Again 3 months ago, a longtime friend (my husband has known him since high school and I met him 10 years ago when my hubby and I first started dating) asked if we'd be interested in moving into his rental house. It would be a good deal for all of us, as we weren't happy with the house we'd been living in for 5 years (houses way to close together and all of the yards being "community property") and they would benefit from having responsible tenants. They had had to evict the previous tenants for n... Wed, 3 Sep 2014 16:32:19 EST Healthy, Inexpensive, Potluck Ideas? I have a potluck tomorrow and am looking for inexpensive, but healthy potluck ideas. There will be 20 - 40 people attending. I'm trying to get back on the healthy eating wagon. Thanks! Sun, 10 Aug 2014 21:19:11 EST Out of the 300 lb Club! I reached my heaviest weight recently of nearly 310 pounds. However, I am happy to say that I am now 299 pounds and have met one of my short term goals of getting out of the 300s!

I am so proud of myself, yet so ashamed at the same time. I want to be happy, but I really am having conflicted feelings. I want to shout it from the roof top that I am no longer 300+ pounds, but that would also involve admitting that I did once weigh that much. I want to be happy that I've lost 11 ... My morning started off really rough. I bought myself some chocolate covered Craisins as a treat for myself a couple of days ago. This morning, I found them on the couch and they had been cut open. I knew perfectly well that it was my daughter, but I am trying to have a calmer approach to dealing with her lying and taking things. She is almost 6-years-old, so I'm really trying to break her of these bad habits. Unfortunately, lying seems to be a genetic trait in my husband's family. I as... Thu, 8 May 2014 16:53:36 EST BLC 25 Week 1 I learned a lot about my teammates for this challenge and found that I had quite a bit in common with people. Probably the most challenging part of the challenge was the Freggies portion. I had to try a new fruit or veggie or prepare them in a different way. With sharing a car with my husband and how busy we are, it was tough finding time to go to the store to purchase new freggies. It was surprisingly tough to pamper myself daily, too. It definitely reinforced that I need to make myself... Wed, 7 May 2014 00:18:14 EST Layering up for Zumba I treated myself to a Zumba class tonight. The instructor of tonight's class is really into twerking and jumping. I don't have much of a butt, so there's little that I can do about that issue, lol. However, I am large chested. So that I could participate fully in tonight's class, I wore a sports bra, a tank top with a built-in bra, and a looser tank top over the top. Zumba was a lot less painful tonight, though it was more cumbersome wearing so many layers.

The instructor noti... Fri, 2 May 2014 17:49:11 EST Sorry for the Rant. I'm Sad and Disgusted. Yesterday was my mom's youngest child's 5th birthday. They had the party today. It was pouring down rain all day, so I didn't really want to go, but it's family and these kids are the only people in our family that are close to their age.

As soon as we walk in (dripping wet), I hand the birthday girl her present and she immediately sets it down and says, "ewww, it's wet," and drops it like it has cooties. Her mother is standing right there and says nothing.

The older ... Sun, 20 Apr 2014 03:00:43 EST My Aunt, My Future? I have an elderly and severely obese aunt that is not doing so well. She has been in the hospital for about a month. Because of being laid up and her previous health issues because of her weight, she has lost most of her muscle tone and can not walk. She has been in a nursing home to get physical therapy. She has decided that it is too hard to do the physical therapy and will just lie in a hospital bed for the rest of her life. She is my favorite aunt on that side of the family and I see... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 04:15:30 EST St. Patrick's Day Tradition 3 years ago, my hubby and I decided to start a St. Patrick's Day tradition of a leprechaun trail. The leprechaun or leprechauns run through the house, starting from the front door, through the living room, through the kitchen, and out the back door. The trail consists of something green and confetti. The leprechaun(s) leave the kids a treat, as well. This year, it was a fun cup (from the dollar store) and gold chocolate coins.

I nearly forgot that it was St. Patrick's Day today... Sun, 16 Mar 2014 22:52:47 EST Having a Rough Day Today was a long and rough day. To be able to get things done today, the kids and I had to drive the hubby to work at 2:00 in the morning, so it made for a very long day. The kids and I sorted clothes at their school yesterday for a clothing swap. My daughter and I volunteered at it again today. We sorted more clothes and helped people find items that they were looking for.

Yesterday, the teachers encouraged me to take clothes from the many piles of clothes and I managed to fin... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 23:49:55 EST Definitely Need to Start Training for October Every year at the park by my house, the city puts on a Warrior Dash-type event. I have been wanting to do it for the past few years. My kids are starting to be old enough now that they would be able to be babysat or to watch from the sidelines while being watched.

I want the hubby and I to be more active. For him, he has to be "tricked" into exercise by doing something fun. I find safety in routine. This really does look fun, though. I want to start with this local event. ... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 12:25:36 EST Today's a Good Day to Begin Last night, I decided to get more serious about my fitness and health goals. I took a "before" pics and took my weight and measurements. I am going to keep up with tracking these to keep up the progress and my motivation. It's depressing being this big, but I'm trying to focus on making the numbers go down, instead of dwelling on what they currently are.

Of course, I woke up a little ill today, too. I'm not very hungry, so I'll push the liquids, get rest and get some exercise i... Mon, 17 Feb 2014 12:42:50 EST Valentine's Day Hair Style for my Daughter My daughter is just getting to the point where I can style her hair and she'll leave it in for most of the day. Here is what I decided to do with her hair for Valentine's Day:

I stole the idea from Pinterest and think that it turned out pretty well. Mon, 17 Feb 2014 12:36:28 EST Valentine's Breakfast I decided to try something new for Valentine's Day breakfast for my daughter and I. Their move was done very hastily and without a lot of planning. My sister had assumed that her teaching certifications would automatically transfer (they didn't) and that he'd be able to start college there half way through the semester (huh?). Their move has caused stress and tension between them the whole time.

She and I have always been close. ... Fri, 14 Feb 2014 01:39:46 EST Biggest Loser for Inspiration I had forgotten how easy it is to get sick while working. I spent the whole time that I was working at my last temp job ill. First, I caught the flu, then a cold. I have very mild asthma and it only acts up when I'm sick and it takes a long time to get rid of colds because of it.

I've been watching what I eat and am down about 2 pounds! This is especially great considering that I had an office job and got little exercise during the day. For motivation, I have been watching Big... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 23:59:54 EST Toughed it out until the End I'm proud to say that I toughed it out at my temp job. Today was my last day. I got through the last couple of weeks by just listening to my MP3 player. I heard a few comments here and there, since they thought that I couldn't hear them, but I just ignored it and focused on my work and my music.

I gained some great experience, so it was an overall good experience. I just think that speaking up cost me the job as the other 3 are still working for another week or two. I was mov... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 16:37:44 EST Uncomfortable Work Environment I returned to work at a temp job 3 weeks ago. I had really missed working, as I had been a stay-at-home mom for the last two years. However, I have not missed the drama.

I work with a girl in her early twenties, a lady in her mid-50s, and a lady that's about 60. I try really hard to be pleasant and show an interest in the things that they talk about. A lot of the time, though, they talk about TV shows or partying. If the topic doesn't interest me or I know nothing about it, I ... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 12:56:37 EST Tried to Begin Working on my New Year's Resolutions Early... The day after Christmas, I was excited to start working on my health and fitness goals for the New Year. I am on a break right now from school, so I am working full-time after having been a stay-at-home mom for the last 2 years. I made myself do at least a half an hour of my Yogalates DVD and that really was all I was feeling up to doing.

On top of me working full-time, the hubby got a full-time job! He is a baker at a sub shop! He loves it. However, I do not love his schedule... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 01:16:57 EST Car Update After shopping around for the past few weeks and trying to get the best price to fix the engine for my car, we decided that it would be the best option to sell it to a scrap yard. We got a couple of hundred dollars for it. We've put so much money into that car, but at least we were able to get something for it. We've been borrowing my dad's small truck for the past couple of weeks. That was really great of him to let us borrow it! He used his bigger truck to get around while we had that.... Mon, 23 Sep 2013 14:04:06 EST Feeling Overwhelmed I'm trying to stay positive and motivated, but it just feels like I'm drowning lately and can't keep above water. As I've already mentioned, my car broke down and then was made even worse by my cousin, the "mechanic, " who still expects to be paid for making it worse.

I finally got my financial aid loan disbursement. I don't like taking out extra student loan monies, but we're not doing well financially right now. My husband is still only working part-time and doesn't make enoug... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 21:55:28 EST Farewell to my Sister My middle sister and best friend is moving in the morning to Albuquerque with her boyfriend and her cat. He is going to attend college there and she is going to try to get a teaching job. They have both lived here for nearly their entire lives. They want to get away from this cold, rainy weather and live somewhere warmer for a while. I'm sure that they also want to be on their own and be away from their families as a couple. My family and his still live here.

I went with her t... Fri, 30 Aug 2013 00:38:23 EST Trail Improvement Service Project A local neighborhood (the homeowner's association, maybe?) decided to improve a trail that leads from their neighborhood to the local middle school. They hoped that improving the trail would make it look nicer and be safer for kids walking to and from school. They invited a few other local organizations along to help, as well. There were many volunteers from a local Lutheran church and that neighborhood. My family was invited along through his Cub Scout pack and we were the only group fro... Sun, 25 Aug 2013 23:31:54 EST Dog Update It turns out that my dog has hip dysplasia and arthritis. The vet gave me some medication to help her for now. When I get my financial aid money from school, I will get her some joint health vitamins to supplement the multivitamin that I already give both of my dogs. I also opted to have a Senior Pre-Op blood work package done as well to find out if there are any underlying issues. The vet has prepared me that it is a very real possibility that there is something else wrong, as her healt... Sat, 24 Aug 2013 15:07:03 EST Taking my Dog to the Vet

I'm leaving in about 2 1/2 hours to take one of my dogs to the vet. Her hips/back legs have been hurting her for the last couple of weeks. I feel bad that she had to wait this long to be seen, but we had to wait until my hubby's pay day. We were also able to get a grant of 25% of the bill from Concern for Animals.

The vet basically said that the best-case scenario is that she injured herself and will... Fri, 23 Aug 2013 16:43:45 EST Soccer Pizza/Award Ceremony :( Tomorrow is my kids' last soccer games for their teams. My daughter's coach invited the team out for pizza after their game. I guess I'm ignorant or naive, but I took this to mean that the organization or the coach would pay. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't invite the team for pizza unless it was being paid for. It seems a little tacky, I guess that's just me, though.

I am an unemployed stay-at-home mom/college student and my hubby works part-time. We struggle to pay the bi... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 19:24:18 EST Cold Yoga I made myself do Yogalates tonight, as I've been slacking lately. I'm especially trying to my exercise a habit/priority with starting college back up today after a 2 week break. I'll be sitting more with doing homework.

Even with a big fan on me through my workout, I was still way more sweaty than I wanted to be. It hit me that I should invent Cold Yoga, lol. I'm not sure how well it would catch on, but it would sure beat exercising in the heat and getting hotter and sweatier. ... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 01:01:21 EST Blackberry and Crab Apple Picking Over the weekend, I went blackberry picking with my sister and my kids. We pick the berries along the side of the Western Chehalis Trail. We got exercise in, which was a nice bonus. We walked about 2 miles. It was a very slow walk with having the kids along and picking the berries, but the exercise made me feel a lot better and relaxed me. It was very much needed, especially with this mess of my car situation.

We picked enough for a cobbler! Well, we picked enough for 1 1/2 c... Wed, 14 Aug 2013 18:52:07 EST MIxing Family and Car Work My car has been broken down for pretty much since the beginning of July. First, the timing belt snapped. We bought a new one and replaced it, but it turned out that, when it snapped, it bent pistons and parts of the motor beyond repair. Or at least, way more than the car would be worth. It's a 94 Honda Accord.

My dad said that he would pay my cousin, F, $250 to fix it and I would have to pay him back, as we didn't know what the problem was yet. My hubby told F that if he could... Fri, 9 Aug 2013 02:12:42 EST Political Science Final and Grade Technically, I aced my final! I got a 93% on it. Hey, an A is an A, so I'm not going to complain. Overall it the course, I got a B+, at 89.6%. Not too shabby!

Now, I'm just waiting for the journal entries to post for Women's Studies. Sun, 28 Jul 2013 23:10:08 EST End of Summer Semester My life is kinda in a state of chaos right now. My hubby hasn't been getting many hours at work, so his checks have been smaller. We're a little behind on bills and rent because of this. Then, to top it off, the car has been breaking down one piece after another for the last month. This is further eating into money we really don't have.

On the 28th is the last day of the semester. Yesterday, I decided to do something positive in light of all of this chaos. I finished my final ... Sun, 21 Jul 2013 22:28:21 EST Family Issues I get the feeling that my middle sister isn't speaking to me right now and I have no idea why. We usually talk at least once a week either on the phone or chat on Facebook and haven't heard from her in about a month. We are both busy right now, but it's still a little strange that it's been this long since we've spoken.

I have kids that are very busy with activities and I'm finishing a final paper for Political Science. Thu, 18 Jul 2013 15:10:39 EST Bee Sting Tonight, when I was taking my daughter to the restroom during her soccer practice, a bee stung the side of my foot. Just my luck, it stung me right along the strap of my flip flops, so I had to deal with my shoe rubbing against the bee sting the rest of the night. I also had to remove the stinger. I had only been stung one other time in my life, when I was 5 years old.

I am elevating my foot and taking the night off from exercising. I'm still going to be busy, though, as I wo...
