GFYOGAMOM's SparkPeople Blog GFYOGAMOM's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community HAPPY to have NEW GOALS!! Over the past two rounds of BLC and the past few years of life, I have struggled at setting new goals for myself... After reaching my goal weight, I've often been too busy focusing on everyone else to really focus on any major "changes" for myself. My efforts often are spent in the wrong places, doing what is easy, convenient, and has "always worked." This pertains to many areas of my life, but they all manage to roll into one main issue... I have neglected myself for too long and it's ti... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 16:34:37 EST FOUR WEEKS & BEYOND We are EIGHT WEEKS into BLC21!! How time flies, when you're having FUN!! What an AWESOME couple months I have enjoyed as Captain of Golden Phoenix!! I've recently realized how IMPORTANT it is to remember to focus on MYSELF, while trying to keep up w/everything else (family, church responsibilities, and BLC duties). I've always heard that WOMEN, as natural "nurturers," have a tendency to forgo taking care of themselves to attend to others!! I admit I absolutely fit this description!! How... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 20:01:48 EST 2013: CHANGES AHEAD I suppose many people take this opportunity to blog about how they will make changes in the year ahead. Hopefully, changes that will make them healthier... AND I do have and will share some of those, but 2013 will bring some other changes in my life and my family's life!

Two major changes involve my daughter... She has shown some tendencies toward ADHD (like her mother). She is very smart and generally very well behaved, but she has a hard time focusing and staying on task an... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 21:18:06 EST THE ROAD AHEAD - 3+ YEARS MAINTENANCE!! It is absolutely AMAZING that BLC20 is nearly over!! These 12 weeks have blown past, but have been AWESOME!! I have found a group of amazing women w/whom I've developed friendships that I'm confident will last a lifetime!! I've learned so much about myself and had a major epiphany that has completely rerouted and improved my outlook, mental state, and my family's life, too! I've tried and learned to integrate new forms of exercise and finally added to my power yoga/treadmill routine!! Today,... Mon, 3 Dec 2012 20:35:11 EST BLC20 - THE LIFELONG JOURNEY CONTINUES Here we are, at the halfway point of BLC20... So, far I have generally SUCCEEDED in the plans I laid out at the beginning of the challenge. However, I have also addressed some "hidden issues" (mostly stress related) and am beginning to make some beneficial adjustments!! Update on my plans for success:
220
SUPPORT & ENCOURAGEMENT
I have been relatively successful in keeping up with the team chat thread. Due to my schedule, I tend to get a bit behind on Mondays &... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 20:32:46 EST A PLAN FOR THE WEEKEND AHEAD... AND BEYOND!! This past weekend was a bit rough... I simply wasn't myself, I felt "crummy," and really just didn't want to do anything... I didn't want to exercise, didn't want to eat, didn't want to engage in any of the usual weekend activities, etc. I just shrugged it off as a bad mental/emotional weekend. We all have those, right?? After battling depression for many years and now being off any sort of depression meds for 5+ years, relying solely on prayer and exercise to mend my mind and heart, I'm ... Thu, 11 Oct 2012 21:29:33 EST BLC20 - Plan for Success To succeed in any journey, you must have a plan. Since I am participating in BLC20 as a MoM, my primary objective is to provide support and encouragement to my team members and other participants. Of course, I also want to maintain my current weight, work to strengthen my body, and continue to improve my overall health. I strive to push myself and others further than ever before. In a previous blog, I shared that I have a "buddy" for BLC20, my older dog, Skyy. Since there is no BLC for Doggie... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 14:21:24 EST BLC20 - BEFORE Since I am participating in BLC20 as a MoM (Master of Maintenance), I felt that I needed to do "more" for my "BEFORE" photo. Obviously, I am seeking to maintain my current weight. So, it is difficult to expect a significant change in my "BEFORE" and "AFTER" photos. However, based on a suggestion from my chiropractor, two of my goals for this challenge are to strengthen my abs and buttocks. He recently said, "While you are very thin, you really need to work on your abs and butt. You need ... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 09:51:46 EST Yoga for Beginners If you are interested in Yoga, here's a good starting point:

BREATHING EXERCISE

1) Sit in a comfortable position (on the floor or in a chair).

2) Hold your spine as straight as possible.

3) Sit squarely, evenly distributing your weight between your sitting bones.

4) Close your eyes.

5) Gently close your mouth. Breathe only through your nose. This allows your body to retain all the heat it produces. A warm body aids in flexib... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 22:38:37 EST
