I have a new Spark friend who asked me about tracking food on Spark. I took some photos with my iPad of how to search for a food you have eaten that is not already in your Favorites and then how to put it in your Favorites. I have learned that the speedier way of tracking food is to have those frequently eaten foods in your Favorites.

In the above photo, I wanted to find the calories in sautéed yellow squash, so... Tue, 2 Sep 2014 16:44:50 EST I got a very BAD case of... I really wanted some cereal today for a midday snack. So I measured 1 serving of Frosted Mini Wheats which is 3/4 cup. Here's what I got.

SHOCKER! I am sure I easily do double that, but only track it on Spark as 1 serving. Cereal as well as popcorn are 2 of my "Lucy Goosy" foods when it comes to portion.

I GUESS YOU COULD SAY THAT I AM DESPERATELY TRYING TO GET OVER A VERY BAD CASE OF........ Thu, 28 Aug 2014 16:20:02 EST Just Peachy

Yesterday evening I was making choices about what I wanted to eat keeping in mind my calories remaining. For me, I prepare dinner at lunch and then eat lighter later in the evening. Most of the time, this works. However, I have to stay on top of my tracking throughout the day, to know how much I can eat.

I had become "Lucy Goosy" with certain foods. Popcorn is one of those foods. So, I found out sp... Wed, 27 Aug 2014 10:23:21 EST Hello, Mr. Carrot!

Yesterday, was my official "I'm back in the saddle and riding into the sunset" day. All went well until the evening....around 7pm. I really wanted some popcorn with a slice of cheese melted on top. I looked at my tracker and realized I did not have enough calories left.

Then.... 189 ......I could have some raw carrots! And I did which kept me easily within my Spark calorie range. <e... Tue, 26 Aug 2014 09:25:45 EST Help Me

Do you ever feel like a "broken record"?! This summer has actually been filled with wonderful memories and special events. Unfortunately, I have completely ignored my good, healthy habits and the weight that I lost climbed back on with a few extra pounds as well. I have been so convicted about my poor health choices. Today, I gave my Spark Page a Fall Face Lift and I am RE-FOCUSSED in my words about beginnin... Then, one day she got up and stayed up. Her excellent habits of tracking foo... Thu, 7 Aug 2014 13:40:04 EST Drywall & Wisdom Teeth

This is my first blog post for July. The summer is flying by!

My daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted this past Monday, so both of us have had cabin fever. And now that my cutie is doing better from her surgery, the house is torn apart and covered with sheets and tarps as my hubby sands our new kitchen wall. All this instability is a great excuse to overeat and I did. Now I did get in my swim... Sat, 12 Jul 2014 20:27:06 EST Delay Tactic!!
244 I read this idea from a fellow Sparker and I decided to TAKE ACTION and do it! 334 My most difficult time of wanting to eat when I do not need to eat is in the evenings usually while watching tv with my family. So, what I will say tonight and in future evenings is "Janine, set your cell phone for 10 minutes. If you still want to get the popcorn, then you can eat it." I will fill my Spar... Mon, 23 Jun 2014 19:32:08 EST STRAWBERRY PICKIN' : D

I picked 6 quarts of strawberries at a local field near my house on Friday. The day was sunny with a gentle breeze and blue skies. I walked along the patches of green plants looking for bright red treasures. I found them! So I got home and cut off the stems, gave them a nice bath and put them on display. I just HAD to share my treasures with my Spark family.

These are truly some of the sweetest str... Mon, 9 Jun 2014 08:59:30 EST Winning at Weeding
It never ceases to amaze me how weeds grow every season in the most difficult of situations: concrete and a very small slit with a teensy spot of soil and BAM! a weed begins to grow. If I'm not on that weed soon, it takes off in growth and the stalk becomes so thick and the roots so deep that all I can do is chop it down, but then the roots are still there. So yesterday, I used a shovel to chop down countless milk wee... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 23:09:03 EST My Spark Calendar
Accountability and encouragement; two things that I desperately need. So here is my Spark calendar thus far for May. At first, my goal was to track the food eaten everyday. As you see, I did not always meet this goal. THEN, I hunkered down to zero in on my calorie range. I am striving for between 1600 to 1750 calories per day. Spark had my high end much higher, but I really believe that for my body, I need to stick ... Thu, 29 May 2014 15:57:22 EST Motivated or Pressured to Lose Weight I know so many people who buckle down and drop 20 pounds because of a "big event". I am traveling to see my best friend on June 12th. We haven't seen each other except Facebook in probably 10 years. I had all these great ideas of losing 20 pounds before my visit, but so far it's about 5 pounds. I actually do not do well in these situations. For me to stay focused and live my life in a healthy way, I tend to be home in a routine and the pounds gradually come off. The other factor is that ... I know that an infusion of more freggies will really help me. What's amazing is that the spaghetti squash was REALLY... Sat, 3 May 2014 19:32:41 EST Day 21 and Still Kicking
This is my 21st day of forming a good habit. My habit is being a mindful eater. The measurable way for me to establish this good habit is to track my food daily on Spark. I wish I could say in this moment that my weight has plummeted and this whole healthy life style thing is a breeze, but THAT would be a lie. HOWEVER, I have dropped some weight...then came Aunt Flow who is so unkind in the weight loss department. ... Fri, 14 Mar 2014 23:00:07 EST Doing Right But the Scale Seems Broken Good morning Sparklers! 213
I have gone 6 consecutive days and counting of tracking my food and staying within my calorie range with this past Friday being the only day that I went over. I feel really great and know that this habit is crucial to shedding the excess, but I sure would love to see even a slight move for the better on the scale. Thu, 6 Mar 2014 09:50:46 EST #2 Working on the Roots You know the story about Charlie Brown and his Christmas tree? 378 I remember the scene where he put one ornament on the tree and it bent over with the weight of just one ornament.

Then, I heard another story recently about a man who wanted his life to affect millions of people in a great way. He told God about his desire to be like a mighty tree that was brimming with fruit and was a source of safety for the birds and other creatures. This tree represented his lif... Sat, 1 Mar 2014 20:58:13 EST #1 Look into the Mirror 213 First, let me say "Hello Sparkers!" It seems there is a correlation between me posting on my blog and success with health and weight loss. SO, my challenge to myself is to post for the next 30 days and really see some results in all parts of me. 224

I heard a great teaching about how we cannot see change on the outside of us, UNTIL we make changes in our thinking. I did weigh-in and found that I was down 1 pound from the middle of December. 224
Today I weighed my almonds and I counted my chips making sure my portions were correct. I did 25 bicycle crunches to work on my abs and I made some homemade chicken soup with lots and lots of carrots. 210 Yum!
I really only ate 2 meals today, so I did eat a small amount of food kind of late for dinner. Mon, 28 Oct 2013 21:44:47 EST Little Changes = Big Benefits 198 I was wearing my Fitbit everyday, but since the 5% Fall Challenge I purposely get out and walk for at least 30 minutes in addition to the rest of my daily activities. I had upped my Fitbit goal to 8000 steps and it could not be achieved for me without that walk. Sat, 26 Oct 2013 22:56:11 EST Weigh in Day Approaches! The first week of the 5% Fall Challenge is nearly complete. How did I do? My activity is definately up, BUT some days I overrate based on my tracking on Spark. One thing I must do regardless of food consumption is TRACK! 101 It is the ONLY way I succeed at weight loss and maintaining that loss. I need to strength train too. I did it once and I overdid it and hurt for 5 straight days. So...I will select another Spark video and do it AGAIN today. Does anyone recommend a strength... Thu, 17 Oct 2013 09:57:01 EST Inspired by my Cat Buddy I woke up this morning feeling very, very lumpy. My coffee was calling but I thought about my Spark Cat Buddy, DebbieDay and how yesterday she said she got up early and walked before she had a chance to change her mind. SO...I did the same thing today and I woke up on my walk without coffee! (A definite miracle!) The additional great news is because of those 39 minutes of steps, I will reach my Fitbit goal of 8000 steps for today. Isn't it great having Spark buddies to inspire us in this da... Tue, 15 Oct 2013 11:35:36 EST My Rainy Walk Victory! This week has been a wet one, but I have made the decision to get back into a daily walk wearing my Fitbit. So on Monday, I ventured out with my cell phone and an umbrella…the weather is sunny…cloudy…sunny…cloudy…so I figured I had a fairly good chance at getting in some exercise before the rain began to fall. One thing I do when I walk is to call a very close friend of mine. She has time in the morning to talk. So I talk to her and walk and time flies. It’s as though I have a walking bu... The weekend was wonderful. We had a picnic on Saturday and pictures were taken and posted on Facebook. Evidently there are different ways to tread water. I hadn’t considered this because I found something that works for me, so I figured everyone else had the same technique. I have been trying the “egg beater” form of treading water, but in truth extending my legs like I’m leaping in the water and then quickly closing th... The good news is that both my mom and my mom-in-law are recovering nicely from back surgeries.
