FINCHFEEDER80's SparkPeople Blog FINCHFEEDER80's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community July weigh in The theme of this weekend was self-sabatoge. I don't really know why I do this sometimes. I know some of my eating was emotional eating. Some of it was probably hormone driven. And I was just laaaaazy!! It was just the perfect weekend to be out jogging, doing yard work, just being outdoors. We were in the 80's with minimal humidity, sunny, barely a cloud in the sky- perfect weather! Besides hitting the gym Friday morning, getting my hair cut and grocery shopping on Saturday, I don't think I ... Mon, 7 Jul 2014 08:56:49 EST Boot Camp 2014 Yesterday was the last day of our summer boot camp at the gym. I have very mixed feelings about it being over.

First, why I'm glad it's over. I'm exhausted. Pulling two work outs a day for four days of the week, and single work outs the other two has definitely worn me out! All the boot camp classes are in the evenings, and since I'm normally a morning exerciser, I maintained my regular work out schedule because I knew if I took the month off from the mornings, I would destroy all... Thu, 3 Jul 2014 11:00:19 EST Busy weekend This weekend I worked on getting the rest of the house unpacked. I got the half of the kitchen stuff we hadn't put away yet tackled, which subsequently cleaned out the dining room, since that's where all the kitchen boxes were. I also got half of the den cleared out in my quest to get all of my clothes out and hung in the closet. If I encountered a bag that wasn't clothes, I would just go ahead and get that put away too, so didn't have to do it next time. I'm hoping I can get the rest finish... Mon, 23 Jun 2014 10:42:38 EST Celebrate good times. I'm going to be out of the three's in nine pounds! I really need to take a second and celebrate that when it happens, but I have nooooo idea what to do! At least I have a couple of weeks to think of something! I haven't really rewarded myself before, usually when I try to think about it, all I see are the dollar signs attatched. I'm going to have to put a little aside or some such thing until it happens. How odd it's going to be. Fri, 20 Jun 2014 15:55:38 EST Boot Camp- Week 2, Day 3 Let's discuss the medieval torture known as planks, shall we? My boot camp class yesterday was a TRX session, and we did a purely core workout. It was brutal. It was all plank work. So in your mind, take a plank. Now, take your feet and suspend them in straps and envision the same plank. Yup. Do the same with side planks. That's right, I said suspended side planks. Here was the kicker. Lie on your back (supine) and put your heels in said straps. Leaving your upper back/shoulders pressed into ... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 10:47:41 EST So yesterday was fun I ran yesterday, finished up week 2 of my C25k program. The boot camp I'm doing this month had a class yesterday, but I couldn't get a slot in the class, so I really pushed it in the morning, since I knew I wouldn't be back later on.

Well, I got a call from the gym and someone had to cancel so I got into class! We did elliptical intervals. The basic run down is we did a minute fast on the elliptical, then hopped off and did 12 reps of a strength exercise with dumbbells. Then repea... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 10:27:29 EST Throwback Thursday Fun (I'm stealing this from a friend!) Cause that's how I roll. So I'm over here on my work computer trying to find the oldest serviceable pic on here. I wish I knew how to put two pictures side by side in a single image, it would be neat to do a comparison, even though I'm fairly convinced not much has changed. So, for your viewing pleasure, here are two pics from two and a half years ago when I was choosing my wedding dress:

<img src="http://ph... Thu, 12 Jun 2014 14:45:07 EST Connects Corporate 4-Miler This race is designed for teams from the same company to sign up together. It's billed as a way to make new contacts at your office and network with other professionals. Of course, you can sign up sans-team as well.

We had a guy in our office start a team, and there were about 17 of us from SunTrust out there. It was a beautiful evening- upper 70's, sunny/clear, no humidity- you couldn't ask for better weather!

The course was nice, and the miles felt like they went by r... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 10:16:14 EST WOO HOO!! So you all know I've been in the midst of a ridiculous plateau, like, all year. I weighed in last with my trainer on January 23rd at 338 pounds. Since then, I've floated anywhere between 345-327ish, mostly hanging out in the mid 330's, using the same scale each time- the one that lives in the locker room. It's been a very frustrating experience. Especially when people tell me they can really tell I've lost weight. I usually run around saying that people are lying to me, but I appreciate the t... Mon, 2 Jun 2014 09:34:09 EST Jean-Luc's a big brother! We got a new kitten Monday! She is teensy and ADORABLE! We haven't name her yet, but she is my fearless little Valkyrie, that's for sure. She's nine weeks old tomorrow and she really can't weigh more than a pound, but she's not scared of anything- not even the giant Jean-Luc. He was a little put out at first, but he seems to be coming around. We think he kind of wants to play with her, but she's so tiny, it's like he can't figure out how. But yesterday he started shoving his nose up her butt... Thu, 29 May 2014 15:00:57 EST Howdy ya'll! I just wanted to drop a quick hello! I haven't been as active on here this week. It's been busy at work, and I've been fighting off some kind of upper respiratory fungus. I don't know if it was a cold or not. I certainly never felt sick, just a little run down. But no fever, no chills, aches, sore throat, just chest congestion and a stuffy/runny nose. It seems to be on it's way out, although I'll have the cough for a while. The joys of asmatic lungs.

I'm going camping this weekend... Thu, 22 May 2014 10:15:09 EST Empowering camping Next weekend is my annual Memorial Weekend camping trip and I'm soooo excited! We'll be there Friday and pack out that Monday. I usually use this as an excuse to go crazy with the food, but considering my big scary half marathon is a week away and I have a weigh in the following Monday, I've been sitting here working on a game plan for groceries this weekend, since this will probably be my last chance to shop before I go. Here's a rough idea of what I'm thinking:

Beveridges:
4... Thu, 15 May 2014 11:52:55 EST Di's Fun Factoid I learned something interesting about myself Saturday while hanging out with my Mama. I've been dairy-free (mostly- still have some cheese here and there, butter and sour cream) for a month or two now. I noticed that my skin, while still not great, has cleared up a lot, and my sinuses aren't in quite as much turmoil. I have year-round allergies, they're never going to be perfect, but if I can help my poor little sinuses, I'll do what I can. And I just don't feel quite so bloated and sluggish.... Tue, 13 May 2014 11:30:28 EST Happy Thursday! Thank you for the well wishes yesterday!! I don't know what was up with my tums, but I'm feeling much better today. I could have done with a couple extra hours' sleep, but who couldn't these days!

Got in a really good workout this morning. I spent 20 minutes on the ARC trainer, I did a quick 20 minute strength circuit, and then I did a 10k program on the Octane bike. It starts out the mileage counter at 6.2 and the time keeps counting until you finish the 10k. I forget what my PR ... Thu, 8 May 2014 11:47:53 EST The problem with being everyone's back up...... Is there will come a day when you try to call in sick (which I rarely do) and someone you cover has beat you to the punch.

We did DIY tacos last night, and before dinner I was munching on chips and salsa. We didn't actually eat dinner till nine. So I was up half the night with heartburn, and then while I was getting ready to soldier on to the gym I decided I would see if I could find my pepto bismol (which I never did). TMI alert!- I had just started rummaging through a box when I ... Wed, 7 May 2014 08:17:51 EST My house! Thought I'd put a couple of pics up for anyone who's interested in seeing the new digs. 41

Here's the front:

The kitchen:

Living Room:

The Den/Family Room/Whatever people are calling it these days:
<img src="http:... Tue, 6 May 2014 11:40:47 EST Closings and FitBit and Rain, oh my. We have gotten so much rain since Saturday evening, it's crazy! There are several roads in the area that are closed down because they're flooded, and we drove past a couple of neighborhoods yesterday evening that I don't know how they're going to get in or out. Apparently it is monsoon season here in Virginia. Our POD has been sitting in the driveway of what will be our new house since Monday, and I'm terrified that everything in there is soaked now. I'm almost afraid to open it!

... Thu, 1 May 2014 10:05:26 EST What a morning! First, for the folks kind enough to comment on my last blog that I haven't written back to, here's an update on the gym shower situation. It has been acknowledged that there is indeed a problem. It was discovered when they were correcting the issue with not having enough hot water. The plumber, I believe, had to order a part and has also been going through a lot in his personal life. Apparently his wife has cancer. The owner has been working with him for a long time, and is pretty loyal to hi... Fri, 25 Apr 2014 10:38:36 EST Drama Llama Strikes the Gym I talked about this some on my BLC team board, so it's old news to some, but here's what's been going on and why one of my besties there is leaving.

About a month ago now, we were having trouble getting any hot water to last through all us morning folks showering. There's about 10 or so of us who are there basically every day. But depending on what's going on, there can be up to 20 or so folks cycling through four shower stalls. After a few days of some COLD showers, a couple of th... Mon, 21 Apr 2014 11:38:25 EST Venting the Crazy Parade in my head. It's Thursday- which means the start of Week 6 for the Spring into Action BLC. It also means weekly weigh ins are due. I haven't been 100% on point with food this week, but it's been an over all successful week. I didn't even have a weekend long eat-a-thon as I am prone to do. And I STILL posted a nine pound gain despite my hard work. Below is some of the crazy ranting that occured about 9ish this morning when there was a part of me trying to talk myself into a snack when I really didn't actu... Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:53:19 EST Happy Anniversary, Spark! It's been two years today since I re-joined SparkPeople. 504

Weight wise- I'm 24 pounds less than when I started this thing. So I'm effectivly averaging a pound a month. There have been many ups and downs, but I never have quite gotten all the way back up to where I started.

Fitness wise- I'm in better shape than I was. My times haven't really gotten faster, but I have oodles of stamina, and I'm so much more willing to try things, instead of just assuming I... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 09:11:53 EST The hodge podge blog Good morning and happy Monday!

My weekend was fairly quiet. I did go to an alpaca farm and watch their shearing, though, so that was a lot of fun. Alpaca look so funny when all their hair is gone; like little aliens! I bought a box of roving, which is the fiber after it's been "processed", which is basically carded. I have some rudimentary spinning skills and a drop spindle somewhere in my pod, so I'll play with my soft soft alpaca when we move.

I didn't eat quite as we... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 09:40:32 EST Poetry Corner This is one of my favorite poems, and for whatever reason, it's been floating around my brain today:

The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls

The tide rises, the tide falls,
The twilight darkens, the curlew calls;
Along the sea-sands damp and brown
the traveller hastens toward the town,
And the tide rises, the tide falls

Darkness settles on roofs and walls,
But the sea, the sea in the darkness calls;
The little waves, with their soft, ... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 16:13:40 EST My chat with Molly I got done eating dinner last night and settled on the couch, then sat up in a blind panic and said, "OH MY GOD- MY CALL WITH MOLLY! WHAT TIME IS IT? It was 7:15, and my call was at eight, *WHEW!*

It was a great experience! She's very down to earth and easy to talk to. I wish I could afford to hire her, but I'll keep spreading her message, for sure!

She made me feel better about a lot of the things I am doing, and gave me some advice on things that stress me out- like n... Tue, 8 Apr 2014 09:32:52 EST 32 Weeks and Counting No, I'm not pregnant- That's how long I have until my very first half marathon! EEK!! So in the time it takes to grow a whole new human, I'm going to grow a whole new me! Because this race is going to take a lot more dedication than anything else I've ever done. It will be the longest distance I've ever traveled by foot, and I'm hoping to run as much of it as possible.

10k training this year took a bit more of a toll on me than I expected it to, so I'm feeling like I'm starting fr... Mon, 7 Apr 2014 14:25:21 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge Closure It actually ended yesterday, but I wrote my final response out to Molly this afternoon. One day one we filled out the below questionaire and tallied our score.
Rank how you feel about a few things on a scale from 1-10, 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. Print the questions out or write them down and write down your rankings for each one, and compare them to your original score to see the tangible improvement.

1. How do you feel when you think about how your body looks? <BR... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 17:15:26 EST 10k/ Move Out Weekend This weekend was super super busy! 198

It got started Saturday morning with my dad and I doing our second Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k. I really almost didn't do it. The forecast was for crappy weather, I was running on a couple of late nights and too early mornings, and after my last two races being soggy nightmares, I just wasn't sure I was up to it. My blog prior to this goes more into how I turned that attitude around. I got up, and the weather was.... ok. It was dr... Tue, 1 Apr 2014 14:23:54 EST 10k Eve My 10k is tomorrow. It will be my second time doing Richmond's Monument Avenue 10k. Last year was the first. I joined the official training team this year, just to give it a try. It was nice in some ways. It got me up out of bed on Saturday mornings when I would have otherwise slept in. I met some nice people and got out and walked in weather I would have otherwise not attempted. However, I did quit going for the last four weeks. I found the overall training program to be too aggressive. I wa... Fri, 28 Mar 2014 16:16:16 EST Good Morning! I just wanted to say hi and wish everyone a Happy Thursday! 125

I've been feeling really good this week! I've got a couple of stiff places here and there from working out, but that's normal, and I think it's actually helping to contribute to this feeling. It's like my physical evidence that I have not only worked out, but pushed myself, too.

I should be a train wreck. My 10k looks like it's going to get rained out, we're moving this weekend, so my apartmen... Thu, 27 Mar 2014 09:49:20 EST I won, I won!! You all know that I'm a huge fan of Molly Galbraith. She's who is running the Love Yourself challenge that I post about. She was promoting this new workout plan her friend Jen Sinkler developed called Lift Weights Faster. It was on sale this week, since it was launch week, so I decided to but it to give it a try. I've really been thinking about improving my strength training program, so this was perfect timing.

Since Molly was helping promote it, I purchased it through the link sh... Sat, 22 Mar 2014 13:23:53 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge Day 14 "Reason #14 To Love Your Body
14. Because I’m not just, “strong for a girl.” I am just plain STRONG.

Yes, being strong is a reason we have touched on twice now, but with very good reason. Recognizing our own strength is an absolutely critical piece of the self-embracement puzzle, and too often we simply think of being “strong” as just a physical attribute, and don’t recognize the mental and emotional strength we possess.

In that same vein, as I discussed last week... Mon, 17 Mar 2014 14:40:14 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge Day 11 "Reason #11 To Love Your Body
11. Because it deserves it.

Have you ever thought of that? Loving your body simply because it deserves it? Because YOU deserve it? Because you’re worth it?

You. You are kind, strong, worthy, and smart. Fri, 14 Mar 2014 15:43:31 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge- Day 10 Really, you should go read today's entire article. Just, wow. To summarize it was about learning to not downplay our strengths and accepting compliments with deferring to a perceived flaw in ourselves.

our-body-challenge-day-10/#comment-17602

Today's mantra: “My body is strong, and so I am, and I will no longer apologize for either of those truths.”

This was my response to the action step today:
This day hit har... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 15:15:55 EST Jean-Luc Checking In My fuzzy little trouble maker reminded me last night that he hasn't gotten any air time over here at SP in a while. He's photobombed my Facebook page left and right, but his loyal fans here have not received the same attention. So without further ado, here are the latest Jean-Luc antics. As you will notice, he just loves sitting like he's a people.

He loves hanging out on my gym bag, it's one of his favorite places to sit.
<img src=" Thu, 13 Mar 2014 11:27:59 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge- Day 8 Mantra: ”I love my body. From getting out to bed, to walking your dogs, to picking up your children, to performing a Turkish Get-up, your body does amazing things each day. I also want you to take 1 minute to picture what it would be like to be impaired in some fashion ... Tue, 11 Mar 2014 14:22:20 EST My (Almost) Meatless and Dairy Free Adventure I've decided to go mostly dairy free for a while to see if that will help with some of my gunky sinus issues as well as maybe tone down my lingering acne issue. I say mostly because I have no intentions of giving up butter, and I have yet to find a suitable replacement for yogurt. Let me just tell you guys about "cultured coconut/almond milk": it is the strangest thing ever. The texture is just a little bizarre, and it just tastes fake.

I bought a pack of daiya's cheddar style sli... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 21:42:52 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge- Day Five Reason #5 To Love Your Body

5. Because it’s beautiful.

Yes, you. You are beautiful. Not 20 lbs from now. Or 2 clothing sizes from now. Or the perfect spouse/house/job/salary from now. Right now. You are beautiful.

So why is it so hard for us to believe this?

Because the societal definition of “beauty” is consistently changing.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

If you’re constantly trying to keep up with society’... Sat, 8 Mar 2014 22:57:59 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge- Day Four ”My existence is a miracle. I am not here by accident. My life has purpose and meaning, and that purpose and meaning is: to leave the world a better place than I found it.”

I think, to me, the biggest part of my mantra today is to spread joy. No matter where I am physically, mentally or emotionally, I love nothing more than to help contribute to someone's good vibes, or help them see the bright side of a situation. I love trying to help someone come up with an action step they ca... Fri, 7 Mar 2014 10:28:57 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge- Day Three Today's mantra:

"I'm strong enough to _____, and I'm proud of that."

keep going.

There have been so many times in the past year that I have physically or mentally wanted to give up. I have stumbled, and fallen. But I have always kept going.

-body-challenge-day-3/
Thu, 6 Mar 2014 11:56:32 EST Love Yourself Body Challenge I'm sharing a part of what I wrote on my BLC message board this morning, because I love this lady and what she strives to do, so I want to spread the word.

Alright! Hopefully this last storm is it for the year, because I am sure ready for Spring! This up and down in the weather started to get me in a little bit of a funk, and I am shaking it out as of today! It's definitely "fake it till you make it" time! So I'm going to plaster a big 'ole smile on my face and hitch up my big girl... Wed, 5 Mar 2014 10:33:41 EST Rewards! Thanks for listening to me yesterday! I'm definitely overwhelmed, but I'm going to really try and get more organized this weekend, and I think that will help me tremendously!

It dawned me that I haven't rewarded myself in a long time. I haven't really make any progress weight loss wise, but I've still been working hard, and keeping the commitment to make time for me to exercise every day. I've missed a few days here and there, but I've also kept up with the training team's program ... Wed, 26 Feb 2014 16:04:03 EST I'm kind of whiney and complainy today. Sorry. I wrote about our latest adventure in attempting to be home owners, and I'd figure I'd share if anyone else was interested.

About the house. We had an inspection on Saturday. To make a long story shorter, after three and a half hours going through the house we discovered that what the investment group that is obviously trying to flip this thing has done was make the house pretty, but did no real improvements to the house.

The roof needs to be replaced. The two upsairs b... Tue, 25 Feb 2014 14:08:38 EST How crazy do I want to be this year? The race that kind of kicked off this snail's pace journey for me is coming up again. It's called the Ashland Railroad Run. They have three distances you can choose: a 5k (which I've done two years in a row now), a 10k, or what they call the "Center of the Universe" challenge- where you do both the 5 and 10k's. I'm trying to decide what to register for! I mean..... It's a month after the 10k I'm already training for, so I'll be conditioned for that distance. There's a really sadistic part of ... Sun, 23 Feb 2014 19:53:39 EST Yay for exercise! I had a physical last week, and the results of my lab work showed up Saturday in the mail. I'm happy to report that my numbers were excellent! Just to hit the highlights, my fasting glucose was 89, my total cholestrol was 144. LDL, HDL and Triglycerides were all in the normal ranges. In fact, just about everything was smack in the middle of the normal range. So really, all I need is to work on my weight! This just really shows you the power of exercise. I may not have hit the right food intak... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 11:54:12 EST All kinds of news today! Yesterday was a crazy mixed bag of emotions for me yesterday. First off, as I put on my status, I had a late afternoon physical appointment, so I was STARVING all day. 46 Of course, I won't know about the lab results for a few days, but the office visit of the exam went really well. My blood pressure was good: 124/79, and all of his listening and poking and prodding came back just fine. He was very pleased with his findings and hearing about my efforts at the gym. He told me to ke... Wed, 5 Feb 2014 12:20:52 EST On a positive note- Check out my January calendar! It's from my work desk, so it doesn't have all my exercise, but look at my run consistency! I may still be slow, and only able to jog more than 3-4 minutes without a walking interval, but at least I'm keeping at it! Now that it's uploaded, you probably can't read it- I can't, at least. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this month I have put in some kind of running effort.

Thu, 30 Jan 2014 14:49:31 EST Let's shake things up, shall we?! First off- thank you all for the concern over my finger. Doesn't it feel so silly to have such a little part of your body wreak so much havoc? It's still tender, and quite atrocious looking, and the antibiotics are doing their best to destroy my digestive system, but it's getting better. The swelling, heat and discoleration are going down. I'm still waiting to see if the nail starts showing signs of coming off. It's a possibility, but you know, they grow back, so no biggie. I appreciate your ... Thu, 30 Jan 2014 11:05:55 EST I'm ok! It was a paronychia infection. Basically an infection around the nail. He drained it, and wrote me a prescription for augmentin, which I have to take twice a day for five days. I might lose the nail. And I should continue to soak it in some Epsom salt. Hopefully it will start feeling better soon, after it gets over the indignity of being hacked into. So nothing crazy or serious, just a first for me, In the meantime, since I'm lefty and its on my left middle finger, life shall be interesting!... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 10:48:25 EST Wish me luck! I've got a doctor's appointment in about 40 minutes to look at an abcess on my left middle finger. And I'm left handed, so you can imagine how interesting the past week has been. I had originally thought it was a burn, but it's been getting progressively worse for a few days now. It is swollen, painful and beyond disgusting looking. I'll spare you pictures. So I'm putting on my big girl panties and going to the doctor this morning. I'm nervous, because I'm afraid he's going to lance it or som... Tue, 28 Jan 2014 08:55:39 EST January Weigh-In This morning was my monthly body comp. meeting with my trainer. When I say trainer, it's not like a personal trainer that you pay- she offers that, she's certified and everything! I'd love ot afford her one day- but my gym offers some basic level personal training for free. We meet up once a month, she does my weight and measurements and then we go over my strength training plan and make any changes if we feel any are necessary. Its nice to have that available. And it also adds a level of acc... Thu, 23 Jan 2014 15:35:01 EST
