Just the moon and I. I'm gearing up for my big step day in a couple of weeks. As I outlined the other other day, a friend and I are walking 15.3 miles of the Chief Ladiga Trail, a 33 mile journey we plan to do in 2 shots.

The thing I remember about the last time we did this for the Sil... Fri, 12 Feb 2016 09:17:27 EST snack time Boy did I have a load of recycling to get rid of. There are certain items my municipality does not accept. So, I have to get it to "town" for the extras. Usually Atlanta, but today I brought it to Chattanooga's Whole Foods. I had to work the shop today, physically, not just behind the scenes, telecommuting (which I do for 2 jobs), like my usual m.o. I had to actually wake and dress first thing this morning. It's a chore I tell ya, lol.

But yay! Whole Foods! My excuse to get my fav... Thu, 11 Feb 2016 11:38:26 EST throwing and sticking
Big salad: romaine, cheddar, artichokes, hearts of palm, leftover chicken, avocado, black seed, hibiscus salt, cracked black pepper, and a drizzle of raspberry aged dark balsamic.

I've been doing a lot of "throwing things at the wall to see what's sticking."

This includes evaluating everything. Everything.

What foods are most satisfying? What snacks are just enou... Wed, 10 Feb 2016 12:37:04 EST old shenanigans made new
That's Ladiga, not ADIGA.

So, if you happened to read my blogs from a couple of years ago (or not), I chronicled a journey taken by my friend, Jennifer and me. We piece hiked the entire Silver Comet Trail from Smyra, GA to the GA/AL state line (61.5) miles in 4 trips. We could've easily done it in 3 trips but we were having such a good time that on the 3rd trip we doubled back instead ... Tue, 9 Feb 2016 10:19:58 EST this is me and my energy Today's energy is brought you you by the letters R, W, H & S.

First R, RELAX...
My friend had an open house for her new "spa." I got buffed (like one you find in automotive parts, lol), rubbed, and then a lovely young lady did a mini reiki session on me and worked on my chakras. My friend, Lisa, worked on my upper back and right shoulder. The. Knot. Is. GONE!!! Ahhhhhhh. I'm making my full-sesh appointment later this week.

<img src=" Mon, 8 Feb 2016 08:53:01 EST mini 2016 goals I have a few mini goals in mind to piggyback on the motivation(s) I mentioned in yesterday's blog. As I spoke about, my son is a huge motivator in my life right now. He walks the talk (never bothering with the talking the talk, no need for him) and is the healthiest person I know. Ever since he found his latest passion, climbing, I've been wanting to play a more active roll in his sport. You know, other than driving him everywhere and paying the fees. I'm not interested in climbing per se (at... Sun, 7 Feb 2016 11:26:34 EST motivation You know who motivates me the most these days? My son. And not just the, "I want to be there for him and have fun with him motivation." Although, I want that too. But for as long as I can remember, he is very conscientious about his health. From eating the right foods, to moving everyday...all this from a very early age. Sure, we taught him these values but for a kid who was 3&4 refusing fast food and eating wholesome foods, it's quite astounding. He has such discipline and knowledge of a hea... Sat, 6 Feb 2016 09:14:01 EST neuroses I think I'm a bit less neurotic this time around. Before, I would get so caught up, so neurotic about all the numbers, calculations and tracking...that it would be my undoing. My mind would be consumed with it all until it drove me batty. I think I'm doing better this time. Although I find it necessary to measure and track, I'm just using it as a gauge. As far as weighing in? I'm not. In part because I haven't had a scale in years (just something else to clean) but our wii board has been put ... Fri, 29 Jan 2016 09:47:21 EST energy-less I haven't had much energy this weekend. We were iced in but with lots of snow too. We enjoyed a nice walk Saturday but then our elder dog took a quick turn. It took until Sunday afternoon to get out and be able to help her. We lost her but she had a good, long life but will be sorely missed.

When I lose a family member, I like to write "my" story about them. I clarify "my" because it's exactly that. If Holly could, I'm sure she would've told it differently. I'll miss her gentle, s... Mon, 25 Jan 2016 20:42:57 EST randomness & snacks I thought I would make today's blog like the thoughts I woke up with this morning...random.

I'm surrounded by inspiration. I'll have a blog post dedicated to that soon but for now, I just need a little motivation. Inspiration. Last night I ordered some new yoga DVDs to mix up my current routine, namely the ones I make up but also a 3 series DVD I've had since 2001. Bonus, the husband is willing to try the ones I ordered. I've also had the same yoga mat since about 2000 so I ordered... Fri, 22 Jan 2016 08:47:16 EST [flourless] pancakes for breakfast

This morning I enjoyed flourless pancakes for breakfast. Turned out pretty good and for right around 328 calories, it was a delicious, filling breakfast. You can even save on the calories by using Pam spray instead of coconut oil. I like using coconut oil every chance I get for its ketogenic properties and healthy fat that makes it very filling. And yummy!

Just mash 2 eggs (or 1 ... Thu, 21 Jan 2016 08:46:31 EST snow much fun! OMgosh! We had so much fun last night. We finally got to go snow skiing, right here in good ol' AL. I have to say it is a bit like riding a bike...even after 28 some-odd years of last doing it. In fact, I think it came back quicker than when I first got back on a bike several years ago. The boy couldn't get enough. I guess I'll have to get him some proper pants and gloves so he can go back. And me too. Heehee. The husband had trouble but finally got the hang of it. I only went to the top of t... Tue, 19 Jan 2016 09:26:58 EST Day 5 Finally, day 5. I can't believe I made it, well soon I'll make it. You know, after today is over. I think that was a good run of a very restrictive diet to curb my not-so-healthy cravings, mainly sugar. AND I feel pretty dang good. I know Spark encourages slow changes over time but that's never worked for me. I would keep hanging on to that one type of food (starchy/sugary) and want more. I get even a little stressed, BAM, I'm eating even more of that food.

BUT!

One day... Mon, 18 Jan 2016 08:58:40 EST Day 4 Don't worry. I won't be posting a "daily" blog of sorts. I just want to chronicle my first 5 days of this journey, then I'll mix it up. Still feeling good and not waking up hungry which is odd for me. That's not to say there are other times in the day where I'm not feeling more than peckish but the morning was always a given for me. I'm looking forward to this 2nd day of no responsibilities. Days o... Sun, 17 Jan 2016 09:03:46 EST Day 3 It's true Day 3 is easier. And this is my first duck egg, a gift from a friend. It was delicioso. 😍 Day 3 is also easier because I'm taking the day off. Not sure when that happened last but I'm relishing it. Every moment. To make it even better, I'm taking the whole dang weekend off. That's right. Feeding the soul with some down time, good food, fresh air, and family. Looking forward to a short hik... Feeling better than yesterday but it's early. I'm expecting to feel pretty good tomorrow. Movement today will be slow and controlled. Some sun salutations and some lower back exercises. My planned walk this morning was thwarted by a cold, hard rain. But I think it was well-timed...a mess... Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:43:11 EST sleep lab

This is me. Day 1. Again.

I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since I've REALLY checked in. At least, actively. And not just here at spark. Life in general. Auto pilot is not a good place to be.

It's been a stressful "almost 2 years" and I reached a breaking point. With the stress, I gained weight. So much so, that I now snore incessantly. It's so loud that I wake ... Thu, 14 Jan 2016 18:43:52 EST cat is finally out of the bag So, I've alluded to a lot lately. A lot of this and that, overtaking my life so to speak. In a good way. Always. Change is hard but it's usually for the best. The Walrus and I took a bit of leap recently. Well today, I can finally talk about it. I can also finally start paying attention to all areas of my life instead of living so utterly focused (on one thing) as I've been.

Our official announcement:

Announcement! The Walrus & I are new business owners!!

So a... Tue, 6 May 2014 14:11:18 EST checking in I'm still here. I had to drop out of the 5% challenge with all that's going on. I'm still exercising, still cognizant of the choices I'm making. Checking in and typing what I'm doing just seemed to be too much, if that makes sense. It's such a small thing to post to a board but at the same time it was a big relief to give it up...just one less thing to do...for the time being. I'm hoping to get myself together by the summer challenge.

Meanwhile, I'm reading our book club's selecti... Tue, 29 Apr 2014 09:30:56 EST trying not to toss my cookies I have so much going on right now. I don't think I've ever been this overwhelmed or pulled in so many different directions. BUT, it's all good. We're working super hard to take our family and careers in a whole new direction. I can't wait to share the details! Hopefully, by May.

In the meantime, I previously mentioned how I love stepups because I feel an immediate difference from doing them. I feel stronger functionally for walking, climbing, and hiking . The problem? I get so naus... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 11:14:57 EST it's not a tumaa (in my best schwarzenegger imitation) So it's not a tumor and it's not even torn. This pain in my shoulder that's been going on a year now, is just inflamed. Still utterly painful to the point that I can't put a bra on like a normal person. There's pain, yelling, awkward maneuvering going on in the closet in the mornings around here. At night? It's even worse...more awkward and louder.

I already forgot the term for the diagnosis but it has something to do with not having enough synovial fluid in my shoulder joint affe... Thu, 3 Apr 2014 13:48:29 EST you've got this Loving that message atop of my start screen: You've got this! Indeed.

It's been a very fun, productive Spring Break.

We started off the week with some roller skating. I've been on a skating kick lately and it's quite the deal on Sundays. Good thing sonny boy likes it too. He's getting quite good at it in spite of losing a permanent tooth on his first skating trip a little over a year ago.

<... Fri, 28 Mar 2014 09:04:01 EST clean What does 2 days of cleaner eating get me? A better attitude, a better mood, a lighter overall feeling, and an overall better sense of well being.

And notice I said *cleaner.*

As in, not completely clean but I'm paying attention. It started with my quarterly physician visit Monday. "Pom," she says (I love how she pronounces my name and soothes me the way she gently tells me to get with the program), "Pom, what are you eating for breakfast?" As we go through my typical d... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 11:01:35 EST recapping and mapping It's been crazy, busy. I mean if running around like a maniac counted as exercise, I'm #1 on the leader board. Unfortunately the "maniac part," means I was stressed which means cortisol production. Ugh.

I organized a talent show and live baked goods auction...which doesn't sound so bad... but think about the deadlines that nobody cared about and the calls I got up until the night (and an hour) before the show and you can imagine how stressed I got. Programs people! Trying to organ... Tue, 18 Mar 2014 09:36:50 EST daffodils! Every year since I've moved here, I've promised myself that I would see the daffodil field in bloom. I've come close but never in full bloom. This year, I put my wish on FB and lo' and behold my friend Brittney took me (seeing as how I couldn't quite remember the last turn on the back road to get there, I needed somebody who did know the way). I think I'll make another wish be known tomorrow and see what happens! lol.

Anywho, B is the park's naturalist. I LOVE hiking with her (she'... Wed, 12 Mar 2014 21:51:56 EST 15 minutes of fame...maybe OMGosh, today was so fun and it's not even over yet because tonight I get to go to book club. I'm bringing marinated hibiscus flowers stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Yum. Squeee. But so far? The Walrus and I were picked to have a "before meal" at Big Jim's Bama-Que before Restaurant Impossible came in.

I told Wonder Boy I'm going to be like Spongebob when his elbow shows up on the Krabby Patty commercial at 3 am. I had 2 friends graduate nursing school last year and let them choose the yarn, project, and pattern for their graduation gifts. I'm happy to announce they're finally completed, delivered and looking good. I'm so proud of these two ladies for their accomplishments. They both have children to take care of and still managed to go back to school for a dream and a different life. Both of these beautiful ladies are so inspiring.

26 26 ... Tue, 4 Mar 2014 12:21:17 EST 2 blogs in one day? Ok, not really my blog. I just had to share something I read today from a favorite blog that I read regularly.

A bit of FitBit hilarity.

-sense-of-moderation/

BaH! Wed, 26 Feb 2014 09:49:58 EST momentum vs. recuperation So as I mentioned earlier, I took 2 trips in a row that afforded me at least 20,000 steps a day. It was a good kick in the butt to keep the momentum when I returned home. And I did. But today I need a bit of recoup time.

We had a drastic change in weather from yesterday to day (as in warm to very cold). Since it was so cold this morning, my trainer asked if we should skip. I was already dressed and would normally say let's just do it. But my feet were not so cooperative.
<B... Very little. Vlogs are a lot of work so I won't spend too much time here. Plus, I complain a little at the beginning (about weight gain) and promised myself that was the last time I would allow myself to complain. It's time to move on... Tue, 25 Feb 2014 09:08:22 EST holy moly, i can hardly believe it myself The one where I break my 'steps in one day' record.

Whoa, momma. :-)

I had a very challenging but fun and rewarding weekend. I thought it was a good time to attempt 300 flights of stairs in one previous record being 200 flights. I made a valiant effort but came up short. By... Fri, 21 Feb 2014 10:57:31 EST altimeter personal record attempt...part 1 I've been traveling a bit lately and decided to attempt my previous record of 200 flights of stairs (achieved on a long hike in Cloudland State Park) in one day by attempting 300 flights of stairs in one day. Here, I present part 1 of the video log for this adventure. Wed, 19 Feb 2014 13:56:51 EST wth... It was another long night with a doggie, this time Shine. A few weeks ago, Holly (14 yo) lost control of her bodily functions, balance, and use of her legs. It was so bad we thought she had a stroke. We never found out for sure what was wrong. The vet treated her for an inner ear infection and possible bacterial intrusion. She was fine within a week's time.

Last night was major deja vu but with Shine ( about 5 yo). It started on her walk. Her back legs kept giving out. She lost co... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 12:11:04 EST i hope this is it!!! If these shoes work out, I'm buying 5 of them!!! The forecast was quite off by about 7 or 8 hours. We only got 10 minutes' notice that the schools were closing and several got stranded at the schools trying to pick their kids up. We knew the weather was coming but we all thought we could get through our work and school day. This community is awesome though. The sheriff's department worked perilously to drive families home as well as people with 4 wheel drive. Although I was able to get ... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 11:23:08 EST urban hike So, I took myself on a group urban 10 mile hike in Chattanooga Saturday. It was cold, cold, cold and sleety. And I was a big ol' cranky-puss. I set my alarm for 5:45 pm instead of a.m. so when I woke up at 6:30 thinking, "my, the sun sure is coming up early this alarm hasn't gone off yet," I bolted. Got myself out the door in 10 minute's time. I should've gone back to bed. My mood did not improve. I was achy, crampy, and I could not get the stitch out of my side. Well, that's not... Some friends of ours have been inviting Wonder Boy and other kids to learn about rock climbing. Wonder Boy has been rock climbing since he was 4. SO, it's nice that he's actually learning HOW, along with his natural ability. You know, with safety and all. Because although little man can usually scale a high rock successfully, he doesn't always have a plan to get down.

So anyway, the boy learned some s... Fri, 17 Jan 2014 12:36:52 EST on a roll On a roll...or at least trying to work off that roll. Yesterday I got my 2000 mile badge and later that day I got my UFO badge. I've climbed 14,000 flights of stairs.

It's been so long since I've received a badge and now I'm getting a bunch at once. Which means it will be a long while again. I got my 2000 mile badge this morning. I thought I had a few hundred miles left but I was wrong. I love being wrong. Well, sometimes.

I had another lovely, albeit shorter hike this morning. I think I'm still set for 10,000 steps today. It was a beautiful but soggy, muddy morning. I have to admit that last week I was less appreciative of the winter when it was 1º. That was tough. I think most of us southerners prefer our winters not to dip below the 30s. Very thankful it didn't get as cold as it did up North. I might have just hunkered under several layers of comforters and hibernated.

The bitter cold only lasted 2 days and although my love didn't waver, I was very thankful for the return of 'regular' winter around here. I thought it would be around 45,000 but at dinner I looked at my fitbit and I had like 48,800 so I knew I had to go for it. I was already extremely tired, achy, and cold but I had to do it. So, we took a lap around the shopping center where we ate. I took the the long way around when I stopped for a potty break on the way home. And finally, I had a little bit left when I got home so I took one doggie for a short walk. I over shot it a littl... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 09:25:19 EST it's coming. tomorrow! It's time to hit the 2nd section of our section hike on the SIlver Comet Trail. My friend and I are walking from Hiram to Braswell. Last time (right after Thanksgiving) we walked from Smyrna to Hiram. Tomorrow will put us a little over half way to the end of the whole trail which is about 61 miles. BUT, it's only a third of the trail that continues into Alabama. After the state line, the Silver Comet Trail changes to the Chief Ladiga Trail which adds about 33 miles more. We should be able to ... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 21:08:11 EST whipping up It's been a fun holiday break for us all. Although I'm still working quite a bit, I have taken a day off here and there and it still feels like a big break not having to run the boy all over kingdom come. An added bonus, my car's been out of commission for almost a week now (waiting on a part, hopefully it comes tomorrow!). It's all good though. Taking life at a slower pace is much welcomed.

SheilaV kicked my derriere as per usual this morning. My legs were jello the last .25 miles... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 13:56:45 EST yes sir, yes sir 3 skeins full As I mentioned in my previous blog, I would be making wool dryer balls this past weekend. Don't be jealous, my weekend was that good. I had this leftover yarn from an abandoned felted Easter basket I was going to make. The yarn was relatively inexpensive and since I bought it several years ago, it seemed like it was free! I never did like the colors. Back when I was going to do this project, I didn't really know where to buy good wool yarn. The stores (ok store, as in 1) around here only sell... I still have 2 hats to make for friends who recently graduated nursing school. Hopefully their yarn arrives... Mon, 9 Dec 2013 14:32:46 EST what a bargain (that almost wasn't) I've been putting off buying some new runners for awhile. This is one of the few times in my life my procrastination paid off. I wrote awhile back that I was going to be purchasing these runners. Well, they've been sitting in my amazon cart forever. Today, Zulilly offered them for more than HALF off. I know, right? Since I just noticed a hole in my runners last night, it's high time for a new pair. Way passed time, in fact.

Then as I was checking out, I noticed my total was like $...
