Mon, 26 Jun 2017 09:45:38 EST June progress http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5721991 1/2 way through June and I've been exercising pretty much every day. I've been definitely mixing it up between swimming, aerobics class, elliptical, walking and biking.

Muscles ache which is good.
Mood goes up and down as I've been down this road before and want to be 1/2 through this as opposed to starting over. It seems it slower this time.

Overslept this morning. Probably because my body is asking for a break - hahahah - so instead of hitting the gym, I may ju... Fri, 20 Jun 2014 09:33:17 EST Adding Planks and Eliptical to my program http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5710680 My son told me that I need to really work on building up my core. He said PLANKS and SQUATS were key.

So I started doing Planks -these are really hard. I can barely do 60 seconds for the first time and 30 seconds for the 2nd. But I figure if I keep doing a few each night I'll get better.

I then added Elliptical. This means going to the gym and going into the weight room. I normally just use the pool. This is another new exercise for me. I can barely do 10 mins. <B... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 16:40:18 EST Enjoying retirement http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5696293 Still working out the kinks but am getting in more exercise then I was working and enjoying it.

I tried Zumba for the first time. What I learned is I definitely have no rhythm but it was a great work out trying to keep up with everyone.

Am getting in water aerobics in the morning and occasional bike ride with DH at night.

Although not as tense still trying to figure out how to relax but I guess that will take time.

As a side project I have been goi... Fri, 16 May 2014 09:55:59 EST Paducah - not what I expected http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5688252 As I've been quilting for some time now, how could I pass up a visit to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah KY? As the museum opened at 10 we spent the first hour in Paducah walking around the river front. The murals were excellent with a slice of time in the history of Paducah. It was a short walk and quite enjoyable. At the end of the murals was a steam engine which my husband took a ton of pictures of. We then meandered our way over to the museum as it was just about to open.
... Mon, 5 May 2014 17:43:43 EST Hello world - I'm still here and now retired http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5682683 Who knew it was so much work to retire. I was buried the last few months getting ready to retire. Training my replacement, making sure everything was backed up and so many details.

Now I don't need to think about this anymore. Wow will I be able to adjust to the lack of constant demands.

I've tried to start setting up new habits. Waking up still early but now leaving for the gym for either lap swimming or aqua aerobics class. Sorely missed those the last 2 months (w... Mon, 28 Apr 2014 19:59:45 EST Day 51 - another snow storm http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5627624 Just got in from my cardio exercise of shoveling snow, clearing the car, and then a short up/down our street. I even got a spin on the snow blower. Man my husband makes it look so easy - even though its self propelled its tough. Either that I'm such a wimp.

Today was exciting because at work they announced my impending retirement and replacement. I still have another 6 weeks of work before vacation then retirement but its getting so close.

Oh its so beautiful outside... Tue, 18 Feb 2014 19:13:15 EST Day 49 - I love the snow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5625478 I see all these postings of people who are tired of the snow and are looking for the warmer weather. I am not on that page. Shoveling now adays are a lot easier then when I was young - my DH mans the snow blower and I shovel the walkway, clear the car and break down the burn at the end of the drive by plow.

We're usually out 30-60 minutes and I get a good workout in which breaks up my traditional routine.

I love the crisp air and being outside. Now don't get me wrong,... Sun, 16 Feb 2014 11:24:32 EST Day 48 - Snowing again - nice day to quilt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5624900 Watching the Olympics and making trips to my dining room which 2nds as my quilting room. Have been working on a quilt with a lot of pieces and many curves to it. I've got 2 rows done out of 6. I really like the effect. I'm already thinking about what borders I want to put on this to accent it.

We got to the grocery store before the storm hit. Filled up on veggies and fruits.

Pretty soon I'm going to spoil myself and take a nap. Sat, 15 Feb 2014 15:58:22 EST Day 43 - Great weekend away http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5620229 We spent the weekend at Sugarbush, VT at a car ralley. Had a fantastic time. Even won another weekend (or our choice) to go back. As we're not normally cold weather ducks - I suspect we'll wait until warmer weather.

I did brave the cold and swam in their outdoor pool - the water was warm - in the high 70s. The air outside was frigid - closer to 10 degrees. The only drawback - getting out of the pool to dash back inside in your wet suit.

I also made use of their weig... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 10:04:13 EST Day 31 - another night inside http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5609458 The cold air is keeping me inside. Although the pool has had 2 days with the new filter, the idea of walking out with damp hair is not enticing to me. I think I'll hit the bike again tonight.

Jeopardy and my recumbent bike is becoming a great marriage.

Working on a new quilt. Quit involved with the piecing. I'm taking it very slow. I have to make 30 - 9 patch blocks. That was the easy step.
I am now cutting curves on all those individual blocks and sewing in... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 17:41:40 EST Day 30 - Pool was closed need an alternative http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5608476 They closed the pool the last 2 days - fixing and cleaning the filter. So hopefully tomorrow is back on the grid. In the meantime its Jeapordy and my recumbent bike.

I've become addicted to downloading free books. I love my hard cover books from my hard and tried authors. But I finally did break down and by a Kindle as some of the authors I follow are publishing novellas only as e-books. So I caved and bought myself a Kindle. Then my husband found this place where you registe... I did increase my distance a tad though today. It's fascinating to see how long it will take for me to get back to the distances I used to walk (pre-hip surgery). My pace is slower, my distance shorter but I am improving.

Today is a baby shower for my niece. Going armed with a water bottle and hopefully I'll be able to select foods which are healthy for me.

I made a beautiful quilt for her baby girl. <img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpe... All depends on the weather. I don't count gains/losses during the week as its what happens on monday. But I like to monitor during the week - Just in case.

Well - my body was revolting. Although I was eating I got the shakes which usually tells me FEED ME - I need more calories. So I ate more than I normal yesterday to address those dang shakes. AND I skipped my exercise. Never good to exercise if my body has the shakes - usually due to not... Tue, 21 Jan 2014 11:03:39 EST Day 21 - Day away to see both kids http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5599450 Early morning drive to NJ to see DD. We dropped off my grandmother's hope chest (cedar) for her and took her out to lunch.

We waited for my son to arrive home from Singapore. Quick dinner at Bone Fish - primarily appetizers and then a drive back home. Overall 500 miles for our round trip day.

No exercise planned
Calories a little high outside my range
Blogging - yes

Overall a really nice day Sun, 19 Jan 2014 21:42:45 EST Day 20 - Taking a walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5597827 The first time I went down this adventure I used walking as my primary form of exercise and really embraced it. I would walk1-3 miles 5 times a day and quickly lost 40 pounds. I was surprised how quickly it came off. BUT...... it uncovered a severe problem with my hips.

An orthopedic surgeon and 2 hip surgeries later (not at all related to the previous walking) I had to change my primary exercise and took up swimming. As much as I love swimming it does not have the same quick a... Temptation is all around me. I normally I bring lunch and provide a healthy lunch. But sugarless wafers do not mean calorie free wafers.

I got home and jumped on my bike - rode for 25 minutes.

Friday is normally my day off from exercise as I do a lot of driving and like to come home and veg.

So
Exrecise 248
Calories still within my range but higher than normal 2... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 19:14:30 EST Day 18 - Staying strong http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5595913 Sometimes in the morning this effort to get my weight under control is daunting. I have to make a concerted effort to think ' Yes I can do this - one step at a time'
Its a whole mindset. You have to be positive as there are so many opportunities to get dragged under and think 'Why bother'.

I really like the new START page format. I like reviewing my goals every morning and when I feel that hesitation I go back and review it during the day. I set these goals. I identifie... Thu, 16 Jan 2014 12:21:45 EST Day 17 - Another good day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5595080 I've had the munchies all day. Cheese sticks and carrots kept me honest but it was a high day on calories. Although if I count my exercise I was well within my calories.

Today was liver and onions for dinner. I know most of you would think yuck!!! But the way my DH cooks it - its very tasty - but high caloric so we don't have it too often.

Did a little extra in the pool today over the norm.

Exercise 248
Food 248
Blog ... He couldn't reach us so reached out to his sister who got him on another flight.

We came in after everything was settled. Nice that our kids can rely on each other in an emergency.

Curled up and read Christine Feehan's latest book. Couldn't put it down. Inhale and exhale - ahh so nice after almost a week of stuffiness due to the flu. Guess getting the flu shot this year didn't help as much as past years.

Appetite is finally back to normal.
Still a bit lethargic but I suspect that will be improving as well.

Looking forward to the weekend. Thu, 9 Jan 2014 13:18:57 EST Day 10 - Full day back at the office http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5587210 I think that flu is finally in my rear view mirror now. I can still see it but now I'm hoping distance will continue to happen. Nose is a little raw from the last few days. I'm finally out of bed and moving slowly. Head is still stuffed up but I'm feeling so much better.

Although I got on the scale this morning and saw it go down 3 pounds, it doesn't get counted unless its still gone by next monday. I'm suspecting that is mostly water weight and the fact I ate very little over the last 3 days and I'll gain it back once I'm back to eating normally.

I'm not missing my exercise too much as I go swimming and ... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 09:05:26 EST Day 8 - 2nd day of the flu http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5584667 Rarely left the bed today.

Exercise and food not on the list of things to do. Stuffed head, aches and leaky nose as well as very tired throughout the day. So my plans of swimming this morning didn't happen. I stayed in bed. I puttered around the house - a little quilting, and napping. Keeping the kleenex close at hand as I used it throughout the day.

Exercise 55
Calories 248 If not a little lower than I should eat. But with ... Sun, 5 Jan 2014 16:22:23 EST Day 6 - Got a lot accomplished today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5582181 Who needs a gym when there is a driveway of unshoveled snow waiting for you to clear? It was a joint effort and my husband manned the snow blower while I tackled the shovel. In 30 minutes it was all cleared. Including the extra drop at the end from our snow plow.

Then off to exchange gifts for my son. Both Dick's and Kohl's quickly exchanged work out clothes for my son to his size.

While we were out first to a local quilt shop to buy fabric for a special quilt. Th... The snow plowman was so nice he left us a 3 foot burn to take care of at the end of our driveway.

We did go out for 15 min and shoveled around our cars and the walkway as well as cleaned off our cars, leaving the rest for tomorrow when we pull out the snow blower. But I'm counting those 15 minutes as exercise. And it was a nice change from the bike inside -... Now I know I have a recumbent bike, and a treadmill but I find that boring to do. So easy to stop before my workout is complete. I also can do some of the videos on SP but I miss the companionship I get at the gym.

Today 20 min on the bike for 4 miles. 248
Planning to stay in my calories - even making choc chip cooking for hubby which I won't eat any. But he loves them so. Can't let him suffer when he does... I'm hoping to at least do 10 minutes each day of some exercise.

I'm finding I like carrots - raw as a snack. Tue, 31 Dec 2013 18:20:32 EST Time to restart with a vengeance - Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5575857 I did quite well the 1st half of 2013 losing 20 pounds prior to my hip surgery. Then after my surgery and I was recuperating. Although I needed a higher caloric meals to aid in recovery, I was not able to exercise as strong as I did previously. Result - gained weight back. Sigh - sometimes it feels like a vicious cycle.

The good news with both hip surgeries behind me - I am able to move and bend in ways I haven't been able to do in years. Organizing old phots, scanning them in, and giving the originals to my cousins so they have photos of their parents and grandparents.

Also working on reducing my stash. Slowly building up the strength in my leg. He really wants me working on my flexibility as the strength will come naturally with time. He's very impressed with my progress - I get the impression this progress is not normal - but given it was on par with where I did last time - if not a tad ahead - its normal... Sun, 23 Jun 2013 09:46:13 EST Friday - 25 days post surgery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5388749 Well I have graduated to one crutch this week. Makes moving around and getting my food so much easier. Sleeping has improved a lot but still find myself occasionally crashing in the afternoon. My appetite has come back in force - I'm constantly hungry. I'm not denying myself the calories (which is right now double what I normally eat) because I expect its there for a reason to help the healing.

The bruising on my upper thigh is so much better and the incision looks real nice. ... Overall the surgery went very well. Somethings did change from the preivous time - specifically the nausea. As I don't take much medication at all - when I do take it - it affects me. Trying to work through the nausea. The doctors did get me some medication to help with - but not sure if its working.

Appetite - basically gone. Been barely eating since Monday. Lucky if I ate even 500 calories any given day and tha... Fri, 24 May 2013 18:14:28 EST Saturday - what do you do with a wavy quilt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5360442 Argh.... I went outside my comfort zone and did a design which was very complicated. I knew it was not going to lay flat but I'm stubborn and I was going to force it. I stretched it and really reduced the puffiness but it still doesn't lay flat.

I was going to do a QAYG (Quilt as you Go) so I could really quilt the devil out of the center to flatten it as much as possible and then add borders. Now I just want to fold it up and put it away and not add any more fabric to it. ... Sat, 18 May 2013 18:34:17 EST Saturday - 9 days to left hip surgery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5352936 9 days to surgery and although I've been down this road with my right hip already I'm still nervous. Got in some swimming today which is usually nice and relaxing but today there was someone in the pool who was extremely obnoxious. I cut my work out short to 30 minutes because I just didn't need or want the added aggravation.

Working on a new quilt. I know I wasn't going to start a new one but it called to me. I call it my jewel quilt as it looks like a giant quartz jewel. Thi... Sat, 11 May 2013 09:50:46 EST Thursday - How do you minimize the onset arthritis of the hands? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5350761 Lately I've been thinking of my mother and grandmother. As they aged they suffered greatly with arthritis of the hands. Their fingers would curve into a claw-like form and any detail work requiring the use of their hands would be difficult.

I noticed that my thumb joints have starting having a calcified build-up. This tells me I will eventually suffer the same as my mother and grandmother. In my recent physical I asked my doctor about it and she said just keep using my hands to... Thu, 9 May 2013 09:16:22 EST Wednesday - Quilting is a workout http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5350280 Man - decided to stay at home tonight and working on my quilting of my flying geese quilt. Wow what a workout. Moving the fabric up and down and in swirls for an hour and a half really gave my arms and shoulders a work out. I know it doesn't count towards normal exercise but it sure beats watching TV and I got my quilt almost competed. Still need to work on getting the right tension as I did have my spider stitches on the back every now and then. But phew.....

OK I know you n... Wed, 8 May 2013 20:43:25 EST Tuesday - another interesting quilt to do http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5349019 Oh man DH will not be happy I stopped off and picked up another quilting book of an interesting quilt. That in itself won't be the issue, the issue will be I'll want to make this a large bed quilt again which means getting it quilted to be put into my backlog inventory. That is what drives him crazy. Ahh but we have our quirks - it will get used eventually and I will find a home for it eventually.

Swimming tonight got in 50 minutes in the pool.

Tue, 7 May 2013 20:00:59 EST Sunday - quilting progress and back to the pool http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5346502 Ahh was a great day. Woke up early off to drop off one quilt to te long arm quilters. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I'll get it back end of June.

Then off to the local farm stand for fresh vegetables and fruits. Yum.

I tried out this new battiting which you iron to the front and back of your quit top and back. I was leery on how it would work. First had to find a wide top to iron it on. The batting itself was much thinner than I liked when I unrolled it. I... Sun, 5 May 2013 18:14:33 EST
