So....I am going to gice this my all. Last week was the pre-challenge for me as I didn't have all the stuff that I needed. I lost 4.4 pounds! My hubby took a efore photo and here I go. I officially star... Sun, 13 Jan 2013 11:33:46 EST Life Lesson Re: Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5097910 Wow...I was sailing along the first part of the week. Monday I did an hour of cardio. Tuesday I did an hour of Yoga (I even got up early for the class). Wednesday I was a little bit tired so I did my 25 min, then slam; i got sick. I was fine one minute then had a flash sore throat that was an 8 on a 10 scale. I left work early. Went to the doc the next day for antibiotics, and have been miserable since. There was absolutely no way I could have exercised Thursday or Friday. And I didn't beat... Sat, 13 Oct 2012 20:12:56 EST Lessons from a square inanimate object on the floor. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5091254 We all know the thing I'm talking about....the scale. I imagine if my scale could really talk it would be saying "don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger". It would then go on to tell me what it's information contains and how this doesn't always mean weight gain. My scale would lovingly tell me that it also measures water and muscle. It would tell me to look at the information it holds and question the message rather than either jumping for joy or cursing it. It would also tell me that a squar... I did 1/2 hour of exercise and felt quite energized. Then I spent the rest of tthe day playing WoW. Now....I am off to bed after leaving a few Birthday surprises for
my hubbby.

Sun, 7 Oct 2012 00:01:07 EST The Leader Without a Title http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5086536 My Regional director recommended this boook to me and Imust admit....I love it. Thu, 4 Oct 2012 11:58:49 EST Wednesday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5085995 I got all my exercise in. Yay!!! Thu, 4 Oct 2012 00:27:45 EST Still Busy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5084504 Still busy but managed to get my exercise in today. Tue, 2 Oct 2012 23:00:11 EST Busy Busy Busy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5083171 I have been so busy lately. My exercise slumped last week as I got my business up and running. I will be back on track this week. Tue, 2 Oct 2012 00:09:30 EST Phoenix http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5061018 A lesson learned is never wasted....at least that's what I believe. I have been on Spark for a while now. To be honest, I didn't think it would work. I had been down this road so many times and didn't have one more devastation in me. I had been hurt so many times that I joined Sparkpeople not really believing. My attitude was "if I don't really try, I won't really get hurt". To be honest, that had been my motto in more than one thing in life. I had let down my spark teams with my half hea... Sat, 15 Sep 2012 23:13:04 EST I gained....might as well give up? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5047162 I got up this morning and felt lighter. Even though it isn't my weigh in day, I decided to step on the little bugger. It said I went up. UP!! ARGHHH. I immediately thought this isn't working, I don't feel like exercising today. Its too humid. I had a bunch of poor me excuses at the ready having perfected them over the years. Then I sat myself down and recalled all the healthy choices I have been making, I walked a 20 min mile yesterday without pain! Isn't that a NSV? So before I had a chance ... Thu, 6 Sep 2012 13:40:38 EST Walking it through http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5041469 I need a knee replacement after tearing everything but the PCL in my right knee. For the longest time my right knee has kept me sidelined. I made a couch potato like like a cheetah. When I moved, my knee ached. Over the past couple of years, my "good" knee has been picking up the slack for the other. I find it really interesting now that my right knee doesn't bother me but the left does, My knee ached so badly today that I almost didn't go for a walk. Funny thing though, once I got walking... Sun, 2 Sep 2012 17:50:41 EST Wow! What a beautiful day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040375 I didn't really want to exercise today. My knees were hurting, but I did my 10min on the WII and am so glad that I did. My personal CD player broke last night as I about to listen to a visualization CD. Again, normally I would have been pretty bummed out but I took it in stride. Today I went to get a new personal CD player and of course I had to try it out. So I popped in a Phil Phillips CD and went out for a walk. It was beyond gorgeous out. A slight breeze was blowing. The trees looked so... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 19:16:26 EST C-C-C-Cravings! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040016 I woke up this morning with a craving for a sugary treat. After all these years, I know how sugar is a gateway drug for me. One little bit and I can't get enough. But....I don't want to deprive myself either. It I deprive, I end up resenting what I am doing to be healthy and if history repeats itself, I throw in the towel. So what's a person to do?

Let me tell you how I handled this one. First, I told myself if I really wanted the treat, I could have it. Then I reviewed all of my... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 13:00:42 EST I'm Amazed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5039298 Its been way past my 21 days and I am still doing my Vegan cleanse. So many things have been happening that I thought I'd share them.

1. Exercise, Anyone who knows me knows I considered exercise a 4 letter word! I am now waking up earlier looking forward to exercising on the Wii and also find myself taking walks during work breaks. Breaking up exercise into 10 min chunks has done so much for me.
I did an extra 10 min today because I felt energized.

2. Energy. Some... Fri, 31 Aug 2012 20:54:32 EST One small machine.....one large leap for my eating plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5037475 This is an OMG Pistachio part two. My first attempt at making vegan pistachio ice cream was using soy milk. Today, I used plain soy yogurt . I am in heaven. And the only things in this recipe are the yogurt, some pistachio nuts, splenda, and pistachio extract. This is the ice cream I remember as a kid. AND it fits into my eating plan. Eating healthy does taste good!!! Thu, 30 Aug 2012 12:56:31 EST Setting Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5033354 My challenge for this week from Spark Live is to set realistic, measureble goals. So here they are.

1. Exercise for 20 min 5 days a week.
2. Track my food daily
3. Lose 0.2 lbs per week

I kept them simple and realistic. I am setting myself up for SUCCESS! Mon, 27 Aug 2012 14:47:26 EST OMG Pistachio!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5030746 I'm in love or at least really really strong like. I got an ice cream maker last week. Ever since being vegan, I have missed Pistachio ice cream. I have looked high and low and there is no gluten-free vegan ice cream to be found. Zip. Nada. Zilch. So....today I put3 cups of vanilla soy milk, some stevia, and 1/2 cup of pistachios into my new ice cream maker and 25 min later, I
am in heaven! Pure awesome and incorporated into my food plan. Eating healthy can be delicious.

... Sat, 25 Aug 2012 17:06:51 EST Overcoming All or Nothing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5029618 I admit it. I was an all or nothing person. Either I was half killing myself on some exercise gadget or I was a coach potato. That probably kept me away from SP for a while. I got discouraged. I heard "get 30-60 min of exercise 5 times a week" and I was off and going. Never mind that I hadn't exercised in a long time. I was in do or die mode. It's a wonder I didn't achieve both the way I was going at it. The way I saw it corpses lose weight....right?

Coming back toSP and my Spark... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 17:13:00 EST Day 21 Reflections http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5027868 Wow....I completed the entire process and I learned so much about myself and my body. I learned that I feel so much better increasing fresh fruit over sugary snacks. I learned that I really love working my body. I learned that it wasn't caffeine I wanted but the taste of coffee....decaf works just fine. After having done his cleanse I feel lighter in body and spirit. I feel energetic. I feel beautiful and in touch with myself. It is such an amazing feeling that I can't quite describe. I pl... Thu, 23 Aug 2012 12:18:30 EST Day 20 The Leap http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5026257 Having almost finished this 21 day cleanse, are there places where I am willing to make the leap to incorporating some or all of these steps on an ongoing basis? My answer is a resounding YES. I have loved every second of this cleanse. I thought I'd miss caffeine but I just wanted the coffee taste. Decaf works just as well. I feel so much better sweetening with fresh fruit or stevia....even Agave nectar. I am already a gluten free vegan. And incorporating exercise in 10 min blocks has been wo... Wed, 22 Aug 2012 11:28:04 EST Day 19 Awareness http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5024781 How many times have I eaten without realizing it. All of a sudden, a whole plate of something is gone and if not for a slightly full feeling in my stomach, I would have sworn the food fairies were at it again. I actually started this step a while ago. Not only being aware of what I was eating, but being aware of where my food comes from. And when I exercise, being aware of how I feel. Its an amazing thing coming out of the fog and noticing things around you.

I noticed today tha... Tue, 21 Aug 2012 11:16:18 EST Day 18. Bring Light to yourself and others http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5023316 Wow....I am almost done with this cleanse. Part of this whole process is developing a spiritual awareness of ourselves, our food choices, and of others around us. I really like this idea. Embarking on a Vegan lifestyle was a spiritual decision years ago for me. Not only did I want this for me, but I wanted to be more compassionate in the world.

Now that I am back to SP, I realise that I have changed in my time away. I'm not sure exactly when this happened but I am not the same ... Mon, 20 Aug 2012 12:20:33 EST Day 17 Hunger http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5021963 Whenever I think of hunger, I feel fear, sadness, left out. I don't recall ever having a period of hunger growing up, but the fear of hunger is alive and well in my life. I wonder why? Maybe it is the plethora of diets I was both forced into or did voluntarily later on. So I am making a part of this cleanse about connecting myself to spirit. To reconnect with myself and the life around me. I see my dedication to my Vegan lifestyle as a spiritual commitment. It is not only for me ,but for the... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 15:23:52 EST Day 16, Choices and lessons over a decapitated flat-mouse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5020684 Last night, as I was tooling around SP, I came across a page with a photo of a cup of coffee. I almost got up immediately to get myself one. Seeing that cup of coffee was a trigger. I wouldn't even have noticed it if not for my cat Jett. Just about the time I was getting up, Jett brought me one of his decapitated flat-mouse toys to play fetch. (Flat-mice are his fav toys but he has recently taken to decapitating them leaving behind a ball of fur and a tail). After a few minutes of fetch, I wo... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 13:24:04 EST Day 15. Oh Sugar! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5019627 I have been 15 days without sugar. No sugary colas, no vegan chocolate, no cupcakes or cakes or cookies. How do I feel? Wonderful!!! No more sugar highs followed by crashes. No more intense sugar cravings. No white-knuckling it past the vending machine or the goodies others bring in. I have been learning to cook with Stevia. I have an ice cream maker and plan to make my own ice cream with stevia and silk milk. That way when I want a little something sweet, I won't feel those highs and crashe... Fri, 17 Aug 2012 14:58:48 EST Day 14. The Ripple Effect http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5017996 Today's lesson was right on. These past 2 weeks I have been educating others on why I chose to do this. From Co workers, to having students watch Forks Over Knives, (please watch it, Its amazing), even to my DH. My cousin called me to tell me she had breast cancer and asked what I would do, I gave her some stats and said "I'd go Vegan and here's why",She opted for a double mastectomy. That's OK. I'm not one of those folks who tries to impose my lifestyle onto others, but I will share when ask... Thu, 16 Aug 2012 11:28:19 EST Day 13. Plant Based Nutrition http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5016444 I love this subject. If I weren't currently going for a second masters degree (this time in Nursing), I'd take the plant based nutrition course out of Cornell. Its my passion. I'm a Vegan for life. I feel so much lighter and the dietary illnesses from eating meat, dairy and eggs I don't want. This cleanse has helped me tweak my plant based diet into a healthier one and I have learned a couple of things. I really need to watch my consumption of nuts, and some soy yogurts are sugared. I plan... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 10:45:51 EST Day 12 Cleanse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5014926 My Day 12 cleanse info was on Medical Q& A so I'm going to post some observations instead.
First of all, since I cut sugar, I am not hungry like before. I am able to tell between when I'm hungry vs when my mouth wants something.

Caffeine, I love the taste of coffee. Especially my flavored coffees. I find I can swap to decaf with no real issue. And I seem to sleep better, although sleep comes easily for me.

Fruit, If I am wanting something sweet, fruit does the tri... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 10:43:16 EST Day 11 of the Cleanse. Have fun! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5013389 How often do we forget fun in our efforts to feel better? I used to think exercise and weight loss had to be grueling A no-fun diet. Slaving on some apparatus. Sounds about as much fun as a medieval torture devise. So I am having fun on my Wii fit, I am not worrying about how it's not the same as a gym machine. Its something I will do and I am liking it. That's what matters. I am building up an enjoyable habit vs torturing myself with something I hate. Cheers! 104 Mon, 13 Aug 2012 11:05:51 EST Day 10....Gluten http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5012101 Ahhh... .easy day. I have not eaten gluten in years. Boy, did life change when I found out I had Celiac disease. First...the withdrawal symptoms from giving up gluten were awful. I never want to go through anything like that again. I felt like I was starving and one cracker, cookie, anything with gluten would stop the hunger. Right after eating I'd feel like I was starving. I truly understand an addict saying "Just a little bit to stop me from being sick". I didn't give in.

After... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 12:53:47 EST Day 9. Facing the Shadow http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5010951 Day 9 entails facing the shadow. Inevitably cravings come up and being able to set with them and listen to yourself can be a Godsend. I'll admit, its been a long long time since I have craved anything with meat, but I remember being really hungry and driving past a steakhouse and having to fight the car who wanted to turn around on its own. Since I am so dedicated to my vegan lifestyle, I knew that I was just hungry and needed to go home and eat. But what about Chocolate? The only things th... Sat, 11 Aug 2012 13:25:29 EST Day 9 of cleanse. Eating out etc http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5009983 Today I kearn about eating out, which will be fairly easy for me. I just do vegan food. I eat out rarely which is good. I have also realised that the less sugar I eat, the less hungry I am. I am learning so much from this 21 day wellness cleanse. I feel more balanced, centered. Today I hired a provate yoga instructor so I can get back into my yoga. I am psyched that she'll come to my house so when I am in repose, I can fall asleep and truly relax.

I also am loving the Spark Coach ... Fri, 10 Aug 2012 16:19:46 EST Day 8. Rest & Changes in attitude http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5008176 I will be doing a lot of this today. I tweaked my back and it really hurts. Rest is the cure. I did my final weigh in for week 1 of the cleanse before starting in today. Total loss for week 1 is 1.5 pounds!! I am very happy with this. I joined Spark Coach and really like it. It is daily motivation.

The 10 min of exercise on the Wii yesterday made me realise this is a good goal. I tweaked it a bit to be 10 min a day. It doesn't seem like much but I know this is a goal that I can k... Thu, 9 Aug 2012 11:53:39 EST Day 7 will be a breeze http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5006496 The Day 7 lesson of the cleanse is no alcohol. Easy for me since I rarely drink. I am going out after work tonight but already planned to have a glass of juice or something similar. I like the way things are going and I realise I have changed.

I stepped on the scale today and I am down 0,7 pounds. My former self would have been disappointed with what I believed to be a small loss. But I realised today that I am ecstatic with this loss. It all adds up over weeks. I am so excited to... Wed, 8 Aug 2012 11:16:43 EST Day 6. Exercise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5004818 Still going strong. A co-worker last night told me I looked like I was losing weight. Two more days and I see how much for week 1. Funny how people are watching what I eat. I have one student doing a slim fast thing and she is envious over what I eat. I brought a large salad to work last night with veggies, peas, mushrooms, cucumbers, tomato, and a portabello mushroom burger...a little of everything.

Today I added exercise to the mix. I am adding it slowly. I managed 20 min toda... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 10:24:15 EST Day 5, Food TV, and going strong http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5003261 I am at day 5 now and going strong. Loving the fresh fruits and veggies and learning more as I go. Last night my wonderful hubby was watching a show on making ice cream. That started a powerful crave. I don't have any coconut milk ice cream in the house thankfully since I am cutting out sugar. I made a cup of decaf coffee and after the show was over, had a cup of vanilla soy yogurt with walnuts sprinkled on top. Craving was gone. Yay. Lesson learned.

Today I add some exercise to t... Mon, 6 Aug 2012 10:44:53 EST Day 4 Cleanse and a weight loss surprise http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5001914 I just started Day 4 of my cleanse. I wasn't going to do this. I was going to wait one full week but I weighed myself this morning. After only 3 full days of the cleanse, I lost 0.2 pounds! I know it doesn't seem like much...but each 0.2 pounds adds up. I am thrilled.

This morning I had a cup of decaf and made a wonderful scrambled tofu breakfast for my hubby and I, It had cubed tofu, green pepper, red pepper, onion and, mushrooms in it. Sun, 5 Aug 2012 12:26:22 EST Day 3 of the 21 Day Cleanse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5000627 Yesterday had some issues. I found some triggers that raised their heads. One...my wonderful hubby eating chips. Another, although I rarely drink alcohol, driving past a bar on our way home, I had an instant crave for a cold, sugary, alcoholic beverage, The cravings didn't last long once I acknowledged them. Three days ago however, I would have gotten myself some chips and maybe have talked Hal into stopping for a drink. So today I carry on. I had some soy yogurt for breakfast. I usually hav... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 11:41:46 EST Day 2 Cleanse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4999451 I made it through day 1 nicely. I had a bit of a headache from no caffeine but it passed with the help of some tylenol, I decided to cut out gluten free pasta from a lot of my cleanse as I feel I've been eating too much of it. Last night, I learned how much food it takes for me to be satisfied. I have been eating too much. I had a 1/2 baked potato (it was a huge potato so 1/2 was about the size of a small one) with some walnuts, hummus, and fresh green peas for dinner and I felt much better t... Some of you may think cleanse and imagine 21 days hitched to the porcelain throne. Its not that kind of cleanse. No laxatives, no drinking just juice, no eating just one food. This is a 21 day vamp up my vegan diet cleanse. Some who do the cleanse are not vegan so some parts will be a since for me. The chapters where you cut out gluten and dairy products I can skim. Already did that. My cleanse will cut out vegan junk food, sugar, and caffe...
