GIGI4AUSTIN's SparkPeople Blog GIGI4AUSTIN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I dumped the dump cake?! I am so very proud of myself this morning. I did something that made me feel great!

I made a dump cake on Monday for a church meeting being held at our house. Unfortunately, there was some left over. I was tempted to eat a serving for breakfast this morning.....I took one bite and thought, "There sure is a lot of sugar in here and it isn't a good all!"

So, I dumped the dump caKe! Threw it right in the trash....all of it.....the portion I had serv... Sat, 22 Nov 2014 10:42:49 EST "Down" & "Up" I am so "DOWN" because my weight is "UP." I have gained 19 of the 33 pounds I lost 2 years ago. I can't talk about my weight and how I feel to people sometimes; they just can't relate or don't agree or understand, so I'm blogging it here.

I'm so frustrated and so disgusted with how I got back to this place. So, this is what I'm going to do. I'm vowing right here, right now to:

1. Not beat myself up.
2. Exercise everyday
3. Eat better (that means no sweets... Sun, 21 Sep 2014 09:41:59 EST What happened? I am sitting here in tears and with frustration at my bad habits lately. I have no excuse; I have the tools......I have the knowledge......I just don't have the will power. What the heck happened?

I lost 33 pounds 1.5 years ago and I have gained 18 of it back. I am so disgusted with myself. I don't like the way I feel (menopause isn't helping much with that) and I certainly don't like the way I look. My clothes fit too tight, I feel like a butterball. I know what I need to ... Fri, 12 Sep 2014 15:48:56 EST The best part of my Day? Listening to a friend in need and scheduling a much-needed massage for my husband. Thu, 1 May 2014 18:49:48 EST Help! Help! Help! I can't seem to stay on program! Question is, why? I've done this program before and had such will power and determination. Now I just feel like a failure. I need to get to the bottom as to why and deal with it.

Reflecting back, I have had a lot of stress in my life; a lot of distractions. We moved from California to Illinois in late July and were supposed to move into the house we purchased on August 16. Turns out my husband got reassigned at work again, right in the middle... Mon, 14 Oct 2013 08:16:39 EST Frustrated, but Determined Well, hello's been a few months since my last blog. It's time; time to get back with the program. SparkPeople is a must for me as I have been slacking in my daily logging of food and keeping track of exercise and just staying involved in the SparkCommunity overall. As a result, I have gained back about 14 pounds. That's right, 14 pounds.

I could choose to beat myself up (okay, I have a bit) or I can just pick of the pieces and do this yet AGAIN. That's what I... Tue, 10 Sep 2013 08:18:19 EST Two Steps Back I have been struggling lately, with my diet and exercise, that is. I feel like I have taken two steps backward.

I first had issues where I had no appetite which lasted about a week. Then I went through a phase where I felt like I couldn't get enough carbs. I've been totally swamped working on an Interior Design Project at my church, keeping up with my other ministries, and taking care of our house and home. I love doing it, but find myself not having (or taking) the time I need... Sat, 6 Apr 2013 21:30:52 EST 3 Things I've Accomplished Today, Spark Guy (via SparkCoach) encouraged us to write down three things we have accomplished on our new lifestyle journey. I have more than three.......Below are some of my accomplishments that I am very proud of:

1. Trained for and ran my first 5K
2. Trained for and ran my first 10K
3. Lost 33 pounds
4. Went down 8 sizes in clothing (Size 14 to a 6 and sometimes even a 4)
5. Am off all of my anti-depressant and anxiety medications (3 total)
6. De... Sat, 23 Mar 2013 17:59:21 EST Disappointed, but Thankful. Today finds me disappointed, but thankful. About what, you ask? Well, I have been training to run in a half-marathon in June of this year. Well, my training is over after the doctor told me that I can no longer do long distance running. I ran 9 miles last Saturday and came home to my right knee sounding like crunching gravel as I climbed the stairs to take a shower. I was diagnosed with Femoral Patella Crepitus. It isn't a major injury, but more of a wake-up call that I am doing damage.... Sat, 16 Mar 2013 16:19:17 EST Not "There" Yet..... Well, I still have not reached my goal weight of 133. In fact, I was one pound away from reaching my goal and then gained a few, lost a few, gained a couple, lost a couple. I guess it could be a great deal worse. On the bright side, I am still 30 pounds less than I was a year ago.

A year ago, I would have beat myself up....ALOT. I may have even given up completely on living a healthy lifestyle. But, not anymore. Since joining SparkPeople and learning about eating healthy, how... Fri, 8 Mar 2013 11:28:13 EST A New "Smaller" Size Oh my goodness, can I tell you how great it felt on Tuesday to go clothes shopping? After losing over 30 pounds it was time! My friends kept telling me to stop wearing clothes, especially my pants, that were too big for me.

To be quite honest, I kind of dreaded shopping at first. I am not fond of going into dressing rooms and stripping my clothes off to try on clothes that are not mine. It is usually cold in those rooms and I get frustrated when things don't fit quite right.... Thu, 21 Feb 2013 15:16:55 EST Did I Blow It? Not sure why, but I have really struggled this week with mindless eating. I have also noticed an increase in my appetite. Notsure why, but NOT good! I tend to beat myself up for blowing it on Valentines Day too. For reasons that would take too long to explain, we could not go out for Valentines Day for dinner so we decided last minute to order Pizza in. MISTAKE!!!!!!!! I went over my calories for the day, I feel like I totally blew it!

Lessons learned?
1. Don't keep un... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 22:08:15 EST It is All about Will Ever have those days where you just aren't motivated? Just don't want to measure all of your food? Just don't want to track everything you put in your mouth? Drink your water? Exercise?

This week has been one of those weeks for me. Really? I was one pound away from my goal weight and just kind of blew it this week by gaining 3 pounds. Unbelievable, but true. Yikes! Well, that's it! It is NOT too late for me to get back on track. Especially, before I do anymore damage. <... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 09:09:18 EST I Think I Have Hit "The Wall." As a runner, I have heard about the dreaded "Wall." I think I may have hit it; at least the way I have heard it described to me anyway. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I have had days where I could run 5 or 6 miles with no problem, and usually in under an hour. But lately, I can barely complete 30 minutes.

If you are a runner and you have experienced this, can you shed some lessons learned of how you overcame it? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

<em... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 17:36:27 EST Together, We're Unstoppable! Okay, okay, I'll admit it....I like the music of the Fresh Beat Band; a band that exists on Nick Jr. I home school my grandson and we watch episodes of the Fresh Beat Band sometimes for exercise (cuz we get to dance), music, and learning. I love music, it speaks to me on so many different levels. I love listening to songs that motivate me and inspire me to do better and be better. I've shared songs from the same band in past BLOGS and I just have to share this song as well.

The... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 12:18:48 EST If There's a Will There's a Way! I am a runner. I love to run. I run at least 3-4 times a week a minimum of 30 minutes each time in the early mornings.

Well, it has been unusually cold where I live and I am just not at all used to it. Even the afternoons remain too chilly for comfort. It makes my ears ache and my feet get really cold which causes my RLS to flare up.

So, I decided the other day to do The Biggest Loser's Power Walk DVD workout in my living room. I love the workout and Bob Harper, bu... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 08:32:03 EST Things I've Learned Well, I am almost there! 1 pound to go until I reach my goal weight. It feels great and during my weight loss journey, I have learned a lot about dieting, exercise, motivation, and more. Thought I'd share some of those with you today.

To be successful at weight loss, health and fitness, (and all other dreams and goals):

1. Take advantage of the Spark tools available; nutrition tracker, fitness tracker, team challenges, etc.
2. Measure or weigh food and Track or ... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 08:42:24 EST A Happy Runner! Wow! That was difficult, but I DID IT!

It has been a full seven days that I have not been ale to run due to a bad case of the flu. It killed me not to run, but I did a lot of reading on the subject and decided that if I tried to run too soon, I could relapse and have to take more time off.

Today, I still have a headache, cough, runny nose, and my ears are really plugged, but I felt good enough to give running a try. I set a goal to run for at least 30 minutes and I ... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 18:36:50 EST A Year in Review Well, I just celebrated my 1 year Sparkversary. Looking back 32.5 pounds ago.............Well, let's just say I felt like I would never make it this far.

I started out great a year ago with the Spark Program; Sparking everyday by checking in with teams, posting within the user community, tracking, etc. for about 3-4 months and as a result lost 12 pounds. Then, I stopped the program, went back to old habits, and put the weight back on.

In August, I really got serious ab... Fri, 28 Dec 2012 15:17:27 EST 3 Recent Achievements My SparkCoach challenge for the day was to think positive by listing 3 recent achievements. So here are mine:

1. I ran my very first 10K in 55:02 minutes.
2. Lost 31.5 pounds total with 2.5 to go to goal.
3. Finished my Christmas shopping by December 2.

but I have one more.......

Last, but not grandmother passed away this morning after 98 years of life. Family drama has reared it's ugly head. In my short 49 years I have learned tha... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 20:41:12 EST Kudos for me! Well, I began this journey, seriously at least, in August. I am down 30.5 pounds with 3 pounds to go before December 21. I had my yearly physical yesterday and the doctor commended me on my weight loss and exercise routine. I am in great health overall. She wanted to know how I would feel if I didn't make my goal weight by my goal date. I told her that I feel I have done my absolute best and have made some great lifestyle changes that have not only helped me to lose weight, but also help... Thu, 13 Dec 2012 14:57:26 EST YOU CAN DO IT! Well, I am 5 pounds away from my weight loss goal and 2 days away from running my 1st ever 10K. I feel great and I'm more confident and happy too. I'm starting to get more and more compliments from folks who have noticed my weight loss and how trim I'm looking from running. I am now at the weight I was 12 years ago when I married my sweet husband.

This morning was my final training run before I run my 10K. It was very emotional for me as my coach told me how far I've come since... Wed, 5 Dec 2012 13:16:42 EST Be a Serious Sparkie! Wow! I can't believe I made it this far, but I have about 6 more pounds to lose, then I enter the weight maintenance phase. I technically started SparkPeople December of 2011, but didn't really take it seriously or begin to give it my all until August of 2012. Since then, I have lost 28 pounds. I wish now that I would not have waited so long to take it seriously. But, I am glad that I did, at least.

If you are hesitating to really make changes, I encourage you to reconsider. ... Wed, 28 Nov 2012 15:48:52 EST Happy Thanksgiving! It's my favorite day of the year; Thanksgiving. It is a day to count all of our blessings, even the small ones. I find that when I focus on the things that I do have and not on the things that I don't, I am a much happier person. We had a great Thanksgiving church service on Sunday night. The pastor talked about how grateful and thankful people are happier people and others love to be around them. That's the kind of person I want to be. He also shared how thankfulness needs to be procee... Wed, 21 Nov 2012 23:09:51 EST Do it Anyway! So many voices run through my head when I'm trying to plan my daily tasks, exercise, meals, etc......I didn't want to go outside in the cold this morning. I suffered from a migraine yesterday and felt really tired and didn't want to run this morning. I went out and did my 10K Training Run anyway. I was proud of myself and it occurred to me during my 4.5 mile run that my "Do it Anyway" mentality over the last several months has contributed to my weight loss success and my feelings of overal... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 11:44:30 EST Almost There! Well I am about 10 pounds away from reaching my goal weight. I feel better, have more energy, and the compliments are starting to roll in too. I feel great about my accomplishments. Fitting into my smaller clothes that have been packed away for a while feels wonderful! I forgot how much cute stuff I had. Even these clothes are fitting a little looser and I need a belt to keep my pants sitting on my hips/waist correctly.

I am starting to get comments that I am looking too thi... Thu, 8 Nov 2012 14:10:18 EST Haunted by Halloween Candy! Well, I almost lost control yesterday. I was prepping for our Church's Annual "Trunk Or Treat" night and almost went overboard on the candy! I bought about six, 5 pounds bags of candy and totally made a mistake when I bought my favorite....."Strawberry Twizzlers."

Oh my! I felt haunted.......I could literally smell those sweet things through the sealed bag, so I broke the bag open and started eating without even thinking. I only ate the equivalent of about 3 vines (they are Hal... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 11:47:32 EST Listening to my body Well, 10K Training is well underway and I am even running some 5Ks and them some on my longer runs. Though running gives me lots of energy and helps to relieve my stress and clear my head, my schedule in the passed week has worn me out! I have been feeling really tired and even thought I may be getting sick at one point.

One of my SP Team member/Sparkfriends reminded me to listen to my body and rest when I need it or when I have joint or other aches and pains. That was great adv... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 13:22:24 EST 10K Training Begins I love running sooooooooooooooooooo much! I finished my 5K program, received my certificate and now am on my way to training for a 10K.

I have had some hurdles along the way; a former ankle sprain gave me issues, calf muscle pull, runner's knee, and a bursitis in my hip. I have overcome most of them (with a lot of help and encouragement from my Spark Friends) by rest, ice, heat, and really taking care of myself. I still did it!

I pretty much run a 5K (and then some)... Thu, 18 Oct 2012 14:29:26 EST Reach for the Sky! Well, I'm well into Week 8 of my couch to 5K Training Program ( I have proven to myself that I can do anything that I set my mind to and work at consistently. The final week's PODCAST Training Coach did an excellent job of compiling wonderful music and other surprises for us as we complete our last and final week of the 5K Training Program. So far, I have completed 2 of the 3, 30 minutes of running. One more, and I graduate. I can officially say that, "I am a runner!" Woohoo!... Wed, 10 Oct 2012 10:39:17 EST Rising Above the Hurdles Well, I'm into week 7 of my 5K Training program. Next week is the big finale as I complete week 8. It hasn't been an easy road, but it has been a learning experience. I have learned so much about myself, about running, about my body; and most importantly I have learned that I can rise above the hurdles that come my way if I choose to and work at it.

My first hurdle was the fact that I was embarrassed to be 34 pounds overweight, 49 years old, and I was worried about what the teen... Tue, 2 Oct 2012 10:36:03 EST Injured on my First 5K Run. I ran my very first 5K on Saturday running the first mile without stopping and in 12 minutes (started at 18 minutes a mile 6 weeks ago)....Woohoo! I am only doing my training on a rubber track and during the 5K we had to run on the grass, the sidewalk, hills, stairs, etc. What I feared the most happened; a running injury. I felt pain in my knee after the 2nd mile, but didnt take it too seriously. Now, I have what they call Patellafemoral Pain Syndrome; AKA runners knee. Not a lot of pai... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 08:51:27 EST Positive Thoughts Every Day - #1 I have a book on "Thinking Positive Thoughts" that a friend gave me for my birthday several years ago. I recently picked it up again and began reading it for a second time. It is one of those books where you read one short page/chapter each day. I think I'll like to share it with you.

The first entry is almost like a prayer or benediction. It says:

"May every day of your life bring you fresh hopes for tomorrow -- because hope gives all of us our reason for trying. ... Mon, 10 Sep 2012 09:31:54 EST No More Fear! Okay, so tomorrow and every Friday morning is my weigh-in day. Typically, I am a nervous wreck the day prior to weigh-in, fearing I haven't lost any weight. Well, no more. I have seen SparkCoach videos and read many articles from SparkPeople on why the scale is not the only indicator of my progress for weight loss and fitness.

So far, I have noticed my clothes fitting looser, I want and crave healthier food and beverages, I feel better about myself overall, and I even feel trimm... Thanks for all of the great comments on my blog. I learned a lot from all of you. I mentioned how self-conscious I was with teenagers hanging around the track and all. Well, no more! I just concentrate on what I am doing, and I'm getting great workouts.

The first week I ran the training intervals 5 times; 3 being the ... Wed, 29 Aug 2012 14:04:49 EST A Lesson in Positive Self-Talk 362

This week I decided to try running again and set a short term goal for myself to run a 5K. I would eventually like to run a marathon, but "first things first" as they say.

I found a really cool (and free) Podcast that helps train for a 5K. It uses incremental walk/run intervals taking 8 weeks to complete. It has great motivating music and a coach that chimes in every once in a while to motivate and talk you through each interval. Working at a minimum o... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 16:23:00 EST Anxious about the Scale Each week (usually Thursdays) is my weigh-in day. I'm always a bit anxious when I know it is time to step on the scale. What if I didn't lose anything after all of that hard work of exercising and eating the right foods? I have to mentally prepare myself in the case I did not lose anything. I tell myself to keep in mind that the scale is only one factor in my journey to success. In December of 2011 I set out to lose 5 pounds per month by June of 2012 for a total weightloss of 30-34 pounds. I am happy with my progress so far. I made my first 5 pound goal almost two weeks early! I owe it all to finding SparkPeople. I love the site, the support, encouragement, and the education I receive on living a healthier life. I picked up a copy of the 28 day boot camp DVD by Coach Nicole this week. Love it! I am also a reader of "The Spark." If you have not picked up yo...
