FRECKS96's SparkPeople Blog FRECKS96's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 3/21/17 I have been MIA for...far too long. I've gotten back on the running train. Eating better after booting my ex from my house and making all-around better choices. I want to race, I want to be healthy again.

I've said it before, I know how and what to do. It's beyond time. I have about a month until my first race of the season. I'd like to be down ~10 pounds by then.

Let's do this! Tue, 21 Mar 2017 09:55:25 EST Monday 5/30 Ragnar was amazing, as I expected it to be! I walked more than I would have liked. Trying to move too much of me is definitely slowing me down.

I also realized (as it got quite hot in upstate this week and I decided to buy a new suit) that nearly none of my summer clothes fit from even last year. No more slacking. The last 2 weeks haven't been ideal for training between time and weather but school only has 3 weeks left and I have another race mid-July. Also planning run another... Mon, 30 May 2016 11:03:12 EST Mon 5/9/16 Still here and plugging along. Time management is definitely something I need to work on. Can't we just add a couple hours to each day and a day to the weekend? That's not asking too much, right?

This weekend is Ragnar Cape Cod. It's going to be SO. MUCH. FUN! I'm actually taking a day and a half off work to go run and I can't wait!

Time to get some rest...that's the first step in making time. Night! Mon, 9 May 2016 22:13:10 EST Weds 5/4 I'm slowly feeling better, though still not 100%. I'm guessing that racing 2 weekends in a row wasn't ideal. I did finally get some cardio in tonight though, and my toning vids for today and yesterday. Planning to get up and run a couple shakeout miles tomorrow before work. Sunday's long run will be a bit shorter to not be sore heading into Ragnar.

I've been slacking on my workouts, water, and food tracking. Eating too, to an extent. Lack of pre-planning does me in every time... Wed, 4 May 2016 22:22:57 EST Mon 5/2 OOF! I am sore today! I felt pretty good yesterday, so I was a bit surprised at how tight my calves were this morning. I even put on my compression sleeves to try and help. Hoping that and some rolling will do the trick. No time for recovery with Ragnar Cape Cod coming up. Need to run at least a couple times this week...a moderately long run on Sunday and then 3 days next week. The relay should actually be easier on my legs since I often split my long runs anyway and it's only a total o... Mon, 2 May 2016 22:27:42 EST Sun 5/1/16 I haven't gone anywhere, I promise. Last week was quite busy and I'm still not feeling 100%. I actually took last week off from working out, but I plan to get right back at it this week. I've also decided not to log my food on the weekends. There is just too much going on and too many meals that are difficult to track. I'm pretty sure that I can still stay on track only tracking 4-5 days/week, we'll see.

Today I ran our local half marathon. I've done it every year since it's ... Sun, 1 May 2016 22:25:58 EST Mon 4/25 So, my relay race yesterday was A-Maze-Ing!! As always, I have a great team that runs well together and gets along nicely. We had a few hurdles to overcome, but ran well and still finished in about 12 hours. It was an awfully early start, but finishing with lots of daylight left made it all worth it. As expected, I didn't have any time to be on SP, but I had a great time and plan to get right back at it. I had really great runs on Sunday, so I know that whatever I'm doing is working, eve... Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:43:15 EST Fri 4/22 It is going to be a tough weekend food wise. Already today I can't really track dinner. I went out with friends to a local tapas style restaurant...lots of different things, just a few bites of each; everybody shares. The food is just amazing there, but it is SO easy to overeat.

Then, I am out of town for the next day and a half...tomorrow will be dinner out followed on Sunday by lots of snacking and a fast food dinner during and after our 77.7 mile relay race. I can't ... Fri, 22 Apr 2016 23:07:19 EST Thurs 4/21 So, I lost a friend today, or at least a person I called a friend. We disagreed on something political, he didn't like the way I shared my opinion and rather rudely called me out, denied me from replying and then messaged my boyfriend to inform him that I wasn't his friend anymore. Not very mature, and clearly not a friend, but annoying none the less. In fact, it's been on my mind much of the day...would I have done anything differently knowing the outcome? Probably not. If they don't lik... Thu, 21 Apr 2016 22:19:18 EST Weds 4/20 So, I have goals...I keep track of them and post daily if I made them or not. But, what is my plan? You have to have a plan. My plan, to take control of my life back and be the real me includes putting myself first. Going to bed at a timely hour instead of staying up and vegging in the recliner. Forcing myself out the door for morning runs and up for morning workouts. Reducing my calorie intake and cooking more fresh, healthy food. Using the tools I have: the Sparkpeople food and fitnes... Wed, 20 Apr 2016 21:49:43 EST Tues 4/19/16 Trivia Tuesday! One of my favorite nights of the week...I typically have a pretty laid back evening and then go play trivia with friends at a local eatery after the mini-me is in bed. No drinks this week though, still not feeling 100%. Boo! I ate fairly healthy though and got in lots of water.

Goals met for today:
Food logged
Step goal exceeded
Workouts done
Water drank Tue, 19 Apr 2016 22:44:25 EST 4/18 Quickie I wasn't going to post tonight, it's late and my computer is downstairs; but then I realized I could do it from the Sparkpeople app. Yay!! I really like seeing my goals and what I accomplished each day. Helps the motivation. I got to watch parts of the Boston Marathon today. The elite runners always amaze me. To be able to do what they do, it just seems super human. The women's race was amazing. If you have the opportunity, go back and watch just the last half hour or so. Just wow. I did o... Mon, 18 Apr 2016 22:54:31 EST Sun 4/17/16 3 weeks I've been at this now. I'm starting to see little changes, it's easier to get my water in, smoother food tracking, higher mileage (20 this past week! YAY!). All little steps that lead to big change.

Today was a picture perfect day in upstate NY, though my body isn't quite used to the heat yet (less than a week ago I had to run with 2 layers and a headband for my ears, today was shorts and tank). I had to run 6 miles late this afternoon and it was hot (~75*), full sun, ... Sun, 17 Apr 2016 22:03:25 EST Sat 4/16/16 Good day today! Got to sleep in, enjoy coffee in the sun on my deck, had a lovely run and a yummy dinner. I got in both yesterday's and today's toning vids and tomorrow is long run day. It was really nice to just have a day with no obligations.

Goals met for today:
food logged and in range
water in
cardio and toning done
step goal nearly met Sat, 16 Apr 2016 21:32:03 EST Fri 4/15/16 So very tired today. An absolutely crazy day at work and a couple hours out with friends makes for one tired Julie. I will do today's arm workout tomorrow, along with tomorrow's core and my run. Plenty of time and not a ton of plans. And better than falling asleep in my chair!

Goals met for today:
Food tracked
Water drank
Step goal in reach, but not met yet. Fri, 15 Apr 2016 22:29:31 EST Thurs 4/14/16 Filed my taxes tonight, finally. Now I realized why I put it off for so long...I ended up owing the fed $450 46

Ah well, such is life. Not a bad day today, work went well and Scouts went well, I got to see a friend, and dinner out (healthy-ish even) with the family. Not getting my 8 hours of sleep tonight though. Jillian again tomorrow. I missed it last week because I couldn't breathe. Hard to believe I've been back at this for nearly 3 weeks already. Making new ... Thu, 14 Apr 2016 23:14:45 EST Weds 4/13 As busy as we are, I'm very lucky (now that it's warmer and light longer) that there are a number of well maintained running trails in our area. One of them, a 2 mile stretch of paved "rail trail" with a 1.5 mile extension a short distance away, is only a couple of miles from where my daughter takes gymnastics. So, every Monday and Wednesday, I have a perfect opportunity to go running or walking on a safe, flat stretch of pavement. Tonight, even though it was still chilly, I took full adva... Wed, 13 Apr 2016 21:59:57 EST Busy, busy...Tues 4/12/16 Work, prep, piano lessons, fancy dinner, trivia. Not much down time today, but I did manage to get in a 20 minute turbo jam session this morning despite not having my alarm on and I just squeaked in my toning vid at 11:15. Time for bed, but keeping myself accoutable. Goals met for today: cardio done toning done Step goal met food tracked (even food from dinner out!) Water drank Tue, 12 Apr 2016 23:29:03 EST Mon 4/11 I was looking at my page all my updates from when I first got healthy to my small ups and downs during my divorce to now. In less than 2 years I gained back nearly 50 pounds. 2 years of not tracking, not paying attention to what I was using to fuel my body. 2 years of catering to picky eaters in my household. 2 years of being lazy and too much take out. 2 years of regular, weekly drinks out with friends. I'm surprised it took that long to be honest.

50 pounds. Mo... Mon, 11 Apr 2016 22:20:55 EST Sunday runday! 4/10/16 9 miles today, done. 3 this morning before church and 6 at the park while the girls rode bikes and played. I really didn't want to, but they turned out to be decent runs. It always amuses me when I enter all my food only to be over my goal for the day; THEN I enter in my long run(s)...suddenly I haven't eaten enough! Not going to eat any more though, not hungry, but I will finish up my water.

I did not set up menu or workout plans for this week yet. I simply ran out of time to... Sun, 10 Apr 2016 21:42:00 EST Sat 4/9 Feeling slightly better today after a good night's sleep. I ran my planned 3.5 miles and it went okay. I have 9 on the calendar for tomorrow, split between 2 runs; so I'll get one in before church and one after lunch. We had some friends over tonight, and I went out to lunch; so not a great day, food wise, but I did try to make healthier choices than usual. No ice cream (at Friendly's), yay! I did not do my boot camp toning video, I actually just remembered, but I should be able to fit i... Sat, 9 Apr 2016 22:12:59 EST Fri 4/8/16 9:15 on a Friday night and I'm beyond ready for bed. It has been such a long week and I'm beat. Missed seeing friends tonight (at a brewery, so a good choice) and missed a chance to eat out during our restaurant week (locally owned restaurants in the area offer a fixed price, 3 course menu for about 10 days and donate a portion of the proceeds to a local charity. A great way to try new foods and go out on the cheap (er).

Just feeling kinda blah tonight. I will get my water in t... Fri, 8 Apr 2016 21:33:10 EST Thurs 4/7/16 Definitely not feeling well today. I did my bootcamp toning but otherwise took taday as a rest day. Still working on getting my water in...can't break my streak you know! Food was meh today, but I logged it. One more work day this week. I think I can, I think I can...

Goals met for today:
boot camp video
food logged
water drank

Tomorrow is a new day. Thu, 7 Apr 2016 22:14:57 EST Weds 4/6 Lessons learned over the past week...
1. If I plan my workouts AND have them written down, I am much more likely to follow through. I've actually been using a site called Final Surge, which I started when my trainer was sending me my marathon training plan. I started last week inputting my own workouts and it sends me a daily email with what I need to accomplish for that day and the next.

2. I have very little willpower when it comes to food. I'll track what I eat (except... Wed, 6 Apr 2016 21:06:21 EST Tues 4/5/16 So hungry today! Felt like all I wanted to do was eat. Ended up with lots of little BLTs (bites, licks and tastes). Not ideal, but not the end of the world. I got my cardio, toning, and my water in and I hit the step goal on my Garmin. Also, made the meal I planned and portioned accordingly.

I feel like I might be coming down with a cold. Boo! Though hopefully it gives me the motivation to get more sleep. Tomorrow is hump day...stay strong, make a plan and stick with it. Tue, 5 Apr 2016 22:55:18 EST Mon 4/4 We had a lovely, somewhat unexpected snow day today. I was hoping for a 2 hour delay, but I'll take this anytime! It was a nice, relaxing day of playing in the snow, an easy run, and lots of time with my girl.

My plan for tomorrow is to get up early enough to be able to take measurements and get my workout in. Measurements (and pictures) are SO important because the scale can lie. Muscle is more dense than even when the scale doesn't move, you can still "see" the progr... Mon, 4 Apr 2016 22:11:38 EST Sun 4/3/16 what a lousy day for running. 20*, snow, 20 mph winds, real feel in the single could have been worse. I had planned to sign up for the Syracuse Half, which was today. They had full on blizzard conditions with whiteouts and ice, no thank you! I got my ~8 miles in over the course of 2 runs (training for 2 relay races and a half, so splitting my long runs helps with both) and ate pretty good today. Not hungry now, but I bet I will be tomorrow. Luckily, it looks like we might ha... Sun, 3 Apr 2016 22:09:02 EST Sat 4/2 Weekends...we all (mostly) love them. But, it is SO very hard to stay on track. Outings with friends, family potlucks, inpromptu invites...this week that equals 2 days of no tracking and too many calories. Still, this past week was a win in many ways. I did cardio and strength training every day, I planned and followed through with healthy meals and I was more aware of my sleep habits. Things can only get better.

I have one 10 minute toning video and 2 glasses of water to drin... Sat, 2 Apr 2016 21:23:44 EST Thurs 3/31/16 Tomorrow is a new month. I always like new months. They signal a fresh start, a chance to try something new. What will this month bring to you? For me...a continued increase in my fitness and healthy life style. A healthier, happier me; and with a bit of luck, a more rested me.

Goals met:
Completed scheduled boot camp and cardio (includin my date with Jillian)
Ate healthy and nearly within range and logged everything
9 glasses of water
Met step goal
<... Thu, 31 Mar 2016 21:18:13 EST Weds 3/30 I love this feeling! The lack of stress from having my meals all planned out. Knowing that I'm fueling my body, not just feeding it. Being active and working toward goals. Having a Spark!

Tomorrow I scheduled myself to meet up with my nemesis...Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I haven't done it in a long time. It's hard, but it's effective. We have a love/hate relationship.

Goals met for today:
8 glasses of water
Food logged and I stayed in my ranges
... Wed, 30 Mar 2016 21:55:42 EST Tuesday 3/29 Still feeling good. Made another sparkrecipe for dinner tonight (yes Tempest, I use them regularly!) No cardio today, busy day...but drank more even more water than yesterday and did my toning video. I've got this. Tue, 29 Mar 2016 19:56:13 EST Mon 3/28/16 Progress Today was a good day. I got up and did my bootcamp toning video, I got in some cardio, I ate healthy and logged my food, drank more water than I have been, made a meal plan for the week and set up an exercise plan for the week. I feel like I'm on the right track again. I am most excited about my meal plan, my eating is definitely my biggest boulder to overcome. I went back and found some old favorites and made one for dinner tonight after stopping at the store and stocking up on fresh pro... Mon, 28 Mar 2016 21:13:22 EST 3/27/16...Neglected I have missed you, my dear Spark friends. And I have been neglecting you, and even worse, myself. I have been so careless in my eating. So lazy in my running. Other workouts have been non-exsistant. It's not working for me.

And so, I come to you humbled. Much heavier than I should be. More out of shape than I need to be. Asking, pleading with you to help me hold myself accountable.

I know what works for me. Track my food and water. Workout every day, even if ... Sun, 27 Mar 2016 18:06:46 EST Monday 8/10/15 So I now have a training plan/trainer for NYCM. The goal is to get me to November 1st healthy and in one piece. To that end, I will typically be splitting my long runs to lessen impact on my joints/bones. I will also be doing a significant amount of biking instead of running 5 days each week.

I have 3 weeks until my 18 mile race, but that will be a training run with a friend on a lovely, supported course. 6.5 weeks until Ragnar Adirondaack and 12 weeks until NYC. I have every... Mon, 10 Aug 2015 15:24:48 EST Friday 7/31/15 I'm doing better. I'm drinking more water, working out more and trying to make better food choices. I've got a tentative training plan worked out, but I think I'm going to have one written specifically for me for NYCM.

This last week has been brutally hot and humid for our area, but I'm plugging along. Being aware of not over doing it and hurting myself, but trying to push myself just a little bit more every day. Last week was better than this week. My bf had surgery out of ... Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:11:44 EST Monday 7/20/15 I did it, I registered for the NYC marathon to be held November 1. This gives me 15 weeks to be ready to run for 5 hours (less if I do well). I have a couple other races coming up too, an 18 mile race at the end of August ands a Ragnar Relay at the end of September. Makes for an exciting autumn.

I ran last week...finally. I had a race on the 12th, 15K, which felt SO long, but I finished. And then I ran and worked out the rest of the week. Even DIDN'T gain weight during our... Mon, 20 Jul 2015 07:14:10 EST Thurs 7/9/15 Inertia, it's a vicious cycle. I'm tired, so it's a struggle to get up and work out, but being lazy leads to weight gain and exhaustion; which leads to less working. An object in motion vs. an object at rest. I've been at rest too long. I think about where I've been and where I'm at, what I have done and how I got here. I think a touch of depression and a lot of stress doesn't help, but I can't make excuses.

School is out for summer and I have a number of races coming up tha... Thu, 9 Jul 2015 15:11:48 EST Sun 3/29/15 Goals...goals...Goals...

they haven't seemed to mean much lately.
Eating goals, mostly out the window. Running Goals, I did a half marathon with nearly no training in the 2 months prior. Sleep goals, ha! With all that comes a failure to meet my weight loss goals.

It seemed so easy the first time. I made a commitment to me and I stuck with it. What was different? What worked then that isn't working now?

I know the answers. My priorities, my life... Sun, 29 Mar 2015 22:16:35 EST Thursday 1/8/14 It's been a long, busy month since I last blogged. I performed in 3 concerts in December, which meant lots of rehearsals. My boyfriend had back surgery an hour away right in the middle of performance weeks. I ended up working full time for the entire month (which is great, but doesn't leave much time for other things.) During the holiday, I didn't have easy access to a computer; mine died sometime last month. Not looking for sympathy, just explaining where I've been. With the new year com... Thu, 8 Jan 2015 21:19:42 EST Monday 12/1/14 I realize that in addition to weekends, vacations really are not good for me. I stay up late, go out, eat whatever is around, don't drink my water...

Now I'm going to spend this week getting back into my good habits. I'm going to do the 28 day New you Bootcamp. I had started it last week, but didn't keep at it, so since today is the 1st of the month, and a Monday, it's the perfect time to reboot. I ran 3 miles this morning early, my next race is in 2 weeks. It's a 5K, and I li... Mon, 1 Dec 2014 14:24:51 EST Sunday 11/23/14 While I haven't blogged in almost 2 weeks, I have been sparking. I finished my 28 day boot camp strong, been getting back into running more steadily and have been working at moderating my nutrition. This weekend was pretty terrible as far as taking care of myself, but I got a lot done for my family and friends.

This last week I took it easy but I plan to kick it up again this week. I did get in an early run one day with Alexis. At 8 years old she asked to wake up at 5:45 and run 3... Sun, 23 Nov 2014 22:19:40 EST Tue 11/11/14 Had a nice day today with a friend. It was an amazingly gorgeous day in upstate NY and we spent some time walking along a local river walk while our girls rode bikes. Stayed up way too late last night talking to an old friend, so not much energy today, but I did double up my boot camp video today. One more week of the 28 day bootcamp left and I'm feeling pretty good.

I did measurements today. My goal was to be at 150 this morning and I got to 152.5, but I lost inches at nearly ... Tue, 11 Nov 2014 19:43:03 EST Monday 11/10/14 Still here and still Sparking strong. The weekend kind of got away from me. Lots of running around and household chores, especially yesterday. I've finished week 3 of my bootcamp, gojavascript:%20void(0);t in a good run this morning and have a fun evening planned with some runner friends.

I'm feeling much more myself and am ready to kick things up a notch. I'm going to just miss my goal of 150#s by tomorrow, but it's okay. I've made steady progress in the right direction and... Mon, 10 Nov 2014 09:15:06 EST Weds 11/5/14 I was excited to get up and run this morning, it was forecast to be a bit warmer than average and we've had some really lovely days. Unfortunately when I got up it was raining. I don't normally mind running in the rain, but my temp cutoff if about 50*, and it was close to 40 this am. So, since I was up anyway, I did my boot camp video and my 30 day shred video.

Today was a pretty easy day at work, I even had time to fit in 30 minutes of yoga. I also (finally) ordered a Road ID. ... Wed, 5 Nov 2014 22:29:58 EST Mon 11/3/14 Not much to say today. I ate okay, did my boot camp video but otherwise took today as a rest day. Still have a pretty nasty cough, makes it hard to breathe sometimes. It's doubtful that I'm going to meet my first goal, but it will be close. Stupid cold ruining my plans.

Working the rest of this week, so it will be hard to get my workouts in if I'm not up early. Time for bed. Make tomorrow great!

~Julie~ Mon, 3 Nov 2014 22:29:16 EST Sun 11/2/14 Another busy but fun weekend. Friday I didn't feel great, so I did my boot camp video, my bonus video and called it a day. Saturday we spent the day cleaning for our Halloween party. I also took our dogs for a 2 mile walk. I didn't do my boot camp video, but I got that in today.

Last night was fun, we had a few friends over, got dressed up and played some games. I didn't go crazy with the alcohol, just 2 beers, but had more dinner and snacks than I should have. At 1:30, one of my... Sun, 2 Nov 2014 22:19:10 EST Thursday 10/30/14 Another short work day today meant another day with time for a long workout. I pulled out a video I hadn't done in awhile. Good for continued weight loss (my body responds well when in continually change things up), but I'm already sore from it. Lots of combination cardio and toning...squats and light weights. I also did my toning video for the 28 day boot camp. More core. Lol!

Halloween tomorrow shouldn't be too bad. We don't have any of the kids, and don't plan to give out can... Thu, 30 Oct 2014 21:49:11 EST Weds 10/29/14 Today was a good day. I ended up working only in the afternoon, so I was able to get a little extra sleep, do my toning video, an extra cardio vid and got in a short run! I also ate pretty well today-even avoided all the junk and beer at an impromptu hockey game (boyfriend's dad got free tix for the family). Still working on beating this cold. It's fighting me, but I think I'm making progress. Off to get some sleep. Work is still up in the air for tomorrow.

Make it a great day!! ... Wed, 29 Oct 2014 22:38:22 EST Tuesday 10/28/14 Still trying to get healthy. Drinking lots of tea, trying to get some extra rest. I've gotten caught up on my bootcamp videos, but I haven't done my additional cardio yet today. May try to get out for a walk with the dogs after school since it's gorgeous out and likely one of the last really nice days we'll have in upstate NY until spring.

My schedule changed for this week. Not scheduled to work for the next 2 days (yet), so I may end up with some extra time to rest and try to ... Tue, 28 Oct 2014 13:34:25 EST Sunday 10/26/14 Home from camp. I'm pretty sure our 18 Scouts (ages 6-9) had a lot of fun, but I'm exhausted and pretty sure I'm getting sick. I've been feeling it for a couple days, but my body has a way of holding stuff at bay as long as it can. Pretty sure I reached it's limit with little rest and lots of energy expended this weekend. I didn't do my challenge videos over the weekend, but we did a lot of hiking and running around. I'll do the videos I owe tomorrow to catch up. It will be 1 cardio video, 1...
