FITBIZZZ's SparkPeople Blog FITBIZZZ's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community where's that smell? Hot Yoga was SO good last night and a perfect way to celebrate International Yoga Day. The "free"-ness was a help too. This particular studio [was] weird in that they were known for being a bunch hard core competitive yogis. I say "weird" because hard core+competitive+yogis does not calculate. BUT I've always liked the instructors, the classes, and how the classes made me feel so I just always holed up in the corner and minded my biz except when I came out of the moment to admire their beauti... Wed, 22 Jun 2016 08:36:00 EST a bit off So my resolve to stay focused on one subject in a post, lasted all of two posts. Heheh.

WELLNESS & HEALING
I am so sore!

I've have had 4 sessions with the chiropractor. I really don't like calling these docs chiropractors. There's no popping, jolting, or the like. There are pressure points and transfers and movement of energy though. I really don't know how to describe it. I've also mentioned the highs and lows and this the last two days is leaving me sore. He told... Tue, 21 Jun 2016 13:38:39 EST Standing desk I've designed and redesigned a standing work desk for a couple of years now. I really need to act. Since Mondays are typically slow at the shop, I'm giving it a go at our counter. Burn 60 more calories an hour? Yes please. Mon, 20 Jun 2016 11:00:44 EST anxiety level: green Wow! I didn't check in on SP yesterday. I'm SO behind. My Father's Day gift to the Walrus is to give him the day off and work the shop for him today. It's not a busy kind of work most times. Busy interspersed with rushes. Point is, I think I have time to catch up a bit.

5% challenge starts next week. So there's that. I'm trying to remember how it all works. Hoping it will come back to me. ;-)

I've found a bit of momentum in my weight loss and achieving wellness. I've hi... Sun, 19 Jun 2016 13:21:42 EST second sesh I had my second session with the holistic chiropractor followed by an Optimal Living 101 class. I really learned a lot. I'm thrilled so far and I got treated by Dr. Monica this time so now I'm familiar with both doctors. I had a tougher time settling in this time but got just as much if not more out of it than my first session with Dr. Matt.

What followed were the most vivid dreams of the likes I haven't had in quite some time.

<img src="http://photosaws.sparkpeople.c... Fri, 17 Jun 2016 09:28:29 EST i'm crooked SO! I had more health news to share like I mentioned yesterday. I told a friend (hheeyy SERENE-AGAIN!) I was trying to be more succinct in my blogs (not really how my brain works and that usually reflects in my writing). A little more focus couldn't hurt. I'm talking about more than one subject at a time, not my tendency to ramble and digress. Baby steps.

I've been struggling for quite a while. I guess we all are to some extent or another but I've noticed that as I get older my cop... Thu, 16 Jun 2016 07:48:05 EST veggie delight One of my favorite things about summer, right below the freed-up schedule I've mentioned a time or ten, is the produce. PRODUCE! The Walrus does a market 2-3 times a week and we're always making trades. He came home with the mother lode last Friday. And, well you know produce, you gotta use it or lose it. We've been using it with only a few casualties to the compost.

I thought I would share some of the bounty in visual form. Again, if you're one who rolls yours eyes at pictures of ... Wed, 15 Jun 2016 08:43:35 EST mornings The last few mornings have been quite blissful. Early, sunrise walks followed by yoga.

Saturday, I got up early and walked Shine a couple of miles. Then I headed to the state park for some early morning yoga. My friend and organizer caught this pic.

I'm so excited. They're trying to make this a regular thing. It's been tough getting real, certified, and experienced yoga teach... Mon, 13 Jun 2016 08:43:52 EST a first Still making it out for early morning walks. Some long, some short depending on other activities I have planned in the day. Today, was a shorty. One to get Shine out and two to get out before it got hotter than all-get-out.

So, we saw this...

I didn't take this pic. I had to google what it was because it looked like a fox/coyote/bobcat. I dunno these things and my brai... Sun, 12 Jun 2016 16:30:02 EST sightings & progress Yesterday I changed things up a bit and split my walk into morning and twilight. It was nice. The morning offered weather in the high 50s and twilight in the high 70s. Couldn't ask much better than that. The twilight was a walk on my beloved canyon rim whilst the boy went to climbing practice. I came back and worked upper body on our friends' work benches: chest flies, chest presses, bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, overhead should raises, and frontal shoulder raises. Wore myself out I did. <BR... Fri, 10 Jun 2016 08:54:36 EST first swim Upon entering the pool yesterday, this is what I overheard:

kids: MARCO!!! POLO!!! MARCO!!! POLO!!! BUT I was sluggish and achy and not really feeling like a walk. Then I pondered the alternative. Get to work straight away and stiffen up even mo... Wed, 8 Jun 2016 09:04:43 EST filed under eee-ouch Yesterday, I mentioned (very briefly) about working on my downstairs muscles. I can go up hill all day long but my downhill muscles are weak. I've been pretty active with my hiking and walking this year but I'm to the point where weaknesses are making themselves known. I need to up my resistance training. I just haven't been consistent on that front. I started working on my upper body last month since I've been walking so much. Now, I'm added lower body resistance as well.

I've per... Tue, 7 Jun 2016 11:07:13 EST weekend warrior Jenn and my plans were thwarted. Thwarted I tell ya! Blast! Heh. The weather was so stormy for the last few days and the trails were saturated. We did not get to do Part I of hiking 40 miles of Berry College. It's a shame too. Jenn & I, but especially Jenn, were really looking forward to it. She's getting surgery this week and is looking at about 3-4 weeks recovery so we were looking forward to this last hurrah for a few weeks. We waffled back and forth all Saturday night and finally decided ... Mon, 6 Jun 2016 10:07:41 EST Shine knows Shine knows exactly what to do after 10 miles in the rain. Sun, 5 Jun 2016 12:22:30 EST ready steady Today, I'm back at my normal summer Saturday gig- running the shop. We have to come super early so the Walrus and Westley can load up and go to Saturday market. I actually had my $%^& together as in I didn't have to bring my full-time work here to stay caught up. (Have I mentioned that I love summer schedule?!? A hundred times.) So, I'm all caught up which leaves me to catching up on shop stuff and just talking and having fun with customers instead. LOVE it!

As I mentioned in my fe... Sat, 4 Jun 2016 10:43:32 EST less than stellar Don't get me wrong, I had a good start to the day. It just fell, well, less than stellar. I woke up later than I have been so it felt like I was behind. Which is silly because I work at home on my own time. I still try to keep it in check so I don't work late in the evenings and the leftovers on the weekends though. It's all good. I just didn't feel like being there and it was hotter being an hour later and all. I'm trying not to use the alarm clock this summer unless I have to.

It... Fri, 3 Jun 2016 10:37:35 EST oops i did it again
Indeed.

So four days in a row now of getting up and walking first thing. It feels good. I didn't think I would like it but I do. I do. I do like it Sam I am. Dare I say it might become a habit? You know, until it turns cold again in which I will want the warmth of the afternoon sun.

So many advantages to the early rising:
-it's not hot as hades yet
-I don't burn thi... Thu, 2 Jun 2016 09:37:59 EST best laid plans Best laid plans go better than planned. Sometimes. I thought I would try getting up 15 minutes earlier today. After working past 11 last night and reading until I don't know when, I promptly set my alarm for 30 minutes later than I first planned.

But voila! I woke up earlier than both times.

Full. Of. It.

I thought, well isn't this a good day for a couple more miles than usual.

And so it went. Shine and I already got 5 miles in.

Came ... Wed, 1 Jun 2016 10:05:15 EST the early bird

Well, I may have not gotten the worm but I could've if I wanted it! I did manage to get up earlier and it was good. I'm going to try 15 minutes earlier tomorrow. Today, I stuck to the road bypassing the trails because I couldn't find the bug spray (I promptly found it when I got home. Oof.). The temperature's rising quickly today so I was happy to reach the high 60º temp hour.

Yes... Tue, 31 May 2016 10:11:05 EST morning has broken.... and the blackbirds are making quite the ruckus along with all the other morning fowl. BUT it's all good as I'm adjusting to my new summer schedule. I started today by getting up early and immediately going for a walk. In the fall, winter, and spring, I'm in the habit of walking midday but yesterday proved to be the last time for that. Although not hot as blazes yet, it's getting there. It was a nice morning and Shine was raring to go but a new note to self: bugs are out in the morning too. Oy... Mon, 30 May 2016 10:09:45 EST winding down Ahhhh, end of school and the subsequent shenanigans. All done. Now, to start the pace in life my family as a whole enjoys much more. Sure, there will be camps and other shenanigans but it's still much slower and most importantly, all of our own choices. LOVE love love summertime!

So, we wound down with some parties, swimming, and I brought back some oldie but goodies as well as a new project.

First, I cast on for a water bottle cozy sling because I decided it's too much ... Sun, 29 May 2016 13:48:12 EST challenged? Yep, that's me. I'm a special kind of challenged. Let's see where to start on this week's challenges.

Between getting back from my office trip to Atlanta and changing into my play clothes, I have misplaced my fitbit. I was cleaning like a madwoman when I remarked to Westley, that dangit, I didn't put my fitbit back on after changing. House cleaning is always good for extra steps! Oh well. I, with a capital EYE, know it.

Still couldn't find it this morning. It got me th... Wed, 25 May 2016 10:04:56 EST fabulousness Ohmygosh! Aren't these just FABulous! I'm really getting excited about Buttercup's graduation party this week and then my friend whose daughter's graduation party was last week had these monstrosities (but FAB monstrosities) leftover and didn't know what to do with them, so she called me and asked if I wanted them and I was all like helsyeah! [breathe] They're HUGE and fun and they're making me giggle.

AND I got like 5000 steps emptying out my car at the recycle center so I could f... Sun, 22 May 2016 11:28:48 EST happy accidents With the house maintenance woes behind me for the time being, I move on to D.A.R.E. The kids enjoyed a county-wide DARE graduation. If you don't know, it's a whole program to teach kids to say no to drugs. Stands for drugs awareness-something-or-another. I dunno. It was highly entertaining and a whole slew of kids won bikes for their essays and drawings. It was nice. Performers busting bricks with their heads ...because that's better then saying yes to the maryjane?!? I think I missed somethi... Thu, 19 May 2016 08:13:42 EST good help found I bow down to the septic god of whom I just found out his name thoust Donnie. Donnie (Jr.) is the man. DA MAN. It's funny, once he found my penchant for using language not befitting a lady, the $#&T stories started overflowing. Woo, nothing like being up a $$$$ creek without the proverbial paddle like with the last plumber who stuck it to us. A little full of $%^& that one is. But this guy, Donnie, is a good, hardworking man and he's honest. D's young apprentice looked a little mortified tha... Wed, 18 May 2016 13:02:00 EST keeping the spark alive As I'm always looking for motivation and inspiration to keep a healthy lifestyle, I'd like to make note of a few for posterity AND lest I forget.

I was a little down this morning. Just a little. I have a lot of adulting to do today. A couple of months ago, it was making a will in testament. Today, it's computer maintenance and homeownership woes. And I say just a little, because GOSH I have so much to be thankful for owning a computer and and home plus much more. But it still does... Tue, 17 May 2016 10:46:36 EST purging A little weekend update for my records. It's going to get a little intimate with some bodily functions if you would like to turn away now, I completely understand.

I feel like my body's going through a bit of a purge from forgoing sugar (mostly) since January. I've done well with it and am feeling so much better for it. Except...I'll talk about it in a minute after a few other points (I'll post one more warning before it starts). I know it's personal but it's health and diet relat... Mon, 16 May 2016 11:55:17 EST Let's go already I heard there would be hiking today. When we go? Coffeeschmoffee. Sun, 15 May 2016 11:15:32 EST results As promised, I'm reporting my 6 month doctor results. I reported earlier that I see her quarterly but apparently my maths is no good. AnyWHO, I'm super pleased with my results and I'm taking copies of the results to seek further help from a more action-oriented, holistic doctor. I LOVE my doctor and will continue to see her but I'm ready to stray from traditional medicine a bit to seek the best me I can possibly achieve. I've seen much improvement with my physique, moods, and more but there's... Fri, 13 May 2016 21:16:24 EST sugah babababababum ahh honeyhoney Just a quick update. So, in January I gave up sweets. Mostly. I gave up the blatant sweets, that is. My triggers like baked goods, milk chocolate, etc. This was my version of weaning because I couldn't partake in those food items without wanting more. It's the nature of the sugar [beast]. I also knew that I could do more but felt like this was a good start for me thus my version of weaning.

Today I have a follow-up appointment with the doc and get my blood test results. Historical... Fri, 13 May 2016 09:46:19 EST shiny, healthy, happy highlights Today I'm taking the time to notice the things that make me happy. Coincidentally, or not so coincidentally, I found that the things that drew my attention are healthy too. I got to sleep in 15 extra minutes since we're not carpooling this week. Our friend is at a nature camp with his grade this week. Come to think of it, I need to find out where they're doing their day hikes. I need to go crash it, err I mean, go be a chaperone. Best idea I've had all week! I knew there was a reason I liked ... Tue, 10 May 2016 10:34:25 EST shhh...don't tell I have a secret. I like when the husband is traveling or staying over for work. He averages about 2x a week. I get to cook the boy, who has similar food tastes with me, and I what we want. That's not to say I don't love when he is home because that's fun too. And he cooks.

But tonight, we are going to enjoy sushi with shrimp and veggies. The Walrus neither likes shrimp nor sushi so let's go!

Although I have the mechanics of making sushi down, my last 2 attempts have fa... Mon, 9 May 2016 19:11:00 EST wildflower saturday I'm sad I have to miss Wildflower Saturday at the park tomorrow. I think this is my 3rd year in a row to miss. It's all good though. We took a hike today to get my fill. It was so beautiful out this week. Tomorrow, we enjoy opening weekend at the farmers' market, I get an overdue haircut, and then we get to dress up for a fancy charity dinner. So very thankful.

<img src="http://p... Fri, 6 May 2016 18:52:15 EST currently enjoying Today I'm focusing on things I enjoy. And work. But mostly joy. Part of my enjoyment is food but food that makes me feel good. Sure, I love my sweets but they don't make me feel good and it surely doesn't help the waistline.

My thoughts also include thinking about walking the canyon rim tonight, buying a decent bottle of wine tomorrow (I struck out last week and am trying to find a use for a bottle of crappy wine now), cleaning the floors (right? It'll make me feel good yo), and s... Tue, 3 May 2016 13:11:27 EST the bottom fell out Just got the boy, the dog, and myself out the door for a 2 mile walk. Last week really got away from me. Westley was busy with climbing practice and a comp over the weekend. I had to go to Atlanta to exchange work and I had end of month deadlines where I worked with any little extra time I had. West was taken care of, my deadlines were met, and things got done. We also enjoyed a theater production for Big Fish and The Illusionists on tour. So much fun. But my healthy regimen? Not so much. These kids are amazing. We spent time with some really good people and Westley took his climbing to the the next level. I got some good hiking and lounging in while I watched these amazing athletes. These kids, our friends (and coaches) and some other young adults there truly i... Sun, 24 Apr 2016 10:55:24 EST happy day after Boy, did I celebrate 4/20 by buying lots of pot. s. Thu, 21 Apr 2016 09:19:37 EST trailing with shine 2
I feel myself slipping after months of not craving sweets. This is the part that the weight starts creeping back on. I allow myself a little and slowly I'm back to where I started, if not worse. It's not that I think I can get away with it, it just slowly creeps back in my life. I don't have an exact plan because this is the part I've never figured out how to overcome. I've read it all (I think). 50 other things to do other than [mindlessly] eat for example.

Going to... <BR... Mon, 18 Apr 2016 08:59:30 EST Sightings Caught a good sighting on the trail yesterday. Thinking about the snake that I saw last week that made me jump higher than I knew was possible, made me wonder if that rattler I saw one time after eating something big if it could eat Shine too. Then I saw this little guy. Helllllo! P.S. Shine's ok. No snakes today. Sun, 17 Apr 2016 18:45:33 EST not as fun So, messing with a friend is not as fun as I thought it would be. Although, maybe just a little.

Recap from yesterday's post: I recently reacquainted with an old work friend and we became "friends" on fitbit. Shortly before midnight (every night this week) she would "beat" my steps by a few hundred. Maybe this is supposed to be motivational but I just found it this side of annoying. Since I have an archaic (but working) fitbit that only updates when I'm near my computer, I unplugge... Sat, 16 Apr 2016 09:44:38 EST exhhhaaaalllle Yep, all taxed out. I have a few more things to tick off but I'm mostly caught up. Federal. 2 states. County. City. Biz. Sales. Ad Valorem. Checketycheckcheck. CPA that I hired this year? Worth every pretty penny. She even redid and refiled 2014's taxes because the cheap accountant that hired last year turned out to be very expensive. You know, redoing his screwups and all. Oy.

But now I can exhale. My shoulders went back down a little bit.

Yesterday was more canyon rim... Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:03:35 EST beans beans good for your heart LOVE this recipe (link below and posted yesterday). Of course, you know I tweaked it. For one thing, I always think it's ludicrous to put a 1/4C of oil on anything. I used about an eighth maybe less and I didn't use plain evoo or plain vinegar. Oh no, we can do better than that. ;-)

*what I did differently from recipe

2 cans of black beans drained and rinsed
2 cans... Wed, 13 Apr 2016 12:43:10 EST celebrating Celebrated Jen's 40th birthday. Jen is the one I've been section hiking various long trails with. I can't believe she's 40!!! She was my "younger" college friend back in the day. I guess a few years seemed a lot bigger back then. We reconnected a few years ago and I'm so glad. I was joined by the Walrus and a friend (whose property it is) for part of it. Perfect temps and the friend showed me some parts of the land that I hadn't explored yet. So lovely. I spent the rest of the time getting my steps in while the Walrus napped and Westley finished climbing practice.

I have a lot in store this coming week.
