My youngest daughter, Debra works for Community Care Alliance as a Social Worker. She works with parents who have temporarily lost custody of their children to help them get to a point where they are able to have their children returned to them. The program covers a... Sat, 17 Oct 2015 07:14:04 EST Retirement June 17th I turned 68. Now, I don't feel old but my body does after 8+ hours on my feet lifting and moving heavy bolts of fabric all day. I am looking forward to finally retiring on June 25th at 5PM (my last shift working at JoAnns). The last couple of months have been very difficult seeing so many of my co workers, who I have been working with for the last 9 years leaving one by one and the new management trying to establish itself. It has not been an easy transition and the few long tim... Wed, 29 Oct 2014 21:32:01 EST Carol, a child and then a woman, who never gave up My oldest daughter, Carol, really inspires me. When she was born my husband and I were so happy. As she grew she was always a very happy and social child. She was a very early walker and loved social involvement so much she hated to go to sleep afraid she might miss something. When she started pre-school I had some concerns academically but the teachers were not concerned because socially she was fine. She always had trouble with time and when she was out playing if her friend had to go ... I haven't walked this event for all 26 yrs but have walked for the last 4 years. This walk is held every year to help raise money for not only shelter for families who are facing having no place to live but to offer other programs to help with finding jobs and parenting. Sat, 18 Oct 2014 14:44:22 EST LTGL for 5% Spring Challenge As Diane knows and probably most of the SUD team blogging is really not my thing. Not only because I really don't enjoy doing it but because, most days, I just don't have the time.
My day starts anywhere from 4AM - 6AM with time for my morning exercising. Then on Sundays I'm at church by 9AM for choir rehearsal, church then more rehearsal time. MWF Cameron(2 yr old Jun 3) arrives around 7:45AM and is here until 4:30-5PM. On Tu and Thur I go to work which can be as early as 7AM some m... Sat, 24 May 2014 07:39:26 EST Before and after starting SparkPeople Blogging is really not my thing but beacause I need to do this for my WIO challenge here goes.

Before joining SparkPeople I had never given much thought to how or what I was eating or exercising. I had done diets off and on and would lose a little but soon get bored with the restrictive eating and put it all plus more back on. When I went over 200 lbs I finally decided it was time to really look at how to lose weight permenantly and get healthier. Diabetes runs in my family and ... Fri, 11 Oct 2013 14:19:16 EST Thank you Sorry it took so long for me to get back to this blog. Sunday was a very busy day. We started the day out by walking to breakfast then left to go to a PawSox game. Was tired when we came home so just relaxed for a while and then went to bed. Mondays are one of my babysitting day so had to wait for Cameron to go down for a nap.

What I had put in my blog (that disappeared) on Saturday was to thank everyone for all their prayers and toughts on the passing of my Mother-in-law. It ... Mon, 19 Aug 2013 14:18:27 EST to come later just wrote a blog and lost the whole thing
will rewrite it later, sorry Sat, 17 Aug 2013 08:34:58 EST Not much sleep tonight We had a great time Saturday at our annual Brouhaha with my husband's family. Lots of good food and visiting with relatives we only see once a year. I took Sunday off from work because I knew after Saturday I would need to rest. Dick and I did some exercising in the morning and then went out for lunch stopping at Lowe's first for some smoke/fire/CO detectors to replace ones which were not working any longer. When we were on our way home from the restaurant Dick received a cell phone call ... Mon, 12 Aug 2013 05:14:05 EST it's been awhile Couldn't get to sleep so here I am on my Nook trying to write a blog. I realized I haven't written since before my Relay for Life walk. Even though we were one of the smallest teams we raised over $6000 and were 4th out of 30+ teams. I ended up walking just over 20 miles from 5PM Friday - 9AM Saturday. I rested more and ate better this year so was in much better shape at the end than last year. I was the oldest on the team by 20+ years and the only one to stay awake all night. Everyone ... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 00:50:49 EST so much to get done I can harldly believe that next Friday is our relay walk. I have so much to get done before than. Today went shopping at Kohl's since I had a 30% off everything coupon and bought some clothes for Cameron's birthday which is June 3rd but not having his party until June 9th. Also picked up some shorts for Noella to go with her little summer dresses I have to get made. Still working on making more bracelets for the Relay and need to think about food and drinks to bring with me. Has anyone d... Wed, 22 May 2013 14:15:53 EST quiet day slept in (6:15) a little this morning. Cameron was cranky (teething) this morning and fell asleep about 9:30Am. I had planned to take him to the B&N storytime but decided to let him sleep instead. Gave me sometime to look at emails, wash some bottles, and make some bracelets that had been ordered. Now we've had lunch (he liked mine better than his) and he is playing but coming over frequently for some attention. He is growing up too fast so I don't mind the cuddling at all. Plan to get so... Mon, 20 May 2013 13:20:04 EST busy Sunday as usual Sundays are usually my busiest day. Had a little break today as I had asked for the day off from work. We were supposed to have a family party for my Mother in laws 100th birthday but my SIL just had breast cancer surgery a little over a week ago and was not yet feeling up to a party so it was called off. So I went to BJs to do some shopping after church and lunch.
Spent some time watching the Red Sox game but they went into a rain delay in the bottom of the 7th so watched the Bruin... Sun, 19 May 2013 18:07:00 EST count down is on Only 16 more days until the Relay for Life begins. I'm busy making paracord bracelets in cancer awareness colors to be sold at the Relay as one of our final fundraisers. I have made well over 200 so far and have sold quite a few at work and church. Some buy specific colors to represent cancer awareness but others just get colors they like.
Hoping for good weather the next couple of weeks so I can get outside and do some longer walks to get ready. The track is a bit easier to walk o... Wed, 15 May 2013 19:11:59 EST Motivation and moral support needed for May
Again this year I will be participating in the Relay for Life. Last year was my first year and I over did it a little. Partly because it was the first year for the whole team so we were not as organized as we should have been. This year will be different. About 2 weeks after last years event my son-in-law ended up in the emergency room and was diagnosed with Follicular non-hodgkins Lymphoma. Since then he has been ... Wed, 1 May 2013 16:23:10 EST Day 7 - I made it 198 that was hard work but I made it. Blogged and commented on others blogs everyday. Also did well getting my protein in range which was also a challenge.
Thans\ks to everyone who left comments on my blogs. It is only with the support and motivation of you that I have been able to continue on my journey to my final goal. I'm almost there but will continue with SP even after I reach my goal. Fri, 8 Mar 2013 12:31:13 EST Day 6 - protein going well Here I am on Day 6 of this challenge and I have managed to meet my protein goal almost everyday. Looking at my food tracker today I have met every category so far except calories(will need to find another 80 calories somewhere), fat (which is often on the low side), and my fiber is a little low since I'm not eating my regular cereal right now (will have to figure out how to bring this up).
I was up early (4:30AM) this morning so read my email, exercised, had a shower, got dressed for wo... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 14:20:58 EST Day 5 waiting for storm to arrive. I'm supposed to work 10-5 tomorrow and hopefully if the weather is as bad as they are saying it's going to be they will call and tell me to stay home rather then wait until I go in and then send me home early. When I was younger it wouldn't have phased me to drive in bad weather.
OK, day 5 of making sure I take in enough protein went well. This is going really well so far and I hope I can continue it through the rest of this challenge. Wed, 6 Mar 2013 17:08:19 EST Day 4 - not sure how I did haven't put my food in for today yet so not quite sure how I did with the protein.
worked until 5PM and the buzzer just went off to let me know dinner is ready so will have to wait until later. Did the best I could and will edit this blog later when I know the totals.

after entering all my food for the day I was happy to see that I did eat enough protein today
Nice to know but I know I will have to be very concious of this and think about what I'm planning to eat. <em... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 18:43:31 EST 5% challenge Day 3 of blog challenge Didn't quite make my protein goal yesterday but have already put in my food for today and I will make it today. This habit will be a while to accomplish as an everyday happening but I will stick with it. Mon, 4 Mar 2013 13:55:51 EST Day 2 of this weeks blog challenge Have to leave for church soon and then to work until 7:30PM.
wanted to get my blog done before I left for the day so I wouldn't forget
Yesterday went well and I did manage to get enough protein in. Today may be a little more of a challenge as we are having a baby shower at work with a potluck but I'm going to bring a greek yogurt and a protein bar with me as back up.
Sun, 3 Mar 2013 08:38:33 EST 5% Winter into Spring Blog challenge - new Habits??? I really don't like to blog (as others do). Mostly it's a time issue. I work Sun, Tues, Thurs and babysit for my 9mo old grandson Mon, Wed, and Fri. That leaves me Sat to get any errands and chores I need to get done which can't be done during the week.
I have a very physical job and was working the closing shifts but have changed to the day shift for Tues and Thurs so I would be able to get to bed earlier.
I had been doing well with my eating, exercise and water until after th... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 13:06:11 EST Long year It has been a long year. Haven't been doing so well since the Fall 5% challenge ended. My eating and exercising is all off especially over the holidays. Know I have gained weight. Have been feeling really tired and just can't get myself up and moving in the mornings. Babysitting MW and F and working STu and Th has been difficult especially working the 1-9:30PM shifts on Tu and Th so this week I put in an availibilty change at work letting them know that I would not be available to work a... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 21:31:46 EST Long overdue vacation Had a great time on my vacation to Pawley's Island, SC. Returned home yesterday about 4PM.

Enjoyed being able to relax and not worry about anything but I did put on a few pounds due to not exercising as much and eating more than usual. Now it is time to get back on track.
The weather was beautiful although it did get chilly the end of the week.

Glad to be back home and have my Wii available again. Looking forward to the start of the Fall 5% challenge. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 20:30:57 EST summer WIO Challenge - Dare We had to find, make and take a picture of a recipe from
I had to find one that I could make from things I already had.
This one intrigued me when I saw it so I chose French Toast waffles.
Had to tweak it alittle since it was for 6 servings.

Fri, 31 Aug 2012 09:19:55 EST Prayer Quilt finished for Jason (my SIL) I was finally able to finish the Prayer quilt for Jason (my SIL). He will be having his 3rd Chemo treatment next week (9/6). So far he is doing well. Had to finally give up on holding onto his goatee as it was coming out in clumps.
When I first started making this quilt I was worried I wouldn't have enough pictures for it but actually ended up with too many and had to decide which ones to include.
I started a 2 week trial in Spark Coach which will end just before I leave for ... Mon, 27 Aug 2012 10:26:43 EST Today, I Promise I will not quit "Today, I promise I will not quit.

I pledge that no matter, how many ups and downs I pass through, I will continue on my journey.

I pledge to make a NEW START today, and forgive myself for my past, and to stop being so critical of myself.

I pledge to take control of myself, to stop making excuses, and stop blaming other people or situations.

I pledge to treat myself as I would my best friend, because that is who I am.

I pledge to sta... Fri, 3 Aug 2012 07:55:24 EST 1st Chemo treatment handled well My SIL had his first Chemo treatment today. Started at 9AM and they didn't get back to pick the kids up until 5PM. They said they take the first one very slow because some people have a reaction to the meds but my SIL handled it well. The rest of the treatments shouldn't be quite that long. Haven't had too much time to work on his quilt yet but have picked out the fabrics and have most of the pictures printed out. Will have some time to work on it tomorrow until I have to go babysit Noe... Thu, 26 Jul 2012 17:25:29 EST SIL's chemo starts next week My son-in-laws chemo is scheduled to start on Thursday provided everything goes OK with his tests earlier in the week. Monday he will go in to have the port put in. Tuesday and Wednesday he will be meeting with the nurses who will be administering the chemo for classes on exactly what will be happening and what to expect, having blood work done and a heart test to make sure everything is fine with his heart.
Thursday I will be taking care of Evan and Ryan and dropping off and picking ... Thu, 19 Jul 2012 09:50:36 EST Update on my Son-in-law My daughter called tonight and said they have the test results back and will be going to meet with the Dr tomorrow to discuss the results and the treatment. My SIL will have to have some additional tests to make sure his heart and other organs are healthy enough to withstand the treatment. If all goes well the Dr wants to begin treatment on Monday.
Julia has Intensive Ballet camp so they will drop her off there and then bring Evan and Ryan to my house. Tue, 17 Jul 2012 20:51:31 EST still waiting We are still waiting for test results to come back on my son-in-law.
The Drs are convinced it is some form of Lymphoma since everything else was ruled out but cannot begin treatment until they know what type it is as this will determine what chemo treatment he will recieve. The good news is that they feel it was caught very early and has not spread to any other part of his body. Will update when we know anything new. Mon, 16 Jul 2012 17:51:51 EST Prayers needed for my son-in-law My son-in-law was admitted to the hospital yesterday and is waiting to have a biopsy done today. Please pray that the findings will be benign or if not that it will be something treatable. My daughter is trying to stay positive for the kids but it is difficult not knowing what the outcome will be. This is a very busy weekend for us and we are trying to keep things as normal as we can so we don't worry the kids too much. Hopefully later today I will have good news to share.

Late... Sat, 7 Jul 2012 07:51:10 EST Relay for Life Jun 15 - 16th Well, I survived (I think). Started walking when I started. After the sun when down the temps started to drop and went down to the upper 40's(glad I had thrown my winter coat in the car but forgot to bring a blanket). It was very chilly and heavy dew so everything was wet. Had bought my zero gravity chair with me hoping to use it for a little bit of rest off and on but it was wet and didn't really want to lay down on it. Also was afraid if I did lay down I wouldn't want to get up again s... Sat, 16 Jun 2012 20:22:44 EST Thinking a lot about my Mom today My mom would have been 87 today. She passed away 2 years ago but I still think about her often and how much I miss her. She had a lot of health problems but continued to work until she was 83 and had a stroke. She worked hard and managed, after a year and a half in a nursing home to recover enough to move into an Assisted living apartment. I'm glad she had the chance to do that but unfortunately it only lasted a month before she had another more serious stroke which she didn't recover fro... Tue, 12 Jun 2012 17:46:34 EST WIO Summer Challenge Double Dare I read the article and they had some good points. Went out for a 45 minute walk this afternoon. Usually most of my walking is on WIO or at work. You can't avoid hills in the area where I live and while going up is more work and I have to slow down going down is worse because I'm always afraid I'm going to fall. I saved trying to walk backwards and sideways for the driveway. I don't have a dog or a pool nearby so both those suggestions were not available. Fri, 8 Jun 2012 20:22:09 EST Early morning walk Got up at my usual time (5:45AM) this morning and instead of doing my Wii Fit exercising I went on a nice 4 mile walk with my DH. He usually runs part of the way so sometimes I was by myself. The morning was beautiful and I had my MP3 player so I could listen to some music while walking. It took me about 65 minutes to finish the walk and I was tired by the end especially when we had to go up the last two hills to get back home.
After we got back home I did some stretching then showere... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 09:39:25 EST Thursday 1/19 Found a little time to blog today but tomorrow will be a bigger challenge. Can't believe I have posted a blog everyday so far.
Back to work this afternoon (2-9:30PM). Hoping it is busy at work as when it's slow it's boring and the time just drags. I think we should have freight to put away as the truck usually comes on Thursday unless it was changed because of the holiday on Monday but won't know that until I get there. Thankfully my job is not a desk job so I get to do a lot of walk... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 09:36:46 EST Wednesday 1/18 Well the big blogger that I am I'm running out of things to say.
This is my last day off from work so it may be difficult for me to get the LTGL done Thursday and Friday. Have to get my exercising all done tomorrow morning as I'm on the closing shift Thursday and then they have me working 9-5 on Friday. I really hate closing one day and then working a long day shift the next. It takes me a while to unwind when I get home from work so I don't usually get in bed very early and then I wi... Wed, 18 Jan 2012 12:12:10 EST Tuesday 1/17 Lazy Day Another day off and getting bored. Slept late this morning (didn't get up until after 8AM).
Did my exercising, ate breakfast then sat down to read my emails. Put a wash in while I was on the computer and before I knew it it was noontime. Heated up some leftovers for lunch and watched the News and played a game on my Nook. Did some WIO for an hour and back on the computer again. Think I'll go read the paper now and then it will be time to start getting dinner ready. Tue, 17 Jan 2012 16:20:40 EST Monday 1/16 Have a few days off now so will have plenty of time for exercise. Need to do a few errands but will be able to decide when and what I want to do. Did some exercising already but had to get off the Wii for my DH to have a turn before he went to work. Have several Wii challenges going on so need to get back on now and do some of them then will spend some time reading and sewing. Also have some housework to do. It's too cold to go out so will probably spend most of my time inside today. Ha... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 09:48:30 EST Sunday 1/15 Sundays are my long days. I get up at 6AM to exercise. Then I shower, get dressed, eat breakfast then leave for choir rehersal. After church we have choir rehersal again and then I go to work. Today was very busy at work. Was supposed to get off at 7PM but stayed later to help get everything put away and clean up. Finally got home about 8PM. I'm tired now so I'm going to go lay down, watch a little TV then go to sleep. Tomorrow will be better and I'll have more time. Sun, 15 Jan 2012 21:04:18 EST Saturday 1/14 I read so many great blogs this morning and this is the first day where blogging is our LTGL challenge for the week.
I really don't like blogging and this will be a difficult thing for me to do all week.
I started doing the 5% challenges because I was at a standstill with my weightloss and was looking for something to get me going again. Exercising has become a habit for me and I exercise first thing every morning. Even if I have to be at work earlier than usual I will set the ala...
