Sun, 4 Nov 2012 08:35:19 EST Today In Fitness So for my Falling into Fitness challenge this week I am to read 4 fitness articles and blog what I learned from them.

Outdoor Exercisers: Get Closer to Nature

_articles.asp?id=342

Wow! The University of Queensland did a study that exercising close to traffic can increase you risk of cardiovascular disease. My main source of exercise is walking. If I do not walk at my school, I walk in my neighborhood. I hope I am n... Sun, 21 Oct 2012 19:12:15 EST SparkGoals I joined a challenge called Fall into Fitness. One of our challenges this week was to create two goals we wanted to work on through out the challenge and log them here on Spark.

If you don't know how to set up your goals, go to my tracker and select other goals from the list.

When I made it to this page I found a long list of goals. A long list of goals I was so not working towards. Time for some deletion.

Recently I realized I was feeling very overwhelmed ... Sun, 21 Oct 2012 07:23:32 EST Crunches So this morning I weighed myself and found I was at 208. During the summer I got to 200 but never could seem to cross that line into the 190's. I got depressed about this and well have used a busy life to stop exercising, loose motivation and eat whatever I wanted.

After stepping on the scale this morning it finally clicked how I need to get all areas back up and going. So, the first thing I am going to do is give up soda. I have been drinking a lot of this. And even with the know... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 05:33:56 EST 30 Minute Playlists The Rock It challenge this week was to create 2 30 minute playlists. Since I new I needed to update my exercise/driving playlist I went through all 1050 songs I have in my play all. After narrowing them down to 594 I began the task of creating my 2 playlist. Decided to go by artist only choosing one song from them. The song had to also capture me at that moment to exercise. Below are 4 playlists I created. Honestly I would keep going but my body is telling me it is time to go to bed. Hope you... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 21:39:26 EST August Goals Wow July flew by and it is already time to figure out August goals. Notice I am a few days off in that department because I don't want to believe it is August. Only 2 more weeks before I report back to work and I am not really ready to head back. I have had a very busy summer with my girls and like usual never accomplished everything I wanted to do.

July was not a good month for me. Hurt my knee and had to stop running. Even had to stop walking that much. I have now given a full w... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 21:53:07 EST My Red Hot Journey So I am playing catch up from taking a break from life. Really, I was in a funk/depression and didn't do much of nothing and binged several times.

Back to first sentence. As I have caught back up on my spark teams I found that XPhoenix's challenged the Red Hot Heartbreakers to write a blog about why we have started this journey. Started the journey of becoming healthy. The journey that causes us to take on a new lifestyle. The journey that could make us look a lot different outwar... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 19:07:49 EST 3, 2, 1 Cake A month or so ago my mother sends me this forward about the 3, 2, 1 Cake. At first I thought it was some crazy forward my mother was sending along but when I looked at it I found this simple cake recipe for one person.

Between me remembering to add the ingredients (only two things) to my shopping list and vacation I just now got to making one. And yes, it was good. My daughters ate theirs right up and I can't wait to make mine.

Ingredients are: 1 box of Angel Food Cake... Tue, 17 Jul 2012 20:35:18 EST Changing the Mindset So I have lost weight and got to my goal weight area twice. Because of this I have taken a hard look at myself to figure out why I can get there but never maintain it. Things I learned were:

198 Old Mindset:
I have never been a healthy weight for my height. I have been the overweight, "fat kid", since 1st grade. I honestly didn't know how to deal with being smaller and having people who I had grown up with to those I currently knew comments of how good I looked. One... Wed, 11 Jul 2012 21:28:08 EST News from the Doctor Today I had to go in for a check up for one of the meds I am taking. I was recently diagnosed with an adrenal gland issue. Basically my issue is that it causes me to be overweight, have facial hair growth and struggle to loose weight. There were others but these have stood out in my head because they are the three things I have struggled with for years and are annoyed with.

Anywho, first round of treatment was to work on my metabolism. To do this I have been put on Metphormin. We f... Tue, 10 Jul 2012 20:26:07 EST July Goals So June was great. Way better than I thought. Lost over 4lbs, haven't binge ate and haven't had a soda all month. :) Ohh, and kept up with my C25K training.

So Goals for this Month:
1. Cont. C25K training.
2. Cont. to make the best choices on food while on vacation.
3. Cont. Soda Challenge by not drinking soda this month.
4. Exercise - on the days I do not run, complete some form of exercise.
5. Cont. to stay busy to keep my mind off of food. Sun, 1 Jul 2012 08:50:03 EST June's Goals Wow, June already! Only 4 more days with my 7th grade students and then Summer Break! I am looking forward to a break from teaching (well from 7th graders, never really get a break since I have 7 year olds) but I am a bit nervous. Being at home with my kitchen a few steps away has been my downfall.

With that said, my first goal has to be keeping myself busy so I do not mindlessly eat. To help me with the challenge I am continuing my 21 day binge challenge (have completed once), jo... Sat, 2 Jun 2012 13:59:35 EST Whoops So today we had a wedding shower. I forgot that since it was the first Tuesday in May it was also celebrating May birthday's. "Come on up Carrie", yep that was me being called to the front. No biggy. Back to my seat I go. I brought my Ipad with me thinking I would escape the food line for awhile (two counters full of yummy food) and go last. Nope, I wasn't thinking when I sat down and was near the food and near people who wanted all the honorees to go first. Fine, I went and got a little. The... Tue, 1 May 2012 18:59:05 EST May's Goals It is amazing that the past few weeks past so quickly and it is time to create May's Goals. I had 5 goals for the last few weeks of April when I stated I was going to start back up again. In actuality I struggled the first week and have only been on track for the past 5 days. In those few weeks I forgot all those goals except for logging my food and drinking my water.

In the past few weeks I have learned that I need to stop thinking I am going to be perfect at this and to just rel... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 10:28:21 EST Spark Is Trying to Tell Me Something So as I log on and work through my e-mails I keep coming across articles and blogs that just speak to me. It is like Spark knows that I have been slacking and need to get moving on my health plan again.

I really have enjoyed today's article 7 Things that Seperate Weight-Loss Winners and Losers.

ion_articles.asp?id=1732
I personally have been feeling like a looser alot lately. Because I have been feeling like a looser I have b... Wed, 18 Apr 2012 15:02:08 EST Day 23 - 3rd Week of C25K Training Today begins my third week of C25K training. This week begins longer running times. I so wanted to give up but was determined to only walk when my app told me too. I ended up on the long runs jogging around the whole track each time. I have never done that and silently has always been a goal of mine. :) When it announced I only had one minute left I was in walking mode. I decided to run the last bit. I was tired afterward but felt so good about what I accomplished during today's workout. :) ... Mon, 26 Mar 2012 14:28:30 EST Day 21 and 22 - What a Weekend Saturday:
I have been busy today. Got up and fixed breakfast for the family and started laundry. While breakfast was cooking (coffee cake) I did yoga on the wii. Great to get exercise but all I was thinking about was trying to stretch all the aches and pains I was having this morning. It helped. :) Off to the bank then back to the house to do more laundry before heading out to run another errand, lunch at our favorite place (Souper Salad) and then a birthday party for one of our daughter... Sun, 25 Mar 2012 19:08:05 EST Day 20 - Making it a Great Day So tickled with myself this morning. I went by McDonalds due to nothing in the house for breakfast (grocery shopping this afternoon) . I so wanted an Egg McMuffin, hash brown and coke. I knew this was not the best choice and went with the fruit and oatmeal. I was thinking it would be a combo choice and would get a hash brown and drink. Still so wanted the coke but I also wanted the hash brown so I decided I would get orange juice. By the way, I did all this thinking in the few minutes of gett... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 09:33:09 EST Days 15-19: Still on the Journey Not much exciting going on in my world and is why I haven't been writing. I am happy to report that I am finally pain free. It finally died out on Tuesday. :) I have stayed away from my garden this week but tomorrow plan to get out there and work. I am hoping that I don't cause any muscles to clinch up again. Ohh and I have to mow the grass. That is really what started all the nonsense. Hopefully it will start better this time around.

I have been continuing my C25K training and wil... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 09:21:23 EST Day 10-14: Migraines So this week has been bad for me. I have been dealing with Migraines since Tuesday. Even was sent home on Wednesday from work. Since then people have asked if I needed to go home but I stuck it out the rest of the week.

Luckily it comes and goes so i have been able to do my C25K training this week and get my flower bulbs in the garden.

This later one I am sure is not going to help my migraine nonsense but tomorrow I am going to go and get a massage. I can't wait for tha... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 14:31:28 EST Day 8 and 9 - The Training Begins Day 8 - REST!! Yes people, I finally rested. Well the morning and early afternoon. After that it was time to make dinner for the family and they kept me up and going. Great dinner with the fam and hanging out. :)

Day 9 - Back to work. Good day though was had with the students. Of course it helps when they have an internet activity which keeps majority of the students in line. Not all but majority. Got caught up with some stuff on my school to do list.

Food well, that wa... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 19:41:31 EST Day 7 - My Saturday (through the eyes of my husband) 4:17am.....AHHHHHHHHHHHH!....Charlie Horse! (stevens not mine) Only 13 minutes before the alarm was supposed to go off. Time to get up. Got ready, loaded up the sandwiches (had cut up subs and bagged 64 sandwhiches the night before) into the coolers and headed out.

Drove over to McDonalds arriving as the lights turned on. They completed making the 70 biscuits in short time. Headed over to Carrie's school. Carrie stopped to pick up one of the students. The kids were appreciat... Mon, 12 Mar 2012 19:17:25 EST Day 6 - Oh what a day but I Survived! Warning! Long Blog this evening but it ends with a huge win in my journey. :)

Wow, enter school and let the craziness begin!

Because I decided to go for a walk yesterday I had to finish setting up my lab. Luckily I have my daughters with me and set them to work putting stuff up and putting stuff out for today's lab.

On the way to the bus I get my first oh no for tomorrow's BioMoto event. ONe of the BioMoto teachers father in law is in the intensive care after ... Fri, 9 Mar 2012 20:18:57 EST Day 4 and 5 - Still Going Strong Day 4 -
Wow, what a busy day and stressful one. Taught all periods, had a parent meeting with a parent who is wacko, took care of a lot of fieldtrip stuff for this Saturday's trip to Rockingham, made potato salad for church potluck, went to church. Now the last one I would have to say was relaxing and really enjoyed my time at church. It was all before that I found myself stressing and uptight.

Even though the hectiness. I stayed on track and didn't binge. Now when I say on t... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 14:13:07 EST Day 3 - New Day So today is a new day and so far going good. I have eaten a bagel with some peanut butter and banana. For a snack I will have some popcorn that I popped yesterday. Almost done with my hot tea and will start working on my water.

Lunch is going to be a good one for it is tomatoes, spinach and shrimp concoction. I do have some 3 thin mints with me and plan for it to be my afternoon snack.

Today my students are either watching a video or working through an online Genetics s... Tue, 6 Mar 2012 15:15:23 EST Day 2 - At Home with Sarah Morning Report:
Well, yesterday we decided it would be best to stay home with Sarah since she wasn't keeping anything down and didn't want to take her to Grandma's if she was still getting sick. So this morning me and Elizabeth (Sarah's twin sister) headed into school to get my sub plans together and set up the room. So thankful for Elizabeth who set out all my textbooks for my students while I created the sub plans. I also love Mrs. Hagler (substitute). She got there early so I could te... Tue, 6 Mar 2012 06:01:36 EST Day 1 - Journey of a Binge Eater So what a day. I get up and get ready, come downstairs and find my 3 of our 4 family members claiming some form of sickness. Well, okay, no church for us and I proceed to eat breakfast and then catch up on sparkpeople. I am getting so motivated from sparkbuddies that I start thinking how I am going to change into sweats and start working on cleaning up our house and go for a walk.

Well, one of our daughters starts talking about church. She declares she wants to go and then her twi... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 20:05:28 EST Doughnuts So I am so proud of myself! Today I walked into our Literacy Coach's office and was amazed to find doughnuts. All kinds of doughnuts. As I talked with the coach another teacher walked in and ate 3 doughnuts in the short time I was there. I just ate the grapes I found on the table as I talked with our coach.

Later this evening I was driving home and I thought about those doughnuts. I remember walking in and seeing them and saying to myself stay away. Even though I watched the other... Thu, 19 Jan 2012 18:58:02 EST My Day Off So today I got up with my husband even though I could have slept longer with it being my day off. I thought if I got up early surely I would get some stuff done and get to my scrapbooking. I did get some stuff done just not all of it as planned.

The first mishap came when my daughters and I were making grape jelly. The jelly boiled over on the stove. Luckily not to much but enough to make it a no fun mess to clean up. I am glad I reacted quickly because we got the fan on and the sl... Mon, 16 Jan 2012 15:48:35 EST Calculating So last night when I put in all my calories I found my tracker showing I was over by 100 calories for the day. Of course I wasn't to happy about it but I had a break through. I didn't say screw it and throw in the towel. Instead I just shrugged my shoulders, owned it and moved on with my night.

This morning I listened to my body and stayed in bed till 10 am. With all the exercise I have done this week my body needed some rest and I made sure to give it to it. When I finally got up ... Sat, 14 Jan 2012 15:47:12 EST Day 6 to a new me! When I got up this morning, heck when I went to bed last night I was apprehensive how this day was going to go.

This morning we all got up (hubby, daughters and I) to go get our cars inspected and an oil change. Since my hubby likes to be there when they open, well before they open, we were up and out of the house before 7am. Usually my husband takes our girls to get the cars worked on and has breakfast with them at BoJangles. Since I was along for the ride since both cars needed ... Sat, 7 Jan 2012 19:05:51 EST BioMoto What is BioMoto you ask, well it is a program that am participating in at my school. I facilitate students through inquiry based lessons in science and math. The overall objective is to get the kids moving as well as increase their knowledge in science and math. In March they will go and compete in a Pit Crew Challenge (like what you see in NASCAR) and see where they stand health wise at the end of the program.

Now, why am I mentioning BioMoto. Well, I teach and usually have a lot... Tue, 3 Jan 2012 10:21:56 EST Hiding the Scale Yesterday I went to see my dietician. I love Tonda. I was kind of worried how she would respond about my yoyo of healthy food vs. overeating days, as well as days of exercise and then others of none.

I ended up loosing 1.5 lbs for the month and I was given a homework assignment. To make goals and reinforcers for 2012. I have yet to do this and plan to do on my drive to Illinois the next few days. But I have determined I am hiding the scale.

I have a love hate relationsh... Thu, 22 Dec 2011 10:48:07 EST Getting back on track. I reached 205 lbs and when I started to struggle wow, did I go the other way! In three weeks I have gained about 3 lbs. Not happy with my eating some days, not happy with my lack of exercise some days, not a fan of the stress I was putting on myself the past week. With all that said, I know why I gained and want to let the negativity go!

Today I am back on track and should be good with so much calories I have left for tonights dinner.

I do have an appointment with my di... Wed, 21 Dec 2011 14:52:42 EST What a Day! I had to take the day off to take one of my daughters to an endocrinologist. We were seeing presigns of puberty and she is only 7. The Dr. says she has premature adrenarche which should occur around puberty but has decide to start now. No huge worries but she will be monitored by us and our doctor for any other issues.

What a crazy appointment though it was. That dr. found she was in the beginning stages of bronchitis which sent us off to our family dr.'s office. In which she got ... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 16:28:50 EST Amazed Yesterday I was totally in awe as I stepped on the scale when I realized that I lost 2lbs this week. I was later in awe when I found out I was only 1lb from reaching my 2nd goal of 10lbs down.

I am really excited to reaching this goal for I have decided that my reward will be to go get my haircut. I have been letting my hair grow out to donate to Locks of Love and will be getting a short haircut. Excited yet nervous to see the new look. Will post pictures once I meat my goal and r... Sun, 4 Dec 2011 13:56:00 EST Virtual Me I have seen where some different sparkers had virtual ladies of their goal weights. I have to admit I wanted to try this out and thanks today to a fellow sparker as well as google, I found
. This sight allows you to put in your body shape, weight, height and so on to make your own virtual model to try on clothes. It will even let you put your own face on the model but I don't seem to be good at that bit of technology and didn't bother.

Here is my Goal l... Sun, 27 Nov 2011 16:15:29 EST The Past Few Days First and most importantly, I hope everyone had a great day celebrating 429 thanksgiving with family and friends yesterday! :)

Thursday:
Wow what a day! The day was spent baking and preparing side dishes for 429 day, running to Dr. visits 282 , picking up a few last minute items, cleaning and kids choir practice 335 . Ohh and some exercise 320 .

Best apart of the day was heading to the dietitian where I lost 6 lb... Fri, 25 Nov 2011 07:56:05 EST I Love FPU! Today is an 345 day and it is only 9:30 in the morning! :)

Why you ask:
1. I am right on track with my calories.
2. Two day is the last work day of the week for me and I only have two more classes to teach today. 334
3. Depending on the weather, I am going to go pick walnuts for FREE! 4
4. I am almost done with my planning for next week so that means I can 331 after school.

and for the biggest achievement ... Tue, 22 Nov 2011 09:39:33 EST The Scale Today I was disappointed when I stepped on the 192 . I was hoping for a 1lb or 2lb weight loss for the week. I ended up only with a .4 weight loss. I feel I had a good week with food and exercise. I am thinking this cold and well my still on going hormone craziness is keeping the scale from dropping.

I know I should be grateful for any weight loss but I was disappointed it wasn't more. I will admit it about sent me in a tailspin. When i came downstairs i just wanted to ea... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 10:37:04 EST Teacher Appreciation Today our PTSO appreciated us with lunch. I have to say it was the best lunch we have ever been given. In the past we have had to wait until after school to have lunch and that doesn't work for me since we start school at 7am which means my breakfast was consumed before then. This year they had it during lunch and had parents to cover the cafeteria so that we could eat in peace. They decorated the tables with fall decorations and had everything we needed for bake potatoes and a variety of sou... Wed, 16 Nov 2011 16:57:01 EST Monday Ugh! The whole family has colds. My throat is so scratchy which is never good when you are a teacher. Hoping to survive the day without putting lots of cough drops in my mouth tomorrow. Barely survived my last class of the day with a cough drop! So happy that one of our guidance counselors will be teaching my class on Wednesday about careers. A break from talking. 20

Even though my throat is sore, I was happy to go to school today. I stay on track with my calories when I... Mon, 14 Nov 2011 19:12:15 EST Today Thank you all to all our Veteran's and those who serve in the military!

Today we off from school and my children are at Grandma's. emoticon I love a day to myself but it is these days at home where I tend to overeat. emoticon Last night I began to worry about today and new I had to come up with a plan. I knew that documenting my feelings of wanting to overeat in myfitnesspal app for my dietician has helped. So I decided to keep a log of today where I could just post my feelings and... Fri, 11 Nov 2011 20:35:51 EST Veggie Soup When I was engaged to my husband I went and lived a short while with his parents. One thing I thought was odd was that when ever we had vegetables for dinner and had leftovers, they would toss all the veggies in a container in the freezer. Finally, I asked what they were doing and learned that they collected miscellaneous vegetables from meals and put them in the container. Once the container became full they would make a soup for them to eat.

Even though I always thought that was ... Sun, 6 Nov 2011 15:54:22 EST Dr. Visit So I went to the Dr. yesterday. Still think my hormones are off and will wait 5 more days taking more meds to see if they will get regulated. They did find I have two small fibroids but don't believe they are causing the issue right now.

On to good news. I lost 2 lbs. this week. I am 1 lb away form going to by a new piece of clothing. Hoping to do that next week on my day off from work and kids. :)

After that, not much going on. Very tired right now and going to join my... Sat, 5 Nov 2011 20:02:40 EST Tantrum saves my Calories Wednesday nights are spent at church where my husband and I attend our Financial Peace University class and our daughter participate in the kids choir. To help keep down the stress of getting their on time we eat dinner at church. Different folks cook dinner and as of right now we have not had one repeat for our meals. They are good but I am sure high in calories.

Today as I logged my food I watched my calories drop and I begin to worry. By the time dinner came around I was down a... Wed, 2 Nov 2011 19:12:35 EST Headed back to the Dr. Called my doctor yesterday to let her know I was still having a period. This makes my 4th week. For those who have read prior blogs I have mentioned that I think I have taken after my mom and think I may be suffering from Fibroid Tumors.

I found out today that my blood work from two weeks ago were normal. So now I am headed to the hospital to get a sonogram done. On Friday, I will meet with my doctor to find out what they learned.

My hope that the sonogram will show so... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 19:40:29 EST Nutrionist Went and saw a nutritionist today. Very nice lady. I really didn't learn anything I already knew but I like having someone to be accountable to. Also, she tweaked some things I was doing. Some things she tweaked was the number of calories I eat per day (actually went up), how to log my exercise so I keep to my calorie limit, and a snack that will help get in my fiber and protein in during the day. She also gave me a scale to help me know when I should eat and when to stop eating. I plan to us... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 13:19:40 EST Bracelet Back in the summer I came across a blog by 2008Lynn on her Weight Loss Tracker Bracelet

urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=4278987

I really loved the idea of the bracelet and wanted to make one myself. Today, I finally sat down to do it. I was hoping to do something with my daughters beads but couldn't figure out how to remove them as I loose weight.

I ended up using a flexible string for the bracelet strand. I then atta... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 18:50:24 EST Weighing Early This week I was doing good with my food and exercise and just new the scale had to be dropping.

Now, I plan to weigh on the weekends. I have learned that I weigh less the more I get to sleep. During the week I get up around 4:45 am but come weekends I get to sleep till 7am or later.

Even though I know all this, I still stepped on the scale on Friday to find that I still was weighing 213.8 lbs. :( I got off the scale so annoyed. Usually this really messes with my confide... Sun, 30 Oct 2011 08:43:59 EST
