I have been out of town and feel fairly exhausted. I have been 2 time zones away, so I'm all out of sorts.

I was able to cut some boxwood shrubs and make them look tidy. I pulled some nasty weeds and watered the gardens.

Hubby was busy with a new water-based stain that really covers wonderfully. Mon, 2 Jun 2014 00:57:25 EST Beans Are Growing! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5703398 When I look around my property, it is hard to know where I should rest my eyes. This weekend, I was pleased to see that the green beans are growing. They have unfurled their second pair of leaves. I will need to install something they can grab and 'pull themselves up'.

One Black-eyed Susan is above the dirt. She is the bloom that dares to show all the other "sisters" what to do and how to do it!

More peonies are opening. Little ants are coming to their assistance.... Mon, 26 May 2014 09:56:29 EST Peonies In Full Bloom http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5693842 I work Monday to Friday. This past week was the time my very deep pink peony bloomed and by Saturday when I went to the garden, its petals were all over the ground.

Talk about short-lived blossoms!

I still have two other peonies that have no intention of blooming for quite a while. I will have to be content to wait and watch for them to flower.

Do you like peonies? Tue, 13 May 2014 01:19:50 EST Wonderful Wisteria http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5685335 Tonight, as the sun descended for the day, we took a little stroll around our neighbourhood. Once again, I was surprised by the lovely blossoms that are developing each day while i'm at work.

I noted that the wisteria has just exploded in flowers. It grows four houses away and it has its strangle-hold grip on a lattice topped fence. Imagine delicate purples in a fragile flower. The blooms are heavy and fragrant. It certainly is a show stopper.... or at least a stroll stopper. <... Thu, 1 May 2014 22:55:20 EST Rhodos and Camellia Bushes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5679108 This is the time of year I enjoy feisty red and deep pink bushes in my neighbourhood. The rhododendrons can be tiny or huge bushes and the blossoms are quite large.

Also, I am able to see the camellia plants with their rounder blooms. I seem to see white, pink and fuchsia on these plants.

My walks around are such a delight when I look out for the blossoms! On the Saturday, I never noticed them but on the Sunday, they were brilliant. There are so many heart-shaped blooms that it resembles a charm bracelet.

I was so surprised to see the yellow poppies coming to life also. I think the yellow colour is so cheery.

My garden is really making a early start! Tue, 22 Apr 2014 22:44:12 EST My Slow Poke Phlox http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5671170 I have seen the gorgeous purples of phlox growing around my city. The flowers spill down over rock gardens and retaining walls. At this time of year, it is a beautiful spectacle.

My phlox are still closed and timid. Oh, come on you shy guys!

I enjoy this type of flower that has such a small bloom but because it grows like a "vine" thousands of little flowers become a cluster of brilliant colour. Why do I have such a soft spot for tree? I really don't know.

The pussy willow was a specimen that I got with the purchase of this home. The cherry blossoms are beginning to rain down until there are pink carpets under all the neighbourhood trees.

Many houses have colourful primulas dotting their front gardens. The happy tones of yellow, violet, pinks and white draw my eye and remind me of upcoming Easter celebrations.

My rose bush is sending out tiny shoots to show where all the flowers will be in a few months.

I am impressed by the chives that are growing... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 12:19:35 EST Update on my tomato plants :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5448253 Last week, I shared that little green tomatoes showed brown bottom rot due to extreme heat stress. I had to throw out the sick ones because of a fungus. There is no fun in fungus.

This week, the plants are 5 and 6 feet tall! Will there be any avocados or bean sprouts?

They have the freshest bok choy and sui choy... great if you like cabbage. We make stir fry all the time and these are the basics for that supper.

On the way, I may buy some free range eggs from a farmer in our neighbour... Next week, my Sweet Peas will burst with life and start their climb toward the skies.

The previous owner of my home did a lovely job of planting perennial bushes and trees. I'm just glad I have been able to add my five favourite flowers... Tue, 21 May 2013 10:37:45 EST
