Three weeks ago I started on the Paleo Diet starting with guidelines from Whole 30. I am finally back to my posted Sparkpeople weight. I worked my tail off this past summer to get under 180. No matter what I do, I always find myself coming back to SP when it comes to staying healthy. Since my last Blog in July I have stayed busy and active. I am still teaching Spin classes at 5:30 am 2 days a week. I did the Bisbee 1000 stairclimb in October. A week later, I did a dual-Athlon. Finished 2nd to last but I did it! Lady weekend, I did my first. Half marathon. Best confidence builder ever. I know I can do a marathon and finish it...I t won't be very fast but I will finish it. Since... Fri, 25 Jan 2013 21:35:39 EST I want to work out! Had a great vacation to Monterey And San Francisco last week. I am sure this was the last vacation I have where I had all three of my kids together. The Navy is sending my oldest son to Nebraska and my daughter is headed off to New Mexico State University. We really enjoyed the trip. It was a tad chilly after being in AZ but that didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves. Somewhere on the last leg of the journey, I are something that didn't agree with me. I put in 2-3 hours each day at the gym except for the 4th of July ( 1 hour at the gym and an hour of yard work). Most of my workouts were cardio. <BR> <BR> <BR> I taught my Spin classes on Monday and Friday then went to 2 other spin classes. I did cardio kick classes, group power and ran on the treadmill. On Weds. I did the stair climbing machine and the rowing machine. They worked very different muscles. Tomorrow morning I am go... Sat, 7 Jul 2012 01:00:10 EST Great workouts today! I started my day teaching Spin at 5:30 a.m! I had a great, energetic ride. I made a slideshow of fireworks and flags that was playing on the tv while we rode to some great Patriotic music. I encouraged everyone to wear red, white and blue and gave out party hats to the first five people on their bikes. It was a good feeling since it was only my 10th class. It went over very well. My plans for a half marathon were shot down by a nasty fall on roller blades. In April I decided to get certified to teach indoor cycling. It was a good decision as it helped redirect my mind fom my job. I began teaching Spinnig on June 4th. I have the 5:30 am class three days a week. I have 8 classes under my belt. I think this is the motivator to really stick to a plan. I have lost 5... Sun, 24 Jun 2012 11:23:01 EST Stair Climb Had a great run at the Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb yesterday! It was warmer than I like it to be. I was ready for it physically but I quickly realize the hills on a treadmill don't compare. The elevation ranged from 5400-5600 feet ( the town I live in is about 4000). Stairs weren't a problem- running uphill was the problem. <BR> Next year I am going to practice running those hills before the event. I was pleased with my time. Now, my goal is to get ready for a half marathon! <em>104</em> Sun, 16 Oct 2011 23:33:42 EST Ran 6 miles today Feeling good. Went to the gym and got on the treadmill for a 6 mile run. It was a beautiful day and I should have run outside but I figured the numbers on the treadmill would keep me motivated. I ran at 12 minute mile pace. I have always been curious about them but didn't know anyone who had one. Sun, 7 Aug 2011 00:15:24 EST biopsy today I had abnormal mammogram last week. I had a suspicious looking lymph node under my right arm. Today I went to Tucson and they did a needle biopsy of it. It is almost 5 years to the date that I had a sentinel node biopsy and was diagnosed with cancer. Can't really celebrate 5 years cancer free until I get the biopsy back. <BR> I had blood work done a few weeks ago and everything was within normal ranges- I didn't follow up on tht e test with the cancer markers but I would hoped the oncologist... Got up at 5:30 am for a 5 K that started at 7 a.m. I really didn't train for the race- made the decision to run the race 2 weeks ago. I probably ran 4 times before the race. <BR> I did really well the first 2 miles...the 3rd mile was hard. It was on a rocky trail. The Arizona sun seemed so hot yet the trail had shade. The city says the trail is .75 miles. My body is not so sure. I will walk it later with my phone. I love the early morning Arizona sunrise. I hope that it inspires me to get out and run each day. I won the body transformation contest at my gym! I weighed in last month but another session of the contest was going on so they didn't announce the winner until this week. It was great!... Sat, 21 May 2011 20:57:35 EST boot camps It's been a few weeks since I last blogged. Today ended the biggest loser challenge at the gym. My weight loss wasn't great- 5 pounds in 2 months but I was encouraged by a 7.2% loss of body fat and losing 3 inches off my waist. Since I really haven't been watching what I have been eating, I am happy with the results. I did a 2 week bootcamp at the gym for abs- it was 4 sessions total. I am in the 2nd week of another bootcamp. This one is every day and we alternate cardio outside with weights ... I have been trying to make sure my students understand the science and math they need to perform a lab tomorrow for a lesson I am recording for National Board Certification. I worked out hard this week so I skipped the gym this morning and traded it for sleep. It's too beautiful of a day to stay indoors though. Mon, 21 Feb 2011 16:37:47 EST long hike yesterday After my 2 classes at the gym, my husband wanted to go hiking. We ended up hiking 8.5 miles. The trail we went on was 4 miles across, 4 miles back..and then a half mile up the road to get to our car. The trail was full of climbs that would have had me out of breath a year ago. It was a windy day. The worse part of the trail was it was covered in rocks so walking it was difficult. <BR> At the end our of hike, we hit a geocache. Ate a chili dog ( madras lentils) and Veggie Sticks- not vegetables- they were in the chip section at Costco. They taste like fries...130 calories for 36 sticks. They were good. I brought chicken feta sausage ( yummy and low cal). 1 person brought fruit and 2 others brought salad. Loved the Kale and red pepper salad! The Spinach berry feta was amazing. I was so thoroughly satisfied by the flavor combinations that I didn't crave something sweet after eating! And made it through another day with no sweets...
