Fri, 27 Jan 2017 03:56:08 EST Progress and a hike. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6275459 So I had my appointment with the Bariatric Doctor and Nutritionist on Tuesday. I have made some progress, but not as much as I wanted, and I know why. The last two weeks, I ignored my food tracking because I wasn't eating right. Lots of restaurant meals that were poor choices, eating snack foods (chips, mini donuts) that my Dad brought home, and not enough water. I admitted this to the Nutritionist, and so 1st goal is to track everything, especially when I think it is a bad choice. I nee... As I have gotten closer to the age my mom was when she was diagnosed with diabetes, I realized my body shape has changed, and I am starting to carry more abdominal fat. Worried because of a family history cardiac disease, as well as diabetes, I really started to work on getting my weight under control. I redid my goals and got a calorie range of abo... You set a goal, and then work at meeting it. You can participate in all or just one, it's up to you. They are Steps, Mileage, and Fitness Minutes. My son called me on the 13th, very upset. He started going on how he needed to move in with us and he was going to lose his job. I am down 5.6 pounds, so about 1 pound per week. I am happy with that. I did have some problems sticking with my work-out calendar, and my GI issues reappeared for about a week and a half, so my eating wasn’t so great, not necessarily going over calories, but definitely not the healthiest food choices.

I have set up my calendar for the next 5 weeks (2/2/14-3/8/14)
Sunday-Cardio
Monday-Core... I have been known to go through a book a day, and my Kindle is my best friend. Have you ever read a sentence or phrase that just sticks with you? “Don’t fail until you fail.” is one for me. J was discharged from the Rehab Hospital on 9/28. The whole thing was stressful! The staff told him “You are going home on Saturday.” He had it in his mind that he was going back to his home, and got VERY mad when I told him he was coming home with me, at least for a month. We argued for about an hour before I walked out. I told him to call his Hanai Mom and talk to her, and then let me know what he decided. I called her when I got home, and we talked... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 22:56:48 EST A WORK IN PROGRESS http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5383889 Wow, it’s June, already. I really don’t think I am going to make my weight goal for the end of the quarter. Being so sick for most of April, it took me until the last week and a half of May to feel “back in the groove”.

I have been lurking here on SP, reading blogs, and message board postings. I have been inconsistent in my food tracking, (Cookie? What Cookie?) making meal choices that were not the best, and not being honest with myself about it. When I was able to start eat... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 22:36:07 EST IN HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5369582 Today is Memorial Day. I think living and growing up in Hawaii has given me a unique perspective on this day.

Hawaii has one of the highest concentration of military bases per square mile.
Hawaii is the site of one of most remembered foreign attacks against the American Military on American Soil.

I grew up knowing that this day was spent visiting graves. At school, we were asked to help string flower lei for the Boy Scouts to place at the National Cemetery of th... Mon, 27 May 2013 18:24:05 EST MOTHER'S DAY http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5354359 First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all you "Mothers", whether you are a birth-, step-, foster-, or a Like-A-, I hope you enjoyed your special day. I have 2 grown sons of my own.

Mother's day is a little bitter-sweet, for my family. All of my Grandmothers have passed on, and are dearly missed by us. Four years ago, we lost my Dad's younger sister to breast cancer. But the big one was the sudden death of my cousins wife two years ago. She was 39 and left behind 3 children bet... Sun, 12 May 2013 20:25:29 EST BACK IN THE SADDLE (OUCH!) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5346757 Welcome to the month of May! Please let it be better!

Well, I got back on my bike yesterday. I haven't been on my bike for over a month, and there are certain areas of my body that are letting me know this. 40 Maybe 15 miles was a little far for a first ride after so long a break, but other than the tenderness, it felt great!! 104 I am hoping to ride after work today, but not sure if that will be doable. It's the weather. It has been raining off and o... Sun, 5 May 2013 22:42:16 EST REAL LIFE HAPPENS http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5332168 So, April has not been a fun month for me. I really shouldn't complain about the weather, I live in Hawaii and don't have feet of snow or patches of black ice or a spring that doesn't want to start. There's no flooding going on and the temperature is a slightly muggy 75* right now. What I do have is VOG. "Vog is created when volcanic gases (primarily oxides of sulfur) react with sunlight, oxygen and moisture. The result includes sulfuric acid and other sulfates." (from Wikipedia) It is a... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 20:30:37 EST GI revolt. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5327053 I haven't been very active for the last few weeks. I am experiencing some GI issues again, and it is really making it hard for me to eat and exercise. I have been going back and forth between soup, ginger ale, ginger tea, and crackers, and what ever the heck I feel like, just to get something in me. Because I haven't really been eating properly, I don't have the energy to exercise, or I have abdominal pains that have me sitting curled around a heating pad. Missed work at the beginning of... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 23:33:43 EST FLYING THROUGH THE FIRST QUARTER http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5306514 FLYING THROUGH THE FIRST QUARTER

Can you believe that we are ¼ of the way through the year? For me, the older I get, the faster time flies! I just received my Employee Service Award marking 20 Years! It doesn’t seem that long.

So, my weight loss goal was 20 lbs. I lost 15, 75% of goal. I did a bit of lose-gain-lose-gain in March, so am satisfied with how I have done so far.
I have worked on my exercise, and I have been better at doing it, but still not as con...
