EVELYN208's SparkPeople Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal.asp?id=EVELYN208 EVELYN208's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community SparkPeople.com http://assets2.sparkpeople.com/assets/nav/logo_spark.gif http://www.sparkpeople.com/ Another obstacle... didn't feel quite so guilty this time.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5203490 So yesterday I had a bit of an eating obstacle.. and this time I had a gym obstacle! Though not the kind that you can blame on lack of focus and motivation.. maybe.

Being the weekend of course I have plenty of time to set aside an hour to go to the gym. I usually do this at night, no problem.

First thing is I set on my normal route (I walk) and I see this very shady person lurking in the shadows. Yikes! Okay, time to take the car this time.

Just in case I went... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 11:17:34 EST Bit of an obstacle... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5202060 So today I did the biggest no-no. Fast food! Ach. When at work got a call out to a rural area. I stopped at a seaside town which didn't have much of any shops. The only thing with anything remotely healthy was a general store but I didn't have any cutlery if I bought a soup or anything like that. It didn't have any fresh produce I couldn't really make a sandwich. I'm sure if I looked real hard I could've found something remotely healthy but there were no obvious choices so I just went with f... Fri, 11 Jan 2013 11:42:23 EST New start - 9 days later! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5200000 Okay, so I thought time for a new start. Nicely timed with the New Year, isn't it? I was reading statistics on resolutions and apparently only 8% of people actually succeed in their New Year resolutions. How demoralising :)

Anyway, if you have read my blog before you may notice a pattern. A "NEW START" post, maybe one or two posts and then nothing for months and months. I suck at this! So knowing this, I didn't post here for a while to see if I could sustain it. I didn't want to pu... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 07:32:14 EST Back on Track - DAY 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5073971 Okay, so day 2 is here. Not as difficult as I thought it would be. I've been mostly good. No biscuits or sweet things today!

So last night I went to the local gym for the first time. It's not a real flashy place, but it'll do. The bike isn't too good, the pedals would lose traction and jar a lot so I didn;t spend much time on that, which is weird because it's my favourite. Anyway, stayed until I burned 400 calories and it wasn't all that hard. I was concerned that I would really st... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 07:05:11 EST Back on Track - DAY 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5072388 So yesterday I had one of those moments. You know the moment when it changes from "I should lose weight" to "I am going to do this. Now".

If you read my blog yesterday here was the plan:

1. Create diet plan - DONE
2. Buy the ingredients - DONE
3. Cook myself a few meals to freeze - NOT DONE
4. Join the gym - DONE
5. Bin the crap in my pantry. - DONE
6. BLOG! I'm going to blog every day for at least the first week while the cravings will be rampan... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 05:28:46 EST Massive relapse for over 6 months http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071109 So I gained all the weight I ever lost and then some. In fact I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I gained 35 lbs in 6 months.

*sigh*

So I'm basically posting this to give myself a bit of accountability. For 4 weeks straight I've been telling myself "this week I'm going to change". And I didn't. So time to act.

PLAN OF ATTACK
1. Use the tools on SP and make myself a diet plan with recipes/ingredients
2. Buy the ingredients on said list fro... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 04:24:43 EST iPhone App - Training for 5k? Try this! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4850094 So today I thought I would review the new app I downloaded by Zen Labs, loving it so far. It's called C25K. And yes it says "25" but it's actually the program for the 5k at the moment.

Here's a picture of the screen:

So you press start and it will tell you to warm up and then the fun begins! Whenever you need to jog (for example, for 60 seconds). It... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 15:04:49 EST Calorie range and self-defeating thoughts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4848043 I'm struggling to keep to my calorie range. It has dropped 200 calories and that is killing me. When I reach my mini goals the app re-calculates what my range should be based on my new weight rather than my old weight, which is now 1400 calories. I'm still a big girl (obese, not "overweight"!) so I don't understand. Like 1200 calories is supposed to be the absolute minimum for anyone!

Maybe it's too little but I'm scared to raise it in case I'm wrong and put on weight. If I put on ... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 12:02:30 EST Letter to Myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4846345 Time to write a letter to myself and I again don't know what to say. 8 weeks is such a long time and I don't know what's happening tomorrow let alone in 8 weeks.

The last time I did the BLC it was my first time and each week I had pretty high expectations. I had just started in my "health kick" and it was a shock to the system, let me tell you. I lost some great numbers early and didn't sustain it, but that's okay. This time I've got a suspicion it will be a lot more slow going, an... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 10:23:05 EST News on the job front http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4843581 So got some more good news on the job hunt front. I got a call from DCP (Department of Child Protection) today having an interim informal discussion about the role, what positions are available in what locations and where I would prefer to go. She said she would call me Monday/Tuesday to talk about the different bits and pieces before the letter offer and to start filling out the Working With Children Check paperwork (like a police clearance but a bit more thorough). It would take a huge bolt... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 06:35:40 EST Mothers are lame http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4842237 I wrote this whole spiel about my mother and how she's frustrating me but I think it makes me sound like a brat, lol. Basically I have limited funds to live on while I'm studying (hopefully I will get that full-time job soon) but in the meantime the "arrangement" for shopping is not working because she doesn't buy enough food. If I try to fix it (i.e. buy my own healthy stuff) she wont pay for it but she'll still eat it/use it and I really can't afford to be buying food that someone else is g... Thu, 19 Apr 2012 09:34:37 EST New clothes today = Pre-BLC Week "Before" Shot! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4839171 So I've had a bit of motivation in the last 3 weeks, as I was just 6.6 lbs away from my goal at the end of the last BLC. So been working hard and now have lost 4.4 lbs in 3 weeks. Very happy about that. Just over 2 pounds until I reach my first major milestone. It may have to wait a while as I am on gym leave for a muscle strain and TOM.

But anyway, a little while ago I splurged with some online clothes shopping (first time to ever order clothes online) and it arrived today. Seeing... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 11:10:35 EST Easter Sunday - My undoing? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4825259 So this morning is Easter Sunday... the day of chocolate giving.. sigh. Want to know the worst part? I could eat 10 and it wouldn't eclipse my calories today.

So I live alone with my mum and we decided just to get 1 Easter (chocolate) gift each. So I bought her those pack of standard size eggs in a mini carton, only 4 :) She bought me a similar carton.. but with.. TWENTY! Oh my gosh. A few days ago I made a plan of how I'm going to deal with Easter. I'm not going to throw them out ... Sun, 8 Apr 2012 03:01:32 EST Goodbye BLC 13! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4822794 So the BLC 13 has ended and I am so sad to see it go! I had so many weeks where the scale didn't move and I didn't meet my goal either. Nothing to get down about, though!

So first thing I did was read my "Letter to my future self (9 Jan)". I asked myself a few questions so here are the answers.

Did you make some new friends? Yes. But the relationships faded towards the end as everyone stopped posting :(
Was it worth the hard work? Yes and no. I really don;t think th... Fri, 6 Apr 2012 05:00:12 EST Progress Report - Week 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4745537 Oh my God - it's halfway through the challenge!! Well, this is bad, because I haven't reached half of my goal and we all know the longer we go the more the weight loss slows down. It's really disheartening the roadblocks I've had lately. Maybe I should just be grateful I have maintained rather than put on (well, put on then lost what I put on, so back to 2 weeks ago).

I'm finding it really hard not to judge my success by the scale number. And I know its not reasonable and logical, ... Sun, 19 Feb 2012 01:37:17 EST Progress Report - Week 5 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4733283 Just thought I'd check in, have been struggling this week. I had an awesome week last week, and the day after weigh in I gained 2 lb and it has been fluctuating 2-3 lb above all week aven though I was eating right and going to the gym most days.

And yesterday I graduated! It was great, an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life. =D
Though the downside is I didn't track my food for the day and what I thought was about 1800 calories - not too bad seeing as my range is... Sat, 11 Feb 2012 04:30:53 EST Progress Report - Week 3 & 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4724113 So last week I did my "Accountability" blog so I didn't do a progress report. So I guess I'll combine it all here. Not there was much to say!

So firstly the pressures of life... i.e. fast food "restaurants" as they like to call them! Nothing restaurant about them. Well I have learned to not gorge TOO much on McDonalds. Unfortunately I can't seem to get away from them altogether, because of family, but that's okay. I can settle with a McChicken burger, which without the shake and ch... Sun, 5 Feb 2012 21:13:50 EST Personal Accountability! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4712086 Week 4! How the time has flown!

So this week's BLC challenge is one of personal accountability. My task is to write down my influences and how to fix them. We don't have to share it publicly, but I always find it helpful to have public accountability and I secretly love getting comments from my fellow team-mates *hint, hint*. I also find reading other people's stories as motivation so I'm hoping I will motivate one of you!

1. Take Out
Take-out, how I love thee. Well... Mon, 30 Jan 2012 11:31:35 EST Progress Report - Week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4696032 So haven't checked in for a while so thought I'd share what's been happening. Monday I did a long cardio session, I was pumped and kept my heart rate up and burned about 850 calories. It put me in the best mood. But... since then it has taken me 5 days to recover! That is really not good.

I've never faced a situation where I could push myself so hard mentally through the physical discomfort to find out that I over-worked. It's my leg/calf muscles that were feeling the pain and aft... Sat, 21 Jan 2012 23:14:19 EST Progress Report - Week 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4680072 So it's been nearly a week since I started the BLC challenge. I've decided I want to keep a regular blog to keep me in line. Yesterday wasn't such a good day (nutrition wise) and I'm pretty sure if I hadn't committed to the challenge I probably would have given up. With the weigh-in looming I decided to see if I could do a bit of exercise to take back some ground and I was successful! I feel great. After every workout I always feel good so I don't know why I don't do it more often.

... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 11:56:56 EST Letter to Myself at the End of The BLC Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4669962 So here I am, on Day 1 of a 12 week challenge. One of the mini challenges this week is to post a picture of ourselves and write a letter to ourselves to read at the end of the journey. So here goes.

Dear Evelyn,

I know it can't have been easy, but I am confident you've got through it unscathed. Undoubtedly there were bumps along the way, but it wouldn't be us if there weren't, would it?

I look upon myself in the past and think how different I am from those "v... Mon, 9 Jan 2012 21:48:20 EST Off the wagon.. and I lost weight? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4176713 Wow, has it really been 2 months since my last entry?

So I fell off the wagon. Big time. I stopped posting, I stopped tracking what I was eating, and I stopped exercising. I ate some junk food and stopped cooking for myself. Miraculously, I think some higher power, or maybe my body, was looking out for me and even though I fell off the wagon in every aspect of weight loss, I didn't put on weight. I even lost some!

Was it a huge amount of weight? No. 1.8 kgs (4lbs) in 2 ... Tue, 19 Apr 2011 12:02:11 EST Was able to jog 1 km today! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4026715 Well, I ventured outside for a workout for the first time, and thought I would have a try at jogging. It was quite difficult, but I managed to jog a kilometer (0.6 mile) for 15 minutes before slowing down to a walk, which I then did another kilometer.

I was very proud of myself! Previously I've only been able to jog for maybe 50-100 meters before having to slow down to a walk, so it's a great achievement. I'm going to train to get up to 5km.

244 Thu, 17 Feb 2011 23:38:08 EST First Mini-Goal Achieved! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4020618 Hello Sparkers!

I just wanted to share with you all that I have achieved my first mini-goal, 11 days after I started here on SparkPeople.

I HAVE LOST 5 KILOGRAMS! (11 lb)

And here is the all new me!!

244 248 109 Tue, 15 Feb 2011 19:24:37 EST My Workout Motivator: EA Sports Active 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4015877 I recently purchased for the Wii, EA Sports Active 2. While it has some "game" components, it's closer to a custom workout DVD that will tell you exactly what you have done. It has motion trackers and heart rate monitor, so it knows what movements you are making. It knows if you aren't squatting as low as you should be, and with the heart rate monitor it even knows if you aren't working to your potential.

The thing that I absolutely love about it, is the intractability. It will cal... Mon, 14 Feb 2011 05:58:35 EST The First Week: 10 Things I've Learned http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4005767 As my first week here comes to a close, I have a few musings to share and reflect on. Here are 10 things I have learned this week.

1. You don't have to leave the house to exercise.
I created a circuit around my house (not including the kitchen) and worked out how fast I go around it (mine is 21 min/mile), do the circuit for a set amount of minutes and once I input it into Spark it will tell me what calories are burnt. An easy way to do some "mindless" exercise.

2. I... Thu, 10 Feb 2011 01:17:26 EST My Last "New Start" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3999964 This isn't the first time I have vowed to a new start - but I want this to be the last time. I have learnt from my mistakes though. I will not be a racehorse at the gates for a 100 meter sprint, and then realise that the race doesn't end. My number one goal this time is to improve my lifestyle only enough to not get "burnt out". Because the burnt out stage can wreak havoc on my life and body. Slow and steady wins the race.

Last time I went on a "diet" I lost 15kg (33lbs). This was ... Tue, 8 Feb 2011 02:12:27 EST
