GETTO140's SparkPeople Blog GETTO140's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Spark Anniversary yesterday, 2/23/2018 I didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but I celebrated my 13th YEAR on Sparkpeople yesterday!!! I found it through my employer's wellness page and got hooked immediately. I have had great success and not so great success. I keep coming here for the inspiration, help, support and friendship I've found over the years. Sparkpeople has grown so much over the years and I still tell people about it! SPREAD THE SPARK!! Thank you, Spark Guy, Spark team, Spark people! You're all the be... Sat, 24 Feb 2018 08:54:20 EST Monday, 2/19 I woke up at 4 a.m. today and couldn't get back to sleep. I decided to get up early to get my day started and I've already accomplished a few tasks. I'm sure I'll crash later this morning or this afternoon so I'll rest when that happens. I have some dogs to walk today (including our own), so I'll get my walking done later. 313 Mon, 19 Feb 2018 06:47:05 EST Quit some teams Today I cleaned up my teams. I removed myself from those teams I haven't been active with in a very long time, not because I don't like the subject. The ones I'm staying with are the ones I really need at this point!

Going to clean up my spark friends the same way. I'll see who's active or not and remove those who are not. Getting some spring cleaning done a little early! 376 Sun, 18 Feb 2018 11:29:09 EST CSA - first time A local farm here in upstate NY was offering a winter CSA. I've been interested in trying one for quite a while and thought it was a perfect opportunity. They offered a couples portion....perfect for just me and my husband. Today I picked up the first box and am very pleased. It also came with 1/2 gallon of apple cider. I think we're going to enjoy this. Sun, 14 Jan 2018 13:34:45 EST Christmas sweater Luna modelling her new Christmas sweater. Have a great Saturday! Sat, 16 Dec 2017 07:23:33 EST Halloween 2017 Nothing about food or exercise....just a picture of our dog keeping guard against all the trick or treaters last night. I'm surprised she still has a voice today. 20 Wed, 1 Nov 2017 11:18:24 EST Business is good! But that equates to not going to the gym. I'm a professional pet sitter....yes there is such a thing. I had many jobs near the gym I joined so it was convenient to stop before, in between, or after jobs. For the last 2 months I haven't been near the place so I haven't gone. It's a pretty pricey place, so I decided not to renew. Boo! I met some nice people there. I don't see my schedule lightening up any time soon. I know I can get a good workout at home, but it was nice to do it away fro... Sun, 9 Jul 2017 09:10:45 EST Reducing sugar and sweetener intake I never thought I could give up sugar or sweetener in my coffee, but I did it!!! It's been 2 months (maybe longer) since I added it. Baby steps!! Tue, 14 Mar 2017 09:07:50 EST Can't stop eating.... I can't seem to stop eating a lot in between meals....and at meals. I eat so much more than I need to...and not "good" foods. I know what to do...I just can't seem to execute it. I still go to the gym I joined earlier this year, but it's not helping me lose weight because I haven't changed one thing about how I eat...and I've probably gotten worse. I do feel better in some ways and even miss the gym when I can't get there and I'm proud of myself for sticking with the gym. Why oh why oh w... Fri, 30 Dec 2016 19:02:06 EST Time to step it up Earlier this year I joined a gym. I have been going 3 days per week for the most part; recently started adding an extra day at home using something from Sparkpeople, YouTube, or my own stash of videos. Although I haven't measured myself in a while, I noticed the other day that my arms aren't as flabby. I'm still struggling with diet issues and I haven't lost a pound. I had my blood work done last week to see where I stand on the inside.... most numbers were good except my cholesterol was o... Sun, 21 Aug 2016 07:40:45 EST Spark anniversary yesterday I just saw a reminder that my Sparkpeople anniversary was yesterday! I started logging and measuring on Feb 23, 2005! I have seen many changes in this website over this time in the way it looks, some of the tools, the exercises offered, the app and much more! But the basic idea of Sparkpeople has never changed. Take things one step at a time, track, track, track, track (once I stopped tracking because I thought I knew it all, I gained again), and participate in this community. These are ... Wed, 24 Feb 2016 08:38:47 EST One week at the gym On Thursday, I completed 1 week going to a gym. When I joined the gym, I got 2 free sessions with a personal trainer...good deal! My first appointment with a personal trainer is on Tuesday. One of the fitness instructors just started a "Fitness over 50" class last Monday so I joined in that group. It's 3 days a week and perfect for just getting started and back into the regular exercising routine. 362 Sun, 24 Jan 2016 08:50:03 EST Time to find a gym and personal trainer Apparently I can no longer do this on my own, even though I know what to do. I just can't get motivated to do anything these days as far as exercise and healthy eating go. I don't get in enough walking during the day to count for much. There's no reason why I can't take 1/2 hour to an hour a few times a week (to start) to exercise. This week I committed to myself to stop at 3 gyms that are near me to talk about what they have to offer. I need someone to help me at this point...a professio... Tue, 12 Jan 2016 10:55:11 EST Working on a challenge I'm working on the walkabout challenge I found her under the official Sparkpeople challenges page a few weeks ago..

e.asp

It's really been getting me back in the swing of things as far as exercise goes. It reminds me every day of what I need to do for that particular day. It doesn't take much time out of my day (any time to exercise is really worth it!) Today is day 14 for me and my rest day! I have always enjoy... Thu, 5 Mar 2015 10:10:42 EST I don't blog much I'm not much of a blogger; the last time was in August, 2014! After retirement I've made a new life for myself by starting a pet sitting business. I'm so happy now!! I've always wanted to so something with animals but I wasn't exactly sure what I would do. I dreamed of owning a doggy day care for the last 10 or 15 years. I took small business classes, observed a local doggy day care place, talked to the owners of a few, and used the internet to learn more about them. I volunteer at a l... Tue, 24 Feb 2015 10:24:32 EST How do I get my Spark back? I'm so disgusted with myself lately..more than lately..I just can't get my Spark back and it shows in every way! My weight is up, my numbers are up and I feel like crap about myself especially when I see pictures of myself. Why can't I get myself going? It's been a few years now since I have let myself go again. I KNOW what to do but I just can't get myself going. I don't get it...why can't I get a grip on eating and also do my exercises? It seemed so easy at one point and I loved it. ... Fri, 1 Aug 2014 23:10:51 EST I've "Retired" As of March 31, I will be officially retired from my current employer of 32 years. I had some time to take off as well so starting today I'm done working for a while until I find my next job. I'm very ready for the change and looking forward to trying something new (not sure what that will be yet). It's a nice feeling to wake up and not have a real plan for today, although, my first "plan" for my time off is to scrub my house inside and out! It's been so neglected because my job was so bu... Wed, 26 Mar 2014 07:46:24 EST We lost our Wyatt on Saturday Saturday morning, Wyatt was not acting right. He wasn't able to lay down and be comfortable, was drooling, vomiting a little, panting and he just didn't look good. I called the vet and we brought him to be looked at. After an exam and Xrays, a huge tumor was found around his spleen. He was in a lot of pain. He would have been 11 in June. We could have brought him to Cornell which would have been about a 50-minute drive to have it MAYBE removed successfully and only if he didn't also have... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 13:55:16 EST YouTube I like to find exercises on YouTube so that I don't get bored with my workouts. I like to search for exercises for women over 50 simply because I'm still building back up in regard to fitness. Today I found a walking one by Jane Fonda. I really liked it. It was about 30 minutes from warm up to cool down and it was very enjoyable. Got me going for the day and I felt like I got some exercise. 311 Sat, 25 Jan 2014 14:14:26 EST It's Wednesday It's below zero again. I don't walk my dogs in this weather and it's hard on them. They don't understand. I play games with them but it's not the same thing. Last night I kept them out of a few rooms and hid treats all over for them to find. That lasted about 5 minutes...they found everything. Next time, I'll make it more difficult. I think tonight we'll play agility with some small jumps and maybe something to duck under (like a tunnel would be). It's going to be below zero again t... Wed, 22 Jan 2014 07:17:58 EST Not a normal Spark topic. How do I stop my kitten from biting? We have never had a young kitten before. All of our cats have come from shelters as adults and none have been biters or scratchers. We took in a stray kitten and now she's about 8 months old. If she starts to bite or scratch me while I'm up during the day, I tell her no in a firm voice and walk away from her and ignore her for a period of time. It seems to be working. The problem is at night in bed. She snuggles up with me and for a long time is so sweet and cuddly and adorable. But if... Tue, 14 Jan 2014 08:04:46 EST Enjoying my Spark Activity Tracker I never thought I would be a gadget person, but I'm really enjoying my Spark activity tracker. It's been a big help to me in getting that "spark" back I've been missing. I can't wait to see the little green circle of lights go around in a complete circle (that means I hit my moving goal). Soon it will be time to increase my goals a little which means I'll have to increase my movements a little as well. It's been fun for me!!! 543 Mon, 13 Jan 2014 07:29:16 EST Happy Monday Now that the holidays are all over it's back to full work weeks again. Work is stressful these days. My weight keeps creeping back up and up and up. It's because I'm not mindful of what I'm doing every day...too many binges, too many buffets, too large all adds up! And exercise...I don't push myself.

One of my new goals is to substitute eating for cleaning something in my house. Over the last 3 days I have organized and cleaned a few cabinets. Last night I org... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 07:01:50 EST Nice, short work week I love this. Between yesterday and today, I got things set up for 2014 at work as well as cleaned up some e-mails. Not many people seem to be back from the holiday break yet and it's nice and quiet. Others retired on 12/31...I didn't get a chance to say good bye to some of them, but luckily they provided personal e-mail addresses in their farewell notes.

It's a cold -4 here this morning (-27 wind chill). I did Walk Away the Pounds this morning and that will probably be the o... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 09:12:21 EST Back to work today At least there are only 2 work days to ease back into the daily grind. I LOVED being off from work during the holidays. I was able to clean out a closet (a much-needed activity), organize a cabinet, take down the Christmas decorations AND put them away, and get some paper work done that had been pushed aside for quite a while. It feels good to have those things done. I visited with relatives who came in from out of town and I also had plenty of time for some much needed rest. It was all ... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 07:58:10 EST Happy New Year 2014 is here!!! 104 409 185 9 244

Wed, 1 Jan 2014 06:37:50 EST I love being off! I've been off work since last week and I've been really enjoying the extra time. I got some rest that I may not have if I was working to heal from my fall. Today I am not in much pain and began to slowly do some walking (had to walk the dogs!). I also did some balance exercises I found on YouTube.

I could get used to this "being off" Mon, 30 Dec 2013 14:35:20 EST Fell again Some force doesn't seem to want me to exercise or something. Again, I was just getting back into the routine of exercising in the mornings regularly (and making some good progress) and on Wednesday I tripped and fell over the vacuum cleaner! Fell right on my ribs on my right side..lost my breath for a few moments. Luckily I got up and don't have anything broken, but I'm still in some pain today. Feels like bruising (I didn't go to the Dr.). I took it easy and iced it on Wednesday. <BR... Sun, 29 Dec 2013 10:47:59 EST 66 degrees in December? Last weekend we had a snow storm and got about 10 inches of snow. I LOVED IT! This weekend it rained and today it was 66 (my car thermometer) so now all the snow is GONE! I WANT SNOW!!

Sun, 22 Dec 2013 17:02:05 EST The last Monday of July I haven't been paying close attention to myself over the last few years. Oh..I've been looking at the scale, pictures, clothes etc...but not paying attention or disregarding. I just saw another picture of myself and it's my OLD self back again. I'm angry about this. So now I have to start over. So I'm wondering if I just just close my account here and start all over with a new one from the beginning as if I were new? Or should I just reset everything I have here from my account and star... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 11:45:25 EST Monday again Weekends sure do go by fast! Yesterday I gave my gardens some much needed TLC. Got about 3 hours of fun exercise in! They are back to looking good again. My veggie garden is struggling a bit..maybe because we've had so much rain. My cucumbers didn't really come up good at all and should be much bigger by now. Same for my swiss chard. My tomatoes are doing good. Hardly any green beans, either. What's up with that? Is it the seeds? I tried several different good brands and got the sa... Mon, 1 Jul 2013 07:52:29 EST I thought I did good last week I went on my first deployment to help with the OK tornado animal victims last week. There was a temporary shelter for them and I was working in the small dog area. I worked my butt off!! My clothes were starting to bag on me. I thought for sure I lost a few pounds, but I didn't! In facted I gained a couple. In addition, my feet and ankles are so swollen! We were required to wear boots while working and the days were very long. It was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done and... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 14:23:21 EST Monday again The weekends go by so fast! Here it is Monday again. I wasn't very good about tracking last week..I must say I do get tired of it after a while. I can remember when I started out here I loved tracking and looking at my reports to see where I was with my goals. I also have a spreadsheet to track my weight and inches lost. Those tools are very motivating for me because I can see my results in graphic format. To me, inches lost are just as important as weight loss. I may lose inches but... Mon, 13 May 2013 08:58:02 EST Beautiful days for garden work! The weather has been absolutely perfect for over a week here. We are far ahead of our outside work it feels wonderful! Sunny and 70's!! That is perfect to me! Tomorrow night I plan to til up my vegetable garden area and get it ready for planting in a few weeks. This is the earliest I've ever been able to do that. I'm hesitant to really get planting because it could still get very cold, but the fact that I can get it ready so early is GREAT! Usually I have to wait until the end of May t... Mon, 6 May 2013 06:40:15 EST I'll call this my give-back day! I'm involved with a group from my church who is planting a garden for our local community food bank. This morning we will be working on the garden for a few hours. This afternoon I'm going to the animal shelter to help with what ever they need help with. Usually it's laundry, walk dogs, playing with cats and kittens or putting supplies away. On top of it the weather is absolutely PERFECT today!! It's going to be a great day! 67 267 45 338 ... Sat, 4 May 2013 08:24:37 EST Tuesday My thoughts and prayers are with those in Boston and those who were personally effected by the senseless bombing yesterday at the Marathon. I am also praying for the first responders who rush in to help while others are rushing away. Also the morgue attendant, coroner, and health care workers who are treating the injured. I'm sure there are long-lasting scars in many forms after such a tragedy. I don't understand such evil. For the life of me, I don't get it. 39 Tue, 16 Apr 2013 07:29:34 EST It's Monday! Things are going good for me right now. I'm still using the meal plans provided on the nutrition tracker. I have tried several new recipes because of it using things I didn't think I liked...but guess what??? I LIKE THEM!! I never ate yogurt before because it tastes like sour milk to me. At least that's what I have always thought. If I combine fresh fruit with greek yogurt I am finding that I love it. I never would have even tried it before. I don't taste that sour-milkyness (is that ... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 08:45:35 EST Monday, April 1 - no JOKE! Ugh..I saw a video of myself from yesterday. It wasn't pretty AT ALL! I'm working at it. 24

450 452 448 Happy Easter! 296 Mon, 1 Apr 2013 07:01:03 EST End of week 2 using the meal planner Since I've been using the meal planner on the nutrition tracker, I've lost 2 pounds. I'm really enjoying trying the new meal ideas. Breakfast has been something different most mornings. Today for lunch I had a tortilla with cream cheese, walnuts and dried cranberries (I substituted these from the raisins that was suggested) and made a wrap out of it. It was absolutely delicious! The other day I had a pizza made with a tortilla, fresh tomatoes, olive oil and provolone cheese. Another gre... Fri, 29 Mar 2013 13:06:29 EST Day 3 of following Spark meal plan Things are going well with my trial of the Spark meal plan. The nutrition tracker is flexible enough so that I can add my own foods if there is something I don't like. This morning I ran my nutrition report for Sunday and yesterday only to see that I'm right on track!! How simple is that!!!?? My husband doesn't even notice...he's eating what I'm eating and not complaining at all. This is what I needed to get re-energized! 20 Tue, 19 Mar 2013 07:58:45 EST Trying Sparkpeople's meal plan for a week I'm going to give the pre-planned meal planner a try for a week to see how I do. I'm getting tired of trying to always think of something new to try, so I thought this might be a fun way to do it! I planned my week last night and then printed the shopping list right from the nutrition tracker! How easy is that!!?? I already had quite a few of the items, but it was fun shopping for the things I didn't have. One thing I noticed is that I went right by the snack aisle. I have been trying n... Sat, 16 Mar 2013 12:48:48 EST Monday When I woke up this morning I didn't want to exercise at all. But then I thought about my "whining" week last week toward exercising and it made me realize that I don't want to be THAT person. I want to be healthy and fit! I got up and did a Coach Nicole video. YEA! 386

Yesterday I went for two nice walks and washed our van and truck by hand by myself (my husband has a nasty cold). But, oh...those darned girl scout cookies! Why are they so good!?? I'm not even... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 08:35:11 EST I did it! Today I got up and exercised first thing. I felt so much better for doing that! Yea me!!! 104 Fri, 8 Mar 2013 10:09:48 EST Time to get back on the stick Ever since I had that last bad afib attack, I haven't gotten back into my exercise routine. I'm not sure why I can't/won't get going. That seems to be a pattern for me the last few years....I get back in the groove and I get sick with something that is bad enough to make me stop for a day or longer; sometimes over a week! Then I practically have to start over again. I have to say I'm getting tired of that. I have to go some place tonight, but I just got my exercise clothes out for the mo... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 18:30:20 EST Today is my Spark anniversary I just checked my e-mail and found a reminder from Sparkpeople that today is my 7-year anniversary with Sparkpeople! WOW! I started tracking on February 23, 2005. It doesn't feel like it's been that long at all. I've learned so much from this website. I've had great moments and not so great moments. One of the many things I learned is that I have to stick with it. I could easily slip up and go back to my old ways if I'm not vigilant with myself every day. I'm made plenty of mistakes,... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 23:56:19 EST Sunday night already Weekends are always too fast. Time for work again already tomorrow. I hope this week will be better than last week. Sun, 3 Feb 2013 21:18:15 EST My dogs won't let me be lazy I've been walking my dogs at lunch time and now they know the schedule. They actually start getting excited about an hour before lunch. Yesterday it was kind of cold and I was thinking of skipping the noon-time walk and do it after work. They would have none of that! I'm so glad they are my walking buddies and help to keep me going. It turned out to be a nice walk (two walks really...I walk one at a time) and I felt so much better after. As it turned out, I wouldn't have had a chance to... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 07:29:04 EST Didn't sleep good I was sleeping great, but then one of our dogs got me up to go out (which is normal). I can usually fall right back to sleep, but I had a hard time this time. I got up for about an hour and just sat in the dark for a while to try to get relaxed. It must have worked because I went back to bed and fell right to sleep. I planned on doing TaeBo again this morning, but I stayed in bed a little extra and decided to do a 10-minute SP video instead. I'm proud that I did something!! Wed, 16 Jan 2013 07:47:27 EST Made a mistake yesterday I went grocery shopping yesterday and loaded the cart with fresh vegetables and fruits to have them for our snacks for the week. I thought I had more will power over the Terra chips I bought yesterday, too. To me they are delicious! I started out with the serving suggested on the package and was happy having that as part of my lunch. I put the rest of the bag away. By the end of the day, however, I finished the entire bag (boy, those bags have gotten smaller!) Ooops...that wasn't a good... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 09:45:02 EST TaeBo today I did an older TaeBo DVD this morning that I have...the basic bootcamp one. I used to be able to do that one with the bands!! Wow!! That is amazing to me since I could hardly get through it today without them. LOL. So now I have something to work toward...getting back to the workouts WITH bands! 216

I love the TaeBo series of workout DVDs. They are fun and it feels like Billy Blanks is right there in the room with me motivating me to keep going. I think they ... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 08:23:04 EST
