I have never made it this far before except once. I made it 30 days. This time I want to go way past 30 days, and I need encouragement on the way there. My weight loss is 23 pounds thus far. When I fasted 30 days, I lost 24 pounds. So it is about the same thus far.

Hay fever season has hit, and I found myself unable to sleep last night. I had the running nose, sneezy, itchy eyes, just all over itchy, some coughing. In short, I... Sat, 20 Sep 2014 18:16:06 EST The end of the summer kale season, the chance to try new veggies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5737811 I am trying not to mourn the end of the summer kale season. But is happening. I managed to buy 10 dino kale at the farmer's market but was warned that would be little or nothing by next week. The summer heat burns up the kale, makes kale a bug fest. So the kale season is done in my area. I bought 10 dino kale, perhaps 10 dandelion greens, 1 fennel because apparently it really is like the happy veggie, and 2 cilantro, 2 parsley. I have an intense craving for parsley, and I think this is... Yep, it turns out that the building construction that was so rough for the past many weeks is now right below us on a Saturday morning. I found the loud noise disorienting when it was next door, all around me. I could barely think and definitely couldn't make phone calls.

But I live in a major city where I hear constant sirens, sometimes helicopters, cars and trucks honking... Sat, 12 Jul 2014 10:37:06 EST Trying Out NatureTint Hair Dye and Detoxing Heavy Metals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5736154 Today I bit the bullet. I didn't just go get my hair cut because it looked ghastly. (I looked like a sheep dog after a wild time.) I decided to try Naturtint hair dye sold at Whole Foods because the pharmacy brand I usually use has so many toxic chemicals. Even without ammonia!

To be honest, I dreaded putting any hair dye into my hair. My body is moving away from all this. All the building construction going on around me, including paint fumes, dust, etc., means that my body... And i realized I could get that way, too, out of desperation.

It works like this. One person is desperate to share something he or she realized. There might be a week or two more if I am lucky, but kale does not do well in hot summer. For some reason, the bugs love kale even more then, apparently beetles most of all. But it isn't just that. Kale can become tough and bitter. And that is when the flowers start to grow instead of the kale leaves. Something like that.

That gave me something to think about in the summer heat, sw... So this is a good day for a walk, even with the heat.

Today is also the day I hear drilling just below my humble abode. The construction happening next to me reportedly is done. On such a hot and humid day, i was dripping with sweat, like rain coming off me. Not a pretty sight. When I got to the main building, I was told by a very nice woman at the front desk that I would not be granted a researcher pass. Because they were incredibly picky who they let in. They just were. Maybe longer? And give off some type of fumes for a year? If the walls were painted with high-VOC paint, that actually could be happening. High-VOC paint means a paint high in volatile organic compounds (VOC), and high VOC is not a good thing.

It is 3:30 a.m. in my humble city abode a month nearly a month after construction began in our building. Fri, 27 Jun 2014 04:43:36 EST I Have Something Important to Tell You About Pesticides And Health http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5726697 I have something important to tell you about pesticides. Recently I watched a bee dying after it was exposed to pesticides that someone thoughtfully hosed all over flowers, trees, and other landscape near a national park. The bee died in the national park, shaking violently, having seizures. It could not fly, it could not walk, it could not even stand upright. But it struggled so hard to live, so hard to stay on course, so hard to grab at the very pollen that was killing it.

I ... Thu, 26 Jun 2014 22:18:43 EST I Need Positive Energy and need to tell you about pesticides http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5725687 I am in the fourth week of the building reconstruction program that came our way by surprise. I have suffered more than three weeks of walls being crashed in, pounding, hammering, drilling, sawing, and dust so thick that it was like giant white clouds billowing in our hallways and near the elevator. And yes, it got under our doors and into our lives, making it sick.

Then came the paint fumes that made it so hard to breathe. It was clear that high-VOC paints were used, the ones ... I am learning about that! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5724915 i am learning more and more each day to pay attention what gives me energy and what drains me. For instance, I am going back to juicing and raw vegan foods because that energized me. Getting away from that, even a hint of dairy or processed foods was draining. Also being around paint fumes, dust, pesticides, air pollution, etc. was incredibly draining.

Something else can be draining is being near energy vampires. I Had to go off them on Juice Fast http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5724484 What do you think about supplements? There was a time I took a lot of them, so many, because I heard I needed them to be healthy. Over time, I used to hear about heavy metal contamination, the dyes in them, all kinds of mystery contents that aren't shared with the public. So I stopped taking so many. Plus a few of them might have made my hair start to fall out or something like that.

When I was on the juice fast, I learned I wasn't supposed to be taking supplements over all. T... I felt so good on the green juice fast, so energetic, so calm, so focused, enjoying clarity. Then I was engulfed in so much construction dust while still on fast. Then I ended up sucking in so many horribly strong paint fumes and even bug spray from a building spraying.

I struggled through, but then over the weekend, i was out a lot. After all, the water was shut off for two days to make repairs. But i was wrong. I had just made a huge vegan guacamole and had my morning carrot ginger juice to start the day. I ran errands to ensure I got out birthday cards on time, only to discover that all around me, painting was the major project. I Am So Happy About That! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5720282 Tonight I realized this for sure just as I was about to go to bed. Four months ago, my jaws were locked so tight that I had to push a banana through my teeth. I could barely open my jaws enough to get any food in and had to eat a sandwich sideways, little bites. I wasn't even sure I could go to dentist appointments because I couldn't really open my jaws. When I did travel, my jaws healed some, but mostly because I had to take Advil for my knee. And yes, there was less stress. My locked j... So here it is: Given all the challenges of late, I have decided to end the juice fast today, day 28, four weeks after starting. I am down 19 pounds and have many inches off. Most notably, I have 2 inches off bra band size, putting me at the lowest size in ages. But my biggest joy regarding inches off is having almost 8 inches off of stress belly. Only this time I didn't know they were continuing the practice. So I wasn't prepared to get out of my place on a moment's notice. Early this morning it was a rude awakening to shower, get my lemon water, then before I could even make my first juice of the day, to have the loud knock. The bug man was there with his big bottle of poison for the mandatory spraying throughout t... I found that doing a Kundalini yoga dvd, at least part of it, followed by meditation for a half hour to be a tremendous relief. The storm passed, and because I was on a juice fast, I could not have averted what I needed to face by eating giant bags of my favorite popcorn, making my favorite guacamole, or whatever else I might have done.

I had learned long ago tha... I learned that 10 years from now, strep throat could be fatal if the U.S. does not stop the overuse of antibiotics. It isn't just in the medical setting where the overuse of antibiotics is a major factor. Eighty percent of all antibiotics in the U.S. go to factory farming, to routinely feed factory farmed animals in inhumane settings. While Europe has bann... Just a bite. Or Two. Luckily I had a Mason jar full of very dark green juice left from earlier in the day. Once I drank that, I was good. More than good. For me, Day 21 is just the start, but I am so happy to get this far. This is when emotional healing is said to begin, as well as much deeper healing at the cellular level. In fact, it is the sense that my body is healing from old injuries and surgeries that kept me going when I was tempted to stop the fast days earlier.

To be honest, I could have probably been down a... I admit to being uneasy that somehow the stinging part will get into my juice and down my throat. What if the juicer misses something? I bought stinging nettles for the first time this weekend, remembering that stinging nettles are supposed to be so great for hay fever and allergies, not to mention many other purposes.

But when I got them home, it was like wresting with a tiger to put those stinging nettles into the juicer ... About six months ago, i was struggling through to make it to Day 18. There was a reason I had to make it that far. Siong Norte of "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" juiced for 17 days after suffering for years, even decades, from serious migraines, the kind that would put her into bed for days. In the past 15 days, I have left 15 pounds behind me that I will never gain back. That was travel weight and preparation for travel. I am so happy that I stuck with the fast when I had two recent days where I was getting hungry, no matter how much green juice I drank. That passed, and I was so glad I stuck to juicing.

Now I am facing other challenges as I am at a location where a lot of work is being done. It... Everything has been going swimmingly over all. But today I've hit a few rough bumps. One of them is that I now have a headache and can't figure out why. Maybe I haven't been drinking enough water. Juice fasts require a lot. Maybe not enough green juice. I've just made myself another very green juice. For the past 10 days, I have had nothing but juice from my own juicer, plus coconut water and plenty of filtered water. I've met many people who can't believe that anyone can still be alive after 10 days of nothing but juice. After realizing this, most people seem really fascinated to know more and find out what I will be like in 40 days. Can anyone live on 40 days of nothing but juice? The answer is a resounding yes. I am on Day 6 of a green juice fast and am at a sensitive point. I am in major detox mode not just physically but mentally and emotionally, too. For me, the juice fast is also a spiritual journey. That is more typical of what i lose on juice fasts. It becomes more important to me because much of the weight loss is in the first 14 days, according to some juicing experts. I really do need the weight loss as well as all the healing that comes from a juice fast.

I have noticed my lower back is a bit tired so I am doing yoga from my Kundalini dvd today. My Breville will be on overdrive once again, having to keep up with the juice. I almost always start the day with a carrot-ginger juice, then head to the green juices. I admit that on the first few days of juice fasting, I now sometimes drink 2 liters of coconut water to start. Somehow it seems to make it easier to ease into it. i then cut back to 1 liter of coconut oil as soon as I can. <B... Wed, 21 May 2014 08:11:52 EST My Favorite Nearby Hiking Place Was Covered in Sewerage Four Times! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5699461 Some time back, i was going to post photos of one of my favorite places to hike and get a bit into nature. In Washington, D.C., it isn't always to get back to nature. It was a nasty surprise to find out that national park lands have been flooded with sewerage at least four times in three weeks, massive spills that even required Hazmat teams.

There were times before that I thought I smelled something a bit foul coming from nearby pipes as I walked the trail. But it there for a... Tue, 20 May 2014 19:16:08 EST On Day 2 of green juice fast, I am down 4 pounds and have great recipe http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5699124 On Day 2 of the green juice fast, despite it being a more challenging start, I am down 4 pounds from yesterday. I drank at least two liters of coconut water because I seemed to need it. It helped with the hunger as well. While I didn't have the typical detox symptoms that first-time detoxers had, I was unusually hungry. This weekend I ate more than I usually eat, and my body knew it. And it wasn't just more popcorn.

Today I am still a bit tired and slept longer last night th... Tue, 20 May 2014 10:20:41 EST On Day 1 of green juice fast, I am a bit hungrier... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5698375 Today is really and truly Day 1 of my long-term juice fast. And I've already had to make two carrot juices, drink two glasses of water, a bit of prune juice, and will likely have to make more juice now. The first 2-3 days is when people still have hunger when doing a juice fast.

Yesterday i was at a delicious brunch and ate more than I needed. It was all so good and mostly very healthy. Now my body is adapting to 100 percent juice, not even a banana. I know the hungry part wil... Mon, 19 May 2014 11:22:19 EST I am into dandelion detox juices and popcorn, Monday is Day 1 of fast http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5696482 Today I faced reality and knew that I was setting myself up for failure if I went 100 percent juice this weekend. Would I really sit there drinking Mason jars of green juice on a potluck picnic AND a brunch? So I am going Day 1 on Monday, going mostly juice now. Mostly dandelion juice now.

This morning I was astonished to realize my weight dropped 5 pounds overnight. The biggest change was eating more popcorn and doing some really intense Kundalini yoga from dvd which was hard ... Fri, 16 May 2014 14:43:58 EST Today I start my green juice fast, celebrating with dandelion detox juice http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5695483 Today I start my green juice fast, Day 1, celebrating with dandelion detox juice. It is a gray, cold, foggy day in the city, and I am more than ready to start Day 1. In many ways, it isn't the most convenient time. I have two social engagements this weekend that could mean I reboot for 2 days, adding 2 days to my fast. But I have postponed long enough and now I am more than ready for my green juice fast.

For several says I have been into popcorn, maybe several weeks. No more. ... Thu, 15 May 2014 08:12:34 EST Finding a New Sunscreen: The Environmental Working Group Helps http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5694271 The Environmental Working Group has a very useful database for finding out what kinds of chemicals and toxins are in sunscreens and products for beauty, personal care, cleaning, etc. After a checkup today, I vowed to look into finding a sunscreen with the 1 rating from EWG for the fewest toxins and the most protection.

I learned that the one I used most now is a 4 and has a much higher rating for allergic reactions. It is time for me to try a new one, and after I saw an email f... Tue, 13 May 2014 15:29:59 EST Organic Cilantro and Parsley are great heavy metal detoxifiers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5694188 This morning I headed to Whole Foods to buy organic cilantro and parsley. Thankfully they had plenty of both in stock. Both cilantro and parsley are said to be great heavy metal (and blood) detoxifiers. I put an entire bunch of cilantro and half of the bunch of parsley into a green juice that included dino kale, cucumber, celery, and ginger. All I needed to add was dandelion greens, which I forgot to buy, but also is an amazing detoxifiers.

Already I think I feel better than ... Tue, 13 May 2014 13:13:20 EST Finding Safer Hair Dyes and Sunscreens http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5693483 For some time, I have been working on replacing any beauty and personal care products that have too many chemicals in them. And I am definitely heading in the right direction. For instance, I use Tom's toothpaste instead of the Crest Whitening toothpaste I used before and I did away with the chemical mouthwashes that actually are not good for dental health at all. Those mouthwashes kill off the good bacteria.

My efforts to go "no poo" did not go as well as they did for others ... Mon, 12 May 2014 14:39:13 EST
