Small things have made me feel just incredibly angry--luckily I've been realizing what's happening, and am trying to "check myself" before flying off the handle. Lots of stressful things are happening right now--new work responsibilities, and I'm going to meet with my parents next month to try to work through some really difficult relationship stuff that's been going on for a few years now. These things are probably what's been causin... Fri, 12 Feb 2010 11:38:35 EST Resistance to Change? Blame the Universe! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2831683 So, I finally got some free moments at work to write a blog, and update you all on my life, and progress.

First, I heard this GREAT commentary on NPR a few weeks ago, about how Resistance to Change or in other words--INERTIA--is built into our universe. Really put some of this stuff in perspective, and also got me thinking that if I can build up enough momentum behind my healthy lifestyle, it'll be much more hard to stop being healthy, than to start being slovenly. LOL.
"We ... It's good to be busy!!

Anyways, I wanted to share some amazing Snowshoeing adventures that a few friends and I did last weekend. I had so much fun, it didn't feel like exercise at all, how cool is that?

It was freezing when we first got to Northerly Island, an island park on Chicago's Michigan shore:
... I saw this picture on FitSugar the other day, and I thought, GEEZ, if I had kept going on my old unhealthy habits, this is what I would look like in a few years:

Yuck! I haven't written a blog entry in a what feels like a REALLY long time--so I wanted to just do a quick update:

My healthy lifestyle has been mediocre for the month of December. Between my brother's visit, holiday parties, and the actual holidays--time for exercise was squeezed, and I didn't always make the best choices with food/drinks.

Believe it or not, I'm not worried. I've continued to use the Spark to track, and I'm hoping that my weight will be down overa... Things have been crazy at work this last week, and I'm actually going to be heading home VERY soon--BUT I wanted to update you all fine SparkFriends. ;-)

Here's my confession:
I kind of lost some of my steam since I ran the Santa Shuffle on December 5th.
Some symptoms:
I only managed to work out 3 times last week, instead of my usual 6.
I went WAAAY over my calories on Saturday and Sunday. I am sooo glad I did it!

Okay, race-day re-cap:

Woke up at 6:30 a.m., I was so nervous, I just couldn't sleep anymore. I cleaned up the apartment, and then Jenn & I left for the race.

Weather-wise, we were at freezing temperatures, but the sun was shining so nicely. When am I going to get there?!?"

Are these kinds of thoughts motivating? Are they helpful? Will they make the weight go faster? Last week's Wednesday felt great! It was a celebration to finally be out of the 170's, to finally be at a healthy BMI, I had lost (SURPRISE!) 5 POUNDS! Insane, but it felt soo good to finally see some huge scale movement. This morning though, I saw some big scale movement too--in the other direction. 39 Gained 4 lbs back. Last week 166, this week 170.

Ironically, today I started a new "Lif... Wed, 18 Nov 2009 10:37:04 EST 5K Commitment, Long Work Days, Finally Healthy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2559065 I had a pretty good week this week. Things at work are still pretty chaotic, and I've been working long days.

The tickets that were lost last week are still lost this week. Kind of sad, but in a way it's freeing, because now I don't feel obligated to go see all of those movies.

In other news, I had a nice big loss this week. My BMI is officially in the healthy range(!), but I still have a lot of work to do. It's extremely motivating, and I'm committed to making healt... Things have been incredibly hectic and busy lately--working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and I CANNOT wait for the weekend.

I'm kind of p.o.'d right now, it's been a really rough week. My company is a sponsor of Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Reeling, and one my contacts in Public Relations sent me VIP passes through inter-office mail. It is sooo good. Some of my favorite beers are 312, Skinny Dip, basically any kind of Hefeweizen! And one of the main reasons for my gut. This is the first Light wheat beer that I know of, and I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think you'd get it confused with its full-calorie, micro-brewed sisters; but it stands on it's own as... Tue, 27 Oct 2009 17:45:11 EST 25 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2502702 Hi SparkUniverse,

I turned 25 years old today--kind of crazy. I guess I never really have envisioned myself getting older, and now all of a sudden, I'm what some people may call an "adult". LOL.

Instead of looking back on these past 25 years, I'm going to actually write down some of my hopes and goals for the next 25. These are hope/goals that seem a bit out of reach to me, but maybe by writing them down, I will be able believe and achieve.

- Grow old with... I've also been doing my calorie differential over time. Today, I added special markers for days I had a positive differential, and I was shocked. I haven't been as consistent lately as I should be! Crazy how graphs make you see things in a different light. I WAS under the impression that I was on a plateau, but CLEARLY, I need to be more consistent with my eating. Today is a new day.

Gra... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 15:22:39 EST Quick Brain Dump http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2484181 Hey SparkUniverse,

Work has been very busy lately, so I haven't been doing so much random internet stuff like posting blog entries on Spark. LOL. But I just thought I'd do a quick brain dump of all that's been going on this past week:

1) I lost a lb! Woohoo! It was getting depressing that my weight hadn't moved in two weeks, but it moved, and I'm PUMPED! Funny how a single digit can be sooo motivating at the right moment.
2) I have a cold, and it's not fun. ... Fri, 16 Oct 2009 14:49:46 EST A Little Down, But Not Out! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2465693 I woke up early today, and did an hour of cardio before work. It felt GREAT!!

I am kind of disappointed in myself that I didn't get out of bed yesterday morning to workout, and didn't make up for it after work either. At least for me, if I don't get it done in the morning, there's no guarantee I'll be able to work out after work. Not only that, but I went over my range again.

Today was a new day, and I'm in the saddle again. I think I'm in the "danger zone" right n... Fri, 9 Oct 2009 11:48:46 EST Re-baselining the Plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2460517 I'm a Project Manager by trade, and I'm beginning to think that there's a lot of parallels between this process and managing a project.

What really made me think about it is that all the time, projects are delayed, go over-budget, or develop what is called "scope creep".

Delay: This has definitely happened with my plan. My goal was to be at 165 lbs. by October 23rd, and when I set the goal it was SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound). ... It was the first accident that I've ever been in, and I was kind of hysterical. My wonderful little 2005 Pontiac Vibe is now a bit smashed up in the front, and an insurance adjuster is coming out today to assess the damage. :-P

So, needless to say, we didn't go back to the farm this weekend, and I never made it to that fun boardgame night.

This weekend ended up being the first truly lazy weekend I've had in a loong time... Despite going over a few days this week, I'm still 2.4 lbs. down. Sweet!

Then I put on some clothes, and worked out.

Day 1 of Week 2 of Spark to 5K kicked my butt this morning. Wed, 30 Sep 2009 13:59:53 EST Eating 'n Drinking http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2438241 In the past week, I've not been doing so hot at keeping my calories down. Nothing insane, just fifty or a hundred calories over my range. I think some of it's because I'm trying to learn how to incorporate some healthy fats into my diet, and it's pretty easy to get over your calorie range with those Fat Grams. My goal for the rest of the week is to be IN my calorie range!

In other news, I just bought tickets for my brother and I to go to the Bulls/Lakers game in December. I'm ... We were dancing around, the music was blow your ears off loud, and the HUGE crowd added to the atmosphere. They were amazing performers, and the lighting design was awesome. Lots of strobes, and spots that pulsed with the music.

I was out until midnight, which is really late for me especially on a weeknight. So I started the "Spark to 5k" walk/jog program this morning.

I'm planning of keeping track of where I am in the program here, so here goes:

Week 1, Day 1: Walk 4 minutes, Run 1 minute for 30 minutes. So not much pics of the new apartment. We kind of have a whole house to ourselves: my gf and I have the first floor, and my girlfriend's best friend and his boyfriend live upstairs. It's soo nice not living with strangers anymore. And that makes our backyard even more enjoyable!

We had a firepit and christmas lights up outside:

<img src="http://pho... About 50 minutes in, I started to feel kind of nauseous. I REALLY wanted to do the full 60 minutes, so I pushed myself to finish.

Big mistake. I had to lie on the floor for 15 minutes before I could finally keep my stomach under control. Yuck. Then a really weird thing happened, I started to have a sneezing fit for ten minutes. Just constant "Achoos!". I'm NEVER doing that again. If... I bought a stability ball (with a plug this time!) and a resistance band this weekend. It came with two DVD workouts, and I braved one of them last night. Yikes! I was soo sweaty, and I'm pretty sore today. The DVD has 3 20 minute work-outs (Lower Body, Upper Body, and Abs), I was going to be amazing, and do all three last night, but I made it through the Upper Body, and decided to call it quits for the evening.
