We overcame much in 2013, but it took its toll. Enjoying my husbands return from his new out-of-state job. So proud of him! Now, its time to shift my attention to ME, my health and physical shape. Wed, 1 Jan 2014 18:20:59 EST 7/20 - Back Home, Back to the Starting Line http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5428038 Travel, heat/humidity, a week of illness and a week of travel coming up. Looking at the possibility of Bill moving to Iowa....for a YEAR.....for a "can't refuse" opportunity. An investment in our retirement.

Feeling distracted, lost my focus, needing structure. I know, I really am the one who can control this, but I allow myself to get sucked into the "drama of the moment." An employee resignation, a budget oops, a lack-luster presentation, underperforming employees (who had been ... Sun, 21 Jul 2013 08:52:11 EST Holy Moly, Sweatbox! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5410641 Happy 4th!

The treadmill is still in the garage, and today's 2 mile run was a hot, humid WET one! My long run is Sunday - shooting for 4 miles, but I'll start earlier! Can't wait until I hit that 'zone' where at 6 miles, the endorphins kick in and I feel like I can run forever (or 9 miles, whichever comes first!) In more ways than one, the heat is on, to train for the Brooklyn 5K...with at least a couple of 10K's in the fall. No more 1/2 Marathons for my artificial knees.
<B... Thu, 4 Jul 2013 12:53:23 EST Thursday - PART TWO http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5403890 Morning workouts are THE HARDEST thing to do, but it was THE BEST thing I could have done for myself today. I pledge, to do it again tomorrow, and will get 3 morning treadmill sessions in next week.

Through a jam packed day - I was focused and stuck with my food plan, had more positive energy, and focused on coming home to make a healthy supper and garden.

Now....going to grill some zucchini on the foreman. No, it didn't come from my garden. THAT'S going to take a mira... Thu, 27 Jun 2013 19:45:09 EST Wednesday/Thursday! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5403225 This'll be quick!

Yesterday started with a dreaded employee 'counseling' session, which turned out great. A mom who is overstressed, recently moved, trouble balancing home and work. Starting to show in her attendance and performance. Reached an agreement....she'll telework 2X/week for now, and get this: as a way to balance things emotionally, I encouraged her to a challenge.....cardio 3X a week for the next 2 weeks. I'm allowing her to do this on work time, which is no biggie for ... Thu, 27 Jun 2013 08:11:25 EST Treadmill Tuesday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5401731 I did it. Bought a used treadmill last night (hence, no workout), brought it home in the back of the pickup...an unexpected rainstorm hit....opened it up, let it dry for a day....and rushed home to rebuild and test it. IT WORKS! We didn't give the electronics much hope, and of course I know, it could still fail.

1.75 miles, about 32 minutes. My 5 K's were around 30 minutes 2 years ago, when I was 40 pounds lighter.

Food today - WW bar for breakfast, banana, quinoa/appl... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 20:19:28 EST Two Steps forward, Ten Steps back. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5399286 Our heat/humidity returned today. I was putzing around, putting off running, starting at 9, instead of like, 6 when I should have started. What was to be a long run/walk of 5 miles, was actually a three-point something (those tenths are precious) walk/jog. Left the HRM at home, but by the color of my face when I got back in the car, I probably overdid the cardio. The sharp shooting pains in my knee, double-confirmed "over-doing it." #$%#$^#%$^%. This is going to take PATIENCE and HAPPY THOU... Sun, 23 Jun 2013 16:05:00 EST Strive for Progress!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5398460 Striving for perfection is a no-win!

We give up because we don't see how well we are actually doing. If we measure our progress based on what has NOT happened rather than what HAS, we lose self-confidence and self-esteem. It is impossible to feel good about ourselves. We are frustrated full-time, we get depressed, thinking we have failed.

‘Perfection’ is an illusion, and it is ellusive. It's a mirage, and we are setting ourselves up for a lifetime of never feeling smart... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 17:26:00 EST Saturday Reprogramming! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5398034 Love Saturday....to decompress, turn off iphone, explore a bit more of New England. 'Specially today, since we are celebrating that my husband is no longer unemployed! He gave up a job he loved for my career move....one that gets us closer to our retirement goals but we did know that there'd be a step back, before catapulting forward.

He needs to feel needed. The job hunt can be a demoralizing thing. He'll keep looking for something is his industry which is irrigation....but it's ... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 07:45:06 EST Thursday - ALREADY? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5396569 And, that's how it's been going, during our whirlwind of the last 8-9 months. But before this week.....it was like this:

1. Sunday: Gear up for a healthy week, a "start-over." Make plans to exercise, eat clean, drink water. Pack food. Super-charged, and envisioning how it used to be.....wearing size 8.

2. Monday: Eat/drink as planned. That is, until lunch. Skip lunch, eat about 3 pm, in the break room, grab a mini-candy bar while there. Drink a diet pop, promise self to... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 18:05:55 EST Tying my running shoes as I type..... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5395511 A better day today - first, the scales showed a HUGE loss (customary for the first week, I know!), then my husband rode with me on today's commute - I went one direction (to a family farm waaaaaay down in the corner of the state) while he went to MA to help our Archeologist on a project: using ground penetrating radar to locate a mass grave, site of a 1700's massacre. It was a fun day for him, and he deserved a break in the job hunt. I miss that drive time with him (we always rode together be... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 18:55:37 EST Tragedy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5393927 My sweet, gentle Uncle Bernard lost his life in a basement fire. He was 89, has been dealing with health issues for 25 years, but with a smile, never complaining, and despite it all, found energy to attend reunions of his Army buddies, my sons weddings, trips to care for my grandmother, his mother-in-law.

So - a wave of guilt over not being able to make the very expensive last minute trip back to the Midwest for his service - has been hanging over me today. Food was OK until tonig... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 21:49:00 EST Big Step Forward! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5390678

No more hiding. No more fear of "what must people think" who haven't seen me since my 2011 temporary transformation. I learned then, that community was key for me, but I also have learned that my obsessive approach was not sustainable. YES, I will take progress photos and YES I will journal my food, and YES I will be transparent about my failures, as well as my successes. So, this may not be the last blog post of t...
