Sun, 3 Aug 2014 13:28:53 EST My First Pipevine Swallowtail! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5751733 When we first started raising butterflies in 2010, the Pipevine Swallowtail is the one we wanted to raise. Although we have had several Dutchman's Pipevine (their host plant) we never even saw one. There was a Swallowtail that laid eggs, but it was the Polydamas Swallowtail. Since I didn't know the difference, I called that one Pipevine. Well, four years later, I know the difference and I am thrilled to see these REAL Pipevine Swallowtails.

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.c... I am less than seven pounds from my goal and I really want to get there this time. I am really working hard to ignore the things that tripped me up in the past; my clothes are fitting better and I am even wearing a smaller size, I am feeling more energetic and really enjoy the health benefits of exercising.

Now, I just have to stay away from people that are telling me I look great and don't have to lose any more ... Mon, 7 Jul 2014 10:25:34 EST I Raised A Giant! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5711451 I have been raising butterflies for over four years now, but I never had a Giant Swallowtail or a Zebra Longwing lay eggs until this year. Instead of citrus, I thought I would try planting a Hercules club and sure enough, I only had the potted plant out on the patio for two days and I thought I had seen a Giant Swallowtail in the yard, but I wasn't sure. When I looked at my plants, I was thrilled to see several eggs. Well, those eggs hatched and the six caterpillars turned into chrysalises. M... Thu, 5 Jun 2014 16:22:46 EST OMG! Are Those Abs Under There? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5699250 Well, I did notice that my pants were starting to get a little loose, but I really didn't pay attention because the scale has been moving pretty slowly. I'm not complaining about that though because it is moving in the right direction. I don't want to jinx myself, so I'm just keeping on working my program. I set a goal for myself to do 1800 exercise minutes this month and that would average an hour a day. That seemed like a challenge to me because I usually take a break on Sunday, but it seem... The food sounded so delicious. It just proved to me that you can eat healthy and still entertain, make dishes that taste good and look good too.

I wasn't as creative and didn't have to do a lot of different items, but I started small with one thing. Now I just have plants all around the house and keep the caterpillars in a net Caterpillar Castle. Once the butterfly emerges, I will release them within 24 hours. Mon, 10 Mar 2014 17:22:22 EST What A Milestone! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5640597 I can hardly believe that four years ago, I knew little to nothing about butterflies. sure, I thought they were pretty, but that was about as far as it went. I retired after more than 30 years of working for AT&T. Once I was retired, I had time to pursue other interests. I didn't even know I was interested in butterflies until we moved to Florida and I had time to plant some flowers in the yard. I have been practicing walking with a little jogging thrown in. My first try actually set me back, but I got a brace to wear on my knee. That allowed me to walk without pain and even jog a little. That encouraged me enough to register for a race because I really missed not running and I wanted to get back in that arena. Well, I slowly built up my miles and worked on getting a little faster. I felt like I was losing weight, but I only weigh once a week and I was thrilled to see the scale this morning. That is a 1.4 pound loss over last week. I didn't lose any weight last week and normally, that would make me just want to add insult to misery and eat something I shouldn't or sit on my rear and watch TV. Now that I am back on SparkPeople, all I have to do is read a few blogs or visit some friends and that is enough to make me want to do better. So, you see, there is a lot to the "buddy system". Even people I don't really know can motivate me. Although I... I used to love running and especially competing in races, but I am older now and have osteoarthritis and thin cartilage in my knee. It has been painful and I have not run in over a year. In fact, I didn't know if I would ever run again, but I wanted to try. This program combines walking and jogging and so far, it has been ideal. The crowd wasn't large (18 people), but four of them bought books. I was the guest, but Kathy Hall runs the classes. She is so knowledgeable about plants and butterflies. She gave me some Zebra Longwing caterpillars. I was so happy because I have been trying to coax them into the yard. We have the right plants, just hadn't seen any yet. A lot of things have happened this year, but all of them are just excuses for not doing what I know is right. When things go wrong, I learned that food is still my comfort and that is not good. As many of you know, I was writing a book about butterflies. The injury allowed me to spend a lot of time writing and that was a good thing. I had no idea that I knew so much about butterflies. Vince took the pictures and we were able to get some amazing shots of butterflies emerging from their chrysalises. My heart will break when we have to move and I will no longer to be able t... I gained weight again this week and I was so disappointed in myself. I have been so wrapped up in writing that I haven't even tried to fit in a lot of time for exercise. Normally, LCW would really motivate me, I would be really trying to beat my teammates, but right now, I can barely crank out thirty minutes. I'm not trying to make excuses. I just lost my drive. I even registered for a race thinking that would get me moving, but it really di... Wed, 16 May 2012 13:54:23 EST A New Birth! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4859338 I had about a month long pitty party because I was feeling sorry for myself. I don't even want to go into the details, but I am over it. I almost quit my BLC team and that would have been a disaster because, they are the ones that made me see the light and get back on track. This weeks weekend challenge started out very slowly for me and I wasn't able to perform to the maximum, but I participated and that is the important part. Mon, 30 Apr 2012 13:08:54 EST Friday The 13th - WooHoo! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4834033 So today was Friday the 13th and I had a really good thing happen. I have had one or two Monarchs emerge from their chrysalis over the last two weeks, but today, I had 13!!! Can you believe it? I was talking to a friend showing her the ten butterflies that had appeared throughout the morning and I said, it looks like two more are going to come out before the day is over. We were sitting in the breezeway talking when number 11, then number 12 decided to pay us a visit. That is the larges... I just had a group of twenty butterflies that I released during the month of March and my two Swallowtail butterflies finally emerged from their long winter's sleep. I see Monarchs and Sulphur butterflies laying eggs every day, but no Swallowtail eggs yet. They should be coming soon.

It is hard to believe that this tiny little creature can turn into a bea... This ranged from minor wrinkled wings to debilitating, wings that were not fully formed or wouldn't open. These are the little guys that I keep inside the breezeway because they usually can't fly. I remember how thrilled I was just to finish the race last year, but now I want to improve my time. My 10Ks have been getting faster and I have lost weight, so I'm really expecting to do better. This morning was my last long run before my race next weekend. I was averaging 4.7 miles an hour and if I can keep that up, I will beat my best HM time. I am really up for this race. The neat part is, running on the beach and having a beach party afterwards. This year there will be a band and everyone... Fri, 4 Nov 2011 20:19:47 EST Oh My It's Getting Late! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4561402 Unfortunately, I was really sick for a few days this weekend and couldn't give this challenge my all, but there were some things I could accomplish and I did my best. I was feeling better Saturday, but didn't want to push it too hard. This morning, I did my 10K virtual race. It probably was not the best idea, but it has been raining off and on and I am going to be going out of town tomorrow, so it was now or never. I had kind of gotten spoiled by using the treadmill to do my virtual races a... Fri, 7 Oct 2011 12:00:06 EST Making Sure I Hit My Mark! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4513931 I made a vow to myself to work hard on the weekend challenges because the people in the BLC team that are really successful work at it every day. I spent a lot of time fooling around and saw that I really wasn't serious about making my weight goal. I like exercise, so I do get a lot of that in, but my eating was really terrible. What is that all about? Its like saying you want to be healthy then sitin a bar all night smoking and drinking. (don't get me wrong, I did my share of that too) ... Sat, 1 Oct 2011 16:45:28 EST Been Here Before And I don't Want To Blow It This Time! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4508996 Hello 154, my new friend. I know you and we have met many times before, but for some reason, you only stay for a little while and I move on up the ladder to a bigger number that seems to want to visit forever. Well, I'm here to tell you, I am only passing you on my way DOWN the ladder. I am nine pounds away from my lowest weight on Sparks and 21 pounds away from my ultimate goal weight. I plan on a permanent stay when I see 135. Some have told me to consider my age and maybe I shouldn't ... I am home today and will fill out today when it is completed. Mon, 26 Sep 2011 17:58:31 EST My Scale Is No Longer On Probation! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4496986 I bought a new scale last month because my digital scale didn't know how to count. I thought "heck with technology", I want a plain old scale that will show me a tenth of a pound. I don't have the scale the doctors use, but mine is pretty close. Actually, I put every scale in the store in the middle of the isle and weighed on each one, then bought the one that showed me weighing the least.......I thought that was a good plan, but when I got it home, I weighed the same as I did on my old sca...
