That means that I am busting butt right now trying to get everything ready and work done before I go. I want the house spotless (not likely with Rich home all day every day). I am trying to get as much done for work as possible including my report for the grant. I need to finish packing and prep the house for the remodel.

I am also trying to get into the groove with my Determined Daisies, and think that I am getting there.

Be... Doing my daily maintenance weigh-in and seeing that my diet and exercise tweaks are keeping me where I want to be.

Maintenance does not mean that "you are done" with dieting. It means that you are in your comfort zone with weight. It means constant vigilance, but with the comforting fact that you are on top of the ball. It means controlling the body instead of letting it control you.

My actual goal weight is 160# but my maintenance range is 10# (150-160). I prefer to st... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 09:55:18 EST There is a lot to be said for routine Today was the first day back to the 5% challenge and the 1st day back in full swing. My calorie range and food choices were better than they have been for a week. My weigh-in was solidly I the center of my goal range. Life is good as I look at the next 4 weeks before my trip home to Michigan! Sat, 5 Apr 2014 22:36:39 EST It's been more than a week! I haven't gone this long without blogging in almost 2 years! First I had a computer crash. Now my wifi is not working at the office. We had a big event that I was working on last weekend and we are getting ready for vacation, which means cleaning the house, packing and booking travel arrangements. I am trying to get my dental work done before I lose dental insurance on June 1st and Rich is having his follow-up appointments from his surgery. In short, I am glad to be back!

Now, I ha... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 11:52:16 EST MIA

Whew! Wed, 19 Mar 2014 11:50:11 EST Exciting news!! Many of you know that I use the Nexercise app to earn points through exercise for buying more videos to exercise, too. They are having a March madness competition and asked for people to submit pics and a twitter length statement about what motivates them for entry for the selection process for the contest. I was one of the 64 people chosen as a finalist. Here is the scoop from the Nexercise blog.

-nexercise-march-madness-challenge/ </... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 12:14:36 EST Movie Night Once each month we have movie night at church. Tonight's movie is 'Jungle Book'. I love this movie! It is the original 1960s version. On movie night, they serve hotdogs and popcorn, chips, chili, etc. I never eat it because it starts at 6pm and I don't eat after 6p, but it sure smells good!

I had my usual egg & 100 cal English Muffin for breakfast then a heavenly huge rib eye steak for dinner.

Breakfast and lunch is packed for tomorrow. This week is just whipping past me. My schedule has been all over the place and my routine has been out the window, but I have been productive, both personally and professionally.

Maybe next week I can focus on Sparking, but until then, know that I am thinking of y'all! Thu, 13 Mar 2014 23:35:23 EST Why should we lose weight?

Ok, then! That is pretty graphic, isn't it? It sure got my attention! There are 18 negative effects listed on that picture. Of those, I experienced 8 of them. Granted, that is not as many as some people, but joint pain, social stigmas and lack of employment (lost elections, in my case) are not fun!

There are many health reasons to lose weight, all the converse of those listed. Fri, 7 Mar 2014 10:01:56 EST Day to of maintenance adjustment Went much better today than yesterday when I was STARVING when I went to bed. Today I feel great, though I was actually over on fiber. Weird!

Today was crazy as I worked out, then went to work, then took dh to the surgeon to have the sutures removed. His arm was still too swollen to have the full cast put on, so that will be done on the 20th. To those who asked, he had a bone graft, fusion, plate & screws and a carpal Tunnel release of his dominant hand.

Fusion site- <BR... Thu, 6 Mar 2014 22:57:40 EST Re-evaluating

I am up 5# from my lowest weight. Mind you, I am still in maintenance range, but seriously. FIVE POUNDS? How? Well, I thought I was, but perhaps I am letting a bite here and a bite there get the better of me. I found a delic... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 15:24:33 EST So frustrated! Our internet has been so wonky for the past 5 days, that I can't even use it at night and get my Spark obligations taken care of.

Living in a small valley between 2 mountain ranges means that internet service is very limited. I *might* have 2 or 3 choices. Maybe. I have found 3 to call, but they don't necessarily have service in our valley.

I was back to the gym today for my regular workout.... Mon, 3 Mar 2014 14:10:00 EST If only the intent counted.... I was excited! Rich was going to the men's breakfast at church, so Molly and I went to the Y to work out. I wasn't even on the treadmill for half an hour before he called to be picked up. He was nauseated and weak. Sigh.....

When we got home, I cleaned out every drawer in the bedroom, getting rid of clothes that no longer fit or that I don't wear. 2 more garbage bags going to Salvation Army on Monday!

Rich asked his daughter, Angie, to come sit with him Monday through W... Sat, 1 Mar 2014 22:39:11 EST Gym time! And I am going back tomorrow! Rich is well enough to stay by himself for a couple of hours at a time now. He still can't cook, cut anything, type or use his right hand in any way, but he can get up and go to the bathroom by himself without falling.

We were without internet for 24 hours which put me way behind. I am trying to play catch up.

Heard from my mom today. Her mother, who will be 103 in August, is failing. She is in the hospital right now after a serious UTI and... Fri, 28 Feb 2014 22:39:01 EST So tired! My sleep last night can be counted by minutes rather than hours. Rich was restless and refused to just sleep, meaning I was awake for all but about 45 minutes all night. He did manage to get discharged today, so we got home late this afternoon.

Being tired, I actually overate (a conscious decision, I am ashamed to say) for the first time in going on 2 years. *shrugs* Such is life. Move on... I will try to work out tomorrow depending on if I get any sleep tonight and how Rich does t... Wed, 26 Feb 2014 21:46:27 EST Rich's surgery

Was up at 5am for a 6am departure for the hospital for Rich's surgery. They removed the bone ends in his wrist that were causing the pain and used them for the bone graft. Then a plate and screws was implanted before the carpal tunnel release.

They used an axillary block and light sedation, but I guess he talked all the way through the surgery.

He is doing VERY well and will be discharged bef... Tue, 25 Feb 2014 21:28:53 EST Um..about forcing myself to eat freggies... In the Intro forum today, a new member admitted to being a picky eater and not wanted to hear "suck it up". I replied to her post and decided that my reply needed to be made public. You see, I agree with her. This is who I am and at 56 I am not going to change it and am not interested in trying.....

... I am very picky, detest veggies and eat few on them. Eating out every day for the past week or so! Sure am tired of it!

Yesterday we went to Rich's pre-op appointment. He has to be at the hospital at 8am on Tuesday for 10am surgery. He will be spending the night. They have a bed so that 1 family member can stay, which helps because it is an hour and a half from home.

I am also planning a trip for the 2 of us back to Michigan to see family in May. I believe that we have decided on traveling by train. Should be fun! I... Tue, 18 Feb 2014 23:13:32 EST She got it! Ok, so it wasn't lime green, but it is darling! She would never have specifically looked for this color, but said that it wasn't worth $2000 to get a green one. When she saw this in person, she fell in love with it! The green Spark that she looked at yesterday was $14995 and the dealer would not budge on price.

And this little girl did mumma proud! She told the salesman what she was willing to pay. He said he couldn't go that low, so she said, "thanks anyway! I have a truck that I ... Sun, 16 Feb 2014 21:53:19 EST Decisions, decisions Today Molly wanted to hang out with Dad and Mom. She is feeling a little down. Rich told her to take Angie and we would meet at the pet thrift store for their sales today. On the way down there, he told me to get Molly aside and tell her to take Angie home so that we could spend the afternoon together.

We proceeded to go car hunting for her. Rich decided that we would by her a new car of her choosing. We looked at a couple and she made her choice..... she thinks. The local dealers... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 23:27:47 EST Happy Valentine's Day! Today, I thought that I would post about my new 'natural' way of eating. Let's call it,

"Eating Like a Skinny Person"

The food part is the easiest! Just 'eat like a skinny person'. Have you every watched a skinny person eat, especially at a buffet? That is my favorite place to eat when I am trying to lose weight!

It goes like this:
Look at all the food. Wander around and see what really looks good. It helps if you have an idea ... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 01:02:02 EST Flu? or Food poisoning? Monday afternoon I had a lunch meeting and ate a large salad. Other than that, I ate my own food for the rest of the day.

As you know, on Tuesday I had to cut my workout short due to shakiness and, presumably, low blood sugar.

I was really tired last night and was in bed by 9pm. I woke up at 1am having to go to the bathroom and jumped up to rush in there. I almost passed out. Then the vomiting started. No nausea, just vomiting. It was like when I had H1N1, except no fe... Wed, 12 Feb 2014 19:08:57 EST *sad face* I only got 35 minutes in at the gym this am because my blood sugar was dropping. I couldn't keep working out without my performance suffering, so I headed to the office and ate breakfast. I still managed to get in over 10,000 steps today by picking up elsewhere.

I have at least 1 meal per day out for the rest of this week. I have perused the menus and made my choices already.

Got the 'new' washer hooked up this evening after work, so I can catch up on laundry again. ... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 19:46:47 EST "ME" time and feeling pleased As my regular readers know, love my exercise time, which is my "me" time. Today I walked on the treadmill (6% grade at 3mph) while watching an episode of my TV show, then part of another one. The treadmill faces a window, but since it was dark, the mirror finish made it like looking into a mirror for an hour.

When I started the Y in late summer 2012, I was about the largest person in the gym. As I looked around today, I realized that I am one of the smallest.

<img src... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 12:11:35 EST What is maintainance?

Easy question, right? I mean, everybody KNOWS that maintenance means 'staying the same weight'.

#1 RULE- Maintenance is not a number, but a range. It is physically impossible to stay at exactly the same weight day in and day out. Weights fluctuate. Perhaps you ate more sodium or your body reacted to a different food. Maybe... Sun, 9 Feb 2014 23:38:16 EST Too much! Rich and I went to dinner at Shari's tonight. We had just started eating when a waitress started going from table to table to see if anyone had a BCLS card. I thought it was odd, then heard, "a man is down". I jumped up from the table and ran to assist.

We performed CPR until the fire department and EMTs arrived, but was unsuccessful. He was in V-fib when they arrived....

The worst part is that he was alone.... This man was alone. During the resuscitation efforts, I t... Sat, 8 Feb 2014 22:39:22 EST Changing Habits

It's funny how subtle changes happen and we don't really notice it.

When I started Sparkpeople in August 2012, I weighed nearly 300#. I barely had the energy to walk to the bathroom and my knees hurt so bad, I could hardly walk and any stairs was really scary because I was afraid that my knees would give out.

I ate. A lot. Massive amounts. Frequently. Wake up in the middle of the night? Grab... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 20:40:33 EST I love Mondays! I got on that elliptical trainer today and watched an episode of Royal Pains on my IPod Touch while playing games on my tablet. When the first episode was over, I started another one. I didn't want to quit my workout this am! I love these days!!!

After the gym I went to work and had a productive day. My weekend expense report is done, I gave a report to our nurse navigator and I uploaded about 1/4-1/3 of my pictures to Google Plus for a backup. It cost me $429 for the dead hard dri... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 19:47:26 EST Back home! I did not get a good workout in today, though I was on my feet for hours at the healthfair today. We had over 800 people come through the doors. 244 I met my contact goal for the year in a single event! I practically wiped out my literature. Luckily, different people get different pieces because of different needs.

My program does not provide PSAs and screenings, but is an education program. My job is to "Educate men and those who love them of the importance of approp... Sat, 1 Feb 2014 23:01:26 EST Short note Rich will have surgery on his wrist, I will schedule it on Monday. The doctor will fuse the wrist and do a carpal tunnel release.

I am at the hotel. Gorgeous suite! The fitness room is awesome, too, with private TVs on each machine. I ended up doing over an hour on the treadmill because I was wanted to finish my show!

We ate out, but bought food for tomorrow so I will pack a lunch for the health fair.

Now I am off to a hot tub. Later, friends! Fri, 31 Jan 2014 21:39:46 EST Ready to head out This weekend I have a health fair to work in Medford, 1-1/2 to 2 hours from here. Because I was going to have to be there both Friday for set-up and Saturday for the fair, I booked a hotel down there for Friday night. I ended up getting a 1 bedroom suite (not a studio) at a Hilton for only $125! There is a fitness room (which is a must, or I won't stay) and it even includes a full breakfast. We have a fully equipped kitchen, so I can fix my own healthy meals tomorrow for lunch and dinner, plu... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 18:13:51 EST Group meetings I have had quite a few people ask me what my support group meetings are. I am the program manager for men's health, particularly prostate cancer.

It has driven me crazy for years that all focus is on 'women and children' and that men are treated like serfs or 2nd class citizens. This is no clearer than in the matter of healthcare. Cancer, specifically, incites homicidal tendencies in me when I learn, for example, that the American Cancer Society will no longer support prostate ca... Wed, 29 Jan 2014 19:24:38 EST Really? What a jerk! Unbelievable!

Molly and I decided to go to the gym and play racquetball because it was raining this am. Then she gets a phone call that her divorce papers were ready for pick up. They told her that they only call one party, though, so she will have to contact her ex-husband.

We head over to the courthouse before going to the gym and walk in to find the jerk there with his arm around hi... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 15:57:06 EST That moment when... If this was a Facebook status, it would read, "That moment when you skip out of work early to run to the store and come face-to-face with your supervisor who was supposed to be working at home". Oops!

It was gym day today. As long as it doesn't rain tomorrow, Molly (and hopefully, Rich) and I will walk before I go into work. I am not going in until well afternoon tomorrow because I have a meeting tomorrow night that means I won't get home until about 9:30. Yesterday, Rich walked t... Mon, 27 Jan 2014 18:37:25 EST Super Sunday! What a great day! After Bible study and church today, I came home and had my delicious steak with cole slaw for lunch.

My happy room is much happier, though not yet ecstatic. 211 It is about 30% complete. While I was working on it, Molly called to see if I wanted to walk. It was a gorgeous warm and sunny day today so I jumped at the chance.

We walked abut 5 miles, but as the sun went behind the mountains it got a little cold.
