GLOMER's SparkPeople Blog GLOMER's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day 7 Times are getting shorter between my showing up and trying to work it. Been using a Garmin and tracking my food and exercise there. Guess I just like it better here. 7 days to the good so far and feeling better.
My walking partner got sick and we no longer have her with us. Love you Cleo! There is a huge empty spot where you belong but you now have no more pain. So I'm walking in the house with Leslie and her friends. Not as much fun but will get me there.
<img src="http:/... Tue, 17 Jan 2017 13:07:25 EST Day Two Checking in. Lots of snow! Wish I could make snow angels. Working on enthusiasm - two days ok with not eating at night! That is my biggest downfall. Keep going, it is worth it! Going to visit the nursing home folks and see what they need. Lots of folks there my age and not able to do the things I can. Grateful for what I have. Mon, 12 Dec 2016 11:11:04 EST Back again New year coming and same 50 pounds there. I get a little off and then back on. As soon as I start counting, staying focused, and blogging I can get moving in the right direction. So here I am and working on a mind change. Sun, 11 Dec 2016 23:18:11 EST Starting fresh For the past 2 years after my blood clot I shut down. No exercise and minimal enthusiasm have taken over my life. Today I'm working that out. Two days of exercise has helped get me excited again. I want to be able to do the things I want to do, so I'm doing it! Tue, 2 Sep 2014 11:41:44 EST Walking more carefully - oops! Back to the treadmill or walking tapes - today I went out with the dogs and was enjoying my walk and: hit a patch of ice and down I went. Sitting in a chair with ice on my knee instead of under my fee. Have to watch it now since I took the brunt of the fall on my knee and my hands. Since on Coumadin I have been very careful but sure messed it up today.
Guess I'll see what happens and if I can walk later today. Sat, 9 Mar 2013 14:41:50 EST Motivation! Day 6 Surprisingly easier to get those minutes in. Tried walking on the treadmill with a good book, lasted longer, maybe a little slower but steady. Then outside to walk with the dogs again.
Read my Spark Friends blogs, get motivated, go walk some more - YES - I need motivation.
Wish I had some that I could pull out when I need it - oh I do! lol, called Spark Friends.

223 Thu, 7 Mar 2013 17:49:25 EST Back on Track - making this habit stick! Day 5 Improvement Plan Walked the dogs outside for about 20 minutes - should say hiked. We cut through the snow in the woods looking for deer. Lots of tracks but no deer - very icy in some places.
Walked again on the treadmill for 30 minutes - feeling good about it all.
Still ok with my water intake, portion control except I love eating nuts and have to measure each one. Tracking is good, attitude is good.
Gonna unlearn my bad habits by building new ones.
YaHoo! Wed, 6 Mar 2013 13:31:54 EST Day 4 - help - slipping, slipping. Did my exercise, went to meditation class, went to help out at church, great cake there, had a piece.
Came home, walked, at the piece of cake that I brought for my DH - crud!!!

Start over - go walk some more - meditate and remember that meditation does NOT make me hungry!!

234 Tue, 5 Mar 2013 18:46:57 EST Day 3 of changing a habit Well I did stick with it today so far. I decided that I would listen to a tape then exercise and it worked. I feel good, stuck to my plan, and I'm on my way. Doesn't feel like work now - back to the energy I used to have.

Can't wait til day 4. 104 386 Mon, 4 Mar 2013 14:23:02 EST Finding Ways to avoid exercise Uh oh - today I'm finding it very easy to skip exercise. Yep, my whole body hurts. Hmmm, does it? It didn't keep me from going to church. Guess I will have to put an actual plan in place to do this or find another habit to break that's easier.
Not? Ok: the plan is: I will set a time to exercise for 10 minutes 2 times a day. One time for 10 minutes in the am and 10 in the afternoon.
Where? Morning outside with the dogs. Afternoon: on the treadmill.
What time? 10 ... Sun, 3 Mar 2013 16:44:14 EST Walking Again Walking seems to be the only exercise I can do right now. Next week I'm going to try Yoga. I'm pretty concerned because I used to do Tai Chi but I don't have the strength to do it anymore. My legs go week and shake when I hold the positions. Hopefully the Yoga will help with this. I'm up to walking 30 minutes so can get a little over a mile in.
Trying to keep from procrastination and do something! So this is the bad habit I'm trying to overcome: Finding ways to get out of exercise... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 23:38:05 EST 5% by Summer This is my life goal for the next year and how I plan on accomplishing it.
I want to be able to get in and out of my kayak without help. To do this I will have to build up the the leg, core, and arm strength needed by exercise and strength training.
To be able to comfortably walk up and down the paths to the beach or hills without losing my breath. It will take the cardiac training I plan to put in place - walking daily, meditating, and taking on the Yoga or Tai chi I want to co... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 15:32:17 EST How many chances do you get? I'm back! Lately I have been feeling lousy - since I got blood clots in my lungs a couple of weeks ago. Coumadin is supposed to keep my blood thin enough so I don't get more but the clots make you pretty weak for awhile.
The only thing that let me know I was no ok was shortness of breath. Scary!
I'm looking at things again - how many chances do you get? Everyday you wake up I guess is a chance to make a change.
Walking is back in my life - as long as I can breath anyw... Thu, 28 Jun 2012 12:20:23 EST Exercise and Persistence with Spark's Friend's Help! Today I sat and thought about what has happened in the last 3 years since I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer
1. I live better - enjoy my family time and my friends.
2. I make time for the ones that are important to me. That includes taking time to read articles and track on Spark.
3. Knowing that I will be on Spark daily I make sure that I have something to track in the exercises and by golly I rarely miss a day. Before this it was hit or miss. I keep thinking I will let my... Wed, 9 May 2012 00:18:55 EST Back to Posting Backsliding seems to be in my nature! Today got it going again. Beautiful out and so far have only really enjoyed it today.
My oldest son was here for my youngest son's wedding. It was quick because the brides father was really sick. The wedding went off beautifully - her father couldn't make it.
We had the wedding on Friday and buried her father on Saturday. It was pretty emotional for everyone.
It's over and the kids are doing great. They now are starting a beautif... Tue, 20 Mar 2012 16:38:38 EST Need some motivation Been dieting for awhile now and it's going slow! I guess I need to talk to myself some more.

So - I know I can do this - it is just taking so long. Lose a couple pounds then gain one.
I'm looking at what I'm doing that is not getting the results I want.
First I am tracking - but am doing it on line and maybe I'm not adding everything so am going to put a piece of paper and a pencil in my pocket and wright when I eat it.
I stopped measuring - ok I know what t... Fri, 24 Feb 2012 13:17:09 EST Lost 3.5 so far Finally This week I made it through the weekend with only tacos and nachos - and still lost 3.5 pounds so I'm happy.
My problem was that I was dieting again. I have to remember that it's a way of doing things not a diet. Hopefully it works for me. The last two MD visits showed that I am doing it most of the time. I had the exactly same A1c and Cholesterol #'s that I had last time I was there. I did let go over Christmas but not too badly thanks to the challenges on Spark!
So happy ... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 19:29:20 EST Hard Week End - I Lost Well I'm so glad that I can start over every day! This week end we had a party for two birthdays in my family. Happy event but I kind of lost control. Great cheese ball - we usually only have it at Christmas but we just happened to have another one. It's the one thing I really love. Ok so there were two things I really love - the other is the white chocolate eclair cake my daughter made. I had both so I really have to work this week.
Sorry partner - I will walk, and walk, and walk... Mon, 30 Jan 2012 10:51:53 EST Getting Ready for Another Challenge: Ok, so 1 down and 1 ready to go - almost!
I'm starting a new challenge this week and am gonna make this thing roll! Have a fantastic partner and we are ready to go get 'em!

I want to lose 5-8 pounds
Continue to walk/exercise at least 30 minutes daily
To Blog which helps keep me focused.

Of course drink that water and track my food are the other two things that make this work. Also it's gotten to be more of a life style now - a good one by the way. ... Fri, 27 Jan 2012 14:22:31 EST Whiney Today! 24 achy all over today and I don't know why. Every once in awhile this happens. Old age is not fun, is it? So I better start counting my blessings so it doesn't get me down.

Worked on scrap booking today. Put together a little book for a cruise my DH and I went on. Probably our only one since I'm really afraid of water when I can't see land. Oops, whining again!
Burned a bunch of old documents - good thing it's nice out and I can use the container. Oh, nic... Wed, 25 Jan 2012 19:43:46 EST Back to Me Time This week has really sped by and I've been trying to stick with certain things - goals for eating fish twice (met), goals for visualization (met), goals for looking good (sort of), thinking positive (met), now I'm seeing that it means that I really have to look at that time that is taken for just me. It means so much to spend a little each day either in medication, prayer, or just relaxing.
To today I'm going to snuggle up in a blanket by my fire and decide which one of those things I... Fri, 20 Jan 2012 10:57:22 EST Yucky Fish - didn't meet my goal for that! Today I decided to have fish so I could have it twice this week. Nope! I cooked it, put it on the plate, tasted it, and then fed it to the dog.
Didn't have Lemon Talapia - yuck!!! Tasted like cardboard.
Will do the fish 2 times this week - tuna fish for lunch tomorrow. Guess Tilapia just isn't my thing.

By the way the dong is fine - 334 Thu, 19 Jan 2012 18:34:02 EST Cleaning the Basement and Other Fun Things Whew! How do you track cleaning out the closet under the stairs of 40 years of "treasures"?
I found a note from my son who was 9 years old explaining to his Dad why he still loved him but would he please not kiss or hug him anymore in front of his friends. I remember that day - when my DH was leaving the house he gave me, my daughter , and tried to give my son a kiss. When he reached for him - my son put his hand out so my DH could shake it.

Then I found old letters from ... Wed, 18 Jan 2012 19:44:38 EST Need to Add Sleep to my Goal List Now! O my! Last night I was on the computer until about 2:00am. Haven't done that in a long time. It is so not good for me - I eat at night. At least it was nuts that I ate but way too many.
So I am adding sleep for the goal today and the rest of the week. If I don't sleep then I don't have the great attitude - well today I still do. 334
I'm still seeing the new me - and I'm going to remember that to keep me going I will be going to bed at a healthy time. It's so good ... Tue, 17 Jan 2012 14:01:36 EST Still Thinking Thin! Today I decided since when I see myself thin that I would get my hair cut the way I see me. So I did - and while I was at it I took a 2 mile walk. So I can see it, I can see it, and I can do it!

My lunch was great and I remembered to slowly chew and enjoy the taste. I know that I'm worth it - I know that I can see me as I am. It feels so good to do this!

Day 3 is here and I'm on my way! Mon, 16 Jan 2012 16:04:02 EST Thinking Good Things This week I'm working on thinking myself thinner - I remember doing this before. I know it helps to imagine that you are really thin and only like to taste things. Ok to eat anything but remember that it isn't worth eating the whole thing.
Just picture yourself where you want to be, enjoy the company of others and take a taste. Leave at least part of what you take on your plate if you are eating out. If you are eating in only take half of what you normally would, eat slowly thinkin... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 14:28:23 EST Sleepy Today! Got up early today to take DH to a MD appointment. We had to be there at 6:30 am. That's pretty early for me.
Anyway I have been sleepy all day - not because of the early rise but it was difficult to sleep last night. All day long have been in a fog. Guess that means I have to figure out how to get to sleep when I'm concerned about getting up in the am.
Sluggishness is not good - so tonight it's to bed early and get back in a routine. Read some of the articles on Spark about... Tue, 3 Jan 2012 17:18:54 EST Cold Outside Rats - I'm on a roll and I think it's too cold outside to do much. Sooooooo- the treadmill or the bike - make a choice.
I think I'll do 10 on each and see what happens.
The room is starting to look like a gym - hope it gets warm enough to walk outside or I'm going to have to finish it off!

Happy New Year to all and keep moving!!!
Mon, 2 Jan 2012 16:29:36 EST Working the Videos Just finished the first 8 minute video! It got my heart pumping. Way harder than the walk I took today. I guess I didn't walk fast enough. Of course I walked the first 10 minutes to the Hair Salon, got my nails done, walked another 15 minutes, ran into an old neighbor, talked for 10 minutes, and then walked another 15 minutes. Enjoyed every minute of it!

Tonight will be a little harder since the family will be over for NY Eve. We will have steaks for dinner, and then play g... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 14:00:08 EST Ending the year This year sped by even when I came out of my fog! So many things happened and I enjoyed almost all of them. Some highlights.
My oldest grandson graduated. The whole family went to Florida for the graduation, got a condo by the beach, went swimming in the gulf, spent time at my son's home and had a wonderful family celebration.
Spent a few days in NC with friends, went to a wedding in SC for a friends son. I'll write more about that sometime.
My husband had a TIA in Augus... Fri, 30 Dec 2011 14:48:38 EST On Track On track today? Started out wrong so now I can do the rest of the day right! Remembering to get back on track after I slacked off was hard. Now it's different - I remember how right it was when I went in for my check up and realized that I didn't have to diet - I was actually living the new life.
Everyday I try to do that. To talk to myself and give me a hug. Everyday can be back on track - even if you screw up.
My pants fit better, I can breath, I'm thankful that I can ha... Fri, 16 Dec 2011 11:32:57 EST Cookie Exchange Mishap This is the 4th year I've been in the same cookie exchange. It seems like every year something happens to make it memorable. This year my 15 year old black lab helped.
I made hershey kisses cookies on Friday night and put them on the dining room table for the kisses to harden - 12 to a plate.
In the morning I went into the dining room and found the empty plates. Sun, 27 Nov 2011 18:24:51 EST 5K for Breast Cancer Saturday I walked the 5K Stride walk. It was wonderful - I had a great team with me. My nephew came from NY to visit, came up to spend the night and offered to walk with us. He and his girlfriend both came and walked. My daughter walked, my 3 sisters-in-law walked and my niece Kelli walked also. The first time we had a crowd.
The place was crazy with survivors - so many nice folks and their support teams walking and raising money for a good cause. Hope they find a cure soon. Over... Mon, 17 Oct 2011 10:40:22 EST Two Years With the Spark - Thank You Spark - Make my Appointment Today. Wow!!! Two years now with the Spark. Two interesting, productive, informative, and enjoyable years of getting support when I need it.
So far I have lost 30 pounds and kept it off - not where I wanted to be yet but on my way. And guess what: that isn't the only benefit I have gotten from being here. I believe with my whole being that I wouldn't have stuck with the exercise program or worked as hard as I have with out the Spark.
1. Almost every day I get encouragement from one o... Thu, 1 Sep 2011 14:59:48 EST How do you know it's a stroke? Wow I had a trying weekend. My husband ended up in the hospital - he had slurred speech, drooping on his right side, and other cognitive issues.
We called emergency - who were there right away - and he was taken to a small hospital near by. They transferred him to the bigger one after he was stabilized. We were there for 4 days and he had lots of tests. The final results said he had a TIA. It must have been a big one - because he sure had lots of care. Everyone was great at the h... Wed, 13 Jul 2011 13:16:04 EST Follow Up to Goal Setting Wow - only 2 goals followed. Guess I need to look at the goals again.
1. Start a new way of enjoying the evening. This one I did right. I visited a friend, sat out on the back patio one night and am going to Tai Chi then go through my summer "stuff" for a planned trip.
2. Didn't do this one - so this week I am going to add this one and do it for the week. Not only back and measure but make sure I plan the snacks.
3. I'm finding that I have to look and write new goals all the time and them come back to check and see how I'm doing.
So here goes again:
1. Start a new way of enjoying the evening. Like stay outside since it's nice. Get out my sewing and use my fingers to finish up a task.
2. Measure my snacks.
3. Today I spent my morning feeling guilty about feeling way better than I should about the death of Osama. Every time I make a judgement I have to remember that judgements are not mine to make!

I also read a quote that I read every day that makes me remember who's fault it is when something happens and who has to be responsible for their own actions. Went out to walk and went for about 20 minutes with the dogs.
Then I came in and decided that that was just not good enough! I did 2 more miles. Then tonight I went to Tai Chi for an hour. Now that's better and more like I want to be! So it's ok to start slow as long as you finish fast or at least finish. I am going to get this off now! 248 Mon, 18 Apr 2011 19:06:05 EST Shopping Whew! Today I walked for 4 hours. Not fast but continuously and now I'm ready for bed. Now tomorrow I'm not walking anywhere - well maybe to the pew in church. :)

Back to working on the goals for this weeks challenge. Sat, 16 Apr 2011 21:38:46 EST Reality Check This morning I just didn't want to exercise! I looked outside and it was cold. So I took the dogs out anyway, then met my friend who asked "Are we walking today?", guess what? I feel so much better now. We walked a mile together and enjoyed the sunny spots, shivered in the shady spots, and hurried because it was cold. Too funny - I guess being friends is way more important than being lazy!

311 220 Thu, 14 Apr 2011 14:15:18 EST Love this quote! Today I picked up one of my old VHS tapes - Dance Your Butt Off! I didn't realize how much I used to work out. This really made me sweat - felt good and was a nice change to just walking. I love the variety of dance, walk, tai chi, and then dance again.
No matter what you do it works - just move and enjoy yourself. I have a treadmill but it gets tiresome so now soon we can spend more time outside.

Love it!! 345 306 Wed, 30 Mar 2011 13:57:04 EST No More Snow - I want to walk outside! It snowed again yesterday - I shoveled it and played with my grandson in it, now I'd like to be rid of it. Is that too much to ask for spring? Maybe, but I still want it.
When I can walk outside easily - breathing isn't as much of a problem if it's warmer. I feel better and have no reason not to walk. Guess I don't have one anyway there are other forms of exercise - but doggone it - I want o walk outside with the green around me.

Whining doesn't get me anywhere I gues...
