Ugh! So, I set up a strength workout using two of the workouts from the "Workouts for Skiers and Snowboarders" article:

www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_articles.asp?id=1219

And I've just completed it, stretching and all.

Earlier this year I was on the fitness track using the SP Fitness Tracker. Thought I didn't need the tracker... stopped using it and fell off the wagon! Well, at least I'm back to what I ... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 18:22:42 EST Half-Century Bike Ride - Got the "All Clear" from the surgeon!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4211921 I'm taking a leap of faith today. I've been riding my road bike for 6.25 miles, 1/2 hour, several times lately. Today I have a Dr.'s appointment up in Ketchum, 12 miles north of my home in Hailey. I drove up with my husband and put my road bike in the back of the car. I will be riding my bike home after my appointment. It will be a gentle downhill grade, on our fabulous "rails to trails" bike path with the wind pushing me from behind. So, besides being longer, it will not be a grueling ... Thu, 5 May 2011 10:27:56 EST Spring into Shape Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4205991 I've not been able to exercise very much these past two weeks. I think I've exercised both Mondays and that's it. My stomach has not been well.

Today is another Monday and I'm feeling much better. It took a bit of prodding from my better self on my lazy self to get myself out the door and onto my road bike, but I did it!! I finally was able get out the door when I convinced myself that I could ride for at least 10 minutes. I got on that bike and rode for 1/2 hour! Hurray! An... Mon, 2 May 2011 22:07:15 EST Another Milestone Reached!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4194606 Tomorrow will be the 3rd Monthiversary of my ACL reconstruction surgery in my right knee. I've made lots of progress this month. I am completely off of narcotics and have had only two Ultram pain pills in the last week. Who would have thought that an hour spinning class would have caused pain the next day?

I have almost full range of motion in my knee!! It does get to 1 degree of hyper-extension when I'm laying down with something propping up both feet. And I can almost touch my... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 12:52:59 EST Side Benefit to Taking Pain-killers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4153495 Since I'm taking pain-killers for post surgery knee pain, they also work on my cramps for that time of the month..... I'll take all the silver linings I can get.
211 Sat, 9 Apr 2011 11:07:22 EST Perseverance http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4152920 Energy levels, pains in my knee and leg, and therefore my emotions have been all over the place lately. The frustration of pain and a plateau in my knee bending progress had me sobbing in my bedroom last Friday. Okay, had the cry, blubbered my soul out to the Lord; take some deep breaths, wash the face, and keep on keeping on.

Two days ago on Wednesday, I had another follow up appointment with the surgeon. After arriving at the office, as I was sitting down on the toilet (sorry ... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 00:10:32 EST My Very First Nordic Walk! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4141930 In my team The Knees, the team leader started a discussion thread, "Nordic Walking, is it for you?" a week or two ago. Intrigued, I read the post and then proceeded to read more about it here on Spark People.

Last summer I saw people in my area walking and hiking with what appeared to be ski poles. I thought, "What's with the poles? Who needs poles to walk and hike??" It looked downright weird to me. Well, I've drunk the Koolaid and become a convert; when I read that walking w... Mon, 4 Apr 2011 16:02:42 EST I guess I need to change my fitness goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4139443 I just went for a 6 1/2 mile ride and averaged just over 12 ml/hr - thank you "Map Your Route" feature! When I entered this into my fitness tracker, the calories burned exceeded the entire week's goal! I had put a goal of 15 min/day of Cardio exercise due to needing to go slow with my knee rehab. Now that I can ride my bike, and the bike path is clear of snow, I can spend more time getting my ticker going. So, I shall go back to My Fitness and change my plan to 30 minutes of Cardio 5 x/we... Sun, 3 Apr 2011 19:10:28 EST Another Day, Another Bike Ride http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4137546 I rode my bike 25 minutes yesterday, and 45 minutes today. Yesterday my knee wasn't too sure about riding for the first few strokes, but then it warmed up and only felt a bit tight. Today, my knee had almost no problems getting going! It felt really good to be out on my bike going for a ride and then getting some errands done.

I've ordered some poles for Nordic Walking. I'm looking forward switching back and forth between riding and walking. My shoulders are getting a bit stif... Sat, 2 Apr 2011 21:23:46 EST I rode my bike, I rode my bike, I rode my bike!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4129250 Yesterday I got on my bicycle for the first time since surgery. My DH had ridden bikes with the kids to school in the morning, so I figured it was time to see if I could ride my bike. I rode to and from school to get the kids! Hurray!! Today I rode my bike to and from physical therapy! Woo hoo!

I walked in with my helmet in hand and showed it to the receptionist/administrative assistant, Linda.

"Look what I did!" I said while waving my helmet in the air.

"... Wed, 30 Mar 2011 12:59:08 EST First Walk Into Town Since Surgery!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4113971 It's been 7 1/2 weeks since knee surgery. Today I had my longest post-surgery walk yet.

Just less than two weeks after surgery I had a desire to get on my feet and out the door. My husband, two kids, the dog and I went for an after dinner family walk. I made it two very short blocks and decided to retrace my steps home. Another week after that, I was still walking two blocks one direction, but one of the blocks was different and longer.

Then came the day I made it al... Wed, 23 Mar 2011 22:36:13 EST There's nothing quite like self-induced torture http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4108124 So last week my Physical Therapist showed me a new way to stretch out my right knee, on which I had ACL reconstruction surgery 7 1/2 weeks ago. In this stretching exercise, I secure a long strap around my ankle, lay on my stomach, hold the strap in my right hand, and puuuull. Not only does it stretch my knee, it also stretches my quad muscle. The pain made me realize that I've not been able to stretch my quad muscle since my skiing accident.

Self-induced pain is NO fun. However... Mon, 21 Mar 2011 18:07:50 EST 8 inches of Spring today!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4105825 Ah, March 20th. The first day of Spring....

Here in the Wood River Valley of Idaho it is still Winter. On the Web Landscaping website, their snow gauge shows eight inches of fresh snow. My husband and son were skiing in fresh powder today while the girls stayed home with injuries and sickness.

Yesterday, Jessica, our eight year old daughter, hit her tail bone on hard snow and could not ski today. I am still recovering from knee surgery. AND I have a cold which makes... Sun, 20 Mar 2011 21:19:31 EST Cardio workout while mobility challenged http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4049741 So we bought a Total Gym 1800. Luckily, I was home when it arrived and the delivery person was another member of our church. Ah, the blessings of a small town! I asked him to wheel it all the way into the bedroom where I wanted to set it up. I would have never gotten it there on my own!

It was very easy to set up. I carefully read the owner's manual before I took it out of the box. By following the directions, set up was a snap without any pinched appendages as some people ha... Sat, 26 Feb 2011 16:05:24 EST A Year of Health Issues - Now Getting Back on Track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4034089 The winter started out as a GREAT ski season for me. My goals: learn to ski moguls, ski 50+ days to justify the full season pass, keep up with the kids! All was going well until.... a collision with another skier four weeks ago. Diagnosis: completely torn ACL in my right knee. The collision happened on a Saturday, I had surgery the following Friday. Three weeks later, I am now able to bend my knee a whopping 90 degrees...

By the time I am done with knee rehabilitation - 4 to 6... Paste these instructions in the body of your blog.

1. What time did you get up this morning? Our 4 1/2 year old had me awake at 2:30am. He was crying and yelling, "I want to be out of bed!!!!!!!!" We all finally got back to sleep and I woke up again at 6:25am and boldly continued on with my workout first thing.

2. Wed, 10 Feb 2010 00:33:56 EST 123 - ABC http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2859069 So I stole Ramona's blog and re-writing it to make an ABC blog of my own. Let's see what word I want to choose for each letter and then what shall I say about that word in relation to me? Hmm, let the fun begin.

A is for Age: of Aquarius? -NOT! I was rather young when that song was popular and played a lot on the radio. I remember it often snagging my attention, but having no idea what it was about. It often made me think of large mammals swimming in the ocean.

B is... Mon, 8 Feb 2010 23:26:00 EST Yearly Checkup http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2799029 It's that time of year.... the (dreaded) annual exam. I'm actually looking forward to all the questions I will be asked about my health - in this office a nurse actually asks the questions and inputs your answers into a laptop right then and there.

I'll get to tell them: that my coffee intake is down, that my water intake has dramatically increased, that I truly am eating a balanced diet and can prove it!, that I am exercising on a consistent basis, and that I have shed 10 lbs. si... Tue, 26 Jan 2010 11:02:47 EST Still sick. Coffee as part of "drink lots of fluids"? ;) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2506827 "Bleh," best describes how I woke up this morning. Watery eyes, thick head, stuffed up and *running* nose/sinuses, that itchy tickley feeling behind it all. Shuffled out into the living room to find the kids enthusiastically 'destroying' it while happily engaged in serious make believe games. So glad they are past toddlerhood and diapers!!! Wandered through evidence of eaten graham crackers and strawberries on my way to the tea kettle. It's now 1pm Mountain Time and we are all still in ... Sun, 25 Oct 2009 15:13:21 EST What are you believing about yourself today? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2504416 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

What do you think about yourself *in your heart*?

What does God think about you?

From Psalm 139:

5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.

13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will pra... Sat, 24 Oct 2009 12:28:39 EST Under the weather http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2503492 I'm a sicky today. No cardio, no strength exercises and my kids think I'm no fun. Well, they might actually think that everyday...

Since it's Friday and sicknesses always seems to end up in my chest - thanks to growing up in Los Angeles, CA with constant bronchitis - I went to the doctor. Better safe than sorry, especially with the worry of swine flu and two young children to protect, raise and instruct.

Turns out my throat is being irritated by post-nasal drip. Hmm,... Fri, 23 Oct 2009 23:09:56 EST My children http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2500431 have been begging me to go to the park. We're not going because I have a scritchy throat and they are going to an outdoor Chili Feed Wagon Ride party this evening. I think I and my throat will stay home.

So my daughter, age 7, just announced, "I'm going outside in the backyard!" and her little brother, age 4, chimed in, "Yeah! We're leaving you inside!" "Uh-huh," I replied. On the second "Yeah! We're leaving you inside!" it registered what he was saying.

Little stink... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:17:37 EST Curves Members - love it? hate it? indifferent? Please let me know http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2500394 So, I've just agreed to go to Curves for the first time next week and check it out. It's not far from my home, but I've never been eager to take myself to another location (i.e. The Gym) to workout. And with young children it's even more challenging to make a workout membership worth my money.

Lately, I've purchased a few workout dvds - mostly dance workouts. I'm enjoying having dance parties right here in my living room, and I think it's good for my kids to see me moving and gr... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 17:52:21 EST To Blog, Or Not To Blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2492494 ... that is the question.

I haven't blogged in a while. Not since before I *accidentally* closed my ELLENSM account. grrrr, thought I was closing the test account I had opened for my husband. Ah, well, new clean page.

Went to a women's retreat this weekend at Lutheran Camp Perkins located in the beautiful Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Idaho.
