I did it. They are opening two new gyms in our town...one is a Planet Fitness, the other a Workout Anytime. I have opted for the Workout Anytime center, as it is more convenient and the people sound more down-to-earth and concerned about fitness for regular folks like myself.

I also noticed, when I went to the sales office to finish signing up, that the other people there looked more like me than they did like supermodels. This is important to me and reduces my gym-phobia,... Tue, 28 Mar 2017 08:24:50 EST Back into the Yard http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6339344 It has been six months since I fractured my shoulder bone and just recently finished physical therapy to continue my exercises at home.

Today has been the first time that I returned to doing yard work. Pushed the mower around and toted the weed eater. Also did a lot of raking. It all felt very good, giving my shoulder a workout and burning a few hundred calories in the process.

Have lost about 15 pounds since my return to Sparkpeople a month ago. Sun, 26 Mar 2017 18:55:52 EST Good News http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6337338 Last week my bone doctor, who was treating me for a fractured shoulder bone (humerus) cut me loose and said I did not need to come back. Additionally, my physical therapist has said that I have gone as far as I can with him, and can continue exercising at home. So, tomorrow will be my last physical therapy session and then I guess I am on my own.

Going to keep doing the exercises that they instructed me to do, especially those geared to getting rear motion mobility back...everyth... Life and routine get in the way sometimes, and I let it get the better of me. My last long stretch here, I lost over 100 pounds....so I know I can do it!

Last October I fractured the humerus bone in my right shoulder (lousy name for a bone....I did not laugh once). Did not have surgery, but have been through a long bout of physical therapy, which has gotten me used to regular exercise again.

So...I reset my Sparkpeople go... Tue, 28 Feb 2017 09:01:54 EST Boring Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5054350 Weight loss has been sluggish...so, have been keeping away from the scale a little lately. I feel good and my clothes fit (which is a red flag warning).

Still logging, except for slacking off a bit on the weekends. Watching portions and trying to make most meals as healthy as I can.

Walking & Running some...trying 3-4 times a week. Back up to 10-15 minute intervals in hopes of ramping back up to 30 minutes or more (5k territory).

Wow...that was pretty dull. Tue, 11 Sep 2012 12:05:12 EST Bad/Good Sparker http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5024894 I have not added a blog in quite a while...haven't been sure what to write...and also had been a bit dissappointed in myself for a while.

I had let myself backslide some for a couple of months or so. Gained about 15 pounds...its funny how easy it was :) I also slacked off on logging my food, which was the main thing that helped me so much in losing weight. Also, I gave up the gym and running and, in general, was not exercising near enough.

Okay...enough of that trash... Tue, 21 Aug 2012 12:30:23 EST Ups and Downs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4777806 Have not been on Sparkpeople foe a few days...and then just to check in quick. Kinda backsliding in the healthy eating department. Have gained a few pounds...not happy with the scale right now, but still stepping on it every Monday. Have started out each day with good intentions...packing a healthy lunch and having a decent breakfast...but, it falls apart a little as the day wears on. I am in need of some extra willpower.

Its not all bad. In the last three weeks I have run tw... Tue, 21 Feb 2012 10:10:51 EST Moving Faster http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4698748 Yesterday I completed week 5 of my couch-5k running plan...which means I had a 20 minute uninterrupted run. This probably doesn't sound like much to the marathon runners...but, considering I have likely not run a cumulative 20 minutes in the last 15 years, this is a satisfying accomplishment for me.

My right knee is a bit stiff, since I crammed the entire week's training into 3 consecutive days. On to 2012! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4651872 Today is my 2 year Sparkaversary!

On January 2, 2010 I stepped on a scale for the first time in a few years (a scale I had to buy from amazon.com, because our existing scale would not weigh me). The scale said 406 pounds. A wake up call for a 52 year old man. I realized this may be the final call to salvage my relatively good health.

Stopped eating like a teenager and began an adult diet. After a while I added a walking regimen.

My Sparkaversary report: <B... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 09:51:43 EST By the Numbers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3781083 I have not added a blog recently, but I have been thinking lately about numbers...there are lots of them involved in the process of getting fit and losing weight. My work consists of handling numbers all day long, so I naturally do the math on everything. Here are a few things I have come up with.

First...Since January I have lost 126 pounds (113 of them with Sparkpeople). Given my starting weight I am now, as I show on my sparkpage, 70 percent of the man I use to be. This seem... Sat, 13 Nov 2010 10:34:38 EST "Fitting in" better! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3124463 When some folks lose weight, they talk about "fitting in". They "fit in" smaller clothes, like favorite jeans.

I was sitting in a metal office chair today, in the office of my boss...a place where I have sat hundreds of times, squeezing into the chair, rubbing both sides. I noticed today that I "fit in" better.

While getting my haircut last week, in a stylist's chair where I have sat dozens of times....in the past it was a tight spot! I told my wife that I would not eat ice cream unless we made a special trip and ate it somewhere else but home....well thats what we did.

I discovered that our new local ice cream parlor, Scoops n' More (emphasis on "More") has a rather large hot fudge sundae. Sun, 14 Feb 2010 18:41:10 EST Don't go to Whole Foods hungry! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2853467 I am glad that the nearest Whole Foods store is over 60 miles away, so that I do not find myself in one everyday...especially when very hungry!

They have a great food bar, where I racked up a 1200 calorie lunch/dinner. I have rarely, in the past weeks, made it up into my suggested calorie range... I did today.

But we stayed away from buying any bakery items...only getting some fish for this weeks dinners.

Don't shop hungry !! :) Sun, 7 Feb 2010 20:09:50 EST Real Men don't ask for doggy bags http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2850072 "Real men don't get doggy bags" is what I jokingly said to my wife at a restaurant today. For the first time I can remember ever doing, I actually boxed half of my lunch (veal parmesian) and took it home to eat at another meal. She did the same. Money and calories saved! Sat, 6 Feb 2010 21:13:08 EST Had a Clam steam http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2773937 Being from the North and currently living down South, I have become used to BBQ's, and miss going to clam steams...they just don't know about that here! I just recreated a clam steam in my microwave steamer by steaming up a couple of dozen small (littleneck) clams for my wife and I. We also steam a couple of ears of corn. The clams are suprisingly low on calories and high on protein for a dozen. A nice change of pace too. My worst problem is that I am falling well below the calorie range suggested for my stats...I find that I really don't care to eat that much...however....on a trip to Fresh Market today for some fish, my wife bought a couple of black-and-white cookies. Being formally from NY state, these cookies are my absolute favorite bakery item. I have a feeling that one will disappear very... Mon, 18 Jan 2010 21:33:11 EST
