However, after calling my swim friend who is also a childhood friend, we decided to skip everything and drive to the beach to pick up the Senior National Park Pass for $10.00. It paid for itself as we visited Fort Clatsop. Then we drove out on the beach. I even got out and got in the ocean. This is all going though my mind as the son of a close friend grapples with his choices and his health at a hospital in a mental ward.

Nurturing loved ones can be an honor and a privilege. As young people we think we are invincible. We work a job, or two, go to college and party all night. A toll is exacted and we learn to moderate and to simplify our lives. However, what if that ... Then he called his parents and told them where he was and that he had called police. The police transported him to hospital and he admitted himself for five days. I can't imagine what battles he was mentally fighting, but I am grateful for two things. Even in the dark haze he sought help. He never turned to drugs to fix his problems. Continued prayers. Tonight on Facebook one of my best friend's son posted goodbye letters to each of his children. I left messages on both her and her husband's phone. I correctly guessed that since neither answered the phone that they were on it. I spent the next hour praying fervently. He is okay and on their farm. Buddy probably walked 5 miles. The river was calm, but it was raining and there was sleet mixed in so I wore two coats, a scarf, my day pack with purse and letterboxing stuff in it and used the walking poles.
