FITBIZZZ's SparkPeople Blog FITBIZZZ's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community fabulousness Ohmygosh! Aren't these just FABulous! I'm really getting excited about Buttercup's graduation party this week and then my friend whose daughter's graduation party was last week had these monstrosities (but FAB monstrosities) leftover and didn't know what to do with them, so she called me and asked if I wanted them and I was all like helsyeah! [breathe] They're HUGE and fun and they're making me giggle.

AND I got like 5000 steps emptying out my car at the recycle center so I could f... Mon, 23 May 2016 17:58:52 EST this & that weekend shenanigans End of school many shenanigans. Some healthy and miscellaneous updates in no particular order...

Awards day. Sun, 22 May 2016 11:28:48 EST happy accidents With the house maintenance woes behind me for the time being, I move on to D.A.R.E. The kids enjoyed a county-wide DARE graduation. If you don't know, it's a whole program to teach kids to say no to drugs. Stands for drugs awareness-something-or-another. I dunno. It was highly entertaining and a whole slew of kids won bikes for their essays and drawings. It was nice. Performers busting bricks with their heads ...because that's better then saying yes to the maryjane?!? I think I missed somethi... Thu, 19 May 2016 08:13:42 EST good help found I bow down to the septic god of whom I just found out his name thoust Donnie. Donnie (Jr.) is the man. DA MAN. It's funny, once he found my penchant for using language not befitting a lady, the $#&T stories started overflowing. Woo, nothing like being up a $$$$ creek without the proverbial paddle like with the last plumber who stuck it to us. A little full of $%^& that one is. But this guy, Donnie, is a good, hardworking man and he's honest. D's young apprentice looked a little mortified tha... Wed, 18 May 2016 13:02:00 EST keeping the spark alive As I'm always looking for motivation and inspiration to keep a healthy lifestyle, I'd like to make note of a few for posterity AND lest I forget.

I was a little down this morning. Just a little. I have a lot of adulting to do today. A couple of months ago, it was making a will in testament. Today, it's computer maintenance and homeownership woes. And I say just a little, because GOSH I have so much to be thankful for owning a computer and and home plus much more. But it still does... Tue, 17 May 2016 10:46:36 EST purging A little weekend update for my records. It's going to get a little intimate with some bodily functions if you would like to turn away now, I completely understand.

I feel like my body's going through a bit of a purge from forgoing sugar (mostly) since January. I've done well with it and am feeling so much better for it. Except...I'll talk about it in a minute after a few other points (I'll post one more warning before it starts). I know it's personal but it's health and diet relat... Mon, 16 May 2016 11:55:17 EST Let's go already I heard there would be hiking today. When we go? Coffeeschmoffee. Sun, 15 May 2016 11:15:32 EST results As promised, I'm reporting my 6 month doctor results. I reported earlier that I see her quarterly but apparently my maths is no good. AnyWHO, I'm super pleased with my results and I'm taking copies of the results to seek further help from a more action-oriented, holistic doctor. I LOVE my doctor and will continue to see her but I'm ready to stray from traditional medicine a bit to seek the best me I can possibly achieve. I've seen much improvement with my physique, moods, and more but there's... Fri, 13 May 2016 21:16:24 EST sugah babababababum ahh honeyhoney Just a quick update. So, in January I gave up sweets. Mostly. I gave up the blatant sweets, that is. My triggers like baked goods, milk chocolate, etc. This was my version of weaning because I couldn't partake in those food items without wanting more. It's the nature of the sugar [beast]. I also knew that I could do more but felt like this was a good start for me thus my version of weaning.

Today I have a follow-up appointment with the doc and get my blood test results. Historical... Fri, 13 May 2016 09:46:19 EST shiny, healthy, happy highlights Today I'm taking the time to notice the things that make me happy. Coincidentally, or not so coincidentally, I found that the things that drew my attention are healthy too. I got to sleep in 15 extra minutes since we're not carpooling this week. Our friend is at a nature camp with his grade this week. Come to think of it, I need to find out where they're doing their day hikes. I need to go crash it, err I mean, go be a chaperone. Best idea I've had all week! I knew there was a reason I liked ... Tue, 10 May 2016 10:34:25 EST shhh...don't tell I have a secret. I like when the husband is traveling or staying over for work. He averages about 2x a week. I get to cook the boy, who has similar food tastes with me, and I what we want. That's not to say I don't love when he is home because that's fun too. And he cooks.

But tonight, we are going to enjoy sushi with shrimp and veggies. The Walrus neither likes shrimp nor sushi so let's go!

Although I have the mechanics of making sushi down, my last 2 attempts have fa... Mon, 9 May 2016 19:11:00 EST wildflower saturday I'm sad I have to miss Wildflower Saturday at the park tomorrow. I think this is my 3rd year in a row to miss. It's all good though. We took a hike today to get my fill. It was so beautiful out this week. Tomorrow, we enjoy opening weekend at the farmers' market, I get an overdue haircut, and then we get to dress up for a fancy charity dinner. So very thankful.

<img src="http://p... Fri, 6 May 2016 18:52:15 EST currently enjoying Today I'm focusing on things I enjoy. And work. But mostly joy. Part of my enjoyment is food but food that makes me feel good. Sure, I love my sweets but they don't make me feel good and it surely doesn't help the waistline.

My thoughts also include thinking about walking the canyon rim tonight, buying a decent bottle of wine tomorrow (I struck out last week and am trying to find a use for a bottle of crappy wine now), cleaning the floors (right? It'll make me feel good yo), and s... Tue, 3 May 2016 13:11:27 EST the bottom fell out Just got the boy, the dog, and myself out the door for a 2 mile walk. Last week really got away from me. Westley was busy with climbing practice and a comp over the weekend. I had to go to Atlanta to exchange work and I had end of month deadlines where I worked with any little extra time I had. West was taken care of, my deadlines were met, and things got done. We also enjoyed a theater production for Big Fish and The Illusionists on tour. So much fun. But my healthy regimen? Not so much. I w... Mon, 2 May 2016 18:08:03 EST It's all good Got my steps in and then the real workout began...I put the allergen cover encasing back on the king-sized mattress. Phew. Wed, 27 Apr 2016 12:55:30 EST outside all day

I'm just sitting here this morning with my cuppa and reminiscing all the way back to yesterday. It was SO much FUN. These kids are amazing. We spent time with some really good people and Westley took his climbing to the the next level. I got some good hiking and lounging in while I watched these amazing athletes. These kids, our friends (and coaches) and some other young adults there truly i... Sun, 24 Apr 2016 10:55:24 EST happy day after Boy, did I celebrate 4/20 by buying lots of pot. s. By buying lots of pots of plants. Ahoyhoy! I know, I'm HIGHlarious. Crack myself up, I do.

But seriously, I did get inspired. A friend gave me a a bunch of transplants of hostas, mint, lambs ear, and oregano. Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:19:37 EST trailing with shine 2
I feel myself slipping after months of not craving sweets. This is the part that the weight starts creeping back on. I allow myself a little and slowly I'm back to where I started, if not worse. It's not that I think I can get away with it, it just slowly creeps back in my life. I don't have an exact plan because this is the part I've never figured out how to overcome. I've read it all (I think). 50 other things to do other than [mindlessly] eat for example.

Going to... <BR... Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:47:05 EST smyrna to anniston
Starting out yesterday, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Jen told me to lift my head for a better angle. I think I overdid it. Hee.

We did it!

Smyrna, GA to Anniston, AL. Apparently I can't spell Smyrna on the fly but it was a good one. I lost count of miles but it was more than 90. We took an 18 month hiatus after completing the Silver Comet Trail when life got on the way. We p... Mon, 18 Apr 2016 08:59:30 EST Sightings Caught a good sighting on the trail yesterday. Thinking about the snake that I saw last week that made me jump higher than I knew was possible, made me wonder if that rattler I saw one time after eating something big if it could eat Shine too. Then I saw this little guy. Helllllo! P.S. Shine's ok. No snakes today. Sun, 17 Apr 2016 18:45:33 EST not as fun So, messing with a friend is not as fun as I thought it would be. Although, maybe just a little.

Recap from yesterday's post: I recently reacquainted with an old work friend and we became "friends" on fitbit. Shortly before midnight (every night this week) she would "beat" my steps by a few hundred. Maybe this is supposed to be motivational but I just found it this side of annoying. Since I have an archaic (but working) fitbit that only updates when I'm near my computer, I unplugge... Sat, 16 Apr 2016 09:44:38 EST exhhhaaaalllle Yep, all taxed out. I have a few more things to tick off but I'm mostly caught up. Federal. 2 states. County. City. Biz. Sales. Ad Valorem. Checketycheckcheck. CPA that I hired this year? Worth every pretty penny. She even redid and refiled 2014's taxes because the cheap accountant that hired last year turned out to be very expensive. You know, redoing his screwups and all. Oy.

But now I can exhale. My shoulders went back down a little bit.

Yesterday was more canyon rim... Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:03:35 EST beans beans good for your heart LOVE this recipe (link below and posted yesterday). Of course, you know I tweaked it. For one thing, I always think it's ludicrous to put a 1/4C of oil on anything. I used about an eighth maybe less and I didn't use plain evoo or plain vinegar. Oh no, we can do better than that. ;-)

*what I did differently from recipe

2 cans of black beans drained and rinsed
2 cans... Thu, 14 Apr 2016 12:15:23 EST making do Boy I need to get to the grocery store. I opened the fridge to some coconut milk, tons of condiments, an avocado, sprouted grain bread, and arugula. And clementines on the counter. Lunch anyone? I think I made do though, tastily. Surprisingly.

Sauteed arugula in lemon olive oil and finished off with hibiscus sea salt, black pepper, and black seed + Smooshed up avocado with a little sea ... Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:43:10 EST celebrating Celebrated Jen's 40th birthday. Jen is the one I've been section hiking various long trails with. I can't believe she's 40!!! She was my "younger" college friend back in the day. I guess a few years seemed a lot bigger back then. We reconnected a few years ago and I'm so glad. I enjoyed an evening out with a bunch of fine ladies and a few gents. Her best friends from high school pulled off this surprise party. I got to see people I haven't seen in about 15 years including former co-workers fr... Mon, 11 Apr 2016 09:14:29 EST another I had another lovely evening walk last night. I was joined by the Walrus and a friend (whose property it is) for part of it. Perfect temps and the friend showed me some parts of the land that I hadn't explored yet. So lovely. I spent the rest of the time getting my steps in while the Walrus napped and Westley finished climbing practice.

I have a lot in store this coming week. Today, I'm attending a college friend's surprise birthday party at a Mexican restaurant and a comedy show a... Sat, 9 Apr 2016 09:42:43 EST yummy finds Yum! Knowing that we were having ginger chicken salad for dinner, I vegged out for lunch. Polenta lightly pan fried in toasted sesame oil, seasoned with Thai Garden spice blend, sea salt, cracked black pepper, and garnished with a squeeze of lime - served with a side of steamed green beans.

Shine and I got our steps in. Wed, 6 Apr 2016 08:44:22 EST i can breathe again I can finally work at full functionality now after almost a week of the remote and local servers being down! Yesterday they got the local up so I could access with some external software. It was doable but not very functional. And super slow. That was made available by noon. This morning I can access remotely with all functionality which means -- full speed ahead. Ah, just I was coming to a place of acceptance. Heehee.

It's all good though. Before noon, Shine and I managed to sque... Tue, 5 Apr 2016 09:26:04 EST what to do with myself I know, I know. Another post about how I can't work. Remote (& local) server is still down at work. I'm starting to *kind of* feel sorry for the IT guy except he's so mean. Just kidding, I still feel badly for him.

I'm kind of getting used to it, this not working thing. I won't know today's status for a few more hours so Shine and I are going to rack up the miles again. And I think I'm going to finish a documentary I started last night about a crazy-a$%ed ultra race. It's super in... Mon, 4 Apr 2016 09:13:07 EST who stole my bananas? Lol. I got a group message a couple of days ago. You know the kind, you don't recognize any of the numbers or who they're talking about. This particular one was to go on amazon and vote for somebody's aunt's book to win. I ignored it thinking just a wrong number.

Until.

Somebody responded to the group right after I received a message from the Walrus. Resulting in my responding to the group, instead of the Walrus. "Do you know what happened to the bananas that we bought T... Sun, 3 Apr 2016 16:20:18 EST new day So yeah, yesterday. Oy. But how did it end? Better, much better. It always does. Why doesn't it seem so at the time? Heheh.

It did get a little worse before it got better. But silver linings, yadayadayada. Westley went off with grandparents and the Walrus & I were going to have a date BUT he was sick all afternoon. I ended up getting a really good haircut and the rain let up enough for me to get some steps in running errands in the afternoon and finally walking to the salon. 9190 s... Fri, 1 Apr 2016 08:48:37 EST Not my day Westley has climbing camp today. Like yesterday, I planned on filling the time working remotely. I always have something to do. ALWAYS. Not today. Network is down. So I worked on a new website. Laptop died. Forgot cord. No yoga classes going on now. Kindle left in car (that the Walrus has). It's pouring rain. I have a long day and don't want to go through the rest of the day with wet feet so going for ... Thu, 31 Mar 2016 11:52:45 EST bridge walking I love changing up my routes and finding lots of new ways to take different ways in familiar places. We are in the midst of spring break so the boy is taking a climbing camp. While I'm passing the time, I'm walking, stretching, but mostly working (and apparently blogging). The bridges I take seem like 2 miles. I was disappointed to find that it was only about 3500 steps last week. So today, I did 2 laps. I'm saving the rest for Shine's walk later. Tomorrow I think I'll do 3 laps.

I... Wed, 30 Mar 2016 11:15:53 EST plan b (or c or d)

Soooo, it looks like we're going to miss about 2 miles of the Ladiga trail. :-( There's a huge sinkhole that's gotten bigger since it initially occurred in February. It's about 30 feet wide now. I was thinking, since we're on foot, that we could skirt around it but apparently it's impassable and engineers have all kinds of electrodes along the path to determine the best repair and how much m... Mon, 28 Mar 2016 16:08:51 EST proceeding with caution
Full moon over space camp. I like how the lamp lights look like other, smaller moons. :-)

I've been in a highly charged, emotional, and agitated state this week. I think it's mostly because I have too much on my plate. I don't like being super busy. Even though I knew this week was coming, my body still reacted.

Space Camp was super fun, educational and I got a beaucoup of s... Fri, 25 Mar 2016 17:17:23 EST more light= more everything! I had a super busy day with the kiddo yesterday. Big field trip to the big city to see the Alliance Theater's the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. SO fun! While everybody else got greasy food from the iconic The Varsity, the boy and I enjoyed veggie sushi, veggie wraps, and green apples. We felt good not having to ride the bus for 3 hours home with a tummy ache.

We enjoyed a dinner of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. I was looking forward to a Killian's too but forgot Westley had ... Fri, 18 Mar 2016 11:28:43 EST thAT's not a hill. THIS is a hill! When I go for a walk from the house, I usually turn right. It's challenging with 3 big hills. It has pleasant scenery with an overlook and I can usually see beautiful sunsets and other celestial events. And it also has a bunch of rock outcroppings where I can witness climbers practicing their skills.

But lately? Like very recently?

I started turning left. I used to go that way a couple of years ago but they clear cut a good portion of the mountain and it depressed me. Th... Tue, 15 Mar 2016 09:28:38 EST dagnabit I snoozed a little extra this morning and did not look ahead to the weather. I can handle rain, but lightning? Meh no, especially atop a mountain.

I know there's other options but walking is my fav. :-) I'm going to try and break away at 10 for a quickie.

Of course, I may have a 2nd chance around 5. Mon, 14 Mar 2016 10:09:32 EST next quest Only a few more days until the next 13 or so miles of the Chief Ladiga trail.

Recap: My friend Jen & I finished piece hiking the Silver Comet Trail, 61.5 miles, almost 2 years ago. The Silver Comet Trail continues over the GA/AL line for 33 miles, known as the Chief Ladiga Trail. We did 13.6 of it a couple of weeks ago. Now, we're all caught up.

Last week, the boy and I biked about 10 miles of Ladiga. These trails are part of the national rails to trails initiative. It'... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 17:59:09 EST healing hurts [sometimes] I was dragging a couple of times on my walks this week. I wasn't getting the usual euphoric feeling of completing one. Even if I set out on a walk not wanting to, I always feel good about it afterward. There could be an underlying reason of my not feeling tip-top but I won't know for sure until May (derm follow-up in a couple of weeks and blood work in May). I have a feeling it's nourishment though. Mostly food. I'm not eating junk but this week I haven't loaded up on the veggies like I usual... Sat, 12 Mar 2016 09:04:21 EST you can't come home I reluctantly read an article yesterday. An article about a dad telling his daughter the week she was getting married that she couldn't come home. My first thought was that's a little harsh. But he made some very valid points. It was her marriage and whatever happened, he couldn't fix it for her. She would have to feel the feels and work it out with her husband. No matter what.

It struck a chord. Although the points were valid and right on, I don't agree 100%. But I don't have to. ... Fri, 11 Mar 2016 10:24:19 EST making headway Felt a surge of momentum this morning. Got the wii board out for a weigh-in and am down almost 8 lbs. To celebrate, Shine took me for a hike.

She insisted.

It was a bit wetter than expected but the morning was gorgeous. Sun, 6 Mar 2016 14:17:36 EST another winner It's cold now and I'm trying to stay healthy. Sickness keeps creeping in, going away, creeping in again. Just like the weather...winter. spring. winter. spring. BUT the weekend's outlook is looking beautiful. The boy and I are headed back to the Chief Ladiga trail for some lovely bike riding and brunch at one of my new favorite restaurants in the middle of nowhere that my friend and I found last week while hiking. I think Westley will really like it.

Another winning smoothie this m... Thu, 3 Mar 2016 08:56:58 EST be an inspirational goddess This morning a friend of mine posted about how insensitive friends can be sometimes. Never intentional but still painful. She pontificated further that we're living in an environment of bullying especially in the current political arenas. We're surrounded by it. Personally, I've only heard rumors and read articles, I can't take all of it. It's why I gave up TV in the 2009. I internalize it all so much. Now I carefully choose the movies and programs I expose my psyche to.

But I dig... Tue, 1 Mar 2016 09:29:41 EST ugh & yay! Yesterday I was excited that I was going to reach 100,000 steps for the week. I get my weekly report on Mondays so I thought fitbit's week ended on Sunday. Wrong. It started over yesterday. But I know that I did 100,000 in 7 days' time even if my report doesn't show that. :-)

The view while getting in the last few thousand steps for the 100,000 that didn't happen.
