FORU2C's SparkPeople Blog FORU2C's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Why I Joined the Nashville Striders! This is written as an essay as I posted it on the Nashville Striders Message Board Forum.

Hi, my name is Mary and I wanted to introduce myself to your club and tell you a bit about myself and why I joined today. First of all let me say I am a walker…not a runner without any prior participation to organized race events until 2010. I have always loved to walk, I grew up in a small town in New York and that was the only way to get around. I even did a stint of walking racehorses for a... Fri, 4 May 2012 23:17:32 EST My 2nd ever HM ~ Women's Half Marathon ~ Septmeber 25, 2010
It has been week since the inaugural Women’s Half Marathon in Nashville. I feel if I don’t sit down and write this blog today, it won’t ever get done. Overall it was an amazing race, beautiful weather, training sessions were awesome, but after the race was completed it will never be the same for most everyone that participated in the event.

We lost one of our own that day. This was not someone I knew personally, but from what I understand this women touched many lives in her... Sat, 2 Oct 2010 17:24:56 EST My Very 1st Half Marathon is Now History for Me!!! Wow! Where do I even begin? This has felt like such a long day coming, I can’t believe it is over! It all began this January when I was at the gym and I saw a girl on the track wearing a t-shirt that said Country Music Half Marathon 2009. I was like, hey, I’d like to do that! I proceeded to check into the details to check 1st off if they allow walking as I am not a runner. Yep, then on a time limit, yes, that was doable as well! Now to come up with the entry fee….mmm…. tax time was around the... Sun, 25 Apr 2010 22:00:52 EST Last Two Weeks of Training before HM Week! Can you imagine I did not blog last week about how my training week went, therefore I will try to sum this up in a not too long of a version! In case you are just tuning in let me fill you in on my last long distance walk before I go on about the last two weeks worth….

Here is a shortened version before continuing on about the aftermath of its results!

Ok, so my training schedule had me down to do 12 miles today. It was to be my last long distance walk... Sat, 17 Apr 2010 21:53:19 EST 13.2 miles today just in case! 13.2 miles today just in case….. the Garmin isn't accurate!

Ok, so my training schedule had me down to do 12 miles today. It was to be my last long distance walk before tapering down to get ready for the big day in 3 weeks. It’s hard to believe that in 3 weeks I will be at the post concert for the County Music HM, at this time. My 1st Half Marathon….who would have thought? Of course if you haven’t read any of my blogs before, I am walking the HM, I am not a runne... Sat, 3 Apr 2010 23:39:13 EST Wow, I SPARKED a 1st place winner today! I am very excited for my HM buddy that is coming to Nashville to do the Country Music Half Marathon with me on 4/24. She just called from North Carolina to thank me for the HM training she has been doing as she finished 1st place in the Easter Egg Run in Greensboro, NC in her age group! She claims she could never have done it without my encouragement to do the HM.

It really is an awesome feeling to have someone thank you for being responsible for their achievements. It is my 1st t... Sat, 3 Apr 2010 12:03:25 EST Wow....4 Weeks until my 1st 1/2 Marathon!!!!

Four weeks to go until my 1st 1/2 Marathon and the training has been totally awesome! Luckily the weather has been totally cooperating on the Saturday’s that I have been doing my long distance sessions. Today I was up for a 11 mile trek and initially I had intended on going to Shelby Bottoms park and walking over to Two Parks and just keep going until I was half way done and turning back around.

I was taken back to see the temperature at 38 degrees when I woke up, wow,... Sat, 27 Mar 2010 22:13:17 EST week 5 of Mary's Journey with ~ part 2 I made it through another week of training for the Rock-n-Roll Country Music ½ Marathon that I will be partaking in four short weeks. This is my first ½ Marathon I have ever participated in and I am very excited! The longest organized event I have ever done is 5 miles so this is quite an increase in distance.

Not quite knowing where to begin my training journey I surfed around the fitness pages on SparkPeople.Com and came up with a ton of fantastic ideas. I joined the ½ Marathon S... Sun, 21 Mar 2010 23:58:37 EST week 5 of Mary's Journey with ~ part 1 After reviewing my training schedule, much to my dismay I had jumped ahead a week and needed to adjust my training schedule and thought what better week then now! Needless to say I have 2-Week 5’s and I will give you just the highlights… actually, for the most part, there are no “real” highlights involved unless it is the LDW (long distance walk, for those of you that missed my 1st ever blog).

The early part of the week went well, I was able to train outside one day, but had to ... Sat, 20 Mar 2010 19:28:52 EST Mary's Journey with Since I am getting down to six weeks left until the Country Music 1/2 Marathon that I will be participating in I have decided to blog about it. It's not going to be that interesting, but I do want to keep track of how I am getting along with the training. I need to mention here that I will NOT be running in this prestigious Boston Marathon qualifier, but walking. I am not opposed to a light jog now and then to break up the monotony, but run...not happening. Even if I had the desire, my one ba... Mon, 15 Mar 2010 00:01:25 EST
