GRAPEVINE60's SparkPeople Blog GRAPEVINE60's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I don't mean to whine, but..... I don't mean to whine but, I know that I will before this blog is over. lol

I took a week of vacation this week. I am a class parent for my daughter's junior class. I have had to help raise money all year for prom. So that part is out of the way. lol Prom is on Friday, and I have to chaperone prom, and then go with the kids to after prom. So tomorrow I have to go to the school and help get out the ... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 23:23:07 EST An addiction to gadgets I had a fitbit zip and then they came out with spark activity tracker.......I guess I'm all about gadgets. The fitbit was synced to spark and I was getting all these fitness minutes and I was just doing normal walking throughout the day. The spark wasn't registering as many steps but I was still getting fitness minutes for normal walking. Crazy, huh?

Then somehow I lost the fitbit but I was okay with it because I still had the spark. The problem was that I could only sync when I w... Sun, 13 Oct 2013 23:24:32 EST Holding Pattern I feel like I am in a holding pattern. I have been battling the same 10 pounds for at least 2 years. I lose them then I gain them back. I play the blame game.....I blame my plan, my exercise, the fact that I have too many things in my way of eating healthy.

I do really good for a few days, then I go off track.....then it takes several days for me to get back on track. Then I am back where I started or at times worse off. This week, for example, I was doing great. Monday nig... Fri, 11 May 2012 00:31:25 EST He is so cute...... I just have to say......that I am really enjoying my time in Colorado with baby Cooper. He is such a good baby. I hope to have pictures to post later.

They have a park near their house so hopefully I can take a nice long walk in a bit. Tue, 21 Feb 2012 16:03:35 EST Church potluck......Ugh! We had a church potluck last night. I always have good intentions of eating very selective foods and no dessert. But when I get there, every thought of eating within reason instantly leaves me. I was so full!!!! I did do 30 minutes on the elliptical when I got home but I was still very disappointed in myself.

Does this ever happen to anyone else? Thu, 16 Feb 2012 17:21:39 EST I'm officially a Grammy! I officially have a grandson. Cooper Ross, 7 pounds 3 ounces and 21" long. Thu, 16 Feb 2012 00:59:19 EST Sometimes, little things mean a lot During the week, I pretty much have a computer at my fingertips. On the weekend I keep up with sparkpeople on my smart phone. The browser on my phone does not have flashplayer on it so I can't get my bonus spark points. Lol

It's not really that big if a deal I just want them. Sounds like I'm a spark points junkie, doesn't it?

Everyone enjoy the rest of your weekend. Sun, 12 Feb 2012 10:54:14 EST Help! I need some suggestions..... I'll just give a little background information first. I have four kids.....27, 25, 20 and 15. My 25 year old daughter is married, and has a step daughter. My 27 year old son has a girl friend that is pregnant and due on Feb. 17. The 20 year old is in college, and the 15 year old is in high school.

According to my son, when his girlfriend goes to the doctor tomorrow the doctor is 80% sure that they will schedule a c-section. So next week we are probably going to Colorado to see... Tue, 7 Feb 2012 16:22:41 EST Low Carb Definitely Works for me..... We have a weight loss challenge going on at work. We have to weigh in on Mondays. So my weight on Friday was about the same as what it had been when I weighed in last Monday. I decided to go with 2 days of Phase 1 (South Beach Diet) on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, I went out to eat with my mom and my sister. My mom had a bacon cheeseburger with tator tots and coconut cream pie. My sister had a chicken fried steak sandwich with french fries. I had a grilled chicken sala... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 11:04:59 EST How do you motivate? We started a challenge for February on the Positive Vibes team. Part of the challenge is to motivate others on the team by leaving messages on their spark page and/or giving them goodies. This is one of the best parts of the challenge to me. I have had so much interaction with team members this week. It has made me feel so good to give out goodies, and hear back from friends on the team that I haven't been in contact with for a while. It is so motivating!
Truthfully, it really makes... Fri, 3 Feb 2012 10:57:42 EST Making time for yourself...... Do you ever feel like you don't think you will have even 5 minutes for yourself? I feel that lots of times especially during my work day. However, I have found that my day goes much better when I take that 5, 10, 15 or longer for myself.

I started this challenge on the Positive Vibes team because I wanted to see more activity on the team. Then after I started it, I thought of all the things I had to get accomplished this month. Then I thought.....Great! now I have to do this ... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 11:40:03 EST Things I did right..... Yesterday was a better day nutritionally for me. I stayed focused on what I was eating, and didn't eat any Halloween candy. I went to the gym and did strength training and 30 minutes walk/run on the treadmill. I didn't overeat last night. All in all a pretty good day.

Now for today.......popcorn day for our customers that I need to stay away from. Other employees keep filling that Halloween candy bowl, and I need to stay away from that also. Hope everyone has a great Friday! Fri, 7 Oct 2011 10:47:28 EST It's time to be more focused on what I need to be doing. "Your time is limited... so don't waste it living someone else's life." -- Steve Jobs. Another Spark member posted that quote in a blog.

I was so sad to hear about his passing. From everything that I have read about him, he was such an amazing person. He accomplished so much in his life. After I read the quote, I thought I need to stop wasting time. There are some days that I do great on staying on track on my eating. Then I'll have a setback. I take one step forward and two... Thu, 6 Oct 2011 14:03:35 EST I Dodged a Bullet........ If you read my last blog, then you know about my struggle to not drink Diet Coke. I gave it up on August 15.....

Last night, I had to take my daughter to Academy to get some shoes for a dance class. We decided to go to Chick-Fil-A for dinner. As I was placing my order, I was looking at the drink choices. For about 3 seconds I really considered having a diet coke, but then ordered an unsweetened tea. After that first sip of tea which I sweetened with Truvia that I always carry ... Tue, 13 Sep 2011 11:48:25 EST My Love.....Hate Relationship with Diet Coke I have been a Diet Coke addict for probably 30 years. For brief periods of time I switched from Diet Coke to other Diet drinks (Diet Pepsi, Diet Dr. Pepper, etc.) A few times I have tried to kick the habit of drinking Diet Coke. My DH has told me repeatedly that it's not good for me, causes cancer, and other similar statements to get me to stop drinking it. I just couldn't stop drinking it because I loved the taste of it so much. I'm not a coffee drinker so I would drink a Diet Coke as s... Fri, 2 Sep 2011 11:19:14 EST Size 8? I went to Wal Mart yesterday to do some grocery shopping. I've needed to get some black dress capris. The ones I have have darts in the front, and I really don't like that about them. It seems to accent my "muffin top". So I wanted some with more of a flat front. Wal Mart had some that were called "London Fit". I guess that means they sit lower on the waist with straight legs. I thought these look okay. They had them in every size but a size 10 which is the size I have been in for a w... Sat, 23 Jul 2011 10:13:18 EST 17 DD - C1D4 I am down 5.8 pounds since I went back on Cycle 1 of the 17DD. I have a hard time remembering about the green tea and the warm lemon water. This morning I had the warm lemon water around 10:00 because that's when I remembered, and I haven't had any green tea yet today. I went to the gym 3 times this week. On Tuesday, I walked/ran on the treadmill for 20 minutes; Wednesday -- elliptical for 30 minutes then 20 minutes ST; Thursday -- 30 minutes on the elliptical. I was wanting to try a kefi... Fri, 3 Jun 2011 16:43:14 EST My Virtual 5K Saturday I walked/jogged my way through my Virtual 5K. My time was 51 minutes.

I did it on a treadmill at the gym. It may have ended up a little different if it were outside. I don't really have anyplace outside to walk/jog. I live in a rural area, and there are too many gopher holes and/or stickers to do it on our property. If I run on the road, there's too much traffic. I was okay with my time, but I would like to do a little better....maybe 40-45 minutes for the 5K. I'l... Mon, 11 Apr 2011 11:06:11 EST 5K Your Way - Walk/Jog Program So I'm in week 4 of the Walk/Jog Program. This week I have to do circuits of walking 2 minutes and then jogging for 2 1/2 minutes. Last week my scheduled circuits were walking for 3 minutes and then jogging for 2 minutes. I was walking (on the treadmill) at a rate of 3.3 - 3.5 and then jogging at a rate of 4.3 - 4.5. Yesterday when I did the first one of this week I still walked at the same rate but I slowed down my jogging to around 4. That worked out pretty good, but I think I'll speed... Mon, 28 Mar 2011 14:21:00 EST Walk/Jog....Session 3 Today was my third session with the Walk/Jog program. I had to go 30 minutes today 6 intervals of walking 4 minutes and jogging 1 minute. I did it at the gym on the treadmill. The treadmills there are so much better than the one I have at home. I am honestly afraid to speed mine up for a jog speed. I enjoyed the intervals at the gym though. I also did 30 minutes on the elliptical. Right now I am doing a 19 minute mile. At this rate when it is time for me to do my virtual 5K it should ... Sat, 12 Mar 2011 23:38:32 EST 5K Your Way - Walk/Jog Program - 2nd session Yesterday was to have been my second session on the Walk/Jog Intervals. It is a 25 minute workout 4 minutes walking then 1 minute jogging. This interval is then repeated 4 more times. My plan was to do the workout on the treadmill at the gym. I went to the gym after work noticed there was no one on the ellipticals, and grabbed it. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. Then I left and went home.

It wasn't until I got home that I realized I didn't do the walk/jog session. By ... Fri, 11 Mar 2011 10:51:37 EST 5K Your Way - Walk/Jog Program - Day 1 I joined a challenge for 5K Your Way - Walk/Jog Program, and yesterday was day 1. The plan for yesterday was a 25 minute workout. Walk 4 minutes; jog 1 minute and then repeat that 4 more times for a total of 25 minutes.

I didn't have my gym bag in the car, and with the price of gas so high, I decided to do this workout in our vineyard. I wasn't too excited about that part, but I wanted to get started with the program. Our vineyard rows are 500 feet long and I ended up go down... Wed, 9 Mar 2011 12:32:43 EST 4 Step Plan to Handle Anger Our minister had a very interesting sermon yesterday on anger. He went into what causes anger and how we should handle it. We all have triggers ---- things that set off our anger. His four step plan was:
1. Know your triggers
2. Think before you speak
3. Have a plan
4. Practice forgiveness

Right now a lot of my triggers have to do with my 14 yo daughter. She can't understand why I can't (or in her opinion won't) buy her everything she wants. This weeken... Mon, 7 Mar 2011 11:13:10 EST Mental Fat vs. Body Fat This is an exercise that I found on the internet. The first thing you have to do is to write down your goals which is something that we do anyway on Spark. Then you have to write down a list of your "Helpful Habits", and then you have to write down a list of your "Self-Destructive Habits". That is the really hard thing to do. You have to really think about them. Then you have to start working on the Self-Destructive Habits not all at once, but one at a time. Once you rid yourself of som... Fri, 4 Feb 2011 12:26:10 EST Kettleworx
I have this DVD series called Kettleworx. It's supposed to transform your body in 6 weeks. lol
You need to eat a healthy diet and do 3-20 minute workouts each week. Each week you do a core, resistance and cardio workout. There are some other DVDs that you can also workout to also. I have a 5 lb. kettlebell and a 10 lb. kettlebell. I already had the Jillian Michaels kettlebell DVD, and also Amy Bento that I had ... Wed, 26 Jan 2011 11:22:26 EST Good to be back in the 150's..... I weighed in this morning this morning, and I was at 158.8! It's been a while since I have been in the 150's. I just want to keep the scale going down.

I had a church Halloween party tonight, and they just had hot dogs and chips to eat. I think I did okay though. My daughter won a cheesecake in the cakewalk so I just need to steer clear of that.

Thanks for everyone for their support. You guys didn't let me lose heart, and encouraged me to keep trying. Now.....on... Mon, 25 Oct 2010 22:35:39 EST It was only .4 pound loss..... I stepped on the scale today, and it was a little bit of a loss (.4), but I was so excited. Last Monday I started out at 162.4 (depressing). Then on Wednesday is was up to 163 (more depressing). Then Thursday I was doing better, I was down to 160.6, then Friday I was up to 160.8. Then yesterday I was down to 160.4. All this yo yoing (lose, gain, lose, gain it was driving me crazy!)

Then this morning was down to 160 exactly. I am so ready to be back in the 150's, and I feel tha... Sun, 24 Oct 2010 23:13:58 EST Any Chalean Extreme Advice??? This week I restarted the Chalean Extreme DVD program. Today was the day according to the schedule I was supposed to do Intervals and Ab Burner. I ran out of time, and was only able to do 15 minutes of the intervals, and didn't get to do the Ab Burner at all.

I normally workout to the DVDs in my bedroom. I didn't even get home til 8:15, made myself some oatmeal to eat, changed my clothes, etc, and by then it was around 8:45. Well around 9:00 DH was making noises about going to ... Wed, 13 Oct 2010 22:51:39 EST Reflecting Back..... I was reflecting back on my journal from earlier this year. In February I weighed 10 pounds less than I do now. At the time my workout plan was working out to DVDs in my bedroom. I was probably doing this about 3 or 4 times per week. Then in March I joined the gym. I have been consistent with going to the gym most weeks for 4-5 days per week. Elliptical for at least 30 minutes. and strength training a couple of times per week.

I don't know but I think subconsciously I think t... Sat, 9 Oct 2010 00:15:21 EST Atkins Advantage Shakes I was looking back over a journal that I had from January through April of this year. I was 7-8 pounds lighter than I am now. This was before I joined the gym so I know my exercise was a little different than it is now.

That got me thinking to go back and look at my Nutrition log for that time period. At the time I was drinking Atkins Advantage shakes 1-2 meals per day. Sometimes that would be my entire meal or sometimes I would drink one along with string cheese. My calories ... Wed, 22 Sep 2010 22:52:00 EST Kettlebell I bought a Danskin 10 pound kettlebell, and it came with a DVD. The DVD has three workouts on it. I did the warm up and the first workout which was about 10 minutes. Some of the actions which were swinging it up and holding it were kind of hard. I'm thinking maybe I need an 8 pound one. Tomorrow I think I'll try the second workout which is 15 minutes.

I think I'm really going to like the workout. Has anyone else tried it, and do you have any Kettlebell DVDs you can recommend? Fri, 10 Sep 2010 23:17:56 EST In a holding pattern....... I seem to be in a holding pattern. You know what I'm talking fact, I'm sure a lot of you have been there. I lose a few pounds, then I gain them back. I guess I was doing better probably in the spring. I was able to stay focused, I was exercising consistently, and I was eating within my range. Then I stopped focusing on some of the team challenges, I wasn't posting much on the boards, etc. I think those things are all important, and I need to get back to where I was.
... Fri, 3 Sep 2010 14:22:24 EST He was a great man! I just heard earlier this evening that my second cousin passed away. He was such a sweetheart. He had been in the hospital for a few weeks, and I'm so glad I got the opportunity to go see him a couple of times. He had several things wrong with him so the outlook wasn't very good, but he still had a positive attitude and a smile on his face.

I guess the saddest part about it was that when his son called my dad to let him know of his passing that my dad didn't even call me to le... Wed, 14 Jul 2010 00:09:52 EST House appraisal, etc. So we have to have our house appraised for a refi on our mortgage. Thursday evening I took DD to her play practice, and I got home about 9:15. Then I started making banana bread because I had bananas that were getting pretty old. Then about 10:30 DH said he was going to bed. I was waiting for the bread to get done. About 5 minutes later he came out of the bedroom, and said BTW they are coming by the house the next day (Friday) to appraise the house. Now the house wasn't really messy, bu... Sun, 11 Jul 2010 23:44:23 EST Hectic Schedule I went to the gym on my lunch hour today, and got in 20 minutes on the elliptical. That was a good thing. I just have so much going on at work and at home right now, and I think it is stressing me out. I have a report that's due by the end of the month that I have to do every quarter. Part of it has to be done by our Board of Directors meeting next week though. I have a few loans for customers that I am working on, and some other projects that need my attention. At home DD is in a play ... Thu, 8 Jul 2010 14:06:24 EST No Workout Today.... It was pouring down rain when I got off work today. I didn't want to make more stops than normal by stopping by the gym to get on the elliptical. I decided to do it at home. Well that didn't happen either. I put in the Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout with Jillian. I did about 10 minutes but that's it. I'm so disappointed in myself, but my heart just wasn't in it. I'm not losing heart though.....I've already decided I'm going by the gym tomorrow on my lunch hour. I'm determined to ge... Thu, 8 Jul 2010 00:03:00 EST Elliptical Time?
I have a pretty busy evening ahead of me once I get off work. Cook supper, take daughter to play practice, end of month reports for our winery, help DH design a new wine label.......I plan on hitting the gym after work, but I won't have a great deal of time for that. I decided to go on my lunch hour for a little elliptical time.

I got to the gym, there was no one there....yes.....I would have my pick of the ... Tue, 6 Jul 2010 14:43:15 EST Had a great weekend! My son was home this weekend for the first time in about 2 years. I also met his girlfriend and her little boy. I really enjoyed spending time with him and meeting her and her little boy. I'm just sad that they didn't have more time to spend with us. We did have a cookout yesterday even though it rained off and on all day yesterday, we were still able to cookout and shoot off fireworks. We have around 30 people at the cookout. The last of the people left at midnight last night. Back to... Tue, 6 Jul 2010 00:34:19 EST LOSE 25 POUNDS IN 5 MONTHS Every month I put down a goal to lose 5 pounds that month……then life happens. The beginning of May I was at 155.8 so right now I should be almost at 150.8, right? Nooooo! I weighed in this morning, and I was at 162. The scale didn’t surprise me all that much; in fact, I was expecting to be over 160. All the same, I did have the feeling of being let down, even depressed. I have had a lot of things interfere with my life, which gave me a good excuse to eat too much and the wrong things. <B... Mon, 24 May 2010 12:36:33 EST Update on "Black Bean Brownies" If you read my blog from a few days ago, I was planning on making Black Bean Brownies. I didn't get around to it that day. Tomorrow we are having a Nacho Luncheon at work, so I decided I would make the Black Bean Brownies, because that would be something healthy I could eat. I also made some regular brownies to take. I took just a small taste of the black bean brownies. All that I can say is that either this was a bad, bad recipe or it's an acquired taste. Either way the black bean brow... Fri, 14 May 2010 00:00:42 EST Things I have learned this week.... I have been reading a series of books by Rick Gallop.....The GI Diet, Living the GI Diet, The GI Diet Clinic. He categorizes foods as either green light, yellow light or red light. There are two phases; Phase 1 is for losing weight; Phase 2 is for maintenance. He recommends only weighing once a week, try to only eat green light foods. He also says not to drink caffeine because it causes a spark to your blood sugar. He also says that fitness should be part of weight loss, it shouldn't be t... Sun, 9 May 2010 01:46:43 EST I have all the tools available.... I have all the tools available to stay on track and lose weight, so why am I lacking. I have this great website to log my fitness and nutrition. I have the message boards and spark friends to keep me motivated. I have a fitness and a calorie calculator that I carry in my purse. So why do I keep veering off course? I guess if I really knew the answer to that one, I would be so skinny and fit. lol

Am I so comfortable at this weight that I don't want to get out of my "comfort zo... Thu, 8 Apr 2010 11:23:24 EST Still More Work To Do,,,,, I went shopping today, and the one thing I noticed with everything I tried on was that my main problem area is still my muffin top. I have been really pleased with my fitness since I have started going to the gym. I was not pleased with what I was seeing in the mirror though. lol This is a slow process, and I can't give up. I just have to keep doing the cardio and strength. Sat, 3 Apr 2010 23:12:24 EST Good Friday! I just want to wish everyone a Good Friday and a Happy Easter. If you read my blog from yesterday, I was really retaining water due to some ham that I ate on Wednesday evening. I'll be watching my sodium this weekend so that it won't be so bad. Thanks for all your suggestions spark friends! Fri, 2 Apr 2010 10:39:43 EST Too Much Salt!!!! We had our Easter dinner at church last night. It was ham plus a variety of side dishes as well as desserts. First of all I ate way too much, plus I ate a good portion of ham. This morning I got up with swollen ankles, and I couldn't move my ring at all. So today I drank 14 cups of water, and the swelling is somewhat down.

Tomorrow we're having a dinner at work....ham again, and then Sunday Easter dinner, ham again. Ugh! I love ham, but I know I will retain water. Any sugg... Thu, 1 Apr 2010 22:43:04 EST My Weekend Away..... I have two sisters…1 older and 1 younger. The younger sister’s birthday is today. So for her birthday we went away for the weekend. We have a weekend house that’s about 45 minutes away from where I live. We were supposed to meet at my house at 10:00 Saturday morning so that we could all go together. I got up at 6:45 and ran to the gym for about an hour so that I could get some cardio in before we left. They were running late, so we didn’t actually leave until about 12:30. My youngest... Mon, 13 Jul 2009 14:57:16 EST End of Week 1 As I blogged last week, my challenge was to lose 2 pounds a week until August 1, then I would be at my goal weight. Then I thought OMG now I've blogged on this, and asked my spark friends to give me a swift kick if I don't keep up. I want to lose the 2 pounds a week, but I also want to learn where I am making my mistakes when I don't lose weight. So this morning when I weighed I was 148 - last Friday I was 148.8.
