These phrases included don’t touch that dial, carbon copy, you sound like a broken record and hung out to dry. A bevy of readers have asked me to shine light on more faded words and expressions, and I am happy to oblige:

Back in the olden days we had a lot of moxie. Tue, 24 Feb 2015 16:06:34 EST What the Spirit Desires
By Julia Attaway, February 18, 2015
I stumbled across a line by William James the other day that has stuck in my mind:

“My experience is what I agree to attend to. Only those items which I notice shape my mind.”

If I pay attention to gossip and malice, it will shape my mind.

If I pay attention to my negative thoughts, they will shape my mind.

If I pay attention to the temptation to catastrophize, to jump from one bit of unhappiness to t... Mon, 23 Feb 2015 18:29:23 EST A little history
If you were in the market for a watch in 1880, would you know where to get one? You would go to a store, right? Well, of course you could do that, but if you wanted one that was cheaper and a bit better than most of the store watches, you went to the train station!

Sound a bit funny?

Well, for about 500 towns across the northern United States , that's where the best watches were found.

Why were the best watches found at the train station?
<... So in his wisdom God decreed that seniors would become forgetful that they would have to search for their glasses, keys and other things misplaced and so do some walking.

And God Looked down and saw that it was good.

Then God saw there was yet a need. So God in his wisdom made seniors lose coordination that they would drop things which would require them to bend and reach and stretch.

And God looked down ... Stretching before us are 365 unlived days, bursting with potential. Tue, 23 Sep 2014 15:16:06 EST September 11: Don’t Just Remember, Pray
By Michelle Medlock Adams, September 10, 2014

September 11th will forever mean something different since the unimaginable tragedy that struck America in 2001. If 9/11 taught us anything as a country, it taught us to cherish our loved ones a little more and slow down long enough to appreciate the life around us.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. I watched news coverage almost non-stop–numb, shocked and heartbroken. And I specifically remember how one of th... Thu, 24 Jul 2014 16:28:35 EST Purposeful Prayer
Early in the morning, well before sunrise, Jesus rose and went to a deserted place where he could be alone in prayer. Mark 1:35 (The Daily Life Bible)

Jesus had only three years to accomplish His life’s purpose.
