GPENSRAE's SparkPeople Blog GPENSRAE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Crossfit I am hooked! Absolutely. Positively. Hooked. By accident I came across a crossfit workout while perusing pinterest earlier this week. My interest was peeked since it incorporated running, thus I "pinned" the workout and tonight I completed it. Loved. It. I mean I absolutely positively freaking loved it! Nothing complicated, nothing where I wanted to die, just intense fitness that was FUN!

Here is what I did (I'll post the link when I get to my computer, I'm on my kindle right now)... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 22:41:37 EST Running For about a week I was really slacking on running. I was still finding time to workout, but it was easier with the recent cold front to work out to a DVD in my living room rather than getting all dressed, warming the car and driving to my parents (a whopping two miles) to run on their treadmill. I even attempted to get dressed up and run outside, but with -30 degree windchill (colder than Alaska has been the last few weeks) and the snow packed and icy driveway, I just couldn't do it.
<... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 09:07:38 EST I can't describe the feeling For the most part PCOS has been this incredibly overbearing obstacle to overcome. The constant struggle with weight gain, the carbohydrate cravings, lack of a regular period....and those are just the few that i struggle with. There are so many other symptoms and complications that others struggle with every single day. But Thursday, this changed.

Never before have I had a normal menstrual cycle without assistance from prescription drugs in the form of fertility meds, birth control... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 13:22:12 EST Review of Amy Dixon's Breathless Body 2 So I sort of went a little workout DVD happy on Amazon last week, and today I broke open Amy Dixon's Breathless Body 2. All I can say is that this DVD is HARD! In fact I was shocked at how difficult it was. I can run 5 miles like a champ, but this literally left me gasping for air multiple times during the DVD. Side note, I do not have her first Breathless Body, and even ignored a review on Amazon stating that it's definitely a step up etc. Anyways, what I really liked about it was she had a ... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 22:04:40 EST December 14th Yesterday.... It was my 31st birthday and I attended a payroll conference for work. After the conference I headed straight home as it was a 3 hour drive. I listened to my Sirius radio the entire drive. When I got home I picked up my kids from grandma's, and headed home to the husband. As we were as a family doing the usual "get ready for bed" routine that consists of two hungry boys, a dog that is annoyed by all the noise, pots boiling, oven timers probably get the picture now..... Sat, 15 Dec 2012 15:09:54 EST As promised, pictures! Not a lot to write about, it's been a quite few days after the storm. I tried to go running Sunday but it was so unbelievably cold outside I gave up after 15 minutes. I had ice on my eye lashes, couldn't feel my hands and feet, and my face mask was actually frozen from my breathe. Awesome right? Not so much...

Well as promised, here are some pictures of the boys!

Lane Turns One!

<img sr... Tue, 11 Dec 2012 00:10:56 EST Stormy Saturday! I woke up this morning to some snow falling! Yes!!! Just what I needed to finally start getting into the holiday mood! I quickly changed into my running clothes and out the door I went for a 30 minute run. It was some slow miles with the wind and the snow, but I was toasty other than my hands. The fleece gloves I wrote about before...yea...not warm in 16 degree snowy weather. Will be upgrading those pronto. 2.16 miles in 30 minutes. Pathetic time, but I'm more proud of the fact I got out and ... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 13:42:41 EST Running Tips I am no where near an expert runner, but here are a few simple tips I have that I have found to make running easier.

If you don't know, I live in North let's be honest, running outside in ND in December=freaking cold! One of the best tips I have for getting up and making myself go for a run is to throw my work out clothes in the dryer for a few minutes. I pull on toasty workout cloths and out the door I go. By the time they have cooled down I have pretty warmed up and... Sun, 2 Dec 2012 12:50:11 EST Sister day! Yay for sister time! My mom agreed to watch Laner and Amanda (sissy) and I headed off to watch Breaking Dawn part 2. It was good! But I will say that the first Twilight is still my favorite! This one had some humor though whereas the others really didn't...I did like that. After the movie we did a little shopping and I helped her "spruce up" her wardrobe. She'd tell you that she got the hair and I got the fashion (it's true!). A few hours later and a quick pit stop at the grocery store for mi... Sat, 24 Nov 2012 22:02:00 EST Carrie Underwood It's the day after Thanksgiving, and Lane, aka "Laner", and I were supposed to drive to my in laws to meet up with husband and Cale, but Laner was not feeling good, so we decided to hang out at home. Although I'm missing the hubs and Cale, I'm glad that I did not subject Lane (or myself) to a five hour car ride with one crabby soon to be one year old! Oy!

Lane was up at 6 am fussing with his cold, but in doing that he took one big ole nap mid morning into the afternoon. I took adv... Fri, 23 Nov 2012 22:56:42 EST Weekly Goal Summary I did it! Granted I had to improvise a few times, but all in all, super happy with my progress. I am down 3 lbs from the start of the week and most importantly, I feel better!

Here is what last posted:
Sunday: Drink 8, 8 oz. glasses of water. DONE! + 5 mile bike ride along with a 20 minute walk with the stroller!
Monday: Plan dinner so I'm not flying by the seat of my pants come 6 pm when I get home. DONE - we had leftovers from Sunday.
Tuesday: Walk with the boys a... Sun, 5 Aug 2012 12:14:07 EST Update on weekly goals I am a pretty happy girl, I have managed to stick with every one of my goals for the week and it's Wednesday! I really struggle with time management, especially after having Lane last November. I'd rely on someone else to watch the kids while I worked out most of the time; which let's be honest, is a pain in the arse! B and Cale our out of town this weekend and I've been doing a lot of walking with Lane in the stroller, and suddenly it hit me this morning and I had to ask myself...why oh why have I not used the stroller more?!? Plus, Cale rides his bike now and LOVES it, so why in the heck did it not... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 11:47:51 EST Short and quick blog! I hit a wall on Wednesday, I stopped tracking outside of my head, stopped trying to hit my water goal, I stopped basically everything and the only reason why is because it's hard and a lot of work to do this. Not an okay reason.

Back to square one, tracking, and my total today is ridiculous so don't look at that. It feels like I have barely ate a stinking thing and I'm already at 710 calories and I haven't even had lunch. EFF! And I can sit here and type this and then know that I... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 13:35:16 EST Two days in a row! Here I am blogging two days in a row! Crazy right?

I tracked every single bite today, holy for a pain, but I cam in 25 calories short of my 1600 goal. SCORE! Looking at my tracker there are a few things I need to work on.
1. I consumed 245 carbs - um...too a lot too much.
2. I need to up protein - I consumed 45 grams.
3. I need to work on water intake, even with almost 8 cups I find myself still thirsty, but I did notice that it seemed to help with m... Mon, 9 Jul 2012 21:47:19 EST Two blogs in one day, whoa! I just finished a blog, but I found that I still felt like getting my thoughts out, so rather than edit I just started a new one.

My schedule for the week:
Monday: Join Elite Fitness, run 2 miles
Tuesday: 45 minute cross training/strength training DVD
Wednesday: run 3 miles
Thursday: Rest, but will walk with the boys in the stroller.
Friday: run 3.5 miles
Saturday: easy 2 mile walk/run
Sunday: rest

Goals for the week:
1. Take m... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 21:36:19 EST Once again, I'm back. We just got back from a 9 day family vacation. Our first ever. Had a blast! I'll definitely say that vacationing with two kids under the age of four is somewhat of a challenge, but we worked together (for the most part) and made it work. Pictures will follow soon!

After my last blog I once again just felt seized with fear, no one could possibly want to read what I had to say, and instantly I quit logging into spark and lost all motivation. The entire trip I just kept telling mysel... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 21:28:40 EST Challenges Life is challenging. In all aspects. A while ago I started a blog outside of spark because I felt like that spark was causing binging, turns out it wasn't spark, it's life. Every single day I am challenged, working (even part time) is HARD when you're a mom. I have the utmost respect for those that can work full time while raising kids. Especially single moms!

I managed to post maybe 2 or 3 times on my blog, and every single day I have thought and even written down my ideas and ta... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 15:08:07 EST Weekend recap Yesterday was anything like I thought it would be. It was a roll with the punches kind of day. Friday night I got a whopping 17 minutes of quiet between the two boys. Yup, 17 minutes. Thank you my sons. Mommy loves you!

Thus Saturday was spent doing little tasks around the house including finally putting away the clothing my sons have outgrown that have been folded on top of Cale's bed. Hard to get the kid to sleep in his own bed when it's covered with clothes huh? I also pulled u... Sun, 5 Feb 2012 16:46:15 EST Review of Banana Bread recipe Let's just say it''s extremely dense. I happen to like my banana bread that way, but I'm unusual. I couldn't taste the cheesecake pudding at all, but the bread is super moist so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. My dad on the other hand loved it, especially since it was heart healthy for him. But then again, he always says that baked goods are like $ex...even when they're bad they're still good. Nice huh? Gotta love my pops!

In a previous blog I talked about Bro... Fri, 3 Feb 2012 12:09:25 EST My Wednesday My Wednesday started off at 5:45 am this morning. Lane woke with hunger pains the size of Texas judging by his screams! By 6:46 all was calm on the home front, Lane was fast asleep in his bouncy chair and Cale was still (by a shear miracle) asleep. So what do I do? I log onto the computer to pay bills. Holy crap did the first of the month sneak up on me! This also marks the countdown to returning to work...20 days left at home.

I quickly paid bills only to have Lane crying again. ... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 16:14:20 EST I'm BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been FOREVER since my last blog post and so much has changed! The biggest change is the addition of our son Lane Michael who was born on November 28th, 2011 weighing in at a whopping 4 lbs. 13 oz. He was incredibly tiny, but oh so perfect! He was born at exactly 35 weeks so I was only able to see him for a moment before he was whisked off to the NICU where he spent 16 days before we were able to bring him home.

Meet Lane!
<img src=" Tue, 31 Jan 2012 16:34:13 EST Bed Rest Well, it's been a few days since the last blog, and MANY days prior to that! As it turns out I was admitted to the local hospital this past Thursday and was released on Friday with transfer to a hospital 3.5 hours away by private car where I was admitted on Saturday. I've been on strict bed rest since only allowed to get up to use the bathroom and shower. I'm not going to say this is easy, in fact this is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. One of the hardest parts is that things... Wed, 23 Nov 2011 17:38:00 EST First blog since July....OY! It has been awhile since I several months! Wow, amazing how fast time flies. I've actually started writing several times, but I either get interrupted or feel like I really have nothing to say that is fitness related so I quit half ways through.

Most know I'm pregnant with my second child, 33 weeks today actually and have been on bed rest since August. I'm not going to hasn't been easy. It started with full bed rest because of a spike in blood pressure, th... Mon, 14 Nov 2011 09:41:50 EST Trials and FAILS in the kitchen I usually don't have a creative bone in my body. No joke.

Last night I had an intense craving for beer. One problem, I'm pregnant so a beer was uh...pretty much out of the question. Here's where the creativity struck...

Side note, I am addicted to food blogs. Absolutely addicted. Oh She Glows
is my favorite. I check it out almost everyday. I lie, it's everyday. Angela has been featuring guest blog posts. Through these posts I di... Sat, 30 Jul 2011 10:23:56 EST Last nights blood sugar and congratulations are in order! was through the freaking roof. I'm pretty sure my exact words when it came up on the screen was "holy f*ck!" It was 192 after dinner, and that was also after exercising and two huge glasses of water to stay hydrated during exercising. It alarmed me so much I called the after hours OB and they said it's definitely too high and to check in with my OB this morning because I either need to increase my meds, or go on insulin shots. Oh joy! Makes me so mad when I am doing everything that I am suppo... Thu, 28 Jul 2011 08:53:38 EST Those with or have had gestational diabetes...HELP Ok ladies, I need some help on this whole gestational thing. Thus far my diabetes educator has told me that a serving of carbohydrate is 15 it, and that I should eat the following ratios.

2-3 servings at breakfast
1-2 servings mid morning snack
3-4 servings at lunch
1-2 servings afternoon snack
3-4 servings at dinner

That is a lot of freaking carbs for someone with PCOS. I process carbs different than most people anyways, and if I follow that... Wed, 27 Jul 2011 16:23:37 EST My first green monster and failed breakfast attempt Yesterday I tried my first ever green monster. I will admit I was skeptical at first, but wowsers was it yummy. You couldn't taste the spinach at all! After reading several other recipes online I combined several and came up with own based on ingredients I had at hand.

1 cup of vanilla almond milk
1 scoop of Unjury Vanilla Protein Powder
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
6-7 frozen cherries
1 tsp of almond extract
1/2 banana
1 handful of raw spinach leaves.... Wed, 27 Jul 2011 09:16:16 EST Small rant So my two sisters and I have decided to throw a surprise 60th birthday party for my dad on the 22nd. We talked briefly last night and made up a short guestlist and I was assigned to making invitiations. Ok...done. I designed them last night and printed them all out etc. etc., only to come in this morning and get a facebook message from my little sister that she already had invited most of the people over facebook. Really??!!??? WTF was the point of me being told to make invitiations, spending... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 08:41:31 EST It's been awhile again I can't believe it's been almost three weeks since my last blog. I used to blog daily, and now it rarely crosses my mind, although I love reading all of my friends blogs!!! So this little update (although kind of long) will be just a hodge podge of updates and happenings in my life.

Since the accident with the semi it's been a lot of time spent on the phone with the insurance company, figuring out where to take my car for repairs, if it's fixable and the rental situation. I'm not ... Sat, 9 Jul 2011 14:55:26 EST Accident Well we have had some excitement here over the last few days. I got home from Billings on Thursday night and late into the evening a semi truck mistook our driveway for a county road. Rather than backing out he decided to try to turn around in our driveway and this is the result...

<img src=" Sun, 26 Jun 2011 15:52:52 EST Major Fail! I forgot to tell everyone about a major fail that took place yesterday on my part. Feel free to make fun...

So with my new found energy I decided to whip up a crockpot pork chop recipe my husband just loves. I guess I do too, it just is so much work to prepare and as long as I'm behing honest, the recipe is from Brandon's mom and well....a naughty part ofm e doesn't want to make it because of that. Yes I am childish. So anyways, I did all the prep work and into the crockpot it goes... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 11:36:37 EST I'm back! After weeks of not feeling well with morning sickness which is a lame term because it lasts all freaking day long, I'm back! I made a committment to another spark friend that I would work out over the weekend, and even though I had to force myself, and by that I mean basically use a cattle prod to get my behind off of the couch, to go for a walk on Saturday, I did it! And holy cows did I feel GOOD. I was going to walk outside but Cale wanted to see Gamma (Grandma) so I walked on her treadmil... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 08:54:58 EST Staying on track even when the going gets tough! It's been awhile, I went from blogging everyday, to every other, to every few weeks. Crazy how quickly things can change! A big thank you to those who have checked in and sent well wishes my way in regards to the morning sickness. Holy cows is it kicking my arsss! I wake up nauseated, nauseated throughout the day, and go to sleep feeling the exact same. I have even been waking up in the middle of the night nauseated which let me tell NOT fun! I've got about three weeks left of the fi... Thu, 26 May 2011 08:58:14 EST It's been awhile It's been over a week since I last blogged so I think another one is way overdo. This is going to be a hodge podge of randomness so feel free to ignore!

Cale and I had a wonderful time in Colorado. The weather was beautiful, mid 80's every day and sunshine. Cale and I were outside ALL the time. I would sit on his godparents patio and read while he played in their garden that hadn't been planted yet. He had scoops, shovels, was adorable! They also had a wiggly caterpil... Fri, 13 May 2011 08:52:33 EST Lots of catching up to do! I've been somewhat MIA since I announced I was pregnant, but lots has been taking place! Friday it was a very gloomy and cold day, it started raining towards the evening and the rain turned into the worst spring blizzard I have ever seen. It knocked out power for three days for us, and there are still people in the area that do not have power. I gotta say, three days without power is about as long as I ever want to experience. To make matters a little worse we had an oil truck stuck at the en... Thu, 5 May 2011 08:42:35 EST I'm pregnant!!!! I tested for pregnancy this morning and it was most definitely positive!!!!!!!! Seeee.....

Went in for blood work early this morning and just talked to the doctor and everything looks good. My hcg level was 66 and my progesterone level was 52.4. Eekkkk!!!!!! It's super early so we're not saying much to anyone at this point and will most likely wait until I'm at least 8-10 weeks along. So for those of you... Thu, 28 Apr 2011 15:21:39 EST Confessions of a chocoholic Hello, my name is Gretta and I am a chocoholic. Seriously, not joking, I have a problem. I had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday, I stayed right on track, was incredibly active taking advantage of the warmer weather with a bike ride with Cale, JM's RI30 Level 3 (it's getting easier whooo hoooo!), and then decided to walk the 1/2 mile and back to the mail box all the while pulling Cale in his wagon. Had a wonderful dinner, healthy, yummy, satisfying. Then, the cravings starts. Chocolate...... Tue, 26 Apr 2011 08:52:47 EST Country Strong Happy belated Easter to everyone! Ours certainly was a not so exciting way if that makes sense. Cale came down with the stomach flu Friday evening, then I got sick Saturday evening. Then Grandma, Auntie, and now daddy is down for the count. This bug is nasty!!! In between Cale getting better and my getting sick, we did manage to squeeze in a fun family Easter dinner. The kids had a great time picking out their candy. Cute story...conversation something like this between me and ... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 13:36:29 EST Feeling crampy....good sign or bad sign... So I'm thinking that could be a good sign...or a very bad sign depending on how I want to look at it, ha ha ha! I was also really nauseated last night but I'm pretty sure that's from my binge last night. I think I have pretty much determined that I either need to:

A. Stop baking entirely because I just don't have the self control not to sample.
B. Make hubby HIDE every single morsel of chocolate in the house.
C. Work out every single evening because the nights I work out... Wed, 20 Apr 2011 09:09:36 EST YouTube and something to be proud of! A coworker that is a fellow fitness "freak" and I mean that in the most endearing way possible, told me I have to check out the workouts she's following on YouTube of Charlie James. CJ also has her own website that I've been reading. Her workouts are intense, that is all I have to say!!!

Last night I did her Hotel Workout for 12 minutes in addition to JM's RI30. OMG I thought I was going to fall over and die! 12 minutes was crazy intense! I mean ... Tue, 19 Apr 2011 11:44:55 EST Training plan for the week and tune suggestions needed! After being down and out with a head cold Tuesday-Friday I finally felt good enough to work out Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's workout was Level 2 of JM's RI30 and Sunday was a quick 1.5 miles. In fact I ran a mile in 12:30 which is the fastest I have done it on the treadmill, and probably would have been faster had I reset it after my 3 minute warm up, but was happy with that after not running for 7 days. The .5 mile after was a mix of walking/running because my throat was hurting and nose ... Sat, 16 Apr 2011 10:12:11 EST Response from yesterday's blog. I'm shocked. I've read blogs written by others where they have talked about receiving hurtful responses and emails about their points of view, thoughts etc. etc., but never have I experienced it until now. I have over 10 emails from people I have never even spoken to on spark that were beyond ridiculous and extremely upsetting. My page isn't private because I treasure every single friend I have made on this site and if my page were private, I doubt I would have ever gotten to know them becaus... Thu, 14 Apr 2011 10:55:16 EST Holy judgement! (and other random thoughts) I am a judgemental person, I've always known this, but wow...lately it's out of control. Most people on here that know me know that my husband and I struggle with infertility due to PCOS. Even as I type that I find myself getting a little bit "angry" at my husband because he doesn't struggle with it, I do. If I told him today that I wanted to stop trying and was perfectly happy with one baby he would be just fine with it, and that just p!sses me off! Yes I know he doesn't mean it in the "I do... Wed, 13 Apr 2011 09:04:32 EST Follicle Update! I had my ultrasound this morning and have good news! I have five on my right ovary, and none on my left so there was probably a difference in techs or something as far as thinking I had one on Friday, but whatever! I have a 16 mm, 15 mm, 15 mm, 13 mm, and a 12 mm. More than like the 16er and the 15er's will be the ones that release as they assume the other two won't have enough time to mature prior to triggering Wednesday morning, but three is good! Leftie apparently hasn't joined the party w... Mon, 11 Apr 2011 19:56:30 EST Follicles! Holy batman I have three follicles on my right ovary, and three-four on my left ovary! About time leftie decided to join the party! Geez!!! Anyways, I go in for an ultrasound Monday at 9:45 to see how they have grown and then we'll trigger based on that. I had no idea but it's possible to ovulate from both ovaries at the same time. I'm still going to just go with the flow and whatever happens happens, but with odds like that, it has to increase my chances somewhat right!?! Hubby kind of freak... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 13:27:42 EST Spring showers bring May flowers right? Maybe?? Woke up this morning to rain, which then turned to sleet and snow, and has now turned back to rain. I went in for my doctor's appointment and the temperature was 45, I left 1/2 hour later and it was 32. When is Spring going to get here????? There goes plans on running outside today, it is a slushy, muddy, cold mess!

Doctor's appointment went good, I have three of four follicles on my left side and three good ones on my right side, all measuring between 8mm-12mm. Smaller than they ... Fri, 8 Apr 2011 13:17:46 EST 2nd Run of the Season outside=Heavenly! I got home last night and even though it was muddy and sprinkling and a little on the chilly side, I headed out for my long run. It was HEAVENLY! Simply divine really. The air smelled of spring....I could see a few greens buds on trees and the smell of the earth was almost intoxicating. I had planned on only doing 2 miles but I couldn't stop at one mile and turn around, I was loving life I tell ya. I ran another 1/2 mile and then had to turn around because it got too sloppy on the gravel road... Wed, 6 Apr 2011 08:53:36 EST VOO (Vegan Overnight Oats) = Yummy Chewy Goodness! I was catching up with all of Oh She Glows blogs and came across a recipe where she combined some VOO with some other ingredients to make a smoothie. Gotta say...didn't sound good at all!
