It's basically a very strict Paleo diet. Meats, fruits, veggies, and nuts... No cheats or snacks made out of "whole 30 approved items" to make things like breads, pancakes, etc. I'm nervous and excited, lol. I wrote a post on Facebook that I was starting August 1st with a friend (I let her pick the date) and that I was making a FB group if anyone wanted to join us. I thought we might have a few friends join us. I was SHOCKED at how many... Fri, 18 Jul 2014 23:52:07 EST First Half-Marathon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5671592 I completed my first half-marathon today! I did the Gazelle Girl in Grand Rapids, MI. The money raised went to support 4 different charities, one being Girls on the Run. I thought it would be cool to have my first half-marathon be a women-only race.

I used the Hal Higdon Novice 2 training program (tweaking a few things~ like flipping a couple days around due to my work schedule, and a couple weeks I took out the 3 mile run so that I could get in some extra yoga, which saved my... Sun, 13 Apr 2014 23:01:10 EST It's almost here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5664619 I can't believe how quickly my half-marathon training has went! It's next Sunday! I *think* I'm ready. I ran 12.15 miles last week and did pretty well. I did stop twice to stretch my hamstrings. They were feeling tight. I don't think I had enough water the day before. Tomorrow is my last "long run"- running 8 miles with a friend. Then next week I only have a 2, 3, and 2 mile run.

I'm already thinking about what I want to do differently next time. This time I used Hal Higd... Fri, 4 Apr 2014 21:26:53 EST Running Buddy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5655647 I've always thought of myself as a "lone runner"~ liked to run by myself, didn't want to slow someone else down, or be embarrassed if I couldn't run as far as them. We started a running group through our church a couple months ago, and I lead the "intermediate" group. Our group runs 2-3 miles, at about a 10:30-12 minute pace depending on the runner (we don't all run side by side). Through the group, I discovered a friend that is similar to my speed. The first week I pretty much ran by mys... Mon, 24 Mar 2014 19:37:58 EST Half-Marathon Training Update! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5649165 My first half-marathon is one month from today! My training has been going pretty well... I've had the "normal" aches and pains that come with training... But I am pushing through it. Motrin and ice have become my best friends, lol! It's funny how one area heals then another sore area pops up 24 .

I did my first 10 mile run the other day. It was pretty tough. I had a few things "going against me" but didn't let them stop me. My left IT band was really tight at f... Sun, 16 Mar 2014 13:47:09 EST Running Group at Church! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5612885 My husband and I started a new running group at church. It's for ALL levels, a great way to introduce people to the LOVE of running and for them to meet new friends. Yesterday was our first group meeting. We weren't sure how many would sign since it was snowing pretty good, but we had about 25-26 runners! We have all different levels. Some have never ran a day in their life, others have done marathons. We made 3 "teams": beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The intermediate did a wal... Sun, 2 Feb 2014 09:58:10 EST Half-MarathonTraining http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5603685 This is the "official" first week of my half-marathon training! I am using the Hal Higdon "Novice 2" training plan. I was going to use "Novice 1" but it didn't have very much running, and it only goes up to 10 miles for a long run. Since I am running by myself and won't have anyone to push me that last 3.1 miles, I figured I better train a little closer to the mileage of the race!

Wouldn't you know that once I signed up (and paid, lol) to run the 1/2 that it ends up being the co... This group is for women who want to grow stronger physically and spiritually. We want to take care of our bodies as the Temple of God!

Here's the challenge:

1. Daily Bible reading
2. Track food (write it down, myfitnesspal, sparkpeople, etc~ whichever works for you!)
3. Exercise at least 4 days a week
4. Well, I am now signed up for TWO. How'd that happen?!?! 40 My husband did the Detroit Free Press Marathon last year and was wanting to do it again this year. He said this time he wasn't sure if he wanted to take the kids, so I said "Maybe I'll do the half then." Later, he was looking up pricing and saw that the fees were much cheaper to sign up this week than to do it later (the cost goes up the clo... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 13:27:19 EST Happy New Year! I love New Year's~ it reminds me of the new beginnings and fresh starts that God gives us every day! Kind of like a "do-over" ;-) When the boys were little and were acting up, we'd tell them to push their "do-over" button (they usually pushed on their foreheads, lol) and it was amazing that it really did work. They started acting more obedient. I'm sure God feels the same way about us! He doe... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 20:26:38 EST Half-Marathon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5576150 After over a year and a half of not running due to a hip injury, I have finally been able to run 312 again without pain (yay!) I'm running about 4 miles, 2-3 days a week (starting slow so that I don't re-injure myself!) I found a link on Facebook about a month ago for a women-only half marathon 366 that is on April 13th. I decided to sign up for it! I already had a group on there called "Total Fitness: Mind, Body, and Soul" but I wanted to make a page where I could share articles, diets, workouts, etc that would be public. I am hoping that it will also be a good way to start Health Coaching! Sun, 1 Dec 2013 18:47:09 EST Turkey Trot 2013 (with pictures!) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5553726 This was our first year doing a 5K as a family, and we figured what better race than a Turkey Trot! We found one in Ann Arbor, MI (my husband's favorite city, he's a HUGE UofM fan!) We decided that my husband would run with our youngest son (Josh) and I would run with our oldest (Adam). Adam has juvenile arthritis, so we were unsure how much he would be running for it. I was just praying that we would finish the race (even if it was by walking most of the race!)

We headed to An... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 21:41:58 EST Cathe Friedrich's XTrain DVD set http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5543337 I started Cathe Friedrich's DVD program: XTrain. I got a great deal on Amazon for $74 for 9 DVDs! It's about $100 on her site. I'm a week and a half into it and am loving it! It's very strength-training focused. There are some cardio workouts, but only a couple times a week. Mainly it's focused on weights. There are a couple bi's and tri's workouts, a couple chest/back/shoulders, two core workouts... You can do a 30 or 90 day program. I decided to do the 90 day program. I'm already... Mon, 4 Nov 2013 23:48:05 EST Weight Watchers Week 2 and Work Stuff... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5530057 My plan was to go to Weight Watchers this past Wednesday to weigh in, but my youngest was home sick that day so it didn't work out... I ended up going on Thursday. I almost didn't go that day since it was my husband's day off and I had to work on Friday (his other day off) but he said he didn't mind. I "lost" 1.2 pounds, however I don't think it was an actual "loss." The week before I had a full glass of water and worked out, and this time I went on an empty stomach and hadn't worked out ... Sat, 2 Nov 2013 12:53:52 EST Weight Watchers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5526915 Lately I've been noticing my weight going up and down a few pounds... However the last few weeks, it's been stuck in the "up" position... It's been worrying me since the holidays are coming, and I've just felt like the extra pounds wouldn't budge. I've been a "lifetime member" of Weight Watchers for 3.5 years. I stopped attending the monthly meetings and weigh ins a little over a year ago. At the time, I wasn't counting points (they had recently switched their points system and I was so ... We went up on Wednesday evening to stay in a hotel in Mackinaw City since it's a 4.5 hour drive from here. The next morning, we got up early and took the ferry over to Mackinac Island for the conference! The conference was at the Grand Hotel, which is usually VERY expensive, but they run a really good rate for the conference. It was $170/person (if you stayed 4 in a room) which included the conference... I know I'm biased, but he is one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet. Smart, funny, caring and kind. He's always gotten all "4's" in elementary (they score 1-4 instead of grades, a 4 is the equivalent of an "A" and means that they are "above grade level." This is his first year in Middle School (5th grade).

He had made some comments about not liking one of his teachers (who teaches two of his classes) but I just kind of blew the comment... I don't always click on videos, but for some reason today I did. It was a man speaking affirmations over women. As I was first listening to it, I thought "Ok, that's nice...." However, as it went on, the speech became more powerful. I sat down and *really* listend to the words he was saying.

At one point, he said "You are more than the number o... Fri, 27 Sep 2013 09:52:05 EST Adam's 13th Birthday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5490665 My oldest son Adam turns 13 this Sunday. We have a HUGE church picnic that day that my husband is in charge of (and I am in charge of all of the decorating). We're thinking it could be anywhere from 600-800 people (we have almost 1300 people in the church). Anyways, since we are going to be SO busy with that, we decided to celebrate Adam's birthday as a family today (I work till 11pm tomorrow).

We had a few ideas of what to get Adam, but what he REALLY wanted was a Macbook compu... Thu, 19 Sep 2013 22:46:54 EST Work hours update... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5478273 Yesterday I made a whole "pro's and con's list" of the possibility of the new hours at work (9am-5:30pm instead of the 10:30am-11pm shift that I work now). I was praying and I felt that God was telling me to quit being fearful, to take a leap of faith and put my trust in HIM, not in a piece of paper that says I have "paid vacation leave." During that prayer, He made it clear to me what my answer would be if I was offered the job.

Today my manager came up to me and said "The pos... I currently work 2 12-hour shifts a week (10:30am-11:00pm) along with doing about 64 hours of call a month. Call can be so hit or miss. You might be there the whole time, or on a rare occasion not get called in at all.

When I first started in the recovery room, I worked 7:30am-8:00pm, 3 days a week (plus call). I went to the Gull Lake "Ladies Days" conference and was able to meet one of my favorite authors (Sheri Rose Shepherd, author of "Fit for My King"). I briefly told her the first night how her book impacted the way that I eat and how I see myself. I had a horrible body image before and saw myself at least 20-30# heavier than I actually was.

After hearing her message on the first night, I felt God telling me to give her a copy of the booklet... Today's really spoke to me. She talked about being too busy and spreading yourself so thin that you can't do the things that God has called you to do... We had a fun weekend celebrating his birthday, so I thought I'd share some pictures with all of you.

Josh has always been hard to buy for. This is such a great reminder for all of us. I have been contemplating whether to pursue something bigger with my passion for fitness and nutrition. I'm still in the "research" part of it. I know that I'm helping several women through my Facebook page/group, but I always wonder if I should be doing MORE. Is that enough? Can I make a business out of it... My friend has been going faithfully and invited me to with her. The only thing is that it's at 5:25AM, Mon-Fri. The only day that I can really go is on Thursdays, since it's my husband's rest day from the gym, so he is able to get our oldest son up for school. I felt kind of ba... Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. This morning there was a spinning class that I wanted to try. In all the years that I had belonged to the Y, I had never tried spinning! For some reason, I was always too intimidated! Sun, 24 Mar 2013 11:01:00 EST "Remember who you are" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5289172 The other day I was thinking about what Lysa TerKeurst said in her book "Made to Crave." She said she always told her kids "remember who you are." Then she tells the reader to "remember who you are" and that you are a "Jesus Girl." I love that. It's so important. People are constantly judging us as Christians, and even though it might not seem fair, it's just how it is. We need to remember who we are (and Who we belong to!) It's easy to lash back at someone who isn't treating you right... I went to that one first and really liked it, but it's hard because it's in the evenings (5:30-6:30pm) so it interrupts family time. She also teaches a boot camp/butts and guts class on Saturday mornings from 10:30am-12:00pm. I've been to those a couple times. It was funny because last week she had me s... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 22:59:27 EST Another essay that I wrote for church... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5234701 Here's another essay that I wrote for church that I wanted to share with all of you. It's about how I do my quiet time/prayer/Bible reading...

Sword of the Spirit
I love to journal my prayers. I get my Bible out, a favorite notebook, a pen and start reading God’s Word. A few years ago, I discovered a new way of journaling my prayers that I still use today. It is called the “S.O.A.P.” method. It stands for: Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. In my journal, ... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 16:47:21 EST Essay Entry for Church http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5218859 Our senior pastor is putting a booklet out for the church and asked each pastor and his wife to write an essay. He had a list of topics to choose from. The theme is called "Bootcamp" and my topic was "the breastplate of righteousness." I was supposed to describe how Christ has given me a new identity. I wrote and turned mine in, but wanted to share it here, too:

I’m one of those crazy people who love to workout. So when I hear the word “bootcamp” I get a little excited.... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 16:00:16 EST Peak10 Week 6 Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5196861 I am in my 6th week of the Peak10 workout series. Still LOVING it! My weight hasn't changed a whole lot, but I am definitely noticing more muscle definition and my jeans feel loose. 9 224

I recommend this workout to anyone looking for a DVD program that includes everything you need: cardio, strength, cardio/strength, flexibility training, and core work. The workouts are fun, Michelle Dozios (the instructor) is very motivating, and the time goes pretty ... Tue, 8 Jan 2013 11:43:20 EST Sundays: Prep Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5193301 Sundays have always been my "prep day" for the upcoming week. I do laundry, ironing, cut up any fruits/veggies in the fridge, make sure my work bag is set (I always take a bag with me to work that has snacks, magazines, books, Ibuprofen, gum, etc since I am there for at least 12 hours. I like to have extra stuff "just in case"- it's become kind of a joke at work that I bring so much stuff, but you never know! LOL!) Since I work every Monday, I make sure to make an extra meal (or something... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 14:58:38 EST Day 1 of Peak313 New Years Challenge! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5181434 Today was day 1 of the Peak313 Spark Team Challenge. I am still getting over being sick, but doing WAY better than yesterday. I was actually able to cook lunch AND dinner for my family. The boys had been eating things like pizza rolls, which they were more than happy to eat, but I wanted them to have something with a little more nutrition 211

Even with being sick, I have stayed within my calories (actually less than normal). I track my food on the myfitnesspal app.... Sun, 30 Dec 2012 21:42:01 EST Peak10 Update (Week 4) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5177886 Just wanted to post a quick update on my Peak10 workouts. I still LOVE it! I'm halfway through week 4. Although the scale has "only" changed by 2.5 lbs, I can tell that I am getting tighter since all of my jeans are now too big. The only downfall to that is that I HATE jean shopping, lol! But still a good thing, so I guess I will just need to schedule a day to go do a little shopping. Until then: BELTS.

Michelle Dozios (instructor of Peak10) is very energetic and encouragin...
