The last time I went to anything they had around here for the holidays was probably 20 years ago. This one wasn't as good, with not too many lights in the butterfly section, but had some interesting things there. There is a room with scorpions and tarantulas that were glowing in the kind of lights they had on them. The next room has sea creatures. Those were really interesting. One of them would blow out som... Sun, 8 Jan 2017 20:37:12 EST Stress Buster Today was just a stressful day for me. It started out good, with me finding out that the farmers market at Human Services was there today. From there, downhill. I finally gave up and headed for the mountains with Cassie. I really didn't take the right routes for seeing the aspen colors (no aspen at first). Then I turned off on a loop south of the highway and found some aspen. Not a lot, but some. The drive, however, got me feeling better.

On the way out, I stopped at this be... Mon, 3 Oct 2016 23:34:37 EST With my Lord's help I have tried so many times to lose weight and get healthier, but I'm always having to start over. I need to get control of my diabetes, but I have such a sweet tooth and once I eat something I end up eating more and more of it. So I am asking my Lord to help me with this sin of gluttony. Help me to be contented with a small portion of sweet, or with fruit that would satisfy. I wish to keep Jesus foremost in my mind, rather than trying to satisfy myself with food or some other worldly thin... Fri, 4 Sep 2015 21:25:59 EST Botanic Gardens Visit I spent an enjoyable day at the Denver Botanic Gardens today. An adventure getting down there since they didn't have any parking places. I took the buses going down and didn't know where to get the second bus. Finally found a lady who knew where the stop was and talked with her for a while. Reached the gardens a little after it started raining, so spent a while inside waiting out the rain. Then walked through just about all the gardens and took quite a few pictures. The special event th... Wed, 22 Jul 2015 01:19:54 EST Garden Prep day Today my neighbor tilled my garden plot so it would be good and deep. It wore me out just watching him try to get that rototiller through there.

So the garden is a little clumpy, but a lot better than it would have been otherwise. We added garden soil and compost and he tilled that in, too. So this is how it looks now:
<img src=" Sat, 6 Jun 2015 20:55:55 EST 1/10/15 - National Western Stock Show Today a friend and I attended the National Western Stock Show. I had a great time and hope to go back on the free day they are having in a couple of weeks. Today we saw the babies -- Alpacas, lambs, pigs, and goats.

After a barbecue lunch we went to the stadium where they were having a Llama and Alpaca meet where everyone... Sun, 11 Jan 2015 02:07:09 EST Toys for Puppies and Kitties Saturday I went to a class at the library where we made beds and toys for the cats at the Dumb Friends League shelter in Denver and Castle Rock. I got a bed made and one toy. I was going to make more toys, but couldn't find one of the parts, so I took some of the materials home. I also brought home the scraps from beds. The instructor made a dog toy or two with that, so I decided it would be easy enough for me to do. So I made 4 cat toys:
<img src=" Wed, 17 Dec 2014 22:27:26 EST How do they get those pictures to come out I've been watching some of the painting shows on public TV today and it is amazing how they come up with the pictures they do. When some of them start out it doesn't look like you would ever be able to tell that they are doing a landscape or whatever they are doing. Then they end up with something that is really pretty and often don't even have a picture or three to look at to get things right. Of course, I know they have done a lot more painting than most people, so have more experience s... Sat, 8 Nov 2014 19:36:29 EST Green Chili Time

The garden center I have been going to this year started roasting green chili this year and to go along with that idea they had a Green Chili Cookoff today. It took me a while to decide to enter, but I thought it would be a fun thing to do, so I made some chili to see if I could get a good taste and entered. It took me a little researching to see what they have in different recipes, but I mainly stuck with what I... Sat, 18 Oct 2014 20:21:22 EST Nice day Today was such a beautiful day. Sunny and warm after weeks of rain and yesterday's cold after a night with snow mixed in the rain. I did some shopping and then got Cassie and we went for a walk. They were playing softball at the high school, so we stopped to watch for a while. Those girls were pretty good. Then we went to the park in back of the school because I was pretty sure my neighbor had gone there so her daughter could play at the playground. I just wanted to go sit and watch Luc... Sat, 13 Sep 2014 21:56:06 EST Paint-a-Thon Today the volunteers for the Paint-a-Thon came and painted my house. The outside of the house got half painted 7 or 8 years ago and that has been where it stayed. A few months ago I saw something about the Paint-a-Thon so I applied for it and was surprised that I got acccepted, but very happy about it. So the main color is Oatmeal, which matches the gutter and downspouts, and the trim is brown.

Early in the da... Sat, 16 Aug 2014 18:09:15 EST 2014 Garden, July 31 My garden isn't that far along since it kept snowing off and on completely through May, so it wasn't planted until the 1st week in June (seems to happen every year). Last Sunday I went to a class on extending the life of your garden and I am going to try to build a couple of the things they showed there for next year. Meanwhile, this is what I have now.

My tomatoes are pretty well grown, but no fruit quite yet. At the class he told us that we need to prune the bottom 12-18 inch... Thu, 31 Jul 2014 13:42:51 EST Who deserves to live? Yesterday I read something by a person who doesn't feel that anyone who cannot find a job or cannot work because of physical problems deserves to eat. It was from a person who determines whether a person deserves to have a job and, from her posts lately, cannot figure out who will actually do the work they are hired for. Her husband also decides who deserves to make a living, even though they have experience in a similar job and will instead hire someone who never even applied for the job. ... Sun, 20 Jul 2014 05:22:24 EST June 18 2014 - Official Oncology end Eight years ago, just before my birthday, I found out that I had Ovarian Cancer. So a couple weeks later I had major surgery for it. The doc got it all, though I did have to go through chemo and radiation -- the radiation because it was not only Ovarian cancer, but started as Uterine cancer and had progressed to stage 4. I've never been a very positive person, but for some reason I was very positive about beating this cancer. I also had a message from The Lord that I was going to be all-r... Thu, 19 Jun 2014 17:21:16 EST Day 1 of Passion Play 2014 Tonight we had our first performance of the Passion Play - He's Alive. Not a big crowd due to the weather -- snow and cold and icy roads -- but had quite a few. The going was a bit tough on the way there since the snow was coming heavy enough I couldn't see far, but got there in plenty of time. We had dinner before the play started.

The play seemed to go pretty well as far as I could tell. Of course, I couldn't see it unless the crowd was in the scene. I did get a bit nervous ... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 01:13:09 EST Birthday, April 8 2014 Yesterday I celebrated my birthday having lunch with a friend and later taking a class in making a birdbath using a grapevine wreath and terracotta saucer. Lunch didn't stay with my eating plan, but it was so good. We went to a Mexican restaurant and I had one of their combination plates that served for both lunch and dinner. I also splurged on a sopapilla. So had 6 Beano since most of that meal had something that might cause problems. Won't do that too often.

I've found sever... Wed, 9 Apr 2014 15:28:41 EST Surprise for me today I really haven't lost enough weight for this to happen. I found a few weeks ago I could get into one pair of my Wrangler Auras. It is the only pair I have that size. I have 5 or 6 pairs the next size down. The pair I have been wearing end up getting stretched in the waist and I have them hanging on my hips. Today I just got curious how much more it was going to have to take to get in the other size. So I pulled out a pair and tried them on. They are a little tight and hard to get faste... Sat, 5 Apr 2014 18:34:52 EST Beautiful Day - 3/9/2014 Today was such a beautiful day. At 5:00 the temperature was still 68. It's been cool so much of the time and my gut acting up, but today it was warm, sunny and I felt great. So Cassie and I went on a nice walk. It wasn't a long walk compared to most people's, but for us it was long. We were tired by the time we got home, but the day was so nice we stayed outside for at least another hour.

Tomorrow is supposed to be warm and sunny again and I am hoping we can get out again befo... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 20:28:53 EST Cheesecake Disaster I have been craving cheesecake for a few weeks, so looking for ways to make it low carb. I finally found a recipe to start with, dropping the crust and substituting Truvia for the Nutrasweet they called for. I set everything up, put my cheese in a mixing bowl and on the mixer stand. I fixed the gelatin mixture to put in it. Then I turned on the mixer to whip the cheese and ingredients other than the gelatin mixture. Nothing. Tried again. Nothing. So I was hitting the end of the mixer ... Sun, 9 Mar 2014 00:23:25 EST Hoping it's not a fluke I am hoping that today's weight isn't a fluke and isn't from disease. I have lost 4 pounds in the last week, 6 pounds this month since the 4th. I have been mainly trying to keep my carbs pretty low because my A1c was high. I haven't really paid that much attention to anything else. There was smoked sausage on sale, so I got a couple of them. Still, I lost that weight. This morning when I saw the loss I thought maybe I could get my Wrangler Auras on, even though it might mean I would hav... Sun, 16 Feb 2014 23:19:30 EST The Passion Play practices are starting I have never done anything like trying out for any kind of play, but after I messaged my friend about how lonely I always was she said I should come to the practices and see if I could do anything in the play. I wasn't thinking that I could actually be IN the play, but maybe help with something there. But they did need people for the crowd, so I was in there for that. They were doing tryouts for speaking parts and I actually thought of trying one, but one of the other women really wanted t... Sat, 15 Feb 2014 00:24:56 EST Cassie and I Celebrate 1 year Today I have had Cassie for one year. I didn't really expect I would have another dog at that point. I had lost my Venture early in December and was interested in eventually finding a certain type of dog -- one with a certain temperament. My friend I called who I knew studied bloodlines a lot and not only the conformation, but the temperament and working ability had a little girl who needed a place to go where she could be loved and give love.

Cassie has really been wonderful ... Mon, 27 Jan 2014 17:55:04 EST Fear of success I watched the Biggest Loser last night and got thinking about this when Jen was talking to Jillian about fear of success and what she had always thought. I am thinking that this is my problem, too. A couple years ago I got down several pounds (not anywhere near goal), then got stalled and just started eating again. There are some times I feel like why trying because it isn't going to help me any. I still get all the bad things going on. But the fear of success might also be there because... Wed, 15 Jan 2014 17:29:18 EST Jan 4, 2014 I have been cleaning my refrigerator today and trying to keep warm. I get aggravated at how when you bring meat home it leaks out of the package and runs along all the shelves in the fridge. Then, too, if you have frozen it and pull it out to thaw, it leaks THROUGH the freezer bag. So I am having to pull everything out and clean all the shelves. The bottom one where the fruit and veggie crispers hang on is almost impossible to get out and worse to get back in because my door doesn't open ... Sat, 4 Jan 2014 22:35:30 EST Jan 3 2014 New year and another try. I am trying the Good Belly Challenge to try to get rid of the IBS at least enough to be able to do things. I am also trying to walk Cassie, but it is getting hard because it keeps getting so cold out and I can't handle the cold. The other thing is I am trying to get some things cleaned up around here, so a half hour working on that.

Today I did take Cassie for a walk. She gets so excited that she will pull me all over the place. I don't think she had ... Fri, 3 Jan 2014 18:07:18 EST That Darn Cat No, not the movie one. Mine. Orzo. He sleeps just about all the time. If possible it is in my lap or on top of me in the bed. Or next to my head. But if I am trying to sleep he decides it is time to get up. Usually around 3 or 4 in the morning. No wonder I get sleepy during the day. Yesterday and today he came in and started getting in my face again. Yesterday I just kept having to move him back down in the bed. He was pretty insistent, though. I finally got up and went in to get ... Sat, 19 Oct 2013 12:01:39 EST Good eye news I had a check on my eye that I had surgery on today. The doctor said it is doing really well and the gas bubble is disintigrating so will probably be gone between 2-3 weeks from now. What was really neat, though, was after the top and bottom of that big letter E at the top of the eye chart jumped in and out of focus, I actually saw the entire E. Before the surgery I couldn't see it at all. I also found out what they did to get the macular hole to close. I just couldn't understand how the... Wed, 9 Oct 2013 19:05:14 EST How does my garden grow I don't have the largest amount of veggies from my garden and not much of the seeds grew anything, but I am pretty happy with what I got. I have been trying to get tomatoes and chili peppers for several years, but only got 2 tomatoes each year. This year I have cherry tomatoes, Early Girl tomatoes and Beefsteak tomatoes and the Early Girl and Cherry are ripening. I have a few Anaheim Peppers and a couple Big Jim peppers. Not quite ready to pick yet. So I thought I'd put in some pictures.... Tue, 3 Sep 2013 16:08:35 EST My first garden produce I recognize some plants, but not all. My pumpkin and squash all look alike. I also bought one canteloupe and grew a couple from seed and everything there looks like the squash plants and I don't know if they are supposed to or not. But I have been waiting for some canteloupe to show up. Today I picked my first produce from that plant. I spotted it yesterday when I was looking at the garden and looking for some sign I would get a couple pumpkins or canteloupe. So this is what I got from ... Mon, 5 Aug 2013 14:56:51 EST Saturday, 7/27 It was a really nice day today. I got a screen door sold, then took Cassie to a benefit flea market that my friend had a booth at. It was a benefit for The Passion Play of Denver that is put on every year between Palm Sunday and Easter. Most booths had used things. At one booth I found a book of Helen Steiner Rice things for children (at least I think it is a children's book) and an old fashioned piggy bank -- the kind that fits together in the middle and you have to unscrew it to get it ... Sat, 27 Jul 2013 23:41:25 EST July 24/25 Wednesday I had an appointment with my Oncologist to get the results of my CT scan. I don't have any return of the cancer I had 7 years ago. He gave me a copy of the report along with the lab results, so I can see where there are some problems, but not serious at this time. I have a problem drinking water, though, and asked him about that since I am getting stomach aches when I drink it. He said to just sip it throughout the day because the scar tissue is causing a problem. He also said ... Thu, 25 Jul 2013 23:41:39 EST June 30 I got out to see Fancy again. She had finally shedded quite a bit of fur, but still had a lot so I body clipped her. Didn't do too got a job, but at least she won't be as hot. I got quite a bit of walking in getting things ready. I didn't know where the outlets were, to plug in the clippers, so that was one trip to the indoor barn and back. Then I went and got the clippers (trip 2) and then went back and got Fancy (trip 3). I ran into Monty and found out there was a better place to clip... Mon, 1 Jul 2013 14:26:08 EST Very disappointed I have seen many blogs where people have just written about something they have done, enjoyed or what has been wrong in their day. I guess I don't know what the blogs are about at all. It seems to be okay if I put something in there that is depressing, but put something in where I enjoyed something and it was interesting and I get attacked.

Yesterday I wrote about going on The Creation Tour and some of the things they talked about and we saw. I never said that Creationism was sc... Fri, 21 Jun 2013 19:56:12 EST The Creation Tour Today I went with a group from church to The Creation Tour at Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs. That was an interesting program. They told how the layers of earth were formed after the flood, how the larger stones and smaller stones were moved into place. They showed in the video the fossils and how the fish fossils in places like Wyoming still had all the fins on them, so they couldn't have sat and rotted over a long period of time.

They talked about the rock from a volcano in H... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 23:34:03 EST June 9 I was finally able to go out and see Fancy after church. Boy was it hot and I have black jeans. I think I am allergic to some of that heat because my ankles were itching like crazy.

I should have moved Fancy to that ranch a long time before I did. She loves it there. Yesterday I got a scare when I got there, but I decided that she had probably been moved to another pen or they had her inside for some reason. I headed over to the house to find out where she was and found out th... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 14:19:58 EST Workout for Saturday Just thought I'd post what I did today that was a 3 hour workout for me. I am not too good with the mowing at this stage and I know that others would do this yard in just an hour, but it takes me a while and the hills don't make it too easy for me.

This is from one corner of the porch.

This is the other side of the upper terrace.

<img src=" Sat, 8 Jun 2013 20:24:15 EST Keep feeling weak The last few weeks I have felt weak in my legs, particularly. I keep wondering if it is what I eat or something else. I know I have had more carbs than I should, but would that make my legs weak? I don't really know who to ask. Has my protein been too low? Normally I have plenty of protein, but maybe not the last few weeks. I recently saw the Oncologist and he said I showed no signs of the cancer returning. He doesn't think it will. So I am wondering where to turn to figure this out. Thu, 6 Jun 2013 14:53:21 EST Working on the garden Today I got back to working in the garden, breaking up the clumps and adding some top soil. I don't really have enough top soil for it, needing about 4 or 10 more bags, but I don't have the money for them. I had to spend enough for the stuff I got yesterday -- mainly herbs and potting soil. I may not have worked all that long in the garden, but it was a lot of work. I didn't get the plants into the garden plot, but I got the herbs planted. I hope I can figure out how to use them all. Tue, 4 Jun 2013 23:55:20 EST Tuesday, May 28 Today was rather busy. I went downtown to get my medical assistance renewed and get my prescriptions filled. I parked a few blocks from where I needed to be since I needed to go somewhere else downtown where there isn't any parking. That was about 10 blocks away. I got everything done, but it took me all day and my feet are killing me.

On the way home I saw a homeless man with his little dog. So many people think that dogs and cats (and other animals) are just animals and not ... Tue, 28 May 2013 23:25:33 EST Memorial Sunday Today was a nice day. At church this morning they had a video with a lot of meaning that was a speech by President Reagan and a lot on the freedom and those who fight to give it to us. They also had a bulletin board to put names on of those who we remember. After the video we had our regular message.

After church we went to the park and had a picnic. There was, of course, a ton of food. The church supplied the meat and the members the side dishes and desserts. When we were ab... Mon, 27 May 2013 01:06:48 EST What a Tuesday workout I finally got my lawn mower working today. Well, I got it working yesterday, but it stopped almost right away. Today I got it started again and we figured out the problem. So I spent the next three hours mowing the foot-high grass. My land isn't flat and that mower didn't want to go where I wanted it to. So instead of going along the side of the hill, I went up and down the hills. And the mower didn't want to go up the hill. Then I got stuck at the bottom of a hill when the mower ran o... Wed, 22 May 2013 01:20:52 EST Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18 Friday my friend came over and we went to lunch and then she trimmed Orzo's claws. He keeps kneading on my stomach and I have holes in if from that. He was also holding onto my hand and those sharp claws got into it. He just is loving me, but he can't help getting me with his claws. Cassie was very excited to see my friend and was running back and forth through the house. I haven't ever seen her that excited (had her since the end of January).

Friday night we went to a Signatu... Sat, 18 May 2013 19:44:16 EST Sunday, May 12 I went to church this morning. They had one of the special services they have during the year. Debbie Milligan from Healing Wings Ministries was there. She does mainly a singing ministry, but also a message and she goes all over the country ministering to people. Most of the music she does is something that she wrote. We always enjoy when she comes.

Later I came and got Cassie and went to meet Spark Team members at... Mon, 13 May 2013 02:35:20 EST I try and try, but for what? I just cannot see any hope anymore. I survived the cancer, but the radiation has affected me so that I cannot go back to work outside the house. I am lucky if I can go outside the house without major problems. So I cannot pay my bills. I have not been buying anything but necessities and I have nothing left on credit and no money. I have been told to move from the house I grew up in to government subsidized housing, but I had a friend there (in this town) who was beaten almost to death w... Wed, 8 May 2013 20:26:11 EST Some exercising can be a problem Today one of my teams started May challenge. For this I chose to do the squats and also am trying to do reverse crunches (challenge also has a choice for crunches or squats). Now those reverse crunches can be a problem. You see, I have a dog, Cassie. Cassie loves people. Those reverse crunches are just too tempting for her since I am on the floor. So she just couldn't resist to get her nose in my face and ears. I did get some reverse crunches done, but I wasn't exactly in the right pos... Wed, 1 May 2013 23:06:22 EST Going downtown can sure be an adventure I had to go downtown today and sure had a time getting there and back. I took the amount of money I needed for a round trip ticket. But I couldn't get the ticket machine to work so tried another one. The second one turned out to be for parking, not the bus/light rail ticket. I had enough to get a one way ticket and went and got on the first train that came along. Wrong train. At least I could get the free shuttle from either one, so I got to see some scenery I haven't seen in years and ... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 19:44:21 EST April 21 Walk in the Park It was a really nice, sunny, warm day today after a week of cold. Cassie and I stopped at the park on the way home from church today. We walked the mile around the park. On one side I noticed that there is a pull-up place. Now, I've never been able to do pull-ups, even when I weighed 110, so I knew I couldn't now, but it was something different to do. I thought maybe just pulling on there might be some strength training for my arms. So I did a few pulls on it. Then we continued around ... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 19:49:39 EST April 7, nice day Today my friend took me out to celebrate my BD a little early. We went to lunch at Applebees after church and I was mostly good there. I got chicken and portabella mushrooms (one of the under 550 dishes) and ate a little less than half. Hopefully that left room for the small Frosty she got me at Wendys a little later. Then we went out to Bennett to see Fancy. It has been so long since I have been able to go see her since I don't have money for gas since my truck had problems. Fancy, of ... Sun, 7 Apr 2013 21:28:56 EST The Passion Play 2013 Tonight my friend and I went to The Passion Play. This was my 3rd year to see it. They put on a really good play each year. It is all volunteers from several churches in the area. Every time I cry when they whip Jesus and crucify him. Tonight, though, I couldn't stop crying. I cried even when Jesus showed up after rising from the dead and leaving the tomb. I cried all during the song "He's Alive." I cried when Jesus was ascending to heaven. And I cried when they had the call to the a... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 01:32:08 EST Trying to get walking more I'm having extreme problems with finances now and have been trying to figure how to get to the doctor's office without having to use my gas. It ends up a question of having to walk about a mile from the bus stop. Well, I am not used to walking a mile. So I am trying to get to walking more by next week.

Today I walked twice around the lake at Washington Park. That turned out to be a half mile each round, so I got the mile on that walk. Added to the rest of the walking I did t... Wed, 13 Mar 2013 23:46:46 EST
