The new session starts on Monday, and I've been excited about it ever since I saw the flyer a few weeks ago. Basically, for $200, I get 30 hours of personal training [two 1.5 hour sessions a week], plus there are weekly challenges [both fitness and nutrition based], a nutrition seminar, and dietary guidelines catered specifically to me [SparkPeople is great but when it comes down to it, they *are* just estima... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 22:54:25 EST new gym, new workouts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5398389 So, I finally joined my local YMCA yesterday and went this morning for my first workout. I had planned to get there by 8am so I could do some lap swimming before the adult lap swim ended at 9 [Saturdays during the summer, there are kids' swimming classes during the rest of the morning], but I didn't end up leaving my house until 8. I figured the pool would be crowded so I wouldn't get to swim-- but I peeked in on my way to the locker room and there were only two people in the pool! So I chang... Sat, 8 Jun 2013 21:14:43 EST Back in Tune http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5362428 Well, I think winter weather has officially left. We had some frost last week but we're due for our first summer thunderstorm tonight so, it's here. With the change of seasons [no, spring doesn't exist here in the northeast], I have many other changes in mind. The biggest, thankfully, is that I've been getting back in tune with my body. For too long, I've just been paying attention to the number on the scale and [maybe] the number of calories I've been eating. Not anymore.

Being in... Mon, 20 May 2013 15:03:20 EST ...sparkpeople? you okay? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5359143 Phew, we're back up and running this morning! I have to say, the site being down for so long yesterday was worrisome! I had tracked most of my food while at work, so I knew where I was for my calorie ranges. But then I only had a half hour for dinner [I had a fundraiser *for* work to go to in the evening] and ended up eating crap, because it was quick and easy, and was sure I'd gone way over my goals. It turns out, when I tracked it this morning... I was still within my calorie ranges [on the... I had been unemployed since moving 9 months before that, I had gone through a terrible bout of depression, and I had gained a lot of weight. In March, I decided to turn things around. Sure, maybe I couldn't do much about my employment [I moved to the state with the highest unemployment rate in the country], but I could at least take advantage of it. I had every single hour of the day at my disposal. I could spend those hours watching tv and e... Tue, 5 Mar 2013 23:31:12 EST just two questions http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5273585 I've decided to start writing short daily blogs just to keep me accountable. I just wrote a detailed blog post [
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2013/03/
im-not-infallible.html
] about my current shortcomings and needing help to get them in check. Basically, for those who don't want to click over, I need to work on portion control and actually getting out of bed in the mornings on time so I can do my scheduled morning runs. These daily blog posts will serve to answer these two... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 23:12:25 EST Tracking! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5271896 Here's something I haven't done in quite a while-- tracking my food. I've been guesstimating and keeping that running in my head most days but I haven't actually sat down and *tracked* in... weeks? Months? I don't know. [Probably just weeks, maybe a month, but it feels like longer.] Obviously, I'm doing /something/ right, at least partially, because my weight hasn't gone up. But it also hasn't really gone down, either. Hmm, I wonder why that could be.

So, I just sat down and tracke... Sun, 3 Mar 2013 22:51:42 EST Accepted! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5234408 I've been a busy bee, sorry for the lack of updates! Here we go:

-I observed my 29th birthday with a bit of wine, pizza, and cupcakes which did not reflect well on the scale. [Still at the same weight. At least I haven't gone up!]
-It's been COLD [below zero wind chills] and icy so I haven't been out running nearly as much as I'd like. The cold doesn't bother me as much [yesterday it was 10F wind chills and I was out in that], but I don't go running when it's icy. I don't want... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 11:26:59 EST Skinny legs! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5201085 Yes, you read that right. I woke up at 8am this morning for a run before work, snapped a picture in all my running gear [because I love how overwhelmingly BRIGHT PINK it all is], and did a quick mile run. I've been sticking to shorter distances this week because I'm still trying to get a feel for my new shoes-- although I think they're all set now. [I had some numbness but I relaced them a different way and now they're perfect!] Well, that and I had to go to work today so I didn't have time f... I kind of fell off the blogging bandwagon, both here and on my other blog. The holidays were BUSY, okay? Despite the busy season, I'm glad [?] to report that my weight remained constant throughout the holidays. Well, not glad that it stayed the same, per say, but glad that it didn't go UP. I'm still stuck at the same spot I've been for the better part of four months now... but I'm at least at the lower end of that 3 pound plateau, s... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 23:12:44 EST owning up to the tape measure http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5160664 Okay, I've owned up to the scale and we're back to being buddies, sort of [I'm still 2 pounds above my "lowest" weight, but now I'm weighing in at Weight Watchers, and I don't weigh in naked, so I'm willing to count those 2 pounds as clothes!]. But I kept avoiding the tape measure. I said I'd start at the beginning of the month... and then forgot. And then went on a trip to New York. And then forgot to take measurements when I got back. So I said I'd take measurements when I woke up this morn... My old leader used to say that wasn't the case, but I think it is. Just sitting in the room gets something going in me. Tue, 20 Nov 2012 09:41:06 EST November goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5124622 I think one of the reasons I slagged so much in October was because I didn't set any goals. I need them to keep me motivated! So even though this is a few days late, here are my goals.

-run 3x a week, building up to running 5 miles at a time [although that specifically is a goal for the end of the year, not the end of the month]
-use treadclimber 3x/week
-go for walk outside at least 2x/week
-basic strength training [pushups, crunches, squats, etc.] 2x/week
-los... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 11:56:18 EST it's been a while [crocodile] http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5103892 If I stay on track for the rest of the week, I might *actually* have a loss for the first time in over a month! Which is pretty exciting. I've been working hard this week and I guess it shows. I mean, I've been keeping track of everything for the last few weeks but overindulging in food a little and not exercising a lot. I fell off of my running schedule so I'm trying to get back to that [I went running on Tuesday, and I'm going to go just after finishing this]. I've also been walking a lot. ... Thu, 18 Oct 2012 14:50:02 EST moment of truth... and pants http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5080505 End of the month weigh-in and measurements today. As I said last week, I wasn't looking for a huge change... I was happy if I could just maintain for the month, and get my focus back. And, well, I'm happy to report that that's what I did! My weight at the beginning of September was 177; today I weighed in at 176 [my lowest weight over the entire month was 175.5 so even still, I didn't backtrack much at all]. I even managed to lose inches, despite completely slacking on exercise. A half inch l... Sun, 30 Sep 2012 11:49:02 EST back to the grind http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071394 The wedding's over and I can finally get back to "regular life", which means back to healthy eating and exercising. So, I faced the scale today. I'm up 5 pounds from two weeks ago [but I'm convinced that that week's weigh in was a fluke anyway]. Honesty? Not bad. My goal was to stay under 180 and I didn't accomplish that... but just by fractions of a pound. I will take it. And I know that some of that weight isn't "real" weight gain [I did not eat that many calories!] and my body just needs t... Nooooo!

Anyway, I know I haven't had time to check in here lately and I'm definitely not going to have time this coming week. My eating hasn't been great, it's been terrible at times but mostly just... okay. Not bad, not good, just kind of neutral. I haven't had much time [or desire, let's be honest] to track everything. I ate way too much pizza last night and spend the last 12+ hours feelin... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 11:41:41 EST 5k and start of the month measurements http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040562 Okay, I wrote a really long post about today's 5K on my off-site blog, which you can read here:
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/09/
pawsox-5k-recap.html
To summarize, however: I finished it in 33:53, came in 14th out of 29 in my division [which shocked me!], and am really happy with my results. I learned a few things to change for my next 5K and I've got a training plan all set up for the coming month. I'm excited!

Since it's the beginning of the month, I took ... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 21:57:54 EST one mile: conquered http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5037858 So today at the gym, I decided to see if I could run a full mile without stopping to walk. I know, I'm running a 5k on Saturday but I've been doing training with run/walk intervals and plan on doing that on Saturday as well. But today, I just wanted to see how long I could run without sticking to the intervals. Because of the interval training, I have set times to stop running instead of just "when my body feels like it" and I'm curious as to where I actually stand, regarding how far I can ru... Tue, 28 Aug 2012 12:12:42 EST week 6, take 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5032175 First things first: I lost 1 pound this week. Pretty good, but not what I was hoping for. I was down 2 mid-week, which would've made 40 pounds lost total, but there were reasons out of my control that the scale went back up. Honestly! I'm not making excuses. I stayed entirely on plan but sometimes, the body doesn't respond immediately. I'll take that 1 pound and see the other pound come back off soon. [Also, I took a sneak peak at my measurements and I've already lost half an inch pretty much... Sun, 26 Aug 2012 20:07:01 EST 5k training: week 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5029866 Yeah... this is a week I'm going to have to do over. That's okay. It happens. I wish it didn't happen just a *week* before my actual 5K but, well, what are you going to do?

This week's training called for 8 intervals of 3 minutes running, 1 minute walking. As a reminder, last week was 6 intervals of 3 minutes running, 2 minutes walking. So I wasn't increasing the amount of time running per interval, just decreasing the amount of time walking. And... my body did NOT like that. It wa... I don't know why, I've just had a sudden disinterest in food. I normally *love* cooking and I have a backlog of healthy recipes to try out, but I haven't felt like making any the past few weeks. I've been staying within my calorie ranges [and, for the most part, within my macronutrient ranges] but not with the healthiest choices. I'... Mon, 20 Aug 2012 21:23:08 EST outdoor running, part 2: now with runkeeper! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5022321 I wasn't feeling motivated to do much of anything today [even skipped the bike ride with my meetup group this morning] but I'd promised that I would go out for a run today due to skipping the bike ride. I wasn't aiming for an intense run, just a few laps around the track to continue getting my ankle used to outdoor running. Well, once I start, I can never do anything halfway so I ended up doing an "extra session" of last week's 5K training plan. Six intervals of 3min running, 2min walking. Si... I'm looking for a new running/biking app for tracking my distance and pace. I've been using MapMyFitness for a couple years now and I've honestly had no complaints about it. But since I mostly used it for biking, I didn't keep a constant eye on it. Since I was running outside on Wednesday, I had the app going... and the current pace and distance were WILDLY inaccurate. The average pace and total distance did even out by the end of the workout, but I'd like to keep... So, after running outside yesterday, I've been closely monitoring my ankle all day today. And although there's been no pain, it's been feeling... well, not *right*. Not like it was before. Just an... offness. But not the intense pain/unable to walk on it that happened last time I tried to run outside [in May]! So that's... improvement, I guess?

I think it might be because my ankle *does* have to get used to running outside on a harder sur... Thu, 16 Aug 2012 23:20:45 EST bad news, bad day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5017125 So, I've mentioned before that my aunt had ovarian cancer this spring, and just recently found a lump in her breast. She went in for a biopsy last week or the week before, and she finally got the results back today. It's malignant. My aunt, who *just* beat ovarian cancer, now has breast cancer. Ugh, life just isn't fair. [Add this on top of the fact that both her brother (my dad) and her sister had breast cancer. Yep, guess whose family it runs in!] So, yeah, I woke up to that news which pret... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 20:03:21 EST P90X, day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5015971 I started it! I was unsure about it because of my ankle, I actually started the "baby" Power 90 program a couple weeks ago but it was way too easy. So here I am, doing P90X. And honestly? It's not that bad. I mean, yes, I *do* need higher weights [which I'll get on Saturday if my mom remembers to bring them over...] but I've been using resistance bands mostly so I can easily adjust the tension. I'd classify it as "challenging, but not almost impossible". Which is... good. It's *supposed* to b... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 23:56:35 EST Saturday night, and I can finally RELAX! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5011401 I had a busy, stressful week this week. My future sister-in-law's bridal shower was today and I was busy preparing for that. I had a LOT of stuff to do, despite it not really being my job! I spent most of my time from Tuesday onward working on stuff. Unfortunately, this meant that I didn't get as many workouts in as I usually do... For the first time that I know of, I *haven't* met my calorie burned goal for the week. But it's okay, because everyone loved the things I did for the shower and t... Sat, 11 Aug 2012 21:46:51 EST 5k training: week 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5010100 I finished week 4 today! I'm actually really surprised at how *easy* it was this week. The schedule called for 5 intervals of 3 minutes running/2 minutes walking [compared with last week's 2 minutes running/3 minutes walking] and I was really apprehensive about adding in that extra minute. I ended up dropping my running speed down a bit [from 7.0mph to 6.5] and maybe that helped with it being easier but... it honestly wasn't a big deal at all. I was really surprised.

Even today, I ... Fri, 10 Aug 2012 18:21:36 EST feeling blue http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5006483 Trying not to let things get to me. But maybe if I write them down, I'll release them and feel better.

-There's a big Harry Potter conference happening in Chicago this weekend. Also a big [separate] wizard rock concert. If you don't know, I'm really into Harry Potter and wizard rock specifically. I used to be heavily involved in the wrock scene [was even in a wrock band] before I moved. And my closest friends in Chicago were the ones that I knew through the local HP meetup group. A... Wed, 8 Aug 2012 11:06:50 EST The A-Z of Me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5005722 Bored and saw this on a friend's blog so I figured I'd post it instead of mindless munching.

Age: 28. I feel like I should have my life more together at this age than I currently do but… oh well, I'm taking the scenic route!

Bed Size: Full. Big enough for me, the cats, and any dogs I may be watching.

Chore you hate: Doing laundry. This wouldn't be such an issue if I had an electric washing machine like most people, but I hand wash everything. So I tend to put ... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 20:56:05 EST The Love List http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5003388 I have this running commentary in my head of things I love now that I've lost 37 pounds and vastly improved my fitness. I'm going to write down all that I can think of right now.

I love:
1. No more back pain!
2. I can *literally* jump out of bed in the morning [I did today!]
3. Better sleep, and having enough energy throughout the day
4. Being able to put more and more miles on my bike every month
5. Carrying 20 pounds of groceries home doesn't make my arms... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 11:58:20 EST Saturday blogkeeping http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5001161 Just a few things to note:

1) I added a new blog post at my off-site blog. You can view it here:
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/08/
what-difference.html
It contains horrible, horrible "before" photos [for the sake of full disclosure, they were taken in March so not technically *before* but definitely at the *beginning*] and wonderful "current" pictures [taken just this morning!]. I love how I look already, and can't wait to see what I look like when I'm at my ... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 20:29:59 EST August goals! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4998611 Okay, I've thought them over and I just want to continue on what I did last month. Since I'm still working on 5K training, I don't want to add in something horribly new and mess that up just yet. So, here we go.

August goals:
-lose 6 pounds [I want to fit into a specific dress by my brother's wedding in September... well, I fit into it but my stomach looks pregnant!]
-bike 300 miles [I *may* increase this to 350 since I almost neared it this past month when I was only aim...
