FIRE-SPINNER's SparkPeople Blog FIRE-SPINNER's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Keep on Keepin' on So I have been out of sorts due to the fact my oldest/babysitter moved out. I have not been to the gym in a couple-few months. I'm feeling bad that I can't work out like I want to. So today I tried Tai-Chi. Just the basics, how to stand, posture, etc. Tomorrow I will actually do the full video. If that doesn't work, I am going for yoga. At least I will be doing something. Trying to figure out what to do with my child so I can go to the gym in the mornings. I just need to keep active! Fri, 6 Sep 2013 00:03:47 EST Quiet..... My child has been at camp since Sunday. About a month ago my older child moved out. So the house has been quiet, too quiet. I miss my kids. My older one doesn't call or visit and I miss her a lot. The little one is having a great time at Girl Scout camp. She will be coming home Saturday. I can't wait to squeeze her and hear all about camp. I haven't been pushing myself with my workouts, but have been walking instead of driving to places like the store. Hurry up Saturday! Thu, 25 Jul 2013 11:15:51 EST Soon...... Still not losing weight, but maintaining the weight I'm at now. At least I'm not gaining. I sure hope I can get back to the gym soon. My little one will be at camp in a week. I will spend that week at the gym. Every time I miss her I will head to the gym. Oooh that's a good idea! Sat, 13 Jul 2013 23:41:10 EST Day at the beach I took three kids to Goat Rock beach yesterday. We had a great time. My cousin's kid even declared it "The Best Day Ever". But when I got home and looked through the pictures, I was horrified! I look like a refrigerator with legs! I have lost some weight in the past couple of months, but not as much as I thought (looks-wise).I do not look the same in pictures as I do in the mirror. I know that I do not see what my body really looks like, it has always been that way. I don't feel like the pers... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 15:03:13 EST No sitter = No gym So my oldest moved out this weekend and I don't have a sitter anymore. That means no gym. I am in a panic. What am I going to do? I have lots of other ways to work out, but the gym works best for me. Now I wish my gym had daycare.
39 Mon, 24 Jun 2013 10:40:34 EST That's not sweat, that's my fat crying! So yesterday I got up and had a very hurt knee. I didn't go to the gym and I overate by 40 calories. Seriously I think I need to recalculate my intake goals. That many calories seems like way too many. Anyway, today I got up ate my pre-gym food and took some ibuprofen for my knee (which wasn't hurting as bad as yesterday, but still burning a little). Went to the gym and did my best 45 minutes to date. My knee is warm, but not hurting. Me and all of my neighbor ladies are taking our kids to t... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:35:10 EST Long fun day I started my day at the gym. Then I took my youngest to the dentist in Guerneville (witch is almost an hour away). I took my cousin's boy with and told them if they were good I would take them down to the river to get their feet wet. Of course they were very good. After the river, we went to the store. To my surprise, they were very well behaved there too! They got a free cookie (sugar cookie at that ~ oh no!). Sugar rush kicked in by the time we got to the fruit market. Still they were tryin... Fri, 14 Jun 2013 00:05:42 EST Woozy So I almost passed out last night. I was watching National Geographic with Lydia Blood and this guy got bite by a shark. They showed the attack and all the blood. I was feeling quite woozy. Took me 5 or ten minutes to shake it off. Totally lame. Mon, 3 Jun 2013 21:10:26 EST Truck's not truckin' So yesterday I started my truck and it sounded weird so I turned it off. The motor stopped but the starter was turning and I had a hard time getting it to stop. I took it to the shop, after calling them to make sure they fix these kinds of things (the guy assured me that they do), and they wouldn't even look at it! Wed, 29 May 2013 19:46:07 EST What the hay!? So I have been sticking with my calorie & nutrition goal set by SP and have been working out 3 to 5 times a week. I have been gaining weight! I didn't stress on it though, surely I am losing inches, but no. So I thought, maybe I should look up what other calorie calculators say I should be eating to lose weight. I thought for sure it would say something different, but no. So now I think I will have to call the doctor and find out what the problem is. She ran all kinds of tests on me and said ... Fri, 24 May 2013 10:58:52 EST I feel like crying I'm getting really frustrated. I have been working out and eating right. Why haven't I lost any weight or inches? I have been doing everything I'm suppose to do to lose weight and . . . . . nothing! I haven't lost an inch! All this work and no gains is discouraging. My doctor tested everything a month and a half ago, from my heart to my thyroid, and it's all good. I don't know what to do.
46 Tue, 21 May 2013 10:16:03 EST Stupid scale.... I'm making progress although I haven't lost much weight. It takes more to get my heart rate up. I can walk at a faster pace for a longer period. I have been doing the 4 week 'Eat Up, Slim Down' Challenge. I've been doing really well on this challenge by filling up on veggies and my daily totals look great. I started exercising in September 2012 and really cracked down on my food intake two months ago. I just don't understand why I'm not losing weight and my close fit the same as they did bef... Mon, 20 May 2013 17:56:28 EST I love butter? For as long as I can remember I have always loved butter. I would put it on everything, bread and butter, veggies in butter sauce, pancakes slathered in butter, butter steak even. So yesterday I wanted a snack and decided that I would splurge and have bread and butter. I took the first bite and it was nasty. The butter was too salty and the greasiness was too much. I tried scraping the butter off thinking maybe I put too much on, but it was no use. I didn't like it. So I think I still love bu... Tue, 14 May 2013 12:22:50 EST How fast? So I've been pushing a little harder each time I go to the gym. I'm getting very close to 5K a day, 4 days a week. I want to walk/jog, but how do I know how fast to program the treadmill? Mon, 13 May 2013 16:16:06 EST ...but there's still lots of tread left! Lately I have been bumping up my speed on the treadmill. I have also developed the devil blister's big brother! The first half of the workout is fine, but halfway through I can feel the blister growing. By the time I'm done my foot is stinging. Each time it gets just a bit bigger. Now it's the size of a silver dollar. So today I kept it slow and steady and the blister didn't get any bigger. I guess I need to look into new shoes. 24
On the bright side, I was looking over my ... Fri, 10 May 2013 13:52:58 EST On the Same Grid So this morning I went to the gym as usual. I did my hour on the treadmill. Yesterday I went a little too hard and today my knees are burning. So I did tone it down a little. I am still pumping it up, just not as much as yesterday. I got done and was wiping down my equipment and all of a sudden the power goes out. All the machines stopped, lights out, tvs off, and I hear a whole lot of AWW!s. I am so glad I got in as early as I did. When I got home to take my kid to school I found out our ho... Wed, 1 May 2013 15:38:03 EST Buzzing Bushes I had a great weekend with my bff. We went to the botanical gardens in Glen Ellen. We had a nice little hike. I took some pictures. It was beautiful! I just with there was a way to bottle all the different smells and sounds. I stopped to look at a flower and I heard loud buzzing coming from a bush. The bush was covered in tiny red flowers and bees. They also have some ponds with lily pads and pink and yellow flowers and polliwogs. There were a couple of small waterfalls and a hidden picnic ar... Sun, 28 Apr 2013 23:01:30 EST Running late Was running late today so I wasn't able to do a full hour. Then on the way home I remembered I'm doing an extra job tonight cleaning a winery. That will give me an extra hour at least. I'm still having trouble getting all the nutrients I need by eating the right foods. I think I'll go pick up some multi-vitamins.
315 Fri, 26 Apr 2013 12:02:33 EST Push a little harder, go a little farther So today I pushed a little harder and went a little farther. My body is feeling it and my mind is feeling good about it. When I walked out of the gym I was welcomed by the fog. Oh boy did it feel good! Blisters are still on my foot, but the new socks are helping a lot. Wed, 24 Apr 2013 12:42:14 EST Night Hike Saturday night I took a night hike at Sugar Loaf State Park. We hiked up to the observatory even though there was a shuttle. I am so proud of my friend who invited us to the stargazing party. She really pushed herself. I hope we can do it again some time soon!

Monday was back at the gym. I was so inspired by my friend, I pushed myself to work out harder. It was great. I felt super afterwards.

Today I did half an hour. Today was also the first day I went to the gym and t... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 14:11:01 EST To go or not to go... Today's visit to the gym was a short one. I didn't feel like going. My hamstrings were sore and tight. When I went to bed last night they started twitching. The devil blister is still there but feeling better. So I decided doing a half hour was better than not going at all. I'm glad I decided to go to the gym today. Thu, 18 Apr 2013 13:41:15 EST No pain no gain? Today's visit to the gym kicked my butt! My whole body is sore, but I'm going to take some Ibuprofen. That should take care of it, but what about this silly blister? I thought that it would have popped by now. I've had it for three days now and it just keeps getting bigger. It's on the bottom of my foot so it's hurting with every step. I tried soaking it, but that didn't help. I would just pop it myself, but I get woozy. Well, I'm not going to let some stupid ol' devil of a blister hold me ba... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 13:28:10 EST Today's workout Today's workout dedicated to my cousin Ellie. She is the voice I hear when I don't think I can. She always says "Just do it!" Tue, 16 Apr 2013 12:06:19 EST Back to the gym! So today was my first day back to the gym. The friends that I were going with kept flaking out on me. I tried going to the track, but my allergies made my asthma kick in. I really couldn't afford to join a gym but last week they had a special. One dollar start up and $10 a month. Perfect! So now I have a massive blister on my foot. Proof that I am on my way! Mon, 15 Apr 2013 13:20:22 EST Asthma + Sickness So I've been sick for about three weeks now. My doctor told me that I could be sick for a few months! Along with being sick my asthma has come back. This wouldn't be such a big deal if I had my own gym membership. My gym partners keep backing out on me so I have been away from the gym since I got sick. Right now I'm not able to use the track due to pollen and the cold (the only time I have to exercise is early morning). I have been able to get out and do a little hiking on the weekends, but I... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 11:12:10 EST How you feelin'? I'm lovin' all this exercise. Just sayin'.
321 Wed, 13 Feb 2013 13:58:05 EST Having fun while exercising? Heck ya!

So I was trying to find out where my grandpa is burried and I found a site called "find a grave". People send in requests for pictures of a loved ones burial spot. Then I decided that I can fill a request and get some exercise at the same time. I went to Oak Mound Cemetery in Healdsburg, CA with my daughter. We found some really beautiful headstones. Some were wooden and so old we couldn't read the names. We hiked... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 14:03:45 EST Why am I doing this? So today I went to the gym and did my thing. When I started my truck to leave, "Let it be" by the Beatles came on. I mean like the song had just started. That was the song they played at my mom's memorial service. So I sat there and listened and just cried. I knew that my mom was with me.
I am doing this for myself, but also for my mom. I remember her seeing people jogging and her saying "I wish I could do that.". About six months ago I saw someone jogging and thought, "I want to do tha... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 14:04:09 EST Frozen Tundra (A spoiled girl)
This morning I had two gym "dates". (I go with my friends because I don't have a membership) I go Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with my cousin @ 6:30 and Tuesday and Thursday with my good friend @ 8:30. So over the weekend my cousin went out of town. She wanted to go Tuesday because she missed Monday. So I figured , do the gym with my cousin, take my kid to school and then go with my friend. Well, my cousin texted me las... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 12:33:51 EST Drama Had a blow-out with my grown daughter who lives with me two days ago. I've had a headache for two days. Sat, 22 Dec 2012 12:47:11 EST BUFFET MAGIC!! So last night I went out to dinner with some family from back east. I haven't gone to this buffet restaurant in a few years. It has been one of my favorite places to eat since they opened over ten years ago. I wasn't sure how I would handle it. I planned to eat only small portions of my favorite foods and nothing else. Well, I got my first plate and to my surprise, it wasn't over filled. When I started eating, I noticed that my food didn't taste as good. It tasted exactly like it always had, ... Wed, 12 Dec 2012 21:36:09 EST The Gym Yesterday it was raining and my friend invited me to her gym. I've never been to a gym and wasn't sure what to expect. when I got there, my friend got me settled in on a treadmill. After an hour the thing go into "cool down" mode. I almost fell over it was going so slow. After a five minutes it shut down. Okay, so I get off it and could barely walk. That was a strange sensation. It didn't feel at all like getting off a ship. but I still needed to get my "land-legs" back. I didn't think I woul... Thu, 6 Dec 2012 20:47:04 EST I Will Be a Runner
I can't wait 'til the day that I am a runner. I'm almost there. Sat, 24 Nov 2012 21:00:38 EST I won't stay down! I watch my cousins baby during the week. A couple of weeks ago he smacked me with his toy and broke my front tooth. I just got back from the dentist where they pulled out the root. I have not been going anywhere since my tooth has been missing. The only places I go are to take my daughter to school, work, and the track. It seems that the more I do for myself, the more bad things try to stop me. Well this time I'm not giving up. I am continuing on my path to a healthy and joyful life.
... Mon, 12 Nov 2012 13:52:20 EST Yep, it's rainin' Last time it rained, I got a little nervous about using the track but went anyway. It was flooded in places, but it wasn't raining. It might be raining tomorrow morning. I can't exercise in my house (it's VERY small). I need to find quiet exercises that dont take much space. Walking in place is so boring. Not sure what I'm going to do.
24 Wed, 31 Oct 2012 18:19:16 EST My little nugget My youngest child is my little nugget. She went to the track with me today. Needless to say my walk was awesome! While we walk I get to here her stories of how her week went. She told me about the girls in her class and how they want to have a sleep-over. She kept me from stepping in the dog-doo that was on the track. She inspires me. I love my little nugget. Someday I will be able to run and play with her the way I want to.

Sat, 27 Oct 2012 13:55:28 EST Walking with my love glasses on! Today when I got to the track, it was empty. I put on my headphones (My daughter helped me make a playlist for walking, which includes the song "Put Your Love Glasses On" By Beckah Shae) and started walking. It had been raining all night and the track was flooded in some places, so I walked on the far outside part of the track. By the time I was done my friend was there to walk with me. So I did another lap with her. It's her birthday so she complained for about half the lap, but after that s... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 13:17:19 EST Just venting ~ again. So this morning I went to the track where my friend (we'll call her "J") met up with me as she usually does. We began our walk and J was trying to explain something. I didn't understand so I asked her a question. She was very short with me and told me that if I wasn't understanding what she was saying that I never would. She acted like.. how dare you ask a question, you idiot. I began to get angry right back at her. I even thought to myself "should I just ask her to leave?" but I didn't, I ju... Thu, 18 Oct 2012 12:53:02 EST Walking with a downer So my friend has been walking with me in the morning for the last week. That's a good thing, but it's also a downer. She complains the WHOLE time. She cusses and gets very loud. I have tried to calm her down, but she gets very upset with me. I have a hard time keeping track of my laps too. I've never known anyone who works out in flip flops. I was complaining that I wanted a walking buddy and now I have one. She has been my friend for many years and I love her, but sometimes.....I just don't ... Sun, 7 Oct 2012 22:56:30 EST Drinking my 8 Okay, so I've been really good with getting in my 8+ glasses of water a day. One big problem, my sleep is suffering. I am up every few hours to use the bathroom. Oh - My - Goodness. I start drinking water when I first get up. I find that ice water helps get my body going better than my coffee does. I drink water all day long. I think I'm going to try drinking my last glass of water with dinner. Hopefully that stops the midnight pit stops! Wed, 3 Oct 2012 13:34:04 EST Whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis?! Okay, I've been here for almost a month. I have been exercising and staying within my nutrition goals. I went from couch potato to track diva in a month and I have been gaining weight!? I just don't understand how this could be. My clothes don't fit me any differently. So I am supposing it is muscle gain? Don't worry, I'm not giving up. I just hope the scale starts going the other way. Mon, 1 Oct 2012 10:48:47 EST To exercise or not to exercise? That is the question. I feel a little sickly. No fever, but my tummy hurts and I have a headache. I didn't get my walk in yesterday so I feel a need to exercise, but my body doesn't really want to. Erg. Wed, 26 Sep 2012 18:09:11 EST Big Steps O-M-GEE. I can't believe I walk/jogged for so long today! I have done it once before, but not nearly as far. It was so much easier than the first time. YAY ME!! I am so stoked! BTW, both of my kids did it with me. Being with them made it a lot funner. Sat, 22 Sep 2012 23:17:08 EST Walking alone So yesterday I walked with my daughter and a friend of mine. I found it much easier to go farther. I didn't hurt as much as I do when I'm walking alone. I walked alone today (as I usually do) but started hurting after the first lap of the track. I wanted to quit for the day and go home, but I stayed and finished my mile. By the time I was done walking I was in a lot of pain. I think having a walking buddy would help me go farther. Wed, 19 Sep 2012 12:52:48 EST
