This may seem silly, but to me it is a milestone. I have been putting off doing it because I always want to lose more, get smaller, etc. I never reset it “just in case.” I realized today that I'm being rather silly about the whole thing. I currently have decent eating and exercise habits, and I feel I'm pretty healthy. I'm okay; I eat tasty things, and I work out as many times a week as I can. At this point,... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 19:12:51 EST Away for a week or so. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5625215 My mother passed, and so I am leaving for a trip to Alabama to visit family and to say goodbye. I don't think I'll be tracking while I'm there or really worried too much over food and fitness at all. I won't be posting, I won't be blogging until I return.

But, I will return. Sun, 9 Feb 2014 10:15:40 EST Food/Fitness Updates http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5616249 Hi all!

I've gotten some messages from some of you asking me what I'm working on now and such, so I thought I'd post up here. After I finished up my round of Chalean Extreme, I tried to work on a different program that was mostly cardio based (JM's Body Revolution). I ended up stopping after phase one because I just didn't like it. After that, I took a week or so off and then started back up with another round of Chalean Extreme. I find the weight lifting to be rewarding in a w... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 19:38:08 EST This blog has no title. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5581069 It has been a really, really long time since I've blogged. I really should be ashamed of myself but, to tell truth, I'm not. The reason that I'm not, is that despite having a period of time when I wasn't tracking and really wasn't minding what when or why I was eating, I still managed to keep pretty decent habits. I lost a lot, gained back a little, and now I'm pretty much back where I was before I stopped tracking.

Through trial and error, I've pretty much determined my ideal b... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 17:54:46 EST Cooking Primally http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5512559 I have been working on being as primal in my eating style as I possibly can, not really because of the evolutionary ideas behind it or whatnot, but simply because I think it is a really healthy and clean way of eating. Lately, I've been working on cooking things that my family will eat, so that I need not prepare a seperate dish for myself. The two following items were big hits with my kids:

Butternut Pumpkin Soup

Ingredients
1 can pumpkin
1 can coconut milk ... My life has become increasingly hectic as of late, so I have neglected my blog a bit. Here I am, though, bringing it back from the dead. I am slowly attempting to enter the world of Primal eating. At this point on my journey for health and fitness, I've already had to give up wheat, barley, rye, and oats due to being diagnosed with celiac disease. That transition led me to give up p... Tue, 1 Oct 2013 21:24:47 EST Chalean Extreme Weights http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5449323 A lot of people have messaged me about the Chalean Extreme program that I am currently doing, asking me what I'm lifting. I thought I'd just go ahead and post this here. When looking this over, there are a few things you might want to keep in mind about my numbers:

1) When I began, I owned 5lb, 8lb, 10lb, 12lb, 15lb, and 20lb dumbbell sets. I only recently picked up a pair of 25lbs, and when I do the program again (which I will eventually), I will also pick up a set of 30lbs. <B... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 22:09:09 EST Over-sharing. Apparently, I have the blood alleles associated with the condition, and I've found that, perhaps wheat could be the source of several of my health issues which I thought previously unrelated. Things like a high resting heart rate, severe stomach pain, general fatigue. Who knew that wheat - the ultimate whole grain goodness - could do this to someone? Apparently, lots of people did, as one in about every 130 so... Mon, 1 Jul 2013 22:25:56 EST Slim Gyms Summer Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5394083 My Summer Challenge Goals

As some of you know from my last posts, I made it a goal in June to be more active on this website. As such, I vowed to do something that I had not yet done up to that point; I wanted to join a challenge. I did, and a part of that challenge is to write up goals for what we'd like to accomplish. Here is my blog.

I'm happy with my weight right now. I'm at peace with the number, and if it goes down that is awesome, but if I stay at 135, I'll ca... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 23:45:56 EST June Updates http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5385017 I have a few things to post about today, so forgive me if I ramble. The first and best thing is that my legs are pretty darn healed, no more muscle cramps! I started back up with Chalean Extreme today, and did Burn Circuit 1. It was a little harder than before I took the short break, but I was still able to lift the same amounts, so that was good! I am very excited to be back in my routine, although I do admit the break did me some good.

In keeping with my June goals, I joined ... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 20:37:55 EST A Break from Exercise. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5379542 And I'm not happy about it either. I'm warning you now, this is going to be something of a rant.

So, I went kayaking on Sunday. It was a beautiful day, the temperature was nice, the sun was shining, the water was great. Like the knucklehead I am, I didn't bother with putting on any sunscreen. I figure that I usually get burnt about once a year, and after I tough that one out, I get all tan and freckly, then I'm good to go for the rest of the summer.

My plan had some ... Wed, 5 Jun 2013 20:32:40 EST June Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5374627 I need to make some goals for June. I haven't really been good about setting up short term goals, but it is something I should work on.

Goal 1 - Be more involved in the community.
I don't post a lot on the forums, and I haven't been terribly active with teams and challenges. I should change this and become more invested in Spark.

Goal 2 - Join a team challenge or two.
I need to find a team that supports goals similar to mine and join up with some challenges i... Sat, 1 Jun 2013 13:07:41 EST Customizing Chalean Extreme Rotation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5367599 This week I started with Chalean Extreme, which is a strength based training program. I'm making notes here on my rotation, due to time constraints, I needed to switch up the rotation a little. The Burn Circuits are approximately 30-40 minutes long, with 2 cardio workouts, one "Ab Burner" workout, and one stretch and flexibility workout. The "Burn Intervals" cardio disk is around 45 minutes long, the "Burn Off" cardio disk is about 20 minutes long. The stretch "Recharge" workout is 20 min... Sat, 25 May 2013 13:16:55 EST Goal #1 - Met http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5360311 So, I changed up my goals when I reached a weight that I was somewhat happy with. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to lose more fat and hopefully inches, but I found a number that I could live with for the rest of my life. 142 puts me in the “normal” weight range, and gives me a “normal” BMI for my height. In addition to that, it marks 30lbs down since I started on Spark. I'm pretty happy with that. It isn't to say that I'm stopping or that I'll quit trying as hard, it is simply to say that ... Sat, 18 May 2013 14:53:15 EST Resetting Goals and X Factor ST Week 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5347668 I completed week 6 of the X Factor ST workout system. This week was particularly tough, and because I am a glutton for punishment, there were a couple of days when I repeated the disk twice. There were squats with leg raises, planes and trains, planks with alternating leg raises, v-sit ups (which I still can't do because they bother my back), spider man jumps, frog leaps, and many, many more. This was the first time in about two weeks that the disks for this program made me jump around and... Mon, 6 May 2013 17:19:55 EST Progress is more than a number on a scale. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5341101 The dreaded “P” word. And no, I don't mean pudding, peanut butter, or potato chips. That word no one on a weight loss journey wants to hear.

Plateau.

I know that there are a bajillion and a half reasons why people hit weight loss plateaus. If you google it, you get all sorts of advice on what to do and how to get through it. Tue, 30 Apr 2013 19:19:54 EST X Factor ST Week 5 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5335696 It occurs to me, that perhaps because of my injury, that I have not yet written a blog regarding Weider Xfactor: ST Week 5, which is what I'm currently working on. As always, the program has the exact same warm up and cool down, but the half hour segment between these has changed. There are more 90 second segments, and they've grown slightly more challenging.

The mix of exercises this week are knee huggers, speed skaters, one legged pushups with a jump (essentially one legged bur... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 21:01:42 EST Progress Earned vs. Progress Needed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5331089 So lately when I look in the mirror, I'm having different reactions to what I see. First of all, I'm pretty happy about several changes that are quite visible after having an over 20lb loss; changes like the reappearance of my collarbone and those muscles in my arms and legs that I knew were there, but I had not seen for a while. However, if I look at my reflection long enough, rather than seeing my progress, I begin to see the things that need work, the imperfections, the flaws.

... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 22:34:15 EST Stubborn Refusal to Back Down http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5327065 I was fifteen minutes into a kickboxing workout when I collapsed into a heap on my right ankle. Somehow I turned it mid roundhouse kick, and landed on it, rather than on the bottom of my foot. You know, where I usually land.

I'm a klutz. I have been a klutz all of my life. It annoys me to no end, but some people think it is cute, endearing, or even adorable. A running joke between me and my long term hiking buddy is “She hasn't gotten hurt, yet!” (Yes, it is that bad.) So,... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 23:51:06 EST Fitbit, caloric intake, and being cold! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5323343 I have had my fitbit zip for a while now, and I have been better about using it at sometimes than others. When I first purchased it, I was torn between picking it up, or a HRM. I thought maybe the fitbit was a better choice because Sparkpeople endorsed it, and because it synced with the food/fitness tracker on this site. At first, I was a bit shocked that the fitbit would report activity that I did not consider exercise to my fitness tracker. I'd sit down and wonder “Where did that fift... Sun, 14 Apr 2013 23:04:14 EST Hiking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5316578 Spring has arrived. After being cooped up for what seems like a long, long winter, finally the time has come where I can get outside and partake in some of my favorite exercises. Namely, hiking.

I have always loved hiking, whether I was in “good” shape, or not. When I did not necessarily do it for fitness, I would still do it because I enjoyed it, and it was fun. You see, I like working out for the most part (because of a sense of accomplishment, and endorphins!), but I don't... Tue, 9 Apr 2013 00:07:01 EST X Factor ST Week 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5311116
I finally made it to week four of this DVD based workout program. In theory, I should be further along than this, but I was stalled by the flu, and then going back a week in the program in order to readjust. Week four marks the halfway point in this eight week program, and I feel like it has made quite a difference for me both in terms of fitness and endurance, as well as body shape and muscle tone.

This week includes cardiovascular moves like the “spider man jump”, “burpee... Thu, 4 Apr 2013 08:39:36 EST The War on Pushups http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5298550 When I started to get serious about fitness and exercise, I had an idea of what was in store for me. I had a vague idea of what exercises I did and did not enjoy. I don't mind squats and bicep curls, dead lifting, things of that sort. Some of these things I thought were, of course, more fun than others. I dreaded the very words lunge and crunch.

After a while, doing the program that I've been following (Weider X-Factor ST), I have come to appreciate lunges rather than groan eve... I've been happy and I've been discouraged, my mood and state of mind alternates between the two. Happy because I'm at it again, active, moving, and working out. Discouraged because, try as I might, I can not do as much as quickly as I could before I came down with the flu. I felt pretty fit and excited to work out before I got sick. My daughter brought home a case of the flu, and was kind enough to share it with me. I swear, children are like little germ factories. The first couple of days I tried to stubborn it out and work out anyway, but by the third day, I could barely get out of bed. My whole body hurt, I had a fever and chills, I was shaking, and I couldn't control my own body movements very well.

Although I'm mostly better, I still have some lingering sinus trou... Thu, 28 Feb 2013 08:40:14 EST X Factor: ST Week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5243252 I thought I might make a second post now that I am almost finished with my second week of this program. Disk two, which you perform every other day in week two, takes the moves that you learned during week one, and builds on them. Whereas in week one, you are performing moves like "tabletop," in week two, you are performing moves like advanced tabletop with alternating leg raises. I watched the video before I attempted it, and I thought to myself "Oh boy, I am truly a glutton for punishmen... I stumbled upon this program while looking for some high intensity circuit training to try out. From all the reviews I have read on it, people claimed it was easier than programs like Insanity and PX90, but still very challenging. Perfect, I thought, because it was also about a third of the price of these other programs.

My first day I was very excite... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 20:15:17 EST Weekly Weigh-In Prediction http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5225995 I'm going to take a short break from reviewing things, to give you all an update on my progress today. Tomorrow is time for my weekly weigh in, and because it is approaching, I have been thinking a lot about it. I have a prediction – one that I may or may not be alright with.

Since I've started my fitness routine, I've dropped a great deal of weight. It came off quickly and with few hiccups. Sun, 27 Jan 2013 18:39:51 EST EA Sports Personal Trainer (Wii) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5217748 I weighed in today and I made the astounding discovery that somehow I have shed 6 pounds in a week. I have decided that it is not for me to question the gods, but to simply to rejoice in this small blessing which they have seen fit to bestow upon me. I have not been logging my exercise lately because I haven't been doing much of it. I had a small (not serious) surgery, and I didn't think my dentist would appreciate my explanation of “But I had a date with Jillian Michaels.”

Howe... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 22:08:26 EST Yoga Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5202784 Yoga day.

I started with Jillian Michaels' video "Yoga Meltdown" level one. I picked this one in particular because it is free on youtube, and I have been enjoying the 30 Day Shred. I think that perhaps I was in over my head this time. Not only does Jillian go through many of the more popular yoga poses, she also incorporates movement, making them no longer static stretches. For someone with balance and coordination, this workout would probably be great. But for an overweight ... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 21:26:17 EST Tae Bo http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5198772 I remember being a teenager and watching late night infomercials featuring Billy Blanks' "new revolutionary workout system" that combined elements of martial arts and boxing for an all around phenomenal cardio workout. And although I have watched those infomercials time and time again, I have never - until today - actually tried Tae Bo myself.

I went to youtube and did a search for "Tae Bo Cardio" and found a very old school 44 minute (including warm-up and cool down) video.
