I grew up playing them, sitting by my father's side, and it's something that's never gone away.

The problem, of course, is that I spend too much time playing video games, and not enough time moving ar... Thu, 13 Jul 2017 15:41:58 EST Weekly Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6369108 Another Tuesday training session has come and gone... so it's time for an update! Last night was a legs/cardio workout, which was good because I had a make-up session on Saturday where we did arms and I was still sore from that! Another battle with the stairmaster, and then we did a lot of work on the treadmill. Have you ever ran at 10% incline on the treadmill? Because that is one of my trainer's go-to cardio workouts and it is hard. The good part is that when I start running the flat street... Wed, 31 May 2017 15:49:04 EST Weekly Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6366559 Well, another personal training session has come and gone... well, the soreness isn't gone yet... but that's okay! It's a good soreness, right? Right! It means I'm pushing myself! After a couple weeks away due to sickness and scheduling, I knew Tuesday's workout would be rough. But I welcomed it with exuberance and tackled the challenges my trainer set for me. And what challenges they were! First, he started me out on the stair climber... oh, the one cardio machine I've never touched at the g... Thu, 25 May 2017 15:44:02 EST Just Did It: A Follow-Up http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6365629 Despite yesterday's post saying I was going to go to the gym and get my workout done even though I didn't feel like it, I still spent most of yesterday trying to convince myself to go. In fact, I was in the locker room and still like, "I could just go home..." Terrible, right? The motivation just wasn't there yesterday.

But I did it. And you know what? I'm glad I did. It was the first workout since being back that I felt like my old self. Not that I'm back at that fitness level yet... Tue, 23 May 2017 12:50:19 EST Motivational Monday: Just Doing It http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6365282 I'll admit it. After being sick last week, I'm still off my game. I had to force myself to complete my workouts this weekend to finish my Gym Pact (or else pay ten bucks... no thanks), and I didn't track my food at all. Two things I normally have no problems with. My habits are off track.

So this morning I woke up, looked at my gym bag, and said "I can not pack it today". I'm tired, I'm in no mood to drag myself to the gym after work, it's fine if I just skip a Monday. Right?
... Last time I was here, five years ago, I even wrote a blog post describing exactly how I once again feel.
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/07/
letter-to-my-future-self.html
I told myself, I have it in writing, that I'd never come back here. Fri, 12 May 2017 15:34:45 EST 10 Reasons I'm Motivated to Get Fit http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6360615 We all need a little motivation, right? Here are my top ten reasons why I'm working out and getting fit. Some of them may look familiar if you've been around me for a while. But repeating these reasons doesn't hurt!

1. Back pain. I have been living the past month with varying degrees of back pain, from being stiff in the morning to not being able to move all day without crying. It's not fun, and I know it's directly related to my weight gain and lack of movement. I know for a fa... Thu, 11 May 2017 11:37:42 EST let's talk about apps! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6359728 I wrote a new blog post talking about my top five fitness apps. I hate grocery shopping, because I never know what to get and I get overwhelmed and end up crying in the produce section... honestly. But boy, was I wrong! Sparkpeople, I love you, but your meal plan feature has a long way to go for single people.

I'm not going to ... I haven't actually been away--- not according to my browser history and daily spins, at least. I'm still here, I just haven't been active on the site. But despite not blogging, I kept up my fitness routine-- until November.

Over the summer, my housing situation became unstable and in November, I decided to cut ties with a somewhat abusive situation. The new session starts on Monday, and I've been excited about it ever since I saw the flyer a few weeks ago. Basically, for $200, I get 30 hours of personal training [two 1.5 hour sessions a week], plus there are weekly challenges [both fitness and nutrition based], a nutrition seminar, and dietary guidelines catered specifically to me [SparkPeople is great but when it comes down to it, they *are* just estima... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 22:54:25 EST new gym, new workouts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5398389 So, I finally joined my local YMCA yesterday and went this morning for my first workout. I had planned to get there by 8am so I could do some lap swimming before the adult lap swim ended at 9 [Saturdays during the summer, there are kids' swimming classes during the rest of the morning], but I didn't end up leaving my house until 8. I figured the pool would be crowded so I wouldn't get to swim-- but I peeked in on my way to the locker room and there were only two people in the pool! So I chang... I posted a full review on my blog here:
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2013/06/
product-review-spibelt.html
I've been on 4 or 5 runs with it now, and I don't have anything negative to say. Sat, 8 Jun 2013 21:14:43 EST Back in Tune http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5362428 Well, I think winter weather has officially left. We had some frost last week but we're due for our first summer thunderstorm tonight so, it's here. With the change of seasons [no, spring doesn't exist here in the northeast], I have many other changes in mind. The biggest, thankfully, is that I've been getting back in tune with my body. For too long, I've just been paying attention to the number on the scale and [maybe] the number of calories I've been eating. Not anymore.

Being in... Mon, 20 May 2013 15:03:20 EST ...sparkpeople? you okay? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5359143 Phew, we're back up and running this morning! I have to say, the site being down for so long yesterday was worrisome! I had tracked most of my food while at work, so I knew where I was for my calorie ranges. But then I only had a half hour for dinner [I had a fundraiser *for* work to go to in the evening] and ended up eating crap, because it was quick and easy, and was sure I'd gone way over my goals. It turns out, when I tracked it this morning... I was still within my calorie ranges [on the... Fri, 17 May 2013 10:33:57 EST Things are a-Changing. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5347222 Last March, I took on fitness as my full-time job. I had been unemployed since moving 9 months before that, I had gone through a terrible bout of depression, and I had gained a lot of weight. In March, I decided to turn things around. Sure, maybe I couldn't do much about my employment [I moved to the state with the highest unemployment rate in the country], but I could at least take advantage of it. I had every single hour of the day at my disposal. I could spend those hours watching tv and e... Mon, 6 May 2013 10:03:38 EST spring is finally here http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5331838 Well, I went down to New York last week and took lots of pictures of cherry blossoms and other signs of spring while I was there, all the while lamenting that spring comes so much later in Rhode Island. [If you want to see my pictures, they're here:
www.flickr.com/photos/dorkyvegan/set
s/72157633263810017/
I'd post some directly here but I'm not on my computer.] Well, when I got back on Wednesday, I was surprised to see that spring HAD come during my absence! I've been guesstimating and keeping that running in my head most days but I haven't actually sat down and *tracked* in... weeks? Months? I don't know. [Probably just weeks, maybe a month, but it feels like longer.] Obviously, I'm doing /something/ right, at least partially, because my weight hasn't gone up. But it also hasn't really gone down, either. Hmm, I wonder why that could be.

So, I just sat down and tracke... Here we go:

-I observed my 29th birthday with a bit of wine, pizza, and cupcakes which did not reflect well on the scale. [Still at the same weight. At least I haven't gone up!]
-It's been COLD [below zero wind chills] and icy so I haven't been out running nearly as much as I'd like. The cold doesn't bother me as much [yesterday it was 10F wind chills and I was out in that], but I don't go running when it's icy. I don't want... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 11:26:59 EST Skinny legs! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5201085 Yes, you read that right. I woke up at 8am this morning for a run before work, snapped a picture in all my running gear [because I love how overwhelmingly BRIGHT PINK it all is], and did a quick mile run. I've been sticking to shorter distances this week because I'm still trying to get a feel for my new shoes-- although I think they're all set now. [I had some numbness but I relaced them a different way and now they're perfect!] Well, that and I had to go to work today so I didn't have time f... I kind of fell off the blogging bandwagon, both here and on my other blog. The holidays were BUSY, okay? Despite the busy season, I'm glad [?] to report that my weight remained constant throughout the holidays. Well, not glad that it stayed the same, per say, but glad that it didn't go UP. I'm still stuck at the same spot I've been for the better part of four months now... but I'm at least at the lower end of that 3 pound plateau, s... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 23:12:44 EST owning up to the tape measure http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5160664 Okay, I've owned up to the scale and we're back to being buddies, sort of [I'm still 2 pounds above my "lowest" weight, but now I'm weighing in at Weight Watchers, and I don't weigh in naked, so I'm willing to count those 2 pounds as clothes!]. But I kept avoiding the tape measure. I said I'd start at the beginning of the month... and then forgot. And then went on a trip to New York. And then forgot to take measurements when I got back. I mean, I've been keeping track of everything for the last few weeks but overindulging in food a little and not exercising a lot. I fell off of my running schedule so I'm trying to get back to that [I went running on Tuesday, and I'm going to go just after finishing this]. I've also been walking a lot. ... My weight at the beginning of September was 177; today I weighed in at 176 [my lowest weight over the entire month was 175.5 so even still, I didn't backtrack much at all]. I even managed to lose inches, despite completely slacking on exercise. A half inch l... Sun, 30 Sep 2012 11:49:02 EST back to the grind http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071394 The wedding's over and I can finally get back to "regular life", which means back to healthy eating and exercising. So, I faced the scale today. I'm up 5 pounds from two weeks ago [but I'm convinced that that week's weigh in was a fluke anyway]. Honesty? Not bad. My goal was to stay under 180 and I didn't accomplish that... but just by fractions of a pound. I will take it. And I know that some of that weight isn't "real" weight gain [I did not eat that many calories!] and my body just needs t... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 11:33:49 EST if I sound stressed... it's because I am! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5061473 Ahhh I actually had an entire post written up and then I hit a button and it all went away! Nooooo!

Anyway, I know I haven't had time to check in here lately and I'm definitely not going to have time this coming week. My eating hasn't been great, it's been terrible at times but mostly just... okay. Not bad, not good, just kind of neutral. I haven't had much time [or desire, let's be honest] to track everything. I ate way too much pizza last night and spend the last 12+ hours feelin... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 11:41:41 EST 5k and start of the month measurements http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040562 Okay, I wrote a really long post about today's 5K on my off-site blog, which you can read here:
fuchsiagetsfit.blogspot.com/2012/09/
pawsox-5k-recap.html
To summarize, however: I finished it in 33:53, came in 14th out of 29 in my division [which shocked me!], and am really happy with my results. I learned a few things to change for my next 5K and I've got a training plan all set up for the coming month. I'm excited!

Since it's the beginning of the month, I took ... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 22:12:13 EST 12 hours until the 5K! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5039364 The countdown is on! I went this evening to go pick up my race bag.

I also got this free shirt which is made of super awesome wicking fabric [which is great because all of my running/wicking shirts are too small still so I've been wearing non-wicking cotton t-shirts]

[this shirt also makes my boobs look huge and I'm not sure why] <BR... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 21:57:54 EST one mile: conquered http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5037858 So today at the gym, I decided to see if I could run a full mile without stopping to walk. I know, I'm running a 5k on Saturday but I've been doing training with run/walk intervals and plan on doing that on Saturday as well. But today, I just wanted to see how long I could run without sticking to the intervals. Because of the interval training, I have set times to stop running instead of just "when my body feels like it" and I'm curious as to where I actually stand, regarding how far I can ru... Thu, 30 Aug 2012 18:57:30 EST half-anniversary http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5034598 I logged into sparkpeople today to see a number I had been counting towards-- not my sparkpoints or anything, but something with much more significance.

I've logged into sparkpeople for the last 183 days straight! Exactly half a year. And although sparkpeople counts December as my anniversary marker, this really shows it. I created the account in December but then didn't do anything with it for nearly 3 ... Tue, 28 Aug 2012 12:12:42 EST week 6, take 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5032175 First things first: I lost 1 pound this week. Pretty good, but not what I was hoping for. I was down 2 mid-week, which would've made 40 pounds lost total, but there were reasons out of my control that the scale went back up. Honestly! I'm not making excuses. I stayed entirely on plan but sometimes, the body doesn't respond immediately. I'll take that 1 pound and see the other pound come back off soon. [Also, I took a sneak peak at my measurements and I've already lost half an inch pretty much... Sun, 26 Aug 2012 20:07:01 EST 5k training: week 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5029866 Yeah... this is a week I'm going to have to do over. That's okay. It happens. I wish it didn't happen just a *week* before my actual 5K but, well, what are you going to do?

This week's training called for 8 intervals of 3 minutes running, 1 minute walking. As a reminder, last week was 6 intervals of 3 minutes running, 2 minutes walking. So I wasn't increasing the amount of time running per interval, just decreasing the amount of time walking. And... my body did NOT like that. It wa... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 21:59:44 EST
