FIT2BEHEALTHY's SparkPeople Blog FIT2BEHEALTHY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day 3 of my 5 pounds in 3 weeks challenge. 3 miles of interval training (walk/jog/walk/jog to raise & lower the heart rate) this afternoon and then jumped in the workout room and pushed play on Chalene Extreme's Extreme Core Circuit. There's a serious amount of ab work tucked into those 12 minutes! LOL And, I even ate healthy all day (Shakeology for breakfast, banana/peanut butter wrap for lunch), ending the day with a grilled porkchop, zucchini, and snap peas (all of those leftovers - love easy, easy, easy leftover meals!).
<B... Thu, 25 Jul 2013 22:42:29 EST Day 2 of my 5 pounds in 3 weeks challenge. As promised, to myself if no one else, I got in and did an hour of strength training via Les Mills Pump. I stayed at the same weight load on all of the exercises except the chest press. I actually went down 2.5 pounds on each side of the barbell. Doesn't seem like much, but when you're doing it for 5 minutes straight, those 2.5 pounds add up. I lowered that weight because I was still feeling the upperbody part of the Combat workout from yesterday. I'm pumped (no pun intended!) and excited abo... Thu, 25 Jul 2013 01:20:10 EST 3 weeks - 5 pounds Ok, I'm putting this out here. My cousin's daughter is getting married in 3 weeks. I don't normally "event" diet or train. I'd rather just "train to be healthy" and keep that constant focus - always looking at the big picture instead of the short-sighted view. But, the truth is, with my neck injury earlier this spring and everything that has gone on in my family's life in the last 5 months (anyone who knows me personally, knows what all that has been), I lost focus, wasn't able to physically ... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 04:26:51 EST Down, Doggie, Down! I have NEVER had a stretch feel sooooo good and hurt sooooo much at the same time! I guess I thought I had to do it all tonight. I did Les Mills Pump 55 minute Revolution (strength training) first. And I, of course, in all my wisdom, made the decision to NOT lower my weights, but do it at the same level of intensity I had been doing it when I quit, well over a month ago.

Next bright decision... since the girls weren't home yet, basketball was on the tv for DS, and DH had fallen as... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 03:06:43 EST Combat Shock Plyo HIIT - Should have been warned! LOL Ok, I guess I should have known. There shouldn't have been any surprise, really. But, I'm obviously naive. Or, I've become so complacent in my physical fitness ability with Turbo Fire, that I thought I could handle anything Combat threw at me. Wow, I was wrong!

I'm not all that sure what I expected from a workout called "Shock Plyo HIIT", but I really should have been forewarned by the name! I mean, really? Got my workout done this morning (Turbo Fire 55 EZ) and you can NOT believe how good that felt! Forget the weightloss for a moment, our bodies were designed to MOVE. Just think of all the joints, muscles, and cushioning that we were made with, in preparation for us to be ACTIVE! These last couple of weeks, I've been anything BUT! I was starting to feel sooooo stiff and achy. Much better now. Go push play, people! Your body will thank you for it!

216

Laurie Fri, 28 Dec 2012 01:48:03 EST Disbelief & Being Melancholy I'm being a little melancholy tonight. We have a local facebook page for buying and selling items and I have had it in the back of my mind to get a few things ready, pictures taken, prices set, etc to list on that page. So tonight I went down stairs to pull out of storage bins some old clothes that no longer fit. I knew what they were, but I didn't realize the emotions they would bring up to the surface. They've been in storage for 3 years, ever since I lost the majority of my weight. When I ... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 01:33:53 EST Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.... Yes, I learned a lesson in perseverance from a cartoon movie character. Remember Dory, the little fishy with the "never say die" attitude?

I wanted a nice little 11 - 12 mile jog Sunday as I have exactly 2 weeks until my first 1/2 marathon and I really needed to up my speed and try to make those 13.1 miles in a timeframe that I've set for myself. Today was going to be a pretty good test run to that end. It was a little cooler out, but I run better when it's a little cooler, anyway,... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 02:19:51 EST I think I made a good choice today. The typical Sunday morning/noon at our house looks like this: Up, shower, shakeology, makeup and hair, church, then home for bacon and eggs for dinner. This time of year the afternoon normally involves a football game for a while, at least, and then by the late afternoon or early evening I like to take off for my weekly run. Normally I'll go for 5-10 miles. A lot of that is determined by how fast my lunch has settled and how I'm feeling. That's what brought about this blog.

4... Sun, 7 Oct 2012 15:35:04 EST Start Next Week Out Right - On The Weekend If you're like many (including myself!), you kind of forget about your fitness plan during the weekend. You think you can let it all go on the weekend and start that diet or exercise program over again on Monday. Or maybe your feel you deserve to live it up a little, right? But this weekend, I'm asking you to think about next week already this weekend. Go into the weekend with long term goals, not short term pleasures, in mind. Stay on track this weekend, so you don't feel like you're startin... Thu, 23 Aug 2012 15:29:49 EST 90% is better than 0% Yup, I learned something tonight - modification is key and something is better than nothing (but I still don't have to like it).

I don't know why, but I'm the type that just can't bring herself to modify most things. I find that I have the feeling that I'm not getting the full benefit out of the workout if I don't do the whole thing, at the highest intensity my fitness level will allow. Had been having problems build up with a few things and got them all taken care of at one time. But the big take-away this morning was with our clothes washing machine. I think he just saw me running and was making sure all was well. Either that, or he thought I was a criminal running from a crime scene! LOL

For those of you who know me on facebook, I p... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 01:14:49 EST Recognizing Priorities and Working With Them I have a cd series put out by Chalene Johnson (creator of Turbo Jam, Turbo Fire, and Turbo Kick) called Car Smart. While the girls slept on the way home from Rochester last weekend, I listened to the first cd - the first step to success. On that cd, she says that someone asked her what the very first step was. First she thought it was a to-do list. Then she thought it was setting goals. Then she realized it's neither. It's deciding what your priorities are. What's REALLY important to you? Is ... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 12:37:00 EST Are you really hungry, or is it something else? I had to ask myself that question this afternoon. I came into the living room this afternoon to see my husband and daughter sitting on the couch watching the Packers (yes, we're Cheese Heads! LOL) play against the Bears. They were sharing a little cheese and crackers as a snack. The power of suggestion was so strong that I immediately headed out to the kitchen to find me a snack, too. I got almost to the fridge and realized that I wasn't even hungry! In fact, when I stopped to really pay atte... Sun, 25 Sep 2011 21:48:54 EST Its Been A Monday All Week Long Mondays have a certain reputation, don’t they? They are typically full, busy, unpredictable, and many times exhausting. On those days, you’re lucky to get your “gotta-do” to-do lists done, much less your “wanna-do” to-do lists, right? And, if the truth be told, which list is your fitness plan on? Hmmm? Yeah, thought so.

Well, last week I had a Monday, pretty much every day of the week. Started out on Monday by visiting my husband’s aunt in the hospital and then running my daughter... Thu, 25 Aug 2011 02:42:14 EST Jumping Out of a Perfectly Good Airplane The old saying “Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane if it’s not crashing?” came to me one morning last month when my alarm clock went off at 4:30am. Then my thoughts went to, “Why am I getting out of my perfectly good bed, in the middle of the night, when there’s no fire in the house!” LOL

The reason I, through my blurry eyes, was fumbling to shut my alarm off and dragging my sorry tush out of that very comfortable bed, was because I had pre-paid my registration for a 5K run... Fri, 5 Aug 2011 12:55:58 EST Eat but don't chew. Hmmmm. Do you know how hard that is? To eat but not chew on anything (or much of anything, anyway). The last couple of days my top row of teeth havn't "fit in" with my lower set. They were misaligned. For the most part, you can live like that, until you go to open your mouth to put something in it - or to yawn. That was just nasty, not being able to yawn. Since the top & bottom were out of alignment, the "hinge" function of the jaw didn't work. So, I went to see my handy dandy chiropractor. He was ... Okay, so first off, it isn't really the poor lady's fault, but we did have quite a nice little chuckle over it.

Last week my husband and I celebrated our 26 year anniversary by going out to eat at one of our favorite restaurants in a town about 40 minutes away from home. I weighed in this morning at 162.6. That weight has a double meaning for me. I have lost 100 pounds from my highest weight about 8 years ago. Plus, I have lost 60 of those 100 here with Sparkpeople in the last 15 months!

While no one wants to be reminded of unpleasant things (and sometimes these pictures can be unpleasant), I just feel I have to commemorate this day by acknowledging to all of you, my sparkfriends, how special this is for me. I ran into a lady there who used to do physical therapy for our son at least 10 years ago. When she saw me, she exclaimed, "You haven't aged a day!"

That was probably one of the nicest compliments I've had in a while! I'm 45. That's the attitude I adopted today. Earlier today I was determined to get out and jog this afternoon, but after much delay, for one reason or another, it was after 5:00 before I actually hit the road. Now the road I'm talking about is the paved road in front of our farm (We're quite fortunate to live on a paved road, many people in the area are on gravel & I just couldn't run on that when the cars go by & plaster you with dust!) This road runs east & west. The easterly route is flat as a pan... Thu, 1 Apr 2010 02:55:20 EST Sometimes most of it's mental. I know that the "I've got to get off the couch & work out," attitude is mental. Sometimes it takes a while to talk ourselves into just getting moving. But the actual success of that workout also depends on where we are mentally. Like today. I finally got to my workout. Late. But I got it going finally. My head just wasn't in it. I was thinking about something else during most of it. Hard as I tried, I just couldn't get my HR up and keep it there - and it was Turbo Jam - I shouldn't have had a... Days like these are always great days, full of good times & memories, but....when you've been a mom of teenage girls for as long as I have, you just know that you need to let them get in the clothing store first, let them wade through all of the options, and then, maybe an hour later, you show up and have to sit through the fashion parade of... Mon, 22 Mar 2010 02:12:21 EST Today's 5K. Fun Run; Fun Day! It's turning into a family thang! Okay, I'm not a runner, so why do I keep ending up at 5Ks!?!? 211 Well, today's was different than the one I ran 2 weekends ago. This one was a true "Fun Run". There wasn't an official time keeper. There was no entry fee. We just showed up and decided if we would do a 5K, 7 mile, 10 mile, or 15K (I think those were the choices anyway). As a group, we all took off at the same time and then split off into our different routes depending on what we wanted to run.

Today was ... Sat, 20 Mar 2010 22:47:13 EST I did it! My 1st 5K under my belt! Well, I certainly wasn't planning on doing this. I only found out about it last Saturday when I finally went through the newspaper from the week before (news isn't high on my priority list most of the time! LOL) When I saw it, I had a little flicker of a light bulb go on, but it extinguished itself pretty fast. I mentioned it to my girls. I just did a practice run the other day and was fine. But because it's "official" and there will be other people there, it seems to take on a whole new worry of it's own for some reason. And the stupid thing is, I'm not even concerned about the time I complete it in. I just want to be able to say I finished it, even if I end up walking a lot of it. The kids loved it when they were growing up. I think one of the things that hits me hard about this story is that we don't have the "big picture" view of our lives. We only have the "little picture" view. We don't know what we're being prepared for. But no matter what it is, we have to be willing to go where we need to go & do what we need to do. Okay, like yesterday, I’m not sure what I was expecting. I didn’t preview this one. I went into it now knowing anything about it except just a couple of the moves that my daughter warned me about when she previewed it.
