GINGERLY4's SparkPeople Blog GINGERLY4's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Being the big girl at the gym.... The only good thing about I have seen both sides of the story. I have lost weight with CrossFit and eating healthy (not dieting) and gotten to a point where I loved my body. Then my career had a major change and I gained all the weight I lost and added some extra on top! I'm now sitting at 200 pounds for first time in my life w/o a pregnancy involved in my weight gain.

Sooo....I went from being an intermediate athlete, to being the big girl at the gym. It's frustrating and... Sat, 17 Mar 2018 09:35:29 EST All about the choices... Wow...time has flown by. I am not in a great place physically or mentally, but I'm working on it. Life really does come down to the choices we make. We choose what we put into our mouths/bodies, what we focus on, and whether we are okay with where we are.

Revelations for myself:
1. I need to choose to say no at work.
2. I need to choose to make my work life better.
3. I need to choose the gym as a priority. 323 It is like having a Dr. apt. 23... Thu, 28 Dec 2017 09:40:51 EST Some days just suck! Well I made it to the gym today. My great revelation for today:

Some days just suck!

For the first time in a long time, I didn't finish a work out. I got half way through it and had to stop. It's been a couple of weeks since I worked out in the heat and I'm withdrawing from alcohol. So....I stopped about 20 minutes into the workout. I'm okay with that, because at least I showed up today. It's Thursday and it was my first day at the gym. I know tomorrow will be bet... Thu, 20 Jul 2017 23:09:18 EST Discipline is hard work! For 2 years and some change I was very disciplined. I hit the gym, no excuses. I watched my diet and stuck to one cheat day a week. Then work got in the way and I started to let things slip. I stopped being consistent at the gym, I stopped being strict with my diet, and I started drinking a lot more (I already liked my beer too much as it was).

What I have learned from this is:
1. I can't eat a processed food diet. I feel like crap and my body hates carbs and sugar.
... Wed, 19 Jul 2017 09:22:36 EST Change your mindset I've been down lately. Work has taken a lot of my time and I've let my fitness slip. So I stepped out of my comfort zone and have started training with a more advance training program. I had to swallow my pride last night. I had to scale my workouts, because I had a whole day of working my weaknesses (strict handstand pushups, ring muscle ups). The only thing I could do without scaling was the rowing and running. I suck at running, but I can kill on the rower.

Anyways, I've h... Wed, 12 Apr 2017 08:06:10 EST Get Back To Where You Belong! So between the time I last posted and now....I had mono. I was working and I was exhausted. It literally felt like I was walking/moving through water through I everything I did. Needless to say, everything got put on hold for a while. I still worked, the Dr. said I was okay to work, but I had to stop working out. I gained some weight and I seriously was thinking about just quitting. It was nice to wake up, go to work, and go home. Nothing in between like the gym. No lugging my gym stu... Wed, 22 Mar 2017 20:46:10 EST Finally Felt Good Working Out Again Tuesday night I went to bed and did not sleep. I spent the night tossing and turning, so I didn't get a workout in that day. I'm human and when I'm running on 3 hours sleep and dealing with tiny humans...I'm done at the end of the day.....Which means Weds. was a wash for a workout.

Thursday was good, but today...well today felt good! I felt like I moved well. I felt like I pushed myself. I again. I know it's the's always the diet.

Anyways, ton... Fri, 6 Jan 2017 20:53:44 EST 4 a.m. is too freakin' early.... Ugh...I hate waking up at 4 a.m. It is not a happy time for me, but I did it yesterday and I'm on track to do it again tomorrow. This will be my new gym time!

On a positive note, I'm 98% compliant with Paleo right now! All my breakfasts for the week are cooked and stored. I have left overs for lunch with a couple extra frozen...just in case. I'm already feeling better, my tummy is happier, and I'm not craving the sugar so much right now. The only complaint is it seems I eat a... Tue, 3 Jan 2017 21:37:27 EST Don't get me wrong...I don't want to be skinny... I want to be strong.

I'm still struggling with work/life/gym balance. So I'm going to switch this around. It's going to be gym/life/work balance. I'm still finding my after work/evening time is being consumed by my job. This is restricting my gym time which is impacting my conditioning and my strength. Soooooo......

I have moved myself into a locker at my gym. I have an extra blow dryer, all hair care products, and an extra set of hygiene for everything in my locke... Mon, 2 Jan 2017 15:14:06 EST Balance is Hard In January of this year, I was hired as a full time teacher. I went from being an assistant who got to walk away at the end of the day, to the teacher whose job it seems never ends. I'm finding my gym time is suffering and my eating is suffering as well. I don't get home, some days, till almost 8 PM (days I do make it to the gym). Other days I'm at work till 6 PM, which means I can't make a CrossFit class at my gym.

I'm struggling with balance and setting boundaries. I need ... Mon, 10 Oct 2016 09:48:38 EST 2015 Kissed My Shrinking Butt Good-Bye!! 2015 was a crazy year for me! I dedicated myself to CrossFit and never looked back. This decision gave back to me in so many ways it is unreal.

Paleo - I converted to the Paleo lifestyle of eating. ALL my labs showed huge improvements. My cholesterol dropped 40 points and my good cholesterol took a huge jump. Best calorie counting.

Weight/Measurements - I jump on the scale, but it doesn't define me. I can weigh anywhere from 159-165 lbs on any given day ... Thu, 31 Dec 2015 11:29:04 EST Sometimes you need a challenge to get back on track!! The end of August/beginning of September was crazy for me. My two oldest daughters both got married. We celebrated the oldest in our area and went to SC for our other daughter. It made sticking to Paleo a challenge and I fell off the wagon. I didn't have a complete melt down, but I was cheating more than normal and was drinking a lot more alcohol.

My weight fluctuated by going up 2 to 3 pounds. Thankfully, I was still working out consistently or it probably would of gone up ... Sun, 4 Oct 2015 10:14:38 EST We are being hoodwinked by Coca-Cola...
oca-cola-funds-scientists-who-shift-bl
ame-for-obesity-away-from-bad-diets/?p
artner=msft_msn&_r=1

This is a very interesting blog. CrossFit has been hitting away at Coke and it's connection to Type 2 Diabetes for a while now (while garnering some unfavorable responses), but it has a point. One thing that is pointed out in the movie FED UP is the relationship between health organizations and corporations. This article brings up... Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:57:08 EST Sugar is Evil!!! I've been watching a lot of documentaries about food and our food supply. It's been very educational and the major conclusion I have made is...sugar is evil. It is in almost everything, everything!! This is especially true if you eat a lot of processed food.

4grams of sugar=1 tsp

Now go into your cupboards and look at how much sugar is in your cereal, oatmeal, crackers, etc. It's mind blowing. In the documentary That Sugar Film, the main subject was eating 40gram... Mon, 10 Aug 2015 09:31:04 EST Before & Progress - Two rulers gone! Find what you love and show up for it regularly! Take your measurements and don't believe everything the scale tells you!

I recently did the math. I have lost 25.2 lbs and 24.5 inches! I took a two rulers off my body!! Tue, 7 Jul 2015 13:27:37 EST Body Confidence For the first time since I was a teenager, I feel good about my body. I've only lost about 25 lbs and I'm still overweight, but damn...I'm starting to look hot! Even when I was 118 lbs when I turned thirty, I didn't feel this good about my body. My body is strong, it's becoming efficient, and it's mine!

It's hard to express to people how hard earned this body confidence is. I didn't even realize I had it, until I tried on an outfit (tight yoga pants and a tight t-shirt) and I l... Wed, 1 Jul 2015 08:03:45 EST Kissing My Butt Good-Bye!! Stepped on the scale this morning...168.8! Wow...can't believe I'm in the 160's again. I haven't been this small in over 7 years. I also went to Target and tried on some workout clothes. I almost took a selfie of me in booty shorts and a sports bra (I didn't buy the booty shorts). That's how much my body has changed.

THIS IS WHAT HARD WORK GIVES YOU!

My butt, which used to knock things over because I never knew how far it extended behind me, is much smaller and fi... Thu, 11 Jun 2015 12:46:26 EST Big Changes... It's been a while since I blogged. Between work and CrossFit, I don't have a lot of free time. I'm transitioning to paleo and I feel like all my free time (what little there was) has been spent cooking. It's been worth it though. My upset stomach has gone away. I no longer feel bloated and I just feel better. I wasn't expecting that. I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting that.

I've lost about 15 - 17 lbs. A lady at work asked how much weight I've lost ... Sun, 26 Apr 2015 10:57:28 EST You Can't PR Every Time! I did my one rep max for the snatch yesterday. I PR'd my snatch (90#) and my power snatch (95#). The snatch was a big deal for me, because when I started I wasn't catching the bar in a squat and now I can.

Anyways, the WOD last night consisted of a one rep max for the split jerk. My previous PR for this was 125#. Last night I was only able to do 115#. I was really bothered by this. I had to reflect about what was going on with me. The one thing I noticed is the week before m... Thu, 26 Feb 2015 10:45:57 EST Tired and I know it! So I haven't been on SparkPeople much. I started a two month Olympic Lifting class in January. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursday I take the Oly class and then do my normal Crossfit WOD afterwards and then do WODs on the other days. I've been taking rest days on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Since I started, I've been sick twice. I work with kindergarteners, so I get exposed to a lot of germs/viruses. I don't normally get sick this often though. I do get an occasional head cold, bu... Sun, 15 Feb 2015 11:04:19 EST Negative is Easy! Why is it so much easier to think negative thoughts than it is to think positive thoughts? A quick example:

I get on Facebook this morning and there is a shout out to all the people who competed in the throw down at another box this weekend. It was teams of four athletes(2 guys and 2 girls). I saw the names and I instantly started to go negative.

They are all young. They are all uberly fit. They are all cardio machines...blah, blah, blah. Not a single positive th... Sun, 4 Jan 2015 09:13:17 EST When did that freakin' happen? I got a gift card for Target from my daughter to buy some workout clothes. I'm a stinky sweater, so they tend to not last too long even with very regular washing. I found some tights and tops and went to try them on.

I'm not big on looking at myself in the mirror. I mean I'm 5'4 and weigh about 185 lbs. I'm obese...get it? Got it? Good! Now today I took a real good look at myself (those angled mirrors are awesome for this). My butt is smaller. My legs almost have some defin... Wed, 31 Dec 2014 14:58:47 EST The Scale Can Kiss My Rear End! Okay, so I only officially weigh myself once a month, but I jumped on the scale this morning. It was up a little. Not a happy finding. I didn't make open gym at the box, so I needed to come up with something to do today.

I decided to put my running shoes on and go for a run. A 5k around my neighborhood. I did the whole thing without stopping!! Now, I haven't been running lately. I've been doing Crossfit 3-4 times a week. I did a 2 mile run about 3 weeks ago, just to see i... Sun, 28 Dec 2014 15:34:31 EST Crossfit Fundamentals Class 4 First I have to admit my diet over the weekend sucked! I had beer and wine. I also had Indian today, so I was not feeling to great when I went to class. With that being said we learned about:
Handstand push ups & how to scale them
Deadlifts
Toes to bar
Knees to elbows
Wall Balls

Our 10 minute WOD was:
5 deadlift (85lbs)
5 toes to bar
5 wall balls
5 handstand pushups (scaled was 10 holds in a handstand)

My biggest accomplish... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 23:02:47 EST Crossfit Fundamentals Day 3 Being at the gym/box, whatever you want to call it, isn't the hard part. The hard part is not being there. I don't have anyone else who has this interest. My husband isn't interested, my kids aren't interested, and I don't know anyone else outside the environment who does it. It makes it a little harder. Especially food wise. I talk about ditching dairy, reducing sugar, and mention paleo and my hubby just kind of looks at me like....uh-huh we've talked about this before and nothing chan... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 22:37:26 EST Love it...Hate it...Crossfit Fundamentals Day 2 Today we were all there except for one person. We also added another person to the class. We reviewed the following:
Rowing
Back squat
Press
Push press

Our ten minute WOD was a team effort with three people on each team for:
2000 meter row
100 press
100 Russian twist
Only two team members could workout at a time. I did 50 push presses, 400 m row, and 20 Russian twists. My shoulders are going to hate me tomorrow, but legs should be okay. <... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 21:34:31 EST Definitely the BIG Girl tonight!!! Crossfit Fundaments Day 1 So today I had my first fundamental lesson for crossfit. I have to attend six classes and then I can do regular WODs. There were seven of us in the class and I was definitely the BIG Girl in the class. It was a little intimidating, I'll be honest.

We did a 400m jog for a warm-up. Then we reviewed the following moves:
Air Squats
Lunges/Walking Lunges
AB Pad Sit-ups
Russian Twists
Jump Rope (regular and double unders)
Push-ups
Box Jumps
... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 22:00:30 EST Something New! It's time to start something new. I have set my goals and have a plan. I start Crossfit tomorrow and look forward to learning the ropes. I really need to lose this weight and get my body and stamina back! I'm working towards 50 lbs gone. I'm done being the fat girl! Sun, 17 Aug 2014 22:30:47 EST Why here and not there? I'm visiting my parents in WA right now, because my dad had back surgery and I traveled out here to help my parents out. This is not my first trip to WA state, we were stationed here before and I love this state. This is the state where I ran my first half-marathon. This is the state where I quit smoking. This is the state where I started working and decided to pursue my degree for teaching. I have a lot of positive associations with this state.

We currently live in VA Beach. ... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 12:51:07 EST I am soooo guilty of this!! A big mistake people make when trying to get healthier is when they fall off the wagon a bit and think, ''I have to start over!'' - SparkCoach Nicole

Umm...this is me. Totally and completely me! I suffer from this delusion. This is not my first SP account and I've started and stopped WW more times than I'd like to admit. Perhaps I constantly start over, because I'm scared a mistake will stop me from having progress? But that doesn't work, because I haven't had progress due to ... Fri, 14 Mar 2014 10:21:03 EST Excuses - SparkCoach Blog Spark Coach is dealing with exercise excuses today and we are supposed to blog about our excuses for skipping exercise and our plan to counter those excuses.

Excuses 1 - I'm Tired! Honestly, I am tired at the end of the day. However, I'm not so tired that I won't watch TV shows before going to bed. If I want to watch episodes of something, I need to do it on my treadmill! One episode usually equals 42-45 minutes on the treadmill.

Excuse 2 - I don't have time today. ... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 09:25:18 EST Down a pound!!! WooHoo! I'm a down a pound since last week. I had a low mid week weigh-in, but it wasn't real. I'm okay with that, because I am down a pound from last week!

I took a good look at my weight chart in SP. I extended the dates out to next Sunday, so I can see what my goal weight is supposed to be and that is what I am aiming for. So I am working towards being 188 on weigh-in next Sunday.

On the medical side of things, I'm having thyroid issues! It's been over a year ... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 08:37:05 EST Slowing Down This Journey I'm someone who has to jump in 100%. The problem is...I can't stay 100% for any real length of time. I was reflecting on this yesterday and have realized a few things about myself.

1. I'm 40 years old and thing like my knees...hurt when I do too much. (I've noticed my knees hurt when I don't modify TurboFire workouts).

2. I'm closer to 200 lbs than 150 lbs. I need to respect my body by easing into workouts now. Mon, 10 Feb 2014 21:52:24 EST Today's Question...Made to Crave Did I feel, at any time, I ran to food instead of God?

NO! I am so happy to say this today. It's been a rough day too. My second oldest daughter is now 18 (birthday) and she's been grumpy (feeling her oats). We went out to dinner and the family bickered for a little bit before we settled in. It would of been so easy to get a heavy dinner, but I went with chicken kabobs, stewed green beans, and rice pilaf (which I did not finish). I then had only 1 slice of cake. I have decaf... I try to have my physical desires fulfilled outside of the will of God.
2. I try to get my material desires met outside of the will of God.
3. I had a gain. However, I pulled it together last week. I tracked faithfully, stayed within my points, and attended the meetings. I exercised 6 days in a row. I had a 4 pound loss this week. Which gave me 1.8 pound loss since the beginning of WW. I'll take it! I've joined an exercise challenge on the WW message boards. My challenge for next week is to workout as soon as I get home from work. I have two sub jobs that will start pretty early in the ... Sat, 19 Oct 2013 09:56:29 EST Day 6 Good Day!
