Fri, 12 Sep 2014 16:29:27 EST Can you believe this????

I was on Spark People last night and suddenly this pop up comes on and my computer locked up. If you can 't read it, it says "National Security and Government something or other.

It says my computer has been encrypted and I must pay $300. to get a code and unlock it. It is worded in such a way that I was so upset. It's called "scare ware". It's meant to scare someone and get money out of... Tue, 9 Sep 2014 19:07:17 EST The mother of all yard sales!! I am getting ready for the biggest yard sale I've ever been involved in. We have a flea market in Stormville, NY that is on an airport grounds. So much fun and it's on all the holiday weekends from Memorial Day to Columbus day.

Once in the fall and once in the spring they have what they call the "Ultimate Yard Sale". You can buy a table and bring all your "stuff" from home and get rid of it.
'
After 20 years here, two kids that have left the roost, believe me I hav... Sun, 7 Sep 2014 12:32:50 EST Summer's over??? How can that be??

Summer is my favorite season. I love the warm weather, the wearing sandals and tee shirts and the easy life summer seems to bring. It just goes to darn fast!!!

Now that my son is off at college, I am preparing to figure out the rest of my life. I want to move and have pretty much decided to go south. I have lived in NY most of my life but I hate the winters.

It makes me sad to say good by to summer. It was the most beautiful summer I c... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 10:03:26 EST This is a dorm room???? As promised, here are some pictures of my sons dorm room. When I went to college we had a single bed, shared a dressed and desk and shared the bathroom with the kids in the next room.

My son lives in a suite. It's an apartment like room with 5 boys and four bedrooms. One is a share, the rest are singles. He has a single.

The room consists of a full size bed, walk in closet, his OWN bathroom, a ceiling fan/light, dresser and desk. Unbelievable!!!

<img src... Sun, 24 Aug 2014 09:40:31 EST What an ordeal!!!! I'm back! Taking my son to school was much more of an adventure than we anticipated!!!

The first days drive was fantastic. We drove from NY to Richmond VA. It took about 8 hours including stops and that one little bit where we got lost LOL!! We had so much fun. We were singing and laughing and learning about each others music. I taught him about Janis Joplin and the Doors and Stones, and he taught me about Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. What a wonderful bonding experience!!! ... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 09:49:44 EST It's time..... My son and I start the journey of his college life today. We have been packing like crazy for days and today we will load the car and be on our way.

It is both such a happy time and a sad time. He is my "baby" and when he is gone, I will have no one home but the cats. I can't help but worry about him because, unlike my daughter when she went off to college, he just isn't that mature. Boys I guess, but I worry.

We are taking two days to get there. It's 700 miles away ... Wed, 13 Aug 2014 08:09:05 EST What a bummer :( I have been doing great the past few months with exercise. I like to walk and since I bought my fitbit, I can't allow myself to go under my 10,000 steps a day. It keeps me honest.

I have been having pains in the arch of my right foot. I was finally able to get to the foot doctor who took x-rays. He was horrified and said I had a HUGE heel spur which has caused me to have Plantar fasciitis. This is an inflammation in the ligaments of my foot. It was so bad I had to have an ant... Fri, 8 Aug 2014 09:27:01 EST Doing the right thing as a dog groomer I have been a dog groomer for over 35 years. I have a unique business as I make house calls in New York City. My clients are the rich and famous and it's a great job as I make my own hours and days I want to work. I work in conjunction with several vets who recommend me.

Today, I got to a client's house whose dog has many skin problems. The vet, who I know, left a special shampoo that had been formulated just for this dog. ($120. for the bottle!!!). The shampoo had no instruct... Tue, 5 Aug 2014 19:33:30 EST Look who's leaving.....

Hard to believe this sweet baby is leaving for college in just a few weeks. I love this picture because it reminds me of how adorable he was and how I loved to just hold him. I miss those days and just wonder how in the world all this time passed so quickly.

He is my baby, the youngest. I have been a single mom with him and his sister since 2006. When my daughter left for college it was ok be... Sun, 20 Jul 2014 08:00:19 EST Leaving on a jet plane...... So excited. My son and I are leaving in about an hour for SC and his orientation at college. I get to do all the "Parent" things and he will be going to info meetings, meeting with his advisor, and taking a math placement test. He will be much busier than I will be but, I am hoping to see the rooms he will be in.

I want to take some measurements so I can get curtains, rug and bathroom stuff. I'm such a mom LOL!!

Very excited here. My first glimpse of the school as h... Wed, 9 Jul 2014 09:07:47 EST Busy week ahead! My son and I will be going to a huge flea market this weekend. We are trying to gather as much stuff as he will need for college in the fall. It can get costly so this will help.

They need so much stuff. Linens, and towels and shower curtains and in my son's case, things for the kitchen because he will be in a suite.

Since his dad is moving, he will get a lot of stuff from him but we're excited about shopping and picking things out. I have to say it's much easier... Sat, 5 Jul 2014 10:38:41 EST So sad, so tragic This week has seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I have been so incredibly happy for my son, with his graduation and he is going to lots of parties. I have been invited to a few myself. This Sunday, I am throwing him a brunch with friends and family to celebrate. So many blessings.

Today, I got a message from a girlfriend that has thrown me for a loop. We have been friends for over 40 years. I was the maid of honor at her wedding. I remember how she struggled ... After so much work, so much heartache, he is a high school graduate. I was so choked up during the ceremony but it's over and he's accomplished something so special.

My son has some (minor) special needs so this was even more exciting. We went to dinner at a VERY fancy restau... Thu, 26 Jun 2014 08:17:26 EST Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all. I miss my dad every day and feel like the luckiest girl on the planet to have had such a great father. This is the two of us from a very long time ago. I cannot believe he is all grown up!!!

Next month he goes to orientation at college and in August he enrolls college, leaving home. Ughhh my baby is leaving me!!

I'm so proud of this child. He has had a very tough time an... Tue, 10 Jun 2014 21:18:43 EST What Memorial Day means to me This is the weekend of reflection. We remember our fallen heroes. Without them, we wouldn't enjoy the freedom we have in the wonderful country we live in. Most of all, I remember those I have loved dearly and fought for this country. My dad, (the best dad ever!) lost his right arm, just above the elbow in WWII. I never knew him any other way. This wonderful man came home, went to college, got married, got a job and raised his family. Wow, what a guy. I was so lucky he was my dad. He a... Sun, 25 May 2014 10:31:18 EST Happy Mother's Day! Wishing all the moms and the women who are moms to those they didn't give birth to a very Happy Mother's day. I hope this day brings you all peace, love and tranquility. 214 Sun, 11 May 2014 08:19:47 EST When it rains, it pours! So much has happened in the past couple of weeks. I turned on the spigot to the front of my house and the water poured out from the ceiling in my garage!! Arghhhh

The plumber came and found three burst pipes. Two in my garage and one in my foyer. They cut holes everywhere!!

The good news is that it's all covered by insurance (thank goodness) and I was able to get it patched and I got a new paint job in the foyer and all the way up the stairs on that one wall. It loo... Sat, 10 May 2014 21:17:57 EST life as I know it It's been a while since I've blogged. Time just seems to fly by. It has been a tough time for me.

Next week we go to trial for my divorce. This has been a long time coming but it makes it no less painful. You think you know someone and find out you have no clue who they are.

I hope it's over soon and I can move on. I am going to have to move, now I will have to figure out where. It's going to be quite a year next year!! Thu, 8 May 2014 19:46:00 EST Passover Next week starts the holiday of Passover. It is kind of a labor intense holiday . Special foods, special meals, lots of company.

It is my favorite holiday but this one has special meaning. It may be the last one in this house and the last one with both my children here. When my son leaves for college he will be 15 hours away and won't be able to come home. I am grateful that he lives near my niece in S.C. and she will gladly take him in. Maybe we will all go there next year. ... Sat, 12 Apr 2014 11:56:56 EST It was 23 years ago today..... I am finding it hard to believe, but it was 23 years ago today that I gave birth to the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! My daughter has been such a joy. Sure, there have been challenging times but I wouldn't give that up for anything. She now lives about an hour and a half from me. She has a great job and a boyfriend and a life. My college graduate!! I miss her but am so proud of the incredible woman she has become. I'm leaving shortly to take her to brunch with my son!!! (of co... Sun, 23 Mar 2014 08:35:59 EST He's in!!!! Yesterday was one of the happiest days of my life. My son, who really isn't a very good student was waiting to hear from the college he really wanted to go to.

He applied to 8 schools. Right away, three schools said "no" and one school deferred him (which is pretty much a no anyway). He was really down and felt like he was never going to get into a school.

We kept checking the status of his applications online every day but to no avail. They kept asking for more and ... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 10:33:38 EST The Beatles I am snowed in today and getting a chance to see things I have taped. I am currently watching the Beatle special. Wow!!

I was very young when the Beatles came to America but I remember it. I was madly in love with George Harrison :)

This special is so fabulous and the music brings tears to my eyes. Very nostalgic. If you haven't seen it or get the chance to tape it, do! No matter how old you are, you will love the music. There really were brilliant.

I m... Thu, 13 Feb 2014 09:31:29 EST My winner!!! Yesterday, was the divisions wrestling tournament. It is a precursor to the sections tournament which will take place next weekend. You have to place within the top 4 in order to participate in the sections tournament.

The top 16 schools send their top four in each weight group. When the wrestling season started, my son would say, "I don't care about any of the tournaments, I just want to win divisions".

Well, he DID!! My son, who wrestles at 152 lbs., took FIRST P... Sun, 9 Feb 2014 09:39:46 EST Ouch!!! This morning I had a sonogram guided needle to put cortisone into my thumb joint. If you are wondering if it hurt, well YES!! It was awful!! He said, "You'll feel a little pressure"....anyone remember that line from childbirth?? Yeah, that translates to PAIN!! It's ok now, the cortisone should kick in in 2 weeks. I am then going for physical therapy to strengthen the muscle that goes from the thumb to the wrist. It will stave off surgery. Apparently, they can give you a new thumb joint, just ... Fri, 7 Feb 2014 07:42:49 EST It's a start! I haven't been doing well on eating healthy and exercising. I just have so much going on in my life that sometimes I feel paralyzed.

I have some stomach issues and when I do some walking it makes it a whole lot better. I have to go to court today (again) and get very stressed. I don't have much time but....I jumped on the treadmill, figuring that 10 mins is better than nothing.

Half hour later, I'm done! Yes, I have to hustle now but I'm so happy I did this. Small s... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 08:09:21 EST A Winner!!!! I just returned from from a two day wrestling tournament. What whirlwind!! My son, who wrestles at 152 lbs was with one of 14 schools participating in this. These boys wrestled time after time.

I cannot even express how proud I am. My son, his two best friends on the team (Brian, 120 lbs and David, 160 lbs), all placed in third. That really is huge! There were hundreds of boys there and make it to the top 6 is incredible. To come in third, was, well WOW!!

I am j... Sat, 18 Jan 2014 22:16:34 EST Happy Birthday!! 18 years ago, New York was in the middle of the worst blizzard it had seen in a century. In the middle of this, I gave birth to my precious son. He was born screaming and has made his presence known ever since.

He is my youngest child. I can't believe he's 18 already. We have been filling out college forms, deciding what he wants to study and I am finding it hard to not cry. This fall, I will be alone.

How did my little boy, who drove me crazy running after him, ... Mon, 13 Jan 2014 17:05:27 EST Happy New Year! Wishing all my spark people friends (who are like family now) a wonderful, happy, healthy new year!! I wish you joy, peace and all that you want for this coming year! Tue, 31 Dec 2013 16:09:08 EST More good news about being wheat free If I wasn't convinced before, I am now. I just had my mammogram and follow up sonogram. I have to have this because of the lumpectomy I had in '09. (that lumpectomy turned out to be benign, but since it was "pre" cancerous they watch me closely).

I usually have lots of cysts but nothing alarming. Today, after the sono, nothing, not even a cyst. The tech asked if I was doing anything differently and I had to think about this. Then I realized I stopped eating wheat. I told her this ... Fri, 20 Dec 2013 13:09:27 EST Lesson learned As many of you know, I went wheat free. It didn't seem that big of a deal and was quite easy as I'm not much of a bread eater.

Over Thanksgiving, I had a little (yes, I had a bit of stuffing) but not much. of my clients gave me a giant Panatone. My son wanted to know what it was, so we opened it.

One thing lead to another and we ate some, made some french toast with it and so on. The day after I had a little headache. I had a little more of the bread ... Fri, 13 Dec 2013 08:38:56 EST Wheat Free I have decided to go wheat free for a while. I was going to try it for a week but today, a week is up and I'm going to keep going.

I do not have a problem with wheat but, I have learned that wheat today is not the wheat we ate as a kid. Most of it is GMO and it's just not that good for you.

My first reaction to being wheat free was never being out of the bathroom. I just (not to be crude) peed my brains out!! Somehow, I lost a huge amount of bloat. I see in face... Wed, 6 Nov 2013 17:30:47 EST Time Flies I sit here remembering how I used to take my children all over town trick-or-treating. It was so much fun and, to be honest, I miss it a lot. Last night, I got just one group of children that came to my door. The neighborhood has grown up, no kids here and these were from another neighborhood. Then, it started to rain, no more kids. Last year Sandy hit and that was another nightmare altogether!

The happy note of today is, as soon as my son gets home from school, we are going ... Fri, 1 Nov 2013 13:09:54 EST Finally back I had my foot surgery near the end of August. It has been a long haul. My foot is still swollen but I am not in as much pain. I finally got back into sneakers this past week.

The horrible part is that I've gained 10 lbs in the past 8 weeks. It makes me angry at myself but I working through that. The gain wasn't entirely because of the foot, it is also part emotional eating because I am going through the divorce from hell.

This morning I decided I've had enough ... Sun, 27 Oct 2013 10:49:10 EST Gravity I haven't been going to the movies as much as I would like of late. I used to go once a week but life hasn't really been agreeable.

Today, I did manage to get out and got to see "Gravity". Wow, what a movie. I am not good with heights so I actually got dizzy during some of this but all in all, what an incredible movie.

We saw it in 3D and for a movie like this, it was so perfect. I give this two thumbs up. Well worth seeing!!! Fri, 11 Oct 2013 13:32:00 EST What a week!!! This week was so awful. My son was supposed start school on Monday but Sunday I get a call from his dad that he is at the Dr. and isn't feeling well. That was an understatement.

I got my son home on Sunday afternoon and by the evening we were in the ER. He was so sick!! He ended up seeing three Drs and getting three different diagnosis.

One said acute tonsillitis, one said strep throat and one said Mono.

Unfortunately, the mono turned out to be the right... Sun, 15 Sep 2013 08:43:31 EST It's been a long week! The week was really tough. There was the holiday in the middle and I ate things I shouldn't have but what can I say.

Most of that stuff is gone now and to jump start my week, I am juicing today. Just for the day. I feel that it clears my head and maybe my body too of bad stuff and I can start the week anew.

It's all good. Sun, 8 Sep 2013 11:00:07 EST The end result So, after two days of juicing the end result was I lost one pound. Ok was hoping for a little more but for me to lose a pound in a weekend is pretty darn good. It usually takes me a week to do that!

I feel that I have jump started my healthy living. I feel like I lost some bloat which is a great feeling!! So all in all, this was a good thing.

I'm going to juice at least once or twice a week. I think it will keep me on track to a healthier life!

I have to ... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 14:34:04 EST Day two of juicing I am about halfway through my second day of the juice cleanse. In no way is this easy.

First, I am really hungry. My stomach is growling and although I get to eat a salad at the end of the day, I look forward to it like it's a treat!!

Second, with so much juicing, I am drinking so much, I spend half the day in the bathroom. My son is making fun of me as I can't watch a TV program with him without having to stop it at least once to run to the bathroom. At least I kn... Sun, 1 Sep 2013 15:29:09 EST Juice Cleanse I watched a Dr. Oz program about cleaning out your system through juicing. It made a lot of sense to me and since my foot surgery which makes it nearly impossible to exercise, I needed to do something to keep me from exploding!

The morning juice was easy and delicious. Apples, carrots and ginger. Yum. I will have several more juices today that have different ingredients including kale, spinach, beets etc. Not sure how those will be but I'm going to do it!

I bo... Sat, 31 Aug 2013 09:30:04 EST walking! I'm off to the Dr. to make sure I can use my walking boot. I can't wait. I've been stuck in the house for a week!! Once I get the ok, I have some shopping to do and, thank goodness my son is home, I can have a chauffeur!

Wish me luck!!!! Tue, 20 Aug 2013 11:56:56 EST The little things..... It's the third day since my surgery and today I got to take a shower!!! We forget the little things that make us feel good.

I have this contraption that goes over my foot to keep the bandage dry but I wasn't allowed to shower until I wasn't on the pain medication (makes sense!).

Now I am clean and feeling so much better. Another week and I'll be in my "walking boot" and able to get around better.

Day by day. Back to the recliner to put my foot up! Sat, 17 Aug 2013 12:06:46 EST Healing Honestly, this is the hard part. For the next week I have to pretty much stay off my feet completely. I can walk to the bathroom etc but not much more. I see the Dr. next Tuesday and will get my "walking boot" so I can get around.

This is so boring and not doing anything is exhausting. Even though I'm not an exercise buff, I am used to moving and going and doing what I please. It's like being a prisoner. What's even worse, this will take months before I am truly able to wal... Fri, 16 Aug 2013 17:30:28 EST Recovering I had my foot surgery yesterday. It's kind of a blur but apparently it went very well.

I have to stay off my feet for at least a week and I can't drive for several weeks. Oh well, at least it's done and a good time for me because so many of my clients are away till after Labor Day.

The good news is that by the new year I should be able to wear my shoes and not be in pain. Glad I was able to do this while I still have health insurance!

Getting there, gett... Thu, 15 Aug 2013 09:50:13 EST surgery today! I'm leaving in a few minutes for the hospital for my foot surgery. I'm a little apprehensive but who wouldn't be.

I know I'll be fine and so much happier when this is over but dang.....getting older isn't fun at all!!! I feel like I finally got my head together and my body is falling apart!

I will be back on tomorrow (maybe later). Wish me luck!!! Wed, 14 Aug 2013 05:58:00 EST One more day Just one more day of work and then I have my bunion surgery. I think I'm a little apprehensive about it. I want it done and over with but the recovery time is awful. I will be on crutches for at least 3 to 6 months. It makes work so hard for me.

Ok, I am alright. I just hate the idea of more surgery. At least the foot pain can stop!!!

Oh well, on the bright side, I have air conditioning!!!!! Mon, 12 Aug 2013 19:42:27 EST Pre-Op Next week I am having more bunion surgery. Yuck! I figured since the majority of my clients are away until after Labor Day, this would be a really good time to get this done.

Today I went for my pre-op physical. Barring any bad news from the blood/urine tests, I'm in perfect shape for the surgery. EKG was perfect, blood pressure was perfect and every other stupid test they could do was perfect.

Sheesh, I could have told them that!! Sometimes I think they over do t... Mon, 5 Aug 2013 22:38:33 EST The saga continues I am so tired of bad news. Not horrible news (that would be health scares and the like) but bad news.

They came to fix my air conditioner yesterday. They were here for over 4 hours. The new compressor is in still doesn't work. Ugh...I'm losing it!

Apparently, there is a little part (about the size of your fist) that controls the freon going into the compressor and it is malfunctioning, causing the compressor to short out. The repairman told me it is highl... Fri, 2 Aug 2013 09:19:55 EST today's the day!!! If anyone has been following the saga of no air conditioning during a heat wave, here's the great news. Today, they are coming to fix it!! HOORAY!!

The part came in on Tuesday but I had to work yesterday and someone needed to be here to let them in. They said they would come today unless it rained. The forecast called for rain...enter panic.

Woke up, the sun was shining with some clouds. It is supposed to rain, but later in the afternoon so.......they should be here... Thu, 1 Aug 2013 09:30:33 EST
