Life took a turn for the depressing for a while over the summer, so I stopped doing pretty much everything. Fortunately, I have a hugely supportive husband (and a few adorable fuzzies - the dog has adjusted quite well and is currently taking stairs better than I am).
I also got a job in October, which has done wonders for my mental health (methinks I am not cut out for a life of sitting at home). It's also part of what prompted ... Sat, 25 Jan 2014 09:50:40 EST New Puppy Dog! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5285620 My husband and I adopted a new dog this weekend. He's a one-year-old Pomeranian who was kept in a crate in a closet by his previous owners. He only has three legs because one of them had to be removed.
So far, he's adjusting very well. He's an absolute sweetheart, and the only thing he can't do yet is climb stairs (although he's already handling curbs with ease).
The cats are... coping.
As I write this, our new dog is sleeping in one of his new beds, next to the couch. All ... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 18:33:15 EST Here I Go Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5263223 I'm gearing up to start working on another book (the other one has been shelved until I can stand to look at it again, which may be awhile), so here I am, procrastinating.
I don't know if it was the food in Costa Rica or if I've finally managed to do this diet/exercise thing correctly, but I've actually managed to lose a couple of pounds and seem to have hit a tiny personal benchmark. YAY. Let's see if I can manage to keep it up. I avoided temptation in the form of pizza yesterday, bu... Mon, 25 Feb 2013 10:32:35 EST Costa Rica http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5258712 Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the fortune to visit. My husband and I were able to travel across the country from the Caribbean to the Pacific, and the country is gorgeous from one side to the other. It is also, from most reports and from our own experience, very safe. At the end of our stay we spent four days at a resort. We felt no qualms about leaving the resort and exploring nearby beaches and towns.
It is, in my opinion, the perfect country to go ... Thu, 21 Feb 2013 11:55:26 EST I'm back. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5198525 The holidays were weird for me this year. I decided to jump feet first into the whole "first year of marriage" thing, and as I now live a few states away from the wonderful people who raised me, I did not go home for Christmas.
I did end up spending a lot of time with my husband's family, which was great. His mom helps keep me sane sometimes, I think.
I'm fairly proud of the fact that I only seem to have put one pound back on. I did my best not to overindulge and believe that I s... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 10:11:03 EST Being Outside http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5154128 I got married in May, quit my job, and moved to a new state. The new start seemed like a great opportunity to try to get into better shape, so we joined a gym. That's been going fairly well, although I tend to experience flashbacks to high school gym class misery while we're there (I know people aren't pointing and laughing at me, and yet I still can't convince myself otherwise).
I think my saving grace has been the great park system out here. The parks are all over the place, so it's... Sun, 2 Dec 2012 23:02:02 EST Win/Lose http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5152138 So I won NaNoWriMo for the first time ever. Yay! Win!
And then my husband and I ate a celebratory dinner at the Outback. Lose! (Although I must be honest, failure was tasty.)
Tomorrow I am going to get back on track. I've actually been doing really well lately with monitoring my food intake, and I'm liking this site and its accompanying app a lot more than the one I was using previously.
Not looking forward to hopping on the scale tomorrow morning, though... Fri, 30 Nov 2012 23:25:10 EST Why am I doing this right now? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5151504 Today is the very last day of NaNoWriMo and I have somewhere around 7000 words to go before I reach my goal of 50,000. So instead of actually working on my novel, I'm here, setting up a blog that I will probably never remember to write in after today.
Why?
Because now is the season of procrastination, and I apparently have some deeply rooted subconscious desire to be writing until 11:59 tonight.
Also, I've never been a member of an online community like this before (Facebook d...
