FITKITTYMAMA's SparkPeople Blog FITKITTYMAMA's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Embracing April The first three months of 2013 have been full of change, challenges and growth. I am now at a point where I am ready for amazing things to start happening and I am really excited.

I have a lot of wonderful things happening in my life right now, including a new fitness business that I have just started. I am really excited about it, but completely nervous as well. I want to be successful, but I am a little scared. I obviously can't promote the business here on Sparkpeople, but if yo... Sun, 31 Mar 2013 20:29:19 EST Motivation Technique I've been working on some things to get me motivated to do what needs to be done throughout the day (not necessarily fitness related), and I think I have found something that's working right now...

I make a to-do list for the day, usually with 5 or 6 things that need to be done (this breaks down the bigger projects into smaller tasks as well) and then I assign each task with a letter. Once I complete all of the tasks with the same letter, I can do something fun. I break things up s... Wed, 20 Mar 2013 14:01:24 EST Checking in I'm smiling again, I'm getting things done, and I'm getting movement throughout the day. I'm still eating way too many calories right now, but that is already starting to shift as well. But the main thing is, I'm back to myself again, finally! I am really focusing on making sure that I am tracking, posting and following through with my goals right now, but I'm having fun as well!

Yesterday I posted a fun blog on my personal site that I wanted to share with all of you as well, here'... Tue, 19 Mar 2013 11:50:43 EST Rolling with the Punches I woke up this morning with a really bad migraine. I've suffered from migraines for years and have learned to work through them most of the time. Every so often, though, one is really bad and I am not able to just work through it. Today has been one of those bad ones.

As I was the opening manager at work, I had to go into the store, but I let my boss know that I wouldn't be able to work the entire day. We covered the afternoon part of my shift, and I came back home as soon as anoth... Mon, 18 Mar 2013 18:31:29 EST Back into the Swing I have been using the last couple of days to get back into the swing of things... short walks, more water, joining new teams, etc. I really want to get back to my longer walks but the weather and lack of sleep are making it harder. At least with the time change, I'll be able to start walking home from work soon!

Some observations from the last couple of days:

1. Increasing my water intake has meant more frequent trips to the bathroom. I know this will balance itself out ... Sun, 17 Mar 2013 23:11:36 EST Re-Booting My Spark I have lost my motivation somewhere along the way. After all of the stress, anxiety, fear, packing, moving, relief, depression, etc of the last 5 1/2 months, I cannot seem to get myself back into my healthy habits that I had created before everything happened. I came to the realization that I can't do this without help... and that means getting back to the basics and doing what worked for me in the beginning.

I can't say that I'm starting again or really that I'm starting over, bec... Fri, 15 Mar 2013 15:03:02 EST Getting it Together As you know from reading my blogs and status updates, the last 2 months have pretty much been taken up by packing, moving and unpacking for me. And realizing I own a lot of stuff! In the course of unpacking, I managed to strain my back and have spent the last week dealing with lower back pain. Needless to say, this has kept me from really re-starting my workout program even longer. I have been trying to take it easy when I'm at home, but I still have to stand for 8 hours a day at work and my ... Sun, 24 Feb 2013 15:45:33 EST Finally Home I am finally almost done with the unpacking! There are only 3 boxes left for me to unpack! And of those 3, one of them is decor and another is supplements, so they should be pretty simple. The only one that may take a while is the rest of my office supplies. I have a small writing desk now and before I moved to Washington I had a large corner computer desk with lots of storage. I am going to need to figure out where everything is going to go... I think that's probably why I've saved this box ... Wed, 20 Feb 2013 13:58:15 EST Ready for the Next Step I am so ready to be done unpacking now! I have made a lot of progress, but when I look around at all of the boxes that are left to be unpacked I sometimes get frustrated. I know that moving takes a lot of time and energy (and money), I'm just ready to move one to what comes next!

I am off work today and Wednesday and I am really hoping that I can finish up the last few big projects that are remaining so I can just do the little decorating bits after that. I really want to get my wo... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 15:36:23 EST Unpacking, Losing and a New Beginning I have been so busy the last month that I haven't had much time to devote to Spark or to regular workout sessions, but I have been getting a lot of activity!

I got the keys to my apartment about a week and a half ago, but didn't actually move in until this past Friday. I have been going pretty hard over the last couple of weeks and haven't really taken any rest time between finishing packing everything, cleaning my room at the house, the actual move itself, and now unpacking. All w... Thu, 7 Feb 2013 00:42:20 EST Moving Update For the last two weeks, my life has been focused on my move... and I still have a few of weeks to go! At this point I have been really focusing on getting everything packed and out to the garage. I realize that I still need to be able to function until the actual day that I move, but the more that I can get done early, the more I can focus on some of the other stuff I want to accomplish this month as well.

I have gotten a lot of the paperwork stuff taken care of, including changing... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 01:35:09 EST Moving On... Moving Forward I found out yesterday that I got the apartment I wanted, so I will be moving at the end of this month. I'll be picking up my keys on the 26th, but won't actually be moving my furniture and stuff until the 1st. The time difference is mostly logistical with budgeting for the moving truck and getting my brother up here to help me move. I needed a January move-in date to get this apartment, so I'll just start moving smaller stuff over initially until I can move in the big stuff.

I am i... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 00:01:05 EST I'm Still Here I haven't posted a blog in a while, or posted on message boards, or even tracked my food or fitness, but I haven't left Spark, I am still here.

I have had a lot of stuff going on over the last 3 months, mostly related to my roommate's new boyfriend and some issues from my past his presence has stirred up. Plus my roommate and I have been fighting a lot, and we've always been super close, so this has been doubly hard. Add to that another promotion at work and a trip home to see my p... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 00:16:40 EST The Blog I've Been Waiting to Write~ 50 lbs GONE!! This is the blog I’ve been waiting to write, and at times I really wasn’t sure that I would ever be able to write it! But now it is official, so I can shout it from the roof-tops and share it with all of you… I have officially lost 50 lbs and am halfway to my goal weight! Actually, I have technically lost 51.8 lbs thanks to a 2 lb loss this week!

Having been overweight or obese for pretty much my entire life, I never really believed that I could lose weight. I tried so many times o... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 02:42:50 EST Set Backs and Moving Forward So I’m pretty frustrated. I mentioned that I exacerbated my injury (torn plantaris muscle) by pushing too hard, too fast on Friday. So now it looks like there will be no walking for me for 2 weeks, and no running for at least 6 weeks. This means that I need to completely re-think my entire fitness program for the time being. I can still work on upper body and core strength, but I need to take it easy on my leg, so my lower body strength will be limited. My cross-training tends to be DVDs (kic... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 01:55:44 EST 10WoFF~ Week 4 Recap Overall week 4 was pretty much a bust. I did resume my walking program and thought everything was going along great until I re-aggravated my injury on Friday evening. I did well with my personal blog, but didn't meet my goal here on Spark. And I didn't meet any of my other goals concerning food, supplements, etc.

I am not beating myself up though, because it was still a successful week in other areas, just not my Focused Fitness goals. I accomplished a lot of my other goals as far ... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 21:13:21 EST 10WoFF~ Week 3 Recap/ Week 4 Goals Whoops! I forgot to post my recap of Week 3 yesterday... sorry!

So for week 3, here are my results:
1. Food... still not tracking, but at least making a conscious effort to make healthy choices
2. Strength... 1 full body workout this week, took a complete rest day on what should have been my 2nd strength day to heal my injury.
3. Supplements... started out the week great, but got off track right about the time I eased up on exercise.
4. Boot Camp... none this we... Sun, 2 Sep 2012 16:12:05 EST Disabled List Yes, unfortunately, I am on the disabled list. While walking home on Sunday night I experienced a sharp and lingering pain in my left calf muscle. I was only about halfway home, but continued the rest of the way, figuring it would work itself out. I was a little sore the rest of the day, but nothing too bad. On Monday, I walked to work and had a few twinges of pain, but nothing too bad. That evening I had some soreness, but again nothing too bad. Tuesday included a run, after which I was very... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 02:40:53 EST 10 Weeks of Focused Fitness~ Week 3 Goals I am thinking about changing this to 10WoFF to shorten my titles, but I have not decided completely yet.

Anyway, on to the goals. This week is pretty similar to the first 2 weeks as far as goals are concerned, but I am changing things up somewhat.

1. FOOD: Track food at least 5 days this week, focus on getting enough protein and increasing freggie servings while staying within calorie range

2. STRENGTH: 2 full body workouts

3. SUPPLEMENTS: Take them... Mon, 27 Aug 2012 02:38:41 EST 10 Weeks of Focused Fitness~ Week 2 Recap My goals were pretty much hit or miss this week.

1. Track food & stay in calorie range: MISS. I didn't track my food at all this week! I know that this is the area where I really need to focus if I am going to break through my plateau!

2. Strength: HIT. I revamped my strength days, but still hit all of the workouts I wanted to get done!

3. Supplements: HIT & MISS. I completely skipped one day, but stayed on track the rest of the week.

4. 28 Day Boot... Sun, 26 Aug 2012 02:23:29 EST How I Know I have tried several times throughout my life to lose weight, more times really than I can count. I remember feeling out of place and overweight as early as middle school when they weighed up for PE. My feelings of being unattractive and overweight continued and grew throughout high school and beyond. And yes, I was probably slightly overweight then, but nothing like what my weight would creep up to in my mid to late 30s. Every time in the past that I tried to lose weight... including 3 previ... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 02:34:51 EST 10 Weeks of Focused Fitness~ Week 2 Goals Basically this week's goals are pretty much the same as last week's with 2 slight alterations and an addition...

1. Track all food AND STAY WITHIN IN CALORIE RANGE

2. Strength training

3. Supplements

4. Reading

5. 28 Day Bootcamp

6. Blog daily on Wordpress AND 3 TIMES ON SPARK

7. SELECT AND BEGIN RUNNING PROGRAM

Mon, 20 Aug 2012 02:48:23 EST 10 Weeks of Focused Fitness~Week 1 Recap So, I have finished the first week of my personal challenge to get to an overweight BMI before I head home for a visit in October. I did pretty well this week, not perfect, but still met or came close to meeting my goals. Here's a break down:

1. Tracking my food. I tracked food most of the week, though did not track yesterday due to TOM induced pigging-out and have not tracked yet today (a bit more of the same, though not as bad). One thing that I noticed is that I am still really ... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 01:29:06 EST 10 Weeks of Focused Fitness~ Week 1 Goals I did the calculations and I am going home in just over 10 weeks. That means if I want to break this plateau and get to my "overweight" BMI zone before I see all the people from home, I have 10 weeks to do it! The good news is that I am about 14 lbs away, so its certainly possible to average just under a pound and a half a week.

So in order to accomplish this goal, I have worked out a plan... basically a set of weekly focuses for the next 10 weeks. Some of the items I am focusing o... Mon, 13 Aug 2012 02:38:43 EST Putting one Foot in front of the Other Most of the time I don't have any problems with my daily 4.5 mile round trip walk to and from work. As a matter of fact, I usually enjoy it. But then there are those days when the entire walk is nothing but torture and I hate every second of it. On those days its all I can do to keep putting one foot in front of the other to make it home. Sometimes only half the trip feels this way, but there are those rare occasions that both to and from work are a nightmare of a walk... yesterday was one of... Wed, 8 Aug 2012 13:49:44 EST Facing the Dragon For my Harry Potter team, I have a challenge to write a blog about my "dragon" that is standing in the way of reaching my goals. I've blogged about this at different points of my journey, but I think at the heart of it, my biggest obstacle remains the same... fear of losing myself along with the weight, fear of changing into someone else.

When I initially started on this weight loss journey, I thought that the only thing that would be changing was my weight. Plus adding exercise to... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 01:05:45 EST Considering a {Name} Change When I originally joined Spark many years ago, it was under a different account and a different name... Disneysmom. When I came back to Spark, I was not able to use my old screen name, so chose something different that seemed to work at the time... CAdreamer2011. This name has served me well here on Spark, but for a while now I have been considering a change.

I have another screen name that I use everywhere but Spark that fits me so much better than my Spark name and I really want... Thu, 5 Jul 2012 15:16:19 EST Well Hello! Wow, I sort of slipped off the edge of the internet somewhere there in June and completely lost touch with everyone . I barely even blogged on my main blog, let alone here on Spark! I am not altogether sure what happened, I just know that I went through some depression, a lot of stress and was just totally ambivalent to the internet for a time. I was really homesick and felt pretty alone most of the month. Its been pretty hard because I have lost touch with a lot of my IRL friends recently...... Mon, 2 Jul 2012 15:52:35 EST June Challenge So I am kicking off my June Challenge today and I wanted to share a little bit about it with all of you. I posted an expanded version of my challenge on my Wordpress blog last Saturday, but here is the challenge in a nutshell:

1. Walk, bike or run a total of 100 miles
2. Do 1000 reps each of squats, crunches & pushups
3. Eat breakfast daily
4. Attend 5 gym classes
5. Blog daily on my Wordpress blog

I will be posting weekly updates every Saturday on my... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 21:10:48 EST Progress Photos Ok, I promised that I would share a before and current photo of my progress when I hit 175 lbs. Since I am currently at 174 as of my last weigh in, I owe you those photos!

Before:

This was taken Thanksgiving of 2010 when I was at my highest weight, 215 lbs. I am the one in the black (the rest of the people in the photo are my parents, brother & sister-in law)

Current:
<img src="http... Fri, 25 May 2012 00:53:27 EST Changing My Spark If you noticed my status a few days ago, you saw that I was thinking about leaving. You may have also seen a status where I said Goodbye. I'm not sure how many of you saw it, as only a few people commented. And that's okay.

What is going on with me is that I am at a juncture where things in my life are going really well. The things that I usually worry about are finally in a place where I don't need to worry (aside from money, but I think I'll always worry about that). So now I am ... Tue, 15 May 2012 15:35:53 EST Now Hiring: Coach/ Cheerleader For the last few days I have been feeling disenchanted and unenthusiastic. I feel like something really important is missing from my life, but I really don't know what it is.

I am truly grateful for everything that I have in my life and some parts of my life are fantastic, but I want more and I feel guilty for that. I have a great roommate, I have an amazing family and terrific friends. I have a good job and was just promoted and am in line for another promotion at the end of July.... Thu, 10 May 2012 15:28:41 EST Hello Sparkpeople! Hi everyone! It feels like forever since I've last blogged on Spark, though I think its only been a week. I am blogging so much on my offsite blog and having such a great time with it. Please stop by and read some of my recent entries if you get a chance.

Anyway, yesterday was my delivery from Full Circle and I wanted to share my yummies with you...
<img s... Wed, 2 May 2012 02:08:35 EST Earth, Wind, Fire or Water? OK, take two on my Goddess challenge blog! I had an error with the first attempt at posting and it deleted the entire post, so hopefully we'll be more successful this time!

I was challenged to post a blog describing which Goddess I am... earth, wind, fire or water. This was really easy for me to determine because, while I am not a strong swimmer, I have always had a strong affinity for water.

(sourc... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 01:18:46 EST Evolving Spark So I mentioned in my status update yesterday that I was making some changes to my Spark stuff. I am still working on changing up how I will be using Spark going forward, but I just wanted to update everyone on what it is that I am doing.

Over the last week I have gone through and eliminated over half of the teams that I belonged to. I had way too many teams (42) and was unable to devote the time necessary to really interact with any of the teams. I currently have 13 teams, though a... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 13:53:55 EST Veggies on my Doorstep Today was my first produce delivery from Full Circle Farm. I have been looking forward to this delivery since I signed up a couple weeks ago. I knew it would be delivered over night and be here by 6am, so I was awake at 6 and so excited when I found my boxes on my porch!
Because I ordered some additional items to go with my produce box, I had 2 boxes waiting for me with all kinds of goodness inside
<img src="http://... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 23:40:39 EST What I Do For ME This is another challenge blog, this time for The Challenge of Harry Potter team. I am supposed to write a blog about the great things that I do for myself daily or weekly to keep my "enemies" at bay.

One of the biggest things that I have done for myself is to give up my bus pass. It sounds kind of weird, but by not buying the monthly bus pass, I have to commit to walking at least 5 days a week in order to get to work. I also need to walk to take care of errands unless I arrange to... Sun, 15 Apr 2012 22:02:58 EST Tears of Joy This is going to be a very quick blog because I need to leave for work in a little while, but I couldn't leave without posting this!

For pretty much most of my adult life, at least as much of it as I can remember, I have weighed over 180 lbs. For a very long time I stayed in the 180s (about 10 years) before creeping into the higher weight brackets. Every time I have attempted to lose weight in the past, I would get into the 180s then get derailed in some way. I even posted a blog a... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 12:05:44 EST Why I am a Goddess Time for another challenge blog! There will be a few challenge blog posts from me this week from a couple of different challenges. This one is from my DONE Girl team (Done Being the Fat Girl), Frolicking Summer Goddess Challenge. In this blog I will be telling you why I'm a Goddess, how I'm going to become even better, and give you some starting stats. There should also be a starting photo for the challenge, but I don't have a current one available right now...

So, I am not actuall... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 01:35:59 EST Changing Plans& Sending Motivation So I had originally planned to do a boot camp day yesterday and spend my Easter working out. Those plans ended up changing after I completed my first round of cardio & strength when my roommate informed me that she was kidnapping me and taking me to her dad's house for Easter dinner and I was not allowed to say no. So while I did not spend my day exercising as planned, I still had a great day.

My roommate has been very generous including me with her friends and family since I moved... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 01:35:14 EST 4/7/12 Today was a good day. I am feeling much better, the weather was beautiful, and I accomplished what I needed to get done, so all in all I would say that is was a successful day too.

So, what exactly did I get done today? I took a 4 mile walk in the sunshine. I cleaned my mess of a bedroom, including making my bed. I did the dishes. I looked into blogs by other members of the Healthy Living Blogs community and started following several of them. I caught up on all of my emails (final... Sun, 8 Apr 2012 00:50:58 EST Bleh but with Happy Notes So yesterday, I started feeling a little under the weather with a scratchy throat and a cough. I was hoping that it would just be a passing thing like I've had a few times before, unfortunately this morning I woke up feeling terrible! I tried to go to work, but they sent me home after a few hours. I am hoping that all of the rest I got today, combined with lots of fluids, will help me to feel better tomorrow. I can't afford to miss any more work for one thing, and for another, I just want to ... Wed, 4 Apr 2012 23:55:10 EST Goals!!!!!! As I promised in my blog yesterday, I have a condensed version of my April goals for everyone...

1. Drink my water... at least 64oz per day
I used to have no problems meeting my water goals, but lately I have been struggling to get in at least 8 cups, I am focusing on getting back to this and making sure to track it.

2. Walk to work everyday and home on the days I don't close
I did this in January and it worked really well until it snowed. Hopefully we are done... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 00:49:10 EST The Change! So March has been a pretty difficult month for me and I am really happy that it is coming to a close. I feel strong today, like I have finally turned the corner from everything that has happened over the last few weeks. I even had a weird dream last night about school where my old teacher was there and I ended up telling off the placement coordinator. Basically I think the dream was my closure for everything that has happened with school and I am ready to get on my MY LIFE!!

So, fr... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 16:23:41 EST Life is a Struggle I have a variety of issues going on right now and I am having a really difficult time maintaining my motivation and positive attitude. I posted on my wordpress blog yesterday about a lot of what I'm feeling. Here's the link:

Last night I did not sleep well and I missed my bus this morning (though the original plan was to walk to work) so I am now going to be about 15 mins late for work (waiting for the next bus now, the stop ... Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:51:03 EST With Cunning and Grace This is another challenge blog for my Challenge of Harry Potter Team. If you like Harry Potter (books and/or movies) and weekly challenges, you should really check out this team!!

Anyway, for this blog I am supposed to use Slytherin Cunning to overcome my obstacles on my weight-loss journey Right now I seem to have several obstacles that I need to overcome.

1. I'm too tired~ after pulling 17 hour days for a few weeks, my body has been exhausted, but I have been getting ... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 00:13:33 EST Life is Great Today I have been doing lots of cleaning, one of the first steps necessary to get myself back on track. I am almost completely done with the bathroom, am about halfway done with the laundry and still have a few things to do in the bedroom including making my bed. I also need to clean out my pantry and put together a menu plan for the rest of the month, but I will be doing both of those later this week.

Tomorrow I am switching my focus to myself and planning some much needed pamper... Mon, 19 Mar 2012 16:06:59 EST Plan for the Week Now that I am done with my extern and am no longer pulling the long hours I have been over the last few weeks, I am ready to get back into my workout routine and back on track with my goals!

Here is my plan for this week:
Sunday- off
Monday- Strength & Cardio Dancing
Tuesday- Running & Fitness DVD
Wednesday- Strength & Fitness DVD
Thursday- Running & Bike
Friday- Strength & Zumba
Saturday- Running & Bike

I also want to get back into wal... Sun, 18 Mar 2012 23:21:10 EST The Light at the End of the Tunnel This week I had to concede that I cannot squeeze more into an already long and busy day and admit that until I am done with my externship and can commit to the training schedule fully, I need to step back a bit from my running training. I really wanted to try to get in all three training days this week, but was unable to fit in the time.

The good news is that this is only temporary and will be over very soon. I have one more week left on my extern (that's just 5 days... only 40 hou... Sun, 11 Mar 2012 03:22:46 EST What's Changed?? My life has changed so much in the past year, its really amazing. This time last year I had just found out that I was going to be moving to Washington. I was making plans to pack, sell, and donate everything that was in my apartment, budgeting for truck rental and storage, cancelling utilities and all that good stuff. One of my best friends, who was my roommate at the time was in the process of moving out of the apartment and packing his stuff up. It was a time of stress, fear, excitement, ne...
