FINCHFEEDER80's SparkPeople Blog FINCHFEEDER80's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Well hello there!
So it's been a while, huh? I wish I could report new, exciting victories and milestones, but I'm more or less (20 pounds more, really!!) from where I was when I got pregnant. Losing the habit of daily exercise and being active has been hard to get back but I am getting there. I've gotten my manager to allow me to leave at 4:30 which buys me some gym time after work, and it's gotten cooler which ... Thu, 14 Sep 2017 11:08:15 EST Meg's Miles, 2015 I don't know if anyone remembered me talking about it last year, but on January 13th, 2014 a local woman named Meg Menzies was struck by a car and killed while training for the Boston Marathon. The following Saturday was the start of the Monument Ave 10k training teams training, so that day all miles run/walked were dedicated to Meg. This coming Saturday, the 17th will be dedicated to Meg again. So if my walker and runner friends happen to think about it, wear blue in honor of Meg (it was her... Mon, 12 Jan 2015 10:00:59 EST Let's make the rest of 2014 count! It would be so easy just to write off this last month of the year. Especially with the holidays. Especially with being pregnant. I really kind of checked out for a few days. It started Thursday, and went right on through the pint of Ben and Jerry's I plowed through last night in front of the TV.

My gym is definitely trying to help keep us motivated. We're doing a two week fitness blitz starting next Monday, and then we've got this game of sorts called Shape up. Basically, for cert... Mon, 24 Nov 2014 11:20:26 EST 2014 American Family Fitness Half Marathon 11-15-2014 Saturday I started in my first half marathon. I've been training for this sucker since about mid-August. I put in the miles and the training time and I was ready to go and also just ready to have this thing completed and no longer looming over my head.

Friday is almost worth it's own entire blog. It was my dad's 60th birthday, who lives in Hampton, which is about an hour and a half drive from Richmond. So my step-mom arranged for us to meet for dinner in Williamsburg, about 45 min... Mon, 17 Nov 2014 09:02:18 EST Exciting times! I have no idea how one gracefully goes about announcing these things, so here we go:

I'm pregnant! Say hello to Fergus the Fetus.

It's still pretty early, I'm not due until June 13th. I definitely plan on hanging around here, staying active and making this the best and healthiest experience it can be. So far it's been going pretty good, and for that I'm grateful!

And before you ask, yes,... Wed, 12 Nov 2014 08:28:23 EST I finished something! Well, ok, I still have the actual race to do, but I officially finished my half marathon training yesterday with a ten mile walk! This Saturday I'll probably do a little four or five mile taper, but the hard stuff is finished! I don't know that I've ever finished an official training program before. I end up petering out about 2/3 of the way through. I always do my event, just never fully train for it. And I can't tell you how many times I've started C25k and never finished it. That will cert... Mon, 3 Nov 2014 10:49:30 EST Weekend catch up My weekend was filled with super quiet, and super excitement!

Saturday I took as a full on rest day. Between exercising during the week, half marathon training and general housework/chores, I hadn't had a real day off in close to three weeks. And I was feeling pretty run down by Friday night. So much so that we were in bed with the lights out before 10:30. The hubs had to work Saturday, so after I got up around 8:30, I settled down into the recliner where I proceeded to camp out wi... Mon, 27 Oct 2014 09:39:33 EST Girls Gone Strong Results I forget if I mentioned it, but a month ago my gym started a self guided challenge called Girls Gone Strong. Basically, you picked a muscle group you wanted to work on and a pre-assessment was done. Three reps of the highest weight you could maintain proper form with. We were then given a workout outline to follow, and at the end of 30-ish days, we would do a post assessment to see how we improved. The owner wanted to put some focus on strength training, since so many women shy away from it. ... Wed, 22 Oct 2014 11:31:36 EST 26 days to go, one more long walk. My ticker has informed me there are only 26 days until my half marathon. Let me tell you guys; I am so ready to get this thing over with. My best friend is doing it with me and we had our next to last big walk yesterday. Nine miles. Nine. Flippin. Miles. Three hours. This stopped being fun after six or seven miles. I'm am so very grateful that I have a friend to do this training and race with because honestly, I don't think I would have made it this far going solo. I like to think that I'm a ... Mon, 20 Oct 2014 10:19:03 EST Change in Plans So. I just sent my nutritionist a big fat break up email. I got my first bill for what my insurance doesn't cover and it was $200 for three visits! My poor little HSA account can't take that kind of abuse. I can't only put in $200 a month as it is. And I'm about to be up to my eyeballs with other medical bills, so I need to save where I can. And I certainly can't afford this out of pocket. I was kind of afraid that this would happen.

As I talked about before, I was also concerned a... Thu, 16 Oct 2014 10:24:57 EST The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round Until they fall off. (I'm giving you fair warning now, there is some non-graphic lady parts discussion below, if that's something you'd rather not read.)

The wheels kind of fell off my bus this weekend. Looser habits have been kind of creeping in for a few nights prior. And then Thursday night I ended up buying some chocolate when I stopped for gas on my way home. I didn't go completely off of the deep end, but I did make cupcakes Saturday. And ate too many of them.

I'v... Mon, 6 Oct 2014 10:24:19 EST Thoughts From the Office Bathroom Mirror Isn't it funny how much a neckline can change how you look? I'm wearing a fairly wide, scooped neckline shirt. It's a bit like a pheasant top. If it wouldn't be totally embarrasing to get caught at it, I'd take a selfie for reference.

As I was washing my hands in the bathroom and looked up in the mirror to make sure my makeup or hair hadn't done anything weird and I found myself enjoying what I saw in the mirror. A lot of it was thanks to great makeup- I'm still pretty blotchy aft... Fri, 3 Oct 2014 11:24:20 EST Has anyone used the Vivo Fit? My FitBit is probably going to hear this and disown me! Does anyone have any experience with the Vivo Fit? I was looking at its specs today online and I really like that it is water resistant up to 50 meters and has a heart rate monitor built-in. I have loved my FitBit but the Vivo has certainly piqued my iinterest and I'd love to hear your opinion on it if you've been using it. Thanks a bunch! Sat, 27 Sep 2014 13:11:03 EST National Novel Writers Month (aka NaNoWriMo) Has anyone done this before? I did it back in '09. The brief explanation is that for the 30 days of November you are challenged to write 50,000. They have a site where you can upload your word count and connect with other local participants, etc. The only real rule is that you must write a new piece of work. You cannot work on a piece already in progress. You are allowed to work on character sketches, plot layouts, storyboards, etc. You just can't actually start writing your book until Nov. 1... Fri, 26 Sep 2014 15:23:13 EST Musings on a Gloomy Thursday I was reading a friend's blog on being respectful and treating other people decently that stirred up a lot of feelings for me on something that I need to do more work on.

I am generally a friendly, open person. We all encounter those people that we just don't click with or who rub us the wrong way, but I try to take people at face value and give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm good at seeing both sides of a situation and can generally empathize with how each came to their own c... Thu, 25 Sep 2014 10:36:29 EST Pretty Muddy 2014 This was my first mud run, so I really had no idea of what to expect. I was advised to bring a garbage for muddy things, a change of clothes and shoes and a towel, which I heeded. What I wasn't expecting was to pay $10 to park! According to the park ranger (the event was held in a state park) the event coordinator claimed they sent an email out the day before advising of the parking fee. Ok, really, who reads those things? After weeks of getting trivial emails from them, why would I pay atten... Mon, 22 Sep 2014 09:53:21 EST It's a joyful kind of day. I'm usually in a good mood, but I'm feeling a little extra pep in my step today. I'm excited for my first mud run tomorrow. The whole idea of getting to roll around in the mud like a giant two year old just makes me giddy. And did I mention there's a giant inflatable slide?? How could I not be in a good mood?

This probably makes me a shallow person, but I have to admit that all these compliments I've gotten between yesterday and this morning are not hurting the situation. I think I... Fri, 19 Sep 2014 11:21:58 EST Costco-ing, the return of the stairs and a few more pics and random stuff. Good morning! 67

Mom and I share a COSTCO membership. We got it a couple of years ago to get food for my wedding, since we were doing burgers and dogs on the grills at the park. I mostly use it for gas. In an effort to save some money, the hubs and I have been buying chicken and pork chops in bulk at the grocery store. The lightbulb finally went off in my head that- DUH!- we have a warehouse membership! So we went last night and stocked up on some chicken breasts, pork... Thu, 18 Sep 2014 11:52:13 EST Vacay and Color Run Pics (LONG and lots and lots of pics!) Mom and I went to the Outer Banks for four nights last week on our annual "Mommy and Me" excursion. I was scheduled for a six mile training run that week, so I got up super early, went out there and got it done before we left! My first mile was 16:47, and my last was 19:43- HAHA! I haven't done that many miles since the 10k at the end of March.

We've had better weather down there, but we always make a good time for ourselves. We got in Saturday and it was pretty that afternoon so ... Wed, 17 Sep 2014 16:03:41 EST Adventures in Exercising So I'm a total schumck and am copying this from a post I just left on one of my message boards. Because it's short (for me and a blog) and I'll never tell it right a second time.
20

I found my wall at the gym on this new plan today. I'm not supposed to be eating "first breakfast" before the gym anymore. So far this has not been an issue. This morning I banged out three miles in about 54 minutes on the treadmill. Apparently this is a problem. I was ok until about... Thu, 4 Sep 2014 10:06:08 EST Week One Results on the new plan and Phentermine First off, let's get the big news out of the way: I lost 12.6 pounds this week! 244 I'm super happy, but I also know it's the norm when you start a new eating plan to have an awesome week one. But I will certainly take it!

My nutritionist is pleased. I won't see her again until the 19th. Since I didn't have any problems staying on plan, and she's just a phone call away, we can space out our visits. (My HSA thanks me for that one!)

I only "cheated" once this ... Wed, 3 Sep 2014 16:33:03 EST Writing it out. I'm just here to ramble for a moment. I'm less than a week into this new plan and today is definitely my first challenge. It's a day off from work and I'm home alone. Usually this leads to all day snacking. And camping out on the couch.

I'm not entirely sure what if anything I'm going to do for movement. It's going to be a hot one today, I think the heat index is already around 100. There is, of course, a couple of rooms I need to work on. And I may go for another stroll later. I ... Mon, 1 Sep 2014 13:10:58 EST You ask, I deliver! Introducing, my hair:

I love it, maybe I finally found my style!
Sun, 31 Aug 2014 21:46:17 EST Days 2-4: Of training, bestie time, and Lush This blog is brought to you from the luxury of my first Lush bubblebar bath. It's also the first bath I've taken in our house! The bubblebar has turned my bath into a silky, rose scented, pink watered spa treatment for my well worked legs. This may be the best bath ever!

So Friday was fine. The Phentermine made me a little amped up, but nothing serious. No heartburn since the first day. I did miss a snack in there. I've noticed a tendency to forget to eat on this stuff. But I stuck... Sun, 31 Aug 2014 21:02:38 EST I have a wild hair. Pun may or may not have been intentional. So. I was going to wait until after we got back from the beach, but I'm feeling this wild urge for a new haircut. I saw this video yesterday and I am just in love with her haircut. It's similar to the pixie cut I've been sporting for about a year now, however it is pretty short on the sides and back. Like, really short. And a cute fringe in the front. My hair's kind of curly, but I think if I hit it with the blow dryer in the morning it would be fine. I think I'm going to call up my hairdress... Fri, 29 Aug 2014 10:37:44 EST Day One Recap Good evening!

So today was my first day on the new plan and the Phentermine. At first I really didn't notice much, but when I realized that I had eaten about a third of what I normally would have and wasn't fixating on when I could eat again, I could tell it was doing its job. I had a little heartburn, but that could have just as easily been breakfast as the medication. I haven't noticed any nausea yet. I've had a couple of friends mention that as a side effect. I am glad that I l... Thu, 28 Aug 2014 21:21:14 EST My new Day One Weight: 341

My nutritionist, Carrie, is definitly a proponet of no food is truly off limits, and no food group should be excluded. That being said, for the first week or two, as kind of a system reboot, my new best friends are protein and veg. I am *temporarily* giving up starchy carbs and fruit. The general idea is to get my body back into the habit of tapping fat stores for energy instead of all the carbs I shovel into it. The one exception is my long run days for the 1/2 trainin... Wed, 27 Aug 2014 16:31:11 EST Chin Up and Carry On So I took a pretty big blow Friday afternoon at my set up appointment in the doctor's office where I'll be seeing a nutritionist. I've been sitting here thinking I'm going to finally get myself out of the 300's any day now, so stepping on that scale and seeing 344 was a massive shocker. I have just been gutted. I went out and bought a scale for my home yesterday because the one we did have wasn't reading correctly anymore, it would never settle in on a weight, just bounce around for a minute ... Mon, 25 Aug 2014 09:24:50 EST 11th Annual Movin' and Groovin' 8-23-2014 This was my second running of this race. The weather was kind of blah: low 70's, HUMID, and intermittent rain. Thankfully the rain stayed on hold while we were on the course. This race is primarily a trail run through a park, so it's a nice change of ppace from my road races. I actually almost stayed home. I woke with an upset tummy, so I ended up not eating at all, or drinking much before the race.

Despite all this, I was actually set to PR this race. Not by much, but it still co... Sat, 23 Aug 2014 20:27:05 EST Took the leap! I made an appointment for Friday to get started on a medically supervised nutrition/lifestyle program/counseling. A friend's roommate is the nutritionist and trainer for the program, and she put us in touch after I had kind of a mini-meltdown on facebook a few weeks ago. I spent some time getting my crap back together and working the nerve up, but I got back to her yesterday, and away we go!

I looked at their website after I made the appointment- this is a legitimate doctor's offi... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 09:57:16 EST August Fitness Assessment First of all- thanks everyone for all the support and comments on my office food blog. I'll make sure to make some time this afternoon and give you a personal thank you for stopping by!

I had my monthly check in with my trainer at the gym, so I thought I would put the numbers up from last month versus this month. It's good to have to look back on during the hard days.

Weight: July 322.8 August ... Fri, 15 Aug 2014 11:29:45 EST I am food shaming my office. I had some delicious oatmeal this morning, and my tummy will be satisfied until I eat my much anticipated butternut squash risotto that I made last night for lunch.

l.asp?recipe=294054

I got up to get some water and I find this has appeared:

234

Seriously?????

This is the fourth day in a row of s... Wed, 13 Aug 2014 11:15:53 EST Winging It I've been doing a lot of cooking lately, and sometimes I just don't feel like digging through dozens of recipes looking for one that strikes my fancy. So a couple of times now I've just decided to wing it and give making it from the top of my head a try. The three recipes I've tried so far are: black bean enchiladas, spinach bacon and feta quiche, and tuna noodle casserole. I know just enough about these things to get into trouble.
20

I pleasantly surprised myself... Tue, 12 Aug 2014 13:34:02 EST Productive weekend! I got a ton accomplished this weekend and I feel great!

Yesterday my contacts came in so I picked those up on my way to a yoga seminar. The seminar was a half hour shorter than anticipated and since we didn't actually practice, just held three poses; I jumped on a bike since I was already at the gym and dressed to work out! I did the 10k program for some active recovery because I ran Thursday then I walked three miles with my best friend Friday after work. I picked up subs on the ... Sun, 10 Aug 2014 18:38:41 EST Getting myself back together I've been in a little bit of a slump for the past week. Nothing major, just felt a little blah. I've been blaming some of it on the glasses. I kept putting off filling my contact prescription, and then one in my last set finally gave out, so I'm in glasses in the moment. I usually only wear them at night or on the weekends before I start moving around, so it's like a signal to my body that it's time to wind down at this point. Not to mention that exercising SUCKS in glasses. I don't know how ... Thu, 7 Aug 2014 11:34:56 EST Score one for organization! My car wouldn't start after work yesterday. We have towing through our insurance, so I called their roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck out my way. An hour and a half later, still no truck, so I called roadside assistance back and they called the driver and he said something about getting held up and he was right around the corner. FORTY minutes later I called roadside assistance again and while I was on hold for them to make another call to the driver, he showed up. No explanation,... Wed, 6 Aug 2014 11:05:42 EST Cat Care Weekend We had fleas a little while ago, and we had thought we had gotten the problem under control, but apparently not. I used the flea comb on the cats and got close to 30 fleas off of them, so we gave them a bath in Dawn ( if you didn't know, the regular old school blue Dawn kills fleas on contact!!) I ended up putting on a swimsuit and just climbing in the tub with the cats. Especially with my big boy, it's just easier to wrangle each one that way.

I did some reading and determined th... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 10:57:23 EST July 24, 2014 I feel better since I made an active, conscious effort with my food yesterday. Overall all, it was a good day. I came in at 2263 calories. My fat was a little high and that was because my dinner was delayed. The hubs called while I was heating the oven up and said he was running low on gas. He works 45 minutes away, and he thought he was going to make it home but just in case he may be calling me back from the side of the road. FYI- there are gas stations where he works. He doesn't work out i... Fri, 25 Jul 2014 09:06:02 EST I can do this, right? I followed up a GREAT C25k session (I nailed two intervals of just over half a mile a piece!!! Half a mile!!!!!) with a crappy step on the scale. I know that I have identified the areas that I think are causing me problems, and it's been all of like 24 hours; I'm just so annoyed with myself for getting so close and then letting it slip away.

I know, breathe. 29 I sholdn't let that stupid little thing upset me so much. It's not the boss of me! The good thing is, I have... Thu, 24 Jul 2014 09:42:53 EST The Neverending Journey Another day, another lesson. I think I was always aware of this, but it really kind of floated up to the forefront of my reasoning last night.

I was on a pretty good roll there for a second, and rapidly approaching a major milestone. And then I stalled out, and I've been kind of stuck on a plateau for a few weeks now. Lucky for me, I have had this realization about three weeks before my next check in with my trainer, so I have time to put a plan into action.

I usually ... Wed, 23 Jul 2014 10:38:51 EST Musical desks They've been moving us all around lately, and it's my little group's turn. Lucky me gets the desk right in front of our manager. Also in front of the landing area for when they bring in bagels, pizza, etc. I'm going to be stuck smelling all that food! Thankfully, it seems like there hasn't been as much food ordering lately. Needless to say, I'm not particuarly thrilled about any part of my new desk situation.

I'm totally going to get an air freshener so I can't smell the pizza goo... Fri, 11 Jul 2014 09:08:31 EST July weigh in The theme of this weekend was self-sabatoge. I don't really know why I do this sometimes. I know some of my eating was emotional eating. Some of it was probably hormone driven. And I was just laaaaazy!! It was just the perfect weekend to be out jogging, doing yard work, just being outdoors. We were in the 80's with minimal humidity, sunny, barely a cloud in the sky- perfect weather! Besides hitting the gym Friday morning, getting my hair cut and grocery shopping on Saturday, I don't think I ... Mon, 7 Jul 2014 08:56:49 EST Boot Camp 2014 Yesterday was the last day of our summer boot camp at the gym. I have very mixed feelings about it being over.

First, why I'm glad it's over. I'm exhausted. Pulling two work outs a day for four days of the week, and single work outs the other two has definitely worn me out! All the boot camp classes are in the evenings, and since I'm normally a morning exerciser, I maintained my regular work out schedule because I knew if I took the month off from the mornings, I would destroy all... Thu, 3 Jul 2014 11:00:19 EST Busy weekend This weekend I worked on getting the rest of the house unpacked. I got the half of the kitchen stuff we hadn't put away yet tackled, which subsequently cleaned out the dining room, since that's where all the kitchen boxes were. I also got half of the den cleared out in my quest to get all of my clothes out and hung in the closet. If I encountered a bag that wasn't clothes, I would just go ahead and get that put away too, so didn't have to do it next time. I'm hoping I can get the rest finish... Mon, 23 Jun 2014 10:42:38 EST Celebrate good times. I'm going to be out of the three's in nine pounds! I really need to take a second and celebrate that when it happens, but I have nooooo idea what to do! At least I have a couple of weeks to think of something! I haven't really rewarded myself before, usually when I try to think about it, all I see are the dollar signs attatched. I'm going to have to put a little aside or some such thing until it happens. How odd it's going to be. Fri, 20 Jun 2014 15:55:38 EST Boot Camp- Week 2, Day 3 Let's discuss the medieval torture known as planks, shall we? My boot camp class yesterday was a TRX session, and we did a purely core workout. It was brutal. It was all plank work. So in your mind, take a plank. Now, take your feet and suspend them in straps and envision the same plank. Yup. Do the same with side planks. That's right, I said suspended side planks. Here was the kicker. Lie on your back (supine) and put your heels in said straps. Leaving your upper back/shoulders pressed into ... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 10:47:41 EST So yesterday was fun I ran yesterday, finished up week 2 of my C25k program. The boot camp I'm doing this month had a class yesterday, but I couldn't get a slot in the class, so I really pushed it in the morning, since I knew I wouldn't be back later on.

Well, I got a call from the gym and someone had to cancel so I got into class! We did elliptical intervals. The basic run down is we did a minute fast on the elliptical, then hopped off and did 12 reps of a strength exercise with dumbbells. Then repea... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 10:27:29 EST Throwback Thursday Fun (I'm stealing this from a friend!) Cause that's how I roll. So I'm over here on my work computer trying to find the oldest serviceable pic on here. I wish I knew how to put two pictures side by side in a single image, it would be neat to do a comparison, even though I'm fairly convinced not much has changed. So, for your viewing pleasure, here are two pics from two and a half years ago when I was choosing my wedding dress:

<img src="http://ph... Thu, 12 Jun 2014 14:45:07 EST Connects Corporate 4-Miler This race is designed for teams from the same company to sign up together. It's billed as a way to make new contacts at your office and network with other professionals. Of course, you can sign up sans-team as well.

We had a guy in our office start a team, and there were about 17 of us from SunTrust out there. It was a beautiful evening- upper 70's, sunny/clear, no humidity- you couldn't ask for better weather!

The course was nice, and the miles felt like they went by r... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 10:16:14 EST WOO HOO!! So you all know I've been in the midst of a ridiculous plateau, like, all year. I weighed in last with my trainer on January 23rd at 338 pounds. Since then, I've floated anywhere between 345-327ish, mostly hanging out in the mid 330's, using the same scale each time- the one that lives in the locker room. It's been a very frustrating experience. Especially when people tell me they can really tell I've lost weight. I usually run around saying that people are lying to me, but I appreciate the t...
