am headed. But since I'm Ms Mood Swing I may be feeling frustrated tomorrow! 246 Anyway, what now? I took 3 days off from working out and during my down time I combed the internet looking for a new workout. I really enjoyed LiveFit because of the structure. I've really become a person who thrives on routine and I never would have thought I'd become that person. Routine is ... Wed, 16 May 2012 09:18:05 EST LiveFit Week 12! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4870118 It's here! The last week of my 2nd round of the LiveFit Challenge. This might have been a much more successfull venture if I was eating cleaner. I've made huge strides in eating better, but I still have a long way to go. I know I will never see the results I want unless I get on the clean eating bandwagon 100%, but I don't think I have it in me or maybe I really don't want to. LiveFit has not only educated me about working out and eating clean, it has educated me about myself. Who I am... Mon, 7 May 2012 09:19:57 EST Livefit Wk 11! Oh My Aching Back!! Carb Cycling Stinks! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4858978 Can I admit defeat? LiveFit Round 2 is kicking my butt! My back is not happy! Plus I'm sooo hungry!! This carb cycling is for the birds! I was able to stick with it for 2 days before feeling so sick I had to stop. This is insanity! I can't believe anyone feels good carb cycling to the extreme recommended by this program. Goes to show you that everyone is different and this is just not for me. I envy Jamie Eason, but I do not make a living in a bikini, so as long as I am content with... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 09:53:43 EST Thoughts on Strength Training and the LiveFit Program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4847894 I've made it to week 10 of my second round of the LiveFit Program!! I was thinking the other day that I really have learned a lot and I've realized/confirmed a few things along the way.

1. You don't need to do a lot of cardio to lose fat. Strength training burns fat too. The more muscle you have the more fat you burn. You may not feel that you're losing as much weight following a program like LiveFit, but you'll be smaller because muscle takes up less space than fat.
... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 10:44:56 EST LiveFit Phase 3!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4837527 Today I begin Phase 3! Hurrah!! I can't wait to shed some fat. I gained 5 lbs of muscle (hopefully, it's mostly muscle) during Phase 2 and I'm feeling puffy and unhappy. I remember going through the same thing the during my first round of the program. Time to up the intensity and shed some fat. I'm not sure I'm going to be doing the sprints though. I have a back/hip injury that won't heal and running exacerbates it. Might just stick to the elliptical to do the intervals.

... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 11:31:39 EST
