FRIEDA4000's SparkPeople Blog FRIEDA4000's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Finished a 5K this morning! Feels good to be off to a great start. ;)

My mom was a great supporter and came out to cheer for me!

Wed, 1 Jan 2014 18:05:14 EST Admitting I need a Restart
Hey! I am no longer being successful at weight loss. I need to restart.

It's a tough thing to admit. I did a four day cleanse over Memorial day, and while I watched neighbors chow down on hamburgers, beers, and brownies (yum!), I ate small amounts of fruits, vegetables, brown rice, and fish. I came out of that weekend feeling AMAZING. The most important thing that happened was I broke my addiction with su... Mon, 29 Jul 2013 11:10:27 EST My other fight - OCD I am pretty stationary with my OCD. I have it. I know it's there. But I usually don't mess with it. But someone recently asked me what I would think if I started seeing my OCD in my boys. Oh... Maybe I should deal with it after all.

My first attempt was going past the security guards at work without turning to look at the clock. It drives me crazy if I don't look at it. The entire walk up to the building I was ready, and actually getting visibly nervous at the thought of no... Thu, 9 May 2013 11:38:08 EST Bananas It's bananas that I ate a banana at this conference, instead of the ice cream bars also available! Making good choices all day, every day :) Tue, 7 May 2013 15:40:04 EST Watching someone else do it. I saw something painful this weekend. It wasn't me doing it, but it could have been. And I can't get it out of my mind.

We stayed with my parents over the weekend and ate lunch with them. There wasn't a single fresh fruit or vegetable in the house and my dad indulged me by running up to the local grocery store salad bar to get stuff just for me. Yay! Everyone else just had hot dogs and french fries. I felt bad for my kids eating that way, but I reconciled that we are at grand... Mon, 6 May 2013 11:06:03 EST AH! That's why we start off slow I had an ah-ha! moment this week. After having a rough 24 hour stomach bug, I had some extra motivation to start eating clean and healthy. And working out. I found myself doing 2 10 minute workouts when possible. And I thought I would be depressed after "only getting 20 minutes in" instead of working hard. BUT NO! Doing smaller workouts and actually finishing them was getting me amped up for the next time. It was so much more encouraging than trying to finish an hour workout and having... Wed, 1 May 2013 11:06:27 EST A great decision (re: yesterday's 5K) Yesterday I had a decision to make - whether or not to run the 5K I had signed up for weeks ago.

I signed up to motivate myself to run again - using a treadmill C25K program. I had five weeks between signup and the race- just enough time to fully train. However....

I wasn't training as often as I needed to. When I trained, I did the program completely- every second and at an appropriate speed. I was exhausted every time. But I have a life, and kiddos, and things w... Mon, 8 Apr 2013 09:11:02 EST I'm doing a polar bear plunge! Please help! I'm so excited! It'll be horrible!! :)

I'm excited because I'm not letting my fear get to me. I want to do this, I want to help fight climate change. It's such an important cause. Like most things worthwhile, it won't be easy. But I'm strong and I can do it!

If you also support the cause and would be willing to donate $5 to my plunge- I would greatly appreciate it! Donations made before 6 PM EST today (1/16) have a chance to be doubled!

https://www.fir... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 10:26:12 EST The Little Voice Said... That little voice kept talking to me last night!

It said:

"It's too late to workout, just get some rest"

And I said "NO WAY!"

It said:

"You can modify these burpees - you're just starting out"

And I said "NO WAY!" and paused the DVD until I did all of them correctly

It said:

"Great workout- no need to do the extra ab routine"

and I said "NO WAY!" it's on my calendar and I'm doing it.
<BR... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 10:33:51 EST Triple Heck Yeah! The kids went to bed late and it was past 9:30 when I finished dishes and getting lunches ready for tomorrow. Still 1K+ steps to go for my goal. And I- sadly- decided I was too tired to work out.

BUT - I started watching a recording of TBL and was so motivated I started jogging in place in front of the TV. I realize 20 minutes go by and not only did I get a small workout in, I surpassed my step goal for the day but a ton, but I avoiding junking out on food, which I was totally i... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 22:26:23 EST Time Management I struggle with time management. I have a full time job, and another at home with two little boys. I'm constantly thinking of ways to manage time better. I came up with some great ones just recently- making sure my baby's daycare bottles were washed and refilled while I make dinner. Washing dishes while the kids finish up their food. Doing laundry while I'm down in the playroom next to the machines. By the time the kids are put to bed, there really isn't much else to do for the kiddos a... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 10:10:59 EST Admitting a failure I didn't pack enough food for work today- I should have known better when I journaled breakfast, lunch, and snacks and it was 200+ calories under what I normally have. And some !^%&$! co-worker leaves a bunch of packs of kids fruit snacks in the kitchen. DOH! I end up grabbing FIVE over the course of the day and I'm just now realizing that's a big 400 calorie mistake. I'm depressed about it for sure! But I realize the only things I can do about it are admit it, learn from it, and move on... Thu, 3 Jan 2013 21:25:49 EST I caught myself in a lie I'm still amazed at how easy it is to lie to myself. I was getting ready for some downtime and wanted a small sweet. My mind kept telling me I should just bring the bag over to the couch because "it's faster". And that I'll be able to stop at just one. Yikes! So untrue. I can't believe that used to work on me :) not anymore! Wed, 2 Jan 2013 23:10:50 EST Leftover week and couldn't be happier! I've taken to freezing individual portions of my meals for use later. I know this week is going to be a busy one so it's a great time to get them out and enjoy.

I'm thawing:

2 portions of the chickpea broccoli casserole
2 portions of a faux chicken stew
2 cups of tomato soup
1 portion of spinach noodle casserole

woo! This gives me flexibility if I want to make something else mid-week (and opens up some storage containers!). Mon, 12 Jan 2009 12:38:08 EST Chickpea Casserole - delish! I'm on such a roll making tasty, healthy vegan meals this year! Posting pictures of them online is certainly helping me be think healthier. :) After all, how exciting would it be if I revealed I ate 4 bowls of cereal for dinner. (thankfully haven't done that in a while!)

Here's what I made yesterday, from a recipe in Vegan with a Vengeance. It's a great cookbook and by one of the authors of Veganomicon. I won't divulge the specifics but it is essentially mashed chickpeas (fro... Fri, 9 Jan 2009 15:43:03 EST My New Love (Brussels Spouts) Being a vegan it's expected that I like veggies. And that's a good thing because I LOVE LOVE LOVE veggies. Except brussels sprouts. I just have assumed I'd hate them since I hated them as a child. Well no longer...

I picked up a bag of frozen ones the other week, on a tip that they are good roasted. Not knowing what to do, I tossed the frozen spouts in the oven with some oil and seasonings. Lo and behold they were delicious! Today's venture into veggie-land consisted of toss... Wed, 7 Jan 2009 12:12:15 EST Senorita Blimpypants Weighs In Absolutely no change from last week. Very disappointing in that I really tried this time :(

I feel like there's some little thing that I'm doing wrong and if I fixed it things would get a whole lot better. I'm not in need to big results - .5 lb a week would be just dandy. But I need something!!

Off to do some planning for the days ahead. Tue, 6 Jan 2009 10:33:55 EST Fruit Salad Lost! Lentil Loaf gained :) I was so excited about my breakfast of a big fruit salad. Maybe a little too excited....

*sigh*
At least dinner was good- made a quick lentil-loaf out of lentils, carrots, onions, tomato paste, panko, dry oatmeal, and seasonings. With a "fancy" ketchup glaze. Overall pretty tasty but I think you'd have to do some serious damage to mess up lentil-loaf. Ate it with a spinach salad.
<img src="http://photos-... Mon, 5 Jan 2009 18:29:57 EST The Good, Bad, and the Tasty (i.e. my day in salads) I overloaded my salad at lunch with full-fat salad dressing - doh! A reminder to never pour directly into the bowl- measure first! Despite its goopy appearance, it was still so very tasty that I had to eat the whole thing and accept the "calorie hit"

The salad was spinach, onion, red pepper, sunflower seeds, and crasins chopped into very small pieces and mixed with a maple balsamic dressing (I love sweet ... Sun, 4 Jan 2009 21:56:49 EST Chickpea Cutlet Recipe - from Veganomicon
Perhaps the best part of this recipe is the description from the cookbook reads "We try not to play favorites, but this is one of our babies and a recipe that we are sure will take over food blogs worldwide." So perhaps it is my civic duty to post about it? :) Seriously tasty and easy to make. Heck, I recommend the whole cookbook - Veganomicon by Moskowitz and Romero.

This is one I've made a few times so I ... Sat, 3 Jan 2009 21:32:01 EST Just a few good cookbooks is all I need Seriously! Getting a warm, delicious vegan meal can be tricky sometimes. Getting back on plan drove me back to my cookbooks and now I'm eating better than ever :)
Sat, 3 Jan 2009 19:25:32 EST Congrats to everyone just starting out! Congrats on making such an important commitment to yourself!

Having just started over myself, I can attest that the first few days are the hardest. You may still have sweets around from the holidays. You may not have enough fruit and veggies at home for every meal. Your body may be craving all the extra calories that it's used to getting. This is the time when temptation seems the worst.

But the good news is, it will definitely get easier. You'll learn what to buy, ... Fri, 2 Jan 2009 14:31:25 EST Fluff Invasion! New Cats Hi all- I just had to brag about our adorable new kitties! We now have three of the fluffiest cats I know. And if they would all sit nicely together for a picture, I'd have one of all three of them!

Pictured is Mittens, our oldest cat at 5 years. We've actually had her since she was a kitten with her wonderful sister Cassie. Unfortunately Cassie passed away this winter and we've been lonely for more fluff in our lives. I'm so glad we got back out there into the "cat market" ... Sun, 13 Apr 2008 20:34:37 EST
